Hegemonic Masculinity In Contemporary Hollywood
ABSTRACT
Hyper masculinity, defined as the exaggeration of physical strength, aggression and sexuality that
essentializes masculinity (Mosher Sirkin, 1984), appears to be a prevalent feature of contemporary
science fiction films in Hollywood in the year 2000s. The films ability to influence the masses lies in
its ability to reach many people at the same time, thus transcending boundaries of time and space.
Since the American film industry is a dominant force in world television (Tudor, 2013), the portrayals
of masculinity in contemporary Hollywood sci fi films have the potential to penetrate the minds of
people around the world, across different time zones.
In this paper, we argue that contemporary Hollywood sci fi films perpetuate hegemonic ... Show more

Although The Matrix Reloaded (2003) is more dated than The Incredible Hulk (2008), it is highly
relevant to this discourse on masculinity as it offers a starkly contrasting image of masculinity that is
not founded upon essentialist notions of physical strength, aggression and sexuality. Furthermore,
since The Matrix Reloaded (2003) achieved third place in the international box office, its popularity
demonstrates society s receptivity to alternative portrayals of

Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns
through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to convey
a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three groups
come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions. Though
Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely visual work
with three dynamic sets of characters.
Gluck continuously presents the schoolchildren as simple, orderly creatures. She portrays them as
heading to school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the
work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line
obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are
instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by
Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue to
be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are
silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the
irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct.
Gluck s final set of

Gender, Employment, And Career Advancement
In the US, there have been considerable efforts to bring gender equity in the domains of education,
employment and career advancement. However, several occupations are still highly gender segregated
(ACLU, 2013). It has been found that the choices of such occupations could be shaped during early
childhood through gendered socialization. Playing with dolls is an important factor in the gender
socialization process. Dolls boost the cultural ideals that are linked to the place of girls in the society.
Barbie dolls tend to send negative images to young girls since they illuminate a fancy sexual figure
that seems unattainable (Grade, Ward Hyde, 2008). There is limited data on the negative effects this
doll has on the gender socialization of girls. This experiment seeks to assess whether experimentally
controlling girls interaction with Barbie dolls when compared to a neutral doll influences their
developmental ideas about who they want to be in the future.
Gender is a socially constructed concept and it denotes the behavior and characteristics associated
with either men or women (Sherman Zurbriggen, 2014). Different studies have shown that the
comprehension and acceptance of gender roles commence at a very early age (Sherman Zurbriggen,
2014). Playing with dolls or toys has been found to influence gender roles in kids. Play with Barbie
dolls is a significant source of gendered socialization because it conveys a sexualized adult to young
girls. However, research focusing on

Egoism And Moral Skepticism By James Rachels
James Rachels introduces in his written works, Egoism and Moral Skepticism, two different theories
of human nature: psychological egoism and ethical egoism. The theory of psychological egoism refers
to the view that all human actions are self centered. On the other hand, the theory of ethical egoism is
the idea that we are not obligated to do anything other than what is in our interest. Most individuals
would consistently believe in ethical egoism because most generally care about the well being of
others. The scenario states that there is an outbreak of a deadly disease in the remote area where a
colleague and I are spending our month long business trip, working with two other people from the
local village. A viral of vaccine was dropped off by officials from the government s disease control
agency, but it is only enough to completely ensure two people and 99% chance if it was equally
distributed. My colleague and I are given the opportunity to keep the vaccine to ourselves without the
others knowing. My colleague, who is an ethical egoist, tells me that we should not share because
there is no reason for us to help the others and put our lives at risk for not taking the full amount of
vaccine. For the sake of the vaccine and the argument, I will accept my colleague s ethical theory and
based on his views, I will convince him to share with the others. I believe this is a better approach
because an ethical egoist s primary principle is himself and therefore, by focusing on

Their Eyes Were Watching God Book Analysis
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Oprah Winfrey alters the novel s story line so much, that Zora
Neale Hurston herself is unable to recognize her own story. The novel is a great story about a young
woman finding herself, but the movie is made into a love story, which is not what the story was meant
to be. The strength in the Characters and their relationships have been changed from the novel, to
Oprah Winfrey s movie, which causes heated arguments and characters to do things that they would
not do in the novel. Oprah Winfrey purposely took out characters in her movie to remove the black on
black racism and placed the typical white man to be racist. Zora Neale Hurston would not understand
Oprah Winfrey s movie after reading her book.

