Gravol (Generic Dimenhydrinate tablets) is indicated for
use in the prevention and relief of nausea, vomiting
and/or vertigo. These symptoms may be associated
with clinical situations such as motion sickness,
radiation sickness, postoperative recovery, drug-
induced nausea and vomiting, Menière’s disease and
other labyrinthine disturbances.

Gravol Tablets are manufactured by
Wallace Pharmaceuticals Private
Limited, India in the strength of 50 mg.

Chemical Structure

The active ingredient contained in Gravol
tablets is Dimenhydrinate.
Each Gravol tablet contains 50 mg of
Dimenhydrinate.

Uses of Gravol 50 mg Tablets:
Gravol (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) is indicated for use in the
prevention and relief of nausea, vomiting and/or vertigo. These
symptoms may be associated with clinical situations such as motion
sickness, radiation sickness, postoperative recovery, drug-induced
nausea and vomiting, Menière’s disease and other labyrinthine
disturbances.
Gravol is also used for amelioration of allergic reactions to blood or
plasma, in anaphylaxis as an adjunct to epinephrine and other
standard measures after the acute symptoms have been controlled,
and for other uncomplicated allergic conditions of the immediate
type.

Uses of Gravol 50 mg Tablets:
Gravol (Dimenhydrinate Tablets) is used in Parkinsonism, in the
elderly who are unable to tolerate more potent agents; mild
cases of Parkinsonism in other age groups, and in other cases of
Parkinsonism in combination with centrally acting
anticholinergic agents.

Recommended Adult Dosage
When using Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate
Tablets) to prevent motion sickness, the first dose should be
taken half to one hour before starting activity.
To prevent or treat motion sickness the dose for adults and
children 12 years and over is:
Take 1 to 2 tables every 4 to 6 hours. Do not take more than 8
tablets in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.

Recommended Childrens’s Dosage
To prevent or treat motion sickness the dose for children 6 to
under 12 years is:
Give half to one tablet every 6 to 8 hours. Do not give more
than 3 tablets in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.

Contraindications

Gravol tablets are contraindicated in patients with a known
hypersensitivity to Dimenhydrinate, Diphenhydramine, 8-
Chlorotheophylline or any component of the tablet.

Administration of Gravol is contraindicated during or within two
weeks following therapy with amonoamine oxidase inhibitor.

Patients with glaucoma (narrow angle)

Patients with chronic lung disease
➔
Patients with prostatic hypertrophy
➔
Patients under 2 years of age

Storage Instructions
have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e.
from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions
permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines away from
children and pets.

Warnings
Dimenhydrinate may impair the ability to perform hazardous activities
requiring mental alertness or physical coordination such as operating
machinery or driving a car.
The concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system
depressants may have an additive effect and should be avoided.
Gravol (Dimenhydrinate tablets) has substance abuse potential due to its
hallucinogenic and euphoric effects.
At higher doses, confusion, hallucinations, temporary amnesia and
paranoia may occur. Chronic abuse of antihistamines can lead to drug
interaction accidents, overdose, and in extreme cases to death.
Use with caution in patients with cardiac arrhythmias or
cardiovascular disease (including hypertension and ischemic heart
disease)

Warnings
Dimenhydrinate may mask the presence of underlying organic
abnormalities or the toxic effects of certain antibiotics and other drugs,
particularly those drugs causing ototoxicity.
Use with caution in patients who are poor CYP2D6 metabolizers
and in patients with thyroid dysfunction.
Use with caution in patients with pyloroduodenal obstruction (including
stenotic peptic ulcer).
Gravol is contraindicated in patients with prostatic hyperplasia. Use
with caution in patients with other genitourinary obstruction.
Rarely, prolonged therapy with antihistaminic drugs can produce
blood dyscrasia. Use with caution in patients with porphyria.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

Warnings
Dimenhydrinate should be used with caution in patients with seizure
disorders.
Gravol is contraindicated in patients with increased intraocular
pressure or narrow angle glaucoma.
Dimenhydrinate may cause euphoria, hallucination, confusion,and
paranoia at higher doses.
Gravol is contraindicated in patients with chronic lung disease such
as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Use with caution in
patients with a history of asthma or lower respiratory tract symptoms.
Do not give to children under 2 years of age unless directed by a
doctor.

Warnings
In rare cases, serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson
syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and erythema multiformhave
been associated with the use of Dimenhydrinate.
The use of Gravol (Dimenhydrinate tablets) by women who are
pregnant or may become pregnant requires that the potential
benefits be weighed against the potential hazards.
Small amounts of Dimenhydrinate are excreted in breast milk. Because
of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants from
Dimenhydrinate, a decision should be made whether to
discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account
the importance of the medication to the mother.

Possible Side Effects
The most common side effect of Dimenhydrinate (Gravol tablets) is
drowsiness. Dizziness may also occur. Symptoms of dry mouth, nose
and throat, blurred vision, difficult or painful urination, headache,
anorexia, nervousness, restlessness or insomnia (especially in
pediatric patients), skin rash, thickening of bronchial secretions,
tachycardia, epigastric distress, lassitude, excitation, and nausea have
been reported.

Overdosage
Drowsiness is the usual clinical side effect. Convulsions, coma,
and respiratory depression may occur with massive overdosage.
No specific antidote is known. If respiratory depression occurs,
mechanically assisted respiration should be initiated and oxygen
should be administered. Convulsions should be treated with
appropriate doses of diazepam. Phenobarbital (5 to 6 mg/kg)
may be given to control convulsions in pediatric patients.

Gravol Tablets During Pregnancy
Dimenhydrinate (Gravol Tablets) has been classified by the US FDA
as Pregnancy Category B.
The use of Dimenhydrinate (Gravol Tablets) by women who are
pregnant or may become pregnant requires that the potential benefits
be weighed against the potential hazards. There are no adequate and
well-controlled studies with Dimenhydrinate in pregnant women.
Reproduction studies in rats and rabbits using Dimenhydrinate doses
up to 20 and 25 times the human dose (mg/kg), respectively, have not
revealed evidence of harm to the fetus or impaired fertility.