The Effects Of Mental Disorders In The Movie Superstar
Mental disorders have long been the Achilles heel of the medical world. With each case having some
degree of uniqueness, physicians are often unable to fully treat these types of conditions with just a
generalized medication or textbook treatment option. There are many competing theories as to how
one falls ill to a mental disorder. Some claim that it occurs solely through chemical imbalances within
a person s brain, while others see it as a more wholistic problem that is the result of an endless
possibility of differing factors. Through the characterization found within Superstar and The Yellow
Wallpaper and the data shown in studies done by the Medical University of Lublin, it becomes evident
that seemingly internal disorders, such as anorexia and hysteria, are caused, in reality, by the need for
social control that develops in response to purely external factors such as daunting expectations or
stressful lifestyle. Karen Carpenters tragic fall into anorexia, as depicted in the film Superstar , is a
prime example of how debilitating external factors can result in the development of an internal
disorder. The characterization of Karen Carpenter in the film reveals the overwhelming stress she
experienced as a result of her hectic career as a performer. When speaking to her brother about their
career, she says, it is just wearing on me (Haynes). Furthermore, throughout the film, the parents of
the Carpenter household are characterized as being overprotective and

Which system do you prefer?
EOQ/ ROP system:
Advantage1) The system achieves the balance between two costs ordering cost and the carrying cost.
2) The system keeps track of removals from inventory on a continuous basis, so the system can
provide information on the current level of inventory for each item
3) The system helps meet the anticipated customer demand.
4) The system keeps buffers between successive operations to maintain continuity of production
(reducing the variability in demand at various stages).
Disadvantage1) EOQ/ROP system is essentially a reactive approach; this approach gives only an order
quantity, it does not suggest ways to reduce the inventory.
4
2) For implementation of EOQ a perpetual inventory counting system needs to be in place, this
implies substantial investments which might not be feasible for some.
3) Even if EOQ system is in place there is necessity to physically count the inventory periodically in
order to ascertain the accuracy of the system.
4) EOQ/ ROP is a static system that is, it does not change automatically with the change in demand.
For every period a new EOQ/ ROP needs to be established.
5) It is valid for a single product and not a basket of products. (Assumption made while deriving the
EOQ/ ROP.)
6) It does not take into account

Superman Stereotypes
. A stereotypical male is supposed to enjoy fighting and superhero movies. According to the American
Psychological Association, watching superheroes may not be the best image for boys to see if society
wants to promote kinder, less stereotypical male behaviors If a male chose to watch the Notebook, A

Why do the movies men choose to watch determines whether they are masculine or not? If we look at

Segregation and the Civil Rights Movement Essay
Protest against injustice is deeply rooted in the African American experience. The origins of the civil
rights movement date much further back than the 1954 Supreme Court ruling on Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka which said, separate but equal schools violated the Constitution. From the
earliest slave revolts in this country over 400 years ago, African Americans strove to gain full
participation in every aspect of political, economic and social life in the United States. Segregation
was an attempt by white Southerners to separate the races in every sphere of life and to achieve
supremacy over blacks. Segregation was often called the Jim Crow system, after a minstrel show

One of the cases against segregated rail travel was Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), in which the Supreme
Court of the United States ruled that separate but equal accommodations were constitutional.
However, in 1952, the Supreme Court heard a number of school segregation cases, including Brown v.
Board of Topeka, Kansas. It decided unanimously in 1954 that segregation was unconstitutional,
overthrowing the 1869 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling that had set the separate but equal precedent. As
desegregation progresses, the membership of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) grew. The KKK used violence
or threats against anyone who was suspected of favoring desegregation or black civil rights. Klan
terror, including intimidation and murder, was widespread in the South in the 1950s and 1960s, though
Klan activities were not always reported in the media. One terrorist act that did receive national
attention was the murder of Emmit Till, 14 year old black boy slain in Mississippi by whites who
believed he had flirted with a white woman. The trial and acquittal of the men accuse of Till s murder
were covered in the national media, demonstrating the continuing racial bigotry of Southern whites.
To protest segregation, blacks created new national organizations. The National Afro American
League was formed in 1890; the Niagra Movement in 1905; and National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909. In 1910,

of the approval of the FDA. When they stated that cloned meat didn t require labeling for their food

While reviewing this website, I ve come to understand that cloning meat is and has been treacherous
to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different chemicals,
making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by saying it s a
harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really does not. The scariest
part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then
studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted
in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and
mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated
with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed
significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in
bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the
first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked
meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest
economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a
profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the
highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical
limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted
intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research
also shows that many cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable

this cataclysm. Earthquakes are known around the world for their destruction and its killing path that
in the most powerful situations they can provoke. An earthquake happens when two blocks of the
earth suddenly slip past one another and the surface where they slip is called the fault. The location of
the earthquake above the surface is called the epicenter. Earthquakes has foreshocks and aftershocks

The Goals Of Language Learning And Teaching
The goals of language learning and teaching
Introduction
It is generally recognized that language is a vehicle for the expression or exchanging of thoughts,
concepts, knowledge, and information as well as the fixing and transmission of experience and
knowledge. (Bussmann, 1996: 253)
Language is the method in which people from certain culture organize their thoughts, helping them to
communicate with each other. Moreover, language shapes their relationship with other cultural people,
and different languages have abilities to shape that relationship differently. Setting language learning
goals is one of the most important key strategies, which mostly successful language learners obtain.
The biggest problem of language learners obtaining is lack of language learning goals. Kern (1995)
noted that it is meaningful to understand learners beliefs and desires about language learning, which
gives the important point of language learning goals.
In general goals, Coleman (1996) found that the six most popular reasons were because I like the
language, for my future career, for travelling in different countries, to have a better understanding of
other countries thinking way, and because I would like to live in foreign countires.
In SLA perspective, there are many goals for language learners. SLA focuses on whether the learners
actually obtain native like competence (Long, 1990), The goal can be overcoming problems with
language learner s communicative abilities; the

Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society
Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of
scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era
in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism
has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an
increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their
breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a
fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s
elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the
upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left
violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled
as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much
of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful
population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that
undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by
violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem.

Reasons For The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy
November 22, 1963; a date which will forever go down in history as one of the most life changing
events of America s past. On this day, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the
United States, left America as a collective whole melancholy, enraged, speechless, lost, and, quiet
obviously, alarmed. While many believe that the assassination of JFK occurred because of multiple
assassins, there is simply not enough hard evidence to prove that this idealistic conspiracy is in fact

Julius Caesar Julius Caesar was a roman politician and general, who led a big role in the events that
demised the Roman Republic that led to the beginning of the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar was born
on the 12th of July, 100 BCE, into a noble family. His father was a Praetor who governed the province
in Asia, but at the age of 16, his father died and he became the head of the family. He joined a church
because he thought it was the best for the family, where he became the High Priest of Jupiter. He later
had complications with the government and personal life, because he had married a woman named

play an important part in motivating and exciting students about these subjects. Robotics involve

A revolute or rotary joint is capable of rotation but not extension. A simple hinge joint is an example,
as is a lazy susan. A prismatic joint is capable of a sliding motion, but not rotation. A drawer slide is a
type of prismatic joint. Robotic arms are often divided into four types depending upon the shape of the
space that the arm can reach. This space is called the work envelope. For the human arm, the work
envelope is about three fourths of the inside of a sphere whose diameter is equal to the length of the
arm when fully extended. A robotic arm with the same work envelope is said to have a revolute or
articulated configuration. Revolute robotic arms have a shoulder and an elbow. The shoulder is
mounted on a rotating base (like a lazy susan ) that allows the arm to rotate, and has a rotary hinge
joint that allows the upper arm to move up and down. The elbow of a revolute robotic arm also has a
rotary joint that allows the forearm to move up and

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
Description of the issue/concern Participation in high intensity sporting activities is widely considered
to be a contributor to positive cardiac health. However, for a portion of the athletic population, sudden
cardiac arrest (SCA) poses a serious risk (Chatard, Mujika, Goiriena, Carre, 2016). Although
considered rare with estimates of one death every three days in the United States (Pigozzi, Rizzo,
Maffulli, 2009), the impact of the often fatal event resonates through society due to the young age of
the athlete and the immediacy of the decline of the perceived healthy person (Chatard et al., 2016).
SCA in athletes under the age of 35 years predominantly occurs when there is a malfunction of the
normal electrical conduction in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Low Mass Stars Research Paper
Since we first gazed upon the heavens, man has been perplexed over where the bright lights in the sky
have come from. This report will provide information for the birth and death of both low and high
mass stars that is supported by scientifically proven statements and observations. It is the long held
belief of many, that molecular clouds are the nurseries of stars. These dense clouds of gas are most
often found in the spiral arms of galaxies. Obviously, smaller cloud produce low mass stars while
large clouds produce high mass stars which collapse much faster than their smaller siblings during the
protostar phase ( Washington). At this point, the cloud is cool with very low pressure. Once these
clouds of gas become dense enough, they collapse to create the beginnings of a star know ... Show

These clumps are shaped into disks and, after approximately one million years, a protostar will form
in its center. Protostars continue to run off the same gravitational energy that was released by the
initial collapse and continue to suck in dusty material from the space around itself. Once protostars are
hot and dense enough to burn Hydrogen and Helium in their core they enter the main sequence period
of their lives (NASA). Now, we can classify these stars further based on their masses.
Low mass stars are exactly what you think. They are the creation of smaller molecular gas clouds and
the subsequent protostars. Our very own Sun comes from this family and has relatively low luminosity
and temperature. Thankfully, the smaller a star is the less fuel it needs to consume. This means that it
will also have a longer lifetime before exhausting it energy supply in the core. But, once it has eaten
though all of its gas the star will grow redder, larger, and more luminous (NASA).If we continue to
track the life of a star like our Sun, we can see that next

Baroque period through the postmodern era. 1). Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio; 2) Rembrandt
van Rijn; and 3) Peter Paul Rubens, these three artists were known for their religious theme in their art
work. The naturalism that was visibly demonstrated in each of the artist work with high contrast of

Until the late 19th century many biographers and art scholars deliberately ignored Caravaggio work.
Some people felt as if his work was to natural or just ordinary. (Sayre, 2010) His work of art was
characterized by displaying weakness or humankind. Sometime people had a difficult time trying to
figure out if his painting was religious or not. In fact the contrast in his paintings between light and
dark tones was evident in the spiritual content and its representation in the painting. (Sayre, 2010)
Caravaggio became ill on a beach in Port Ercole. Caravaggio passed away July 18, 1610 after battling
with malaria which he fought to overcome.
Rembrandt van Rijn: The Resurrection of Christ c. 1635 39 (Oil on Canvas)
Description of Rembrandt Work of Art
The Resurrection of Christ is from the Baroque period. This work of art portrays the sense of dramatic
antagonism that Caravaggio achieved by manipulating light across full range of tones, changing the
intensity and transforming its radiance this was done so that every beam and shadow expressed a
dissimilar emotional content. (Sayre, 2010) In Rembrandt painting he focused on using emotional
contrast between light and dark tones to emphasize the emotional difference. Here you can see pure
light radiating out of the tomb of darkness. Christ himself begins to rise from the tomb in the light of

This essay will discuss the differences between the two architects, Le Corbusier and Laurie Baker and
how concerns such as sustainability and climate change relates to contemporary visual culture. Le
Corbusier was born in Switzerland on October 6th, 1887 and died in France on August 27th, 1965.
Corbusier was known for his minimalist designs and theoretical implementations to his designs.
Corbusier uses what he titles it to be the five points of a new architecture and in these points, it is clear
to see that Corbusier prioritises aesthetics over function. Laurie Baker was born in England on March
2nd, 1917 and died in India on April 1st, 2007. Baker looked at both technical and aesthetic qualities
equally and did not prioritise in one. Baker constantly considers the way to provide an eco friendly
way to produce something whereas Corbusier s designs involved heavy machinery which produces
negative contributions to the environment. This essay mainly use the recourses, Architecture of rural
housing: some issues in India by Romi Khosla, Le Corbusier s Ruins: The Changing Face of

Capitalism tends to sow the seeds of its own destruction. Discuss.
Introduction:
Entering the 21st Century, these past few years we have begun to encounter and see the beginning of
world economic crises. The financial crisis of 2007 2008 and the oil crisis of 2003 2008 are just the
few of many examples that we have seen and been impacted by. These events have threatened the
collapse of large financial institutions, the stock market, and has led to current issues such as the rising
of unemployment, and the cost of living. Karl Marx explains to us that the economic crisis we still
face up until today isn t from the results of the boom and bust cycle as capitalist economics would
have people believing in, but occurs because of the wicked economic system that many countries
across the globe have adopted the policies and systematic of capitalism. Like Marx said, The real
barrier of capitalist production is capital itself (Marx and Engels, 1948). This academic paper will
outline the different theories and factors that allow readers to understand the reasons of how
capitalism leads to her own destruction and contribute to the rising crises we face presently today.
Capitalism:
Capitalism is defined as an economic system in where a great number of workers who own little

A. Some mild hybrids will also be equipped with regenerative braking that will essentially charge the
battery packs under braking.
B. Mild hybrids are not capable of exclusively operating on the Electric motor.
2. A Series hybrid platform, sometimes referred to as range extending electric vehicles (REEV)

B. Series hybrid s only have electric motors to provide propulsion while maintaining an exceptionally
high power to weight ratio providing enough torque over a broad range of speeds.
C. The gasoline engine drives an electric generator which charges the battery bank at which point the
electric motor use the power from the battery bank to drive the vehicle.

A Sand County Almanac Summary
Fall is a time of change. The leaves change from green to brilliant shades of brown, red and yellow.
The seasons begin to change from the dog days of summer to the cool stillness of winter. Fall is my
favorite time of the year. When asked to choose just one chapter from A Sand County Almanac, my
first idea was to look in the section about the fall.
When reading the chapters about Fall, the one that struck a chord was the chapter about October. I
chose this section because it really seemed to paint a picture that reminded me of what the fall is like.
In Smoky Gold , the writer discusses hunting for birds. This is defiantly something that I associate
with the month of October. In Too Early, the author discusses what a person who chooses to go out
into the wild before dawn can witness. In Red Lanterns, the author discusses a pheasant hunt. All of
these readings give a feeling of fall. They reflect the month for which they were entitled and they help
to paint a picture of what I believe fall is. That is why I chose to write about this specific section of A
Sand County Almanac.
The first section of this chapter is called Smoky Gold. In this section of the chapter, the writer
discusses grouse hunting. He states that few people are aware of the grouse population in Adams
County. He goes on to say that most hunters speed on through to the counties farther north. He smiles
as he sits in the tamaracks and listens to sounds of these other hunters speeding by. The point he is
trying to make here is that there can be beauty in many places; you just have to take the time to slow
down and experience this beauty. The hunters that speed by are on their way to hunt in another place.
This is most likely a place they have been before. They are used to doing things the same way and
they do not take the time to try anything new. If they would slow down, they may come to discover
that what they are looking for can be found in Adams County.
Section two is called Too Early. In this section of the chapter, the author discusses the beauties that can
be seen by people and animals that get up before the sunrise. The author describes showing up at the
marsh too early for the sun was really a lesson in listening. The

Eastern Grey Kangaroo
General Information and Unique Abilities:
Macropus fuliginosus, more commonly known as the Eastern Grey Kangaroo is one of the largest
kangaroo species. Kangaroos are usually known for the pouch they possess in their belly region (to
hold the joey) and their ability to hop from place to place. Their huge feet, tail and strong muscles
allow them to execute this unique movement. Surprisingly, the faster they hop, the less energy they
need. Kangaroos move at an average of 30 miles per hour, which is faster than the fastest human
runner (Fastest runner runs at a speed 23.7mph).
Anatomy, Diet and More Facts:
Eastern Grey Kangaroos possesses grey brown fur which is paler on the underarms, a finely haired
muzzle, and dark tips to the paws, feet and the tail. Their muscular tails are much stronger than their
arms. Kangaroos are overall strong animals however, they have bad eyesight. In contrast, their sense
of hearing and smell is amazing. Male Eastern Grey Kangaroo tend to be much larger (in size) than
female kangaroos. Their diet includes of grasses, flowers, leaves, ferns, fungi and mosses considering

implementation in his organization. Even though a big improvement over the efficiency and success of
execution between the first ERP round (Mirabel plant) and second round (Saint Laurent plant), there is
still room for improvement.
The focus is to identify the practices vs. the best of the best practices in the industry in relation to ERP
implementation and offer specifics on how to make this third round provide a higher success rate.
Main Problem: The rollout of ERP at the Mirabel plant and then followed by the Saint Laurent plant
did improve, but still had their fair share of challenges. Our area of improvement will be from the
results given after ERP went live at Saint Laurent. The main problem appears to be still be a
disconnect between the business vs. project team and properly communicating and training those who
will be using the new ERP system (SAP in this situation). While the overall response was positive, not
every issue from the Mirabel plant has been corrected and resolved.
Symptoms: A few symptoms mentioned was that specialized knowledge was concentrated in a few
individuals, embellishing the scorecards to mask some of the issues, gaps in understanding of priority
between project team and actual business, and finally some feedback on wanting SAP to have done
more for an individual s current job.
The scope of the problem involves the

The Financial Crisis Of 2007-2008
An excess of regulation, rather than an insufficiency of it, was the principal cause of the recent credit
crunch. The financial crisis of 2007 2008, also known as the Global Financial Crisis and 2008
financial crisis, is considered by some economists such as Nouriel Roubini, professor of economics
and international business at New York University, Kenneth Rogoff, professor of economics and
public policy at Harvard University, and Nariman Behravesh, chief economist and executive vice
president for IHS Global Insight, to have been the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of
the 1930s. All of them agreed that this is a one in fifty years event , however the latest Great
Recession is not a typical cyclical recession of the World Economy and no doubt will last for more
that usual two years (Business Wire, Reuters). The crisis played a significant role in the failure of key
businesses, declines in consumer wealth estimated in trillions of U.S. dollars, and a downturn in
economic activity leading to the 2008 2012 global recession and contributing to the European
sovereign debt crisis. (M. N. Baily, D. J. Elliott, 2009). So what are the cаuses of this crisis? Mаny
factors dirеctly and indirectly caused the Great Recession, with expеrts plаcing different weights upon
pаrticular causes. Major cаuses of the initial sub prime mortgage crisis and following recession
include: Internаtional trade imbalances and tax lending stаndards contributing to high levels of

What Are The Effects Of Living In A Dystopian Society
Imagine being in a world, where all you think about is fear. You don t have a personality of your own.
Your whole life is an upside down roller coaster. You would be living in a Dystopian society. A
Dystopian society is a horribly unpleasant place in which everything goes wrong. Authors use
Dystopian society s a lot in novels. Imagine if the world was one giant Dystopian Fiction. A Dystopian
Fiction could have many negative effects on the world.
One of the many negative effects could be violence. In a Dystopia, there can be a lot of violence
because nobody is happy. Everybody is in so much fear. While writing Dystopian novels, an author
magnifies disturbing trends seen in their own time. The author uses things that have happened in the
past. Some of the most famous novels revolve around the downside of human intervention in health
and genetics . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuality is when somebody loses their personality. Everyone is always the same and nobody can
be unique in their own way. An example of this is in the book A Wrinkle in Time. When Meg, Calvin,
and Charles are in Camazotz, they find that everybody must rely on a schedule and must do exactly
the same as everyone else in their town. A quote taken from this novel is Camazotz is One Mind . This
quote is saying that everybody is one or the same. Another quote from the book is Like and equal are
not the same thing at all . This is what the leader of Camazotz said to the main character,

Literary Analysis Of The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall ...
Rachell Burns
English 1302 Section 155
October 26, 2015
Symbolism in Literature Writers often use a myriad of different literary techniques to express different
ideas to those who read their work. One of the most common tools authors utilize would be the use of
symbols to portray an abstract meaning different from the literal interpretation of the text. This
element of a story helps connect an object or idea with the greater meaning within a story through
literary analysis. This helps make the moral of the story more meaningful to the specific reader. In The
Jilting of Granny Weatherall, A Jury of Her Peers, and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings,
Katherine Porter, Susan Glaspell, and Gabriel Marquez use one or more predominant symbols to
enforce the integrity of the message they are trying to convey to their readers. One example of strong
symbolism is in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, by Katherine Porter when the author uses the color
blue as a way to connect the present with different phases in the life of Granny Weatherall, the main
character who comes to accept the inevitability of her own death. The color is first used to describe
the, white stone china jars with blue whirligigs and words painted on them: coffee, tea, sugar, ginger,
cinnamon, allspice, (Porter) in the neatly kept home of her youth. The author seems to use the color to
bring to life a part of Granny s life when she was young, energetic, and kept a well organized house.
The next time the

  • 2. Hegemonic Masculinity In Contemporary Hollywood ABSTRACT Hyper masculinity, defined as the exaggeration of physical strength, aggression and sexuality that essentializes masculinity (Mosher Sirkin, 1984), appears to be a prevalent feature of contemporary science fiction films in Hollywood in the year 2000s. The films ability to influence the masses lies in its ability to reach many people at the same time, thus transcending boundaries of time and space. Since the American film industry is a dominant force in world television (Tudor, 2013), the portrayals of masculinity in contemporary Hollywood sci fi films have the potential to penetrate the minds of people around the world, across different time zones. In this paper, we argue that contemporary Hollywood sci fi films perpetuate hegemonic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although The Matrix Reloaded (2003) is more dated than The Incredible Hulk (2008), it is highly relevant to this discourse on masculinity as it offers a starkly contrasting image of masculinity that is not founded upon essentialist notions of physical strength, aggression and sexuality. Furthermore, since The Matrix Reloaded (2003) achieved third place in the international box office, its popularity demonstrates society s receptivity to alternative portrayals of ... • 3. Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children Tone and Imagery in The School Children Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions. Though Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely visual work with three dynamic sets of characters. Gluck continuously presents the schoolchildren as simple, orderly creatures. She portrays them as heading to school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue to be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct. Gluck s final set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender, Employment, And Career Advancement In the US, there have been considerable efforts to bring gender equity in the domains of education, employment and career advancement. However, several occupations are still highly gender segregated (ACLU, 2013). It has been found that the choices of such occupations could be shaped during early childhood through gendered socialization. Playing with dolls is an important factor in the gender socialization process. Dolls boost the cultural ideals that are linked to the place of girls in the society. Barbie dolls tend to send negative images to young girls since they illuminate a fancy sexual figure that seems unattainable (Grade, Ward Hyde, 2008). There is limited data on the negative effects this doll has on the gender socialization of girls. This experiment seeks to assess whether experimentally controlling girls interaction with Barbie dolls when compared to a neutral doll influences their developmental ideas about who they want to be in the future. Gender is a socially constructed concept and it denotes the behavior and characteristics associated with either men or women (Sherman Zurbriggen, 2014). Different studies have shown that the comprehension and acceptance of gender roles commence at a very early age (Sherman Zurbriggen, 2014). Playing with dolls or toys has been found to influence gender roles in kids. Play with Barbie dolls is a significant source of gendered socialization because it conveys a sexualized adult to young girls. However, research focusing on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Egoism And Moral Skepticism By James Rachels James Rachels introduces in his written works, Egoism and Moral Skepticism, two different theories of human nature: psychological egoism and ethical egoism. The theory of psychological egoism refers to the view that all human actions are self centered. On the other hand, the theory of ethical egoism is the idea that we are not obligated to do anything other than what is in our interest. Most individuals would consistently believe in ethical egoism because most generally care about the well being of others. The scenario states that there is an outbreak of a deadly disease in the remote area where a colleague and I are spending our month long business trip, working with two other people from the local village. A viral of vaccine was dropped off by officials from the government s disease control agency, but it is only enough to completely ensure two people and 99% chance if it was equally distributed. My colleague and I are given the opportunity to keep the vaccine to ourselves without the others knowing. My colleague, who is an ethical egoist, tells me that we should not share because there is no reason for us to help the others and put our lives at risk for not taking the full amount of vaccine. For the sake of the vaccine and the argument, I will accept my colleague s ethical theory and based on his views, I will convince him to share with the others. I believe this is a better approach because an ethical egoist s primary principle is himself and therefore, by focusing on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Effects Of Mental Disorders In The Movie Superstar Mental disorders have long been the Achilles heel of the medical world. With each case having some degree of uniqueness, physicians are often unable to fully treat these types of conditions with just a generalized medication or textbook treatment option. There are many competing theories as to how one falls ill to a mental disorder. Some claim that it occurs solely through chemical imbalances within a person s brain, while others see it as a more wholistic problem that is the result of an endless possibility of differing factors. Through the characterization found within Superstar and The Yellow Wallpaper and the data shown in studies done by the Medical University of Lublin, it becomes evident that seemingly internal disorders, such as anorexia and hysteria, are caused, in reality, by the need for social control that develops in response to purely external factors such as daunting expectations or stressful lifestyle. Karen Carpenters tragic fall into anorexia, as depicted in the film Superstar , is a prime example of how debilitating external factors can result in the development of an internal disorder. The characterization of Karen Carpenter in the film reveals the overwhelming stress she experienced as a result of her hectic career as a performer. The origins of the civil rights movement date much further back than the 1954 Supreme Court ruling on Brown v. From the earliest slave revolts in this country over 400 years ago, African Americans strove to gain full participation in every aspect of political, economic and social life in the United States. It decided unanimously in 1954 that segregation was unconstitutional, overthrowing the 1869 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling that had set the separate but equal precedent. As desegregation progresses, the membership of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) grew. The KKK used violence or threats against anyone who was suspected of favoring desegregation or black civil rights. Klan terror, including intimidation and murder, was widespread in the South in the 1950s and 1960s, though Klan activities were not always reported in the media. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. (Bussmann, 1996: 253) Language is the method in which people from certain culture organize their thoughts, helping them to communicate with each other. Moreover, language shapes their relationship with other cultural people, and different languages have abilities to shape that relationship differently. Setting language learning goals is one of the most important key strategies, which mostly successful language learners obtain. The biggest problem of language learners obtaining is lack of language learning goals. Kern (1995) noted that it is meaningful to understand learners beliefs and desires about language learning, which gives the important point of language learning goals. In general goals, Coleman (1996) found that the six most popular reasons were because I like the language, for my future career, for travelling in different countries, to have a better understanding of other countries thinking way, and because I would like to live in foreign countires. • 17. Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. Jason Mikha Student Number: 27004791 Art and design theory C December 2015 This essay will discuss the differences between the two architects, Le Corbusier and Laurie Baker and how concerns such as sustainability and climate change relates to contemporary visual culture. Le Corbusier was born in Switzerland on October 6th, 1887 and died in France on August 27th, 1965. Corbusier was known for his minimalist designs and theoretical implementations to his designs. Corbusier uses what he titles it to be the five points of a new architecture and in these points, it is clear to see that Corbusier prioritises aesthetics over function. Laurie Baker was born in England on March 2nd, 1917 and died in India on April 1st, 2007. Baker looked at both technical and aesthetic qualities equally and did not prioritise in one. Karl Marx explains to us that the economic crisis we still face up until today isn t from the results of the boom and bust cycle as capitalist economics would have people believing in, but occurs because of the wicked economic system that many countries across the globe have adopted the policies and systematic of capitalism. Like Marx said, The real barrier of capitalist production is capital itself (Marx and Engels, 1948). This academic paper will outline the different theories and factors that allow readers to understand the reasons of how capitalism leads to her own destruction and contribute to the rising crises we face presently today. • 40. A Sand County Almanac Summary Fall is a time of change. The leaves change from green to brilliant shades of brown, red and yellow. The seasons begin to change from the dog days of summer to the cool stillness of winter. Fall is my favorite time of the year. When asked to choose just one chapter from A Sand County Almanac, my first idea was to look in the section about the fall. When reading the chapters about Fall, the one that struck a chord was the chapter about October. I chose this section because it really seemed to paint a picture that reminded me of what the fall is like. In Smoky Gold , the writer discusses hunting for birds. This is defiantly something that I associate with the month of October. In Too Early, the author discusses what a person who chooses to go out into the wild before dawn can witness. In Red Lanterns, the author discusses a pheasant hunt. All of these readings give a feeling of fall. They reflect the month for which they were entitled and they help to paint a picture of what I believe fall is. That is why I chose to write about this specific section of A Sand County Almanac. The first section of this chapter is called Smoky Gold. In this section of the chapter, the writer discusses grouse hunting. He states that few people are aware of the grouse population in Adams County. He goes on to say that most hunters speed on through to the counties farther north. He smiles as he sits in the tamaracks and listens to sounds of these other hunters speeding by. The point he is trying to make here is that there can be beauty in many places; you just have to take the time to slow down and experience this beauty. The hunters that speed by are on their way to hunt in another place. This is most likely a place they have been before. They are used to doing things the same way and they do not take the time to try anything new. If they would slow down, they may come to discover that what they are looking for can be found in Adams County. Section two is called Too Early. In this section of the chapter, the author discusses the beauties that can be seen by people and animals that get up before the sunrise. The author describes showing up at the marsh too early for the sun was really a lesson in listening. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focus is to identify the practices vs. the best of the best practices in the industry in relation to ERP implementation and offer specifics on how to make this third round provide a higher success rate. Main Problem: The rollout of ERP at the Mirabel plant and then followed by the Saint Laurent plant did improve, but still had their fair share of challenges. Our area of improvement will be from the results given after ERP went live at Saint Laurent. The main problem appears to be still be a disconnect between the business vs. project team and properly communicating and training those who will be using the new ERP system (SAP in this situation). While the overall response was positive, not every issue from the Mirabel plant has been corrected and resolved. Symptoms: A few symptoms mentioned was that specialized knowledge was concentrated in a few individuals, embellishing the scorecards to mask some of the issues, gaps in understanding of priority between project team and actual business, and finally some feedback on wanting SAP to have done more for an individual s current job. The financial crisis of 2007 2008, also known as the Global Financial Crisis and 2008 financial crisis, is considered by some economists such as Nouriel Roubini, professor of economics and international business at New York University, Kenneth Rogoff, professor of economics and public policy at Harvard University, and Nariman Behravesh, chief economist and executive vice president for IHS Global Insight, to have been the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. All of them agreed that this is a one in fifty years event , however the latest Great Recession is not a typical cyclical recession of the World Economy and no doubt will last for more that usual two years (Business Wire, Reuters). • 45. Literary Analysis Of The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall ... Rachell Burns English 1302 Section 155 October 26, 2015 Symbolism in Literature Writers often use a myriad of different literary techniques to express different ideas to those who read their work. One of the most common tools authors utilize would be the use of symbols to portray an abstract meaning different from the literal interpretation of the text. This element of a story helps connect an object or idea with the greater meaning within a story through literary analysis. This helps make the moral of the story more meaningful to the specific reader. In The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, A Jury of Her Peers, and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, Katherine Porter, Susan Glaspell, and Gabriel Marquez use one or more predominant symbols to enforce the integrity of the message they are trying to convey to their readers. One example of strong symbolism is in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, by Katherine Porter when the author uses the color blue as a way to connect the present with different phases in the life of Granny Weatherall, the main character who comes to accept the inevitability of her own death. The color is first used to describe the, white stone china jars with blue whirligigs and words painted on them: coffee, tea, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, (Porter) in the neatly kept home of her youth. The author seems to use the color to bring to life a part of Granny s life when she was young, energetic, and kept a well organized house. The next time the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
