GENDER ROLES
A gender role, also
known as a sex role,
is a social role
encompassing a
range of behaviors
and attitudes that are
generally considered
acceptable,
appropriate, or
desirable for a
person based on that
person's biological or
perceived sex.

GENDER IDENTITY
Gender identity is the sense of oneself as a male
or female. Gender identity involves more than
the anatomical–it involves the inner knowledge
and outer expression of one's sex.
The dominant view has been that gender
identity resides within the individual, although
more recent views challenge this assumption by
arguing that gender identity is created in the
context of interactions, societal structures.

But gender identity is about how you
experience your own gender, despite what
society expects. Your gender can be shown
through your identity (eg. labels,
pronouns), body (eg. appearance) and
expression (eg. how you act, how you
dress).
There are lots of possible gender
identities out there! People can identify
as one of the binary genders, as moving
between genders, as no gender or as
another gender altogether.

• Gender Inequality in Education. In
educational institutions, gender inequality
has been experienced.
• Girls have been discriminated against in
terms of various aspects as compared to
their male counterparts. ... The parents at
home and teachers in school need to
provide equal participation opportunities
to girls.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN
SOCIETY:
• Gender disparity still exists in India. Being born as
women in the Indian society one has to face
gender discrimination at all levels.
• At the household level - females are confined to
the bounds of their household chores, raising
children and looking after families, irrespective of
her education degrees or her job profile.
• At her workplace: women have limited access to
job opportunities and are paid less for the same
work.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
• Violence against women and girls takes many
different forms, including domestic violence,
sexual assault and harassment, child, early and
forced marriage, sex trafficking, so called
‘honor’ crimes and female genital mutilation.
• It is rooted in the gender inequality that
women face throughout their lives from
childhood through to old age.

her freedom to participate more fully and
equally in society.

GENDER ROLES A gender role, also known as a sex role, is a social role encompassing a range of behaviors and attitudes that are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for a person based on that person's biological or perceived sex. Gender identity involves more than the anatomical–it involves the inner knowledge and outer expression of one's sex. The dominant view has been that gender identity resides within the individual, although more recent views challenge this assumption by arguing that gender identity is created in the context of interactions, societal structures. Being born as women in the Indian society one has to face gender discrimination at all levels. • At the household level - females are confined to the bounds of their household chores, raising children and looking after families, irrespective of her education degrees or her job profile. • At her workplace: women have limited access to job opportunities and are paid less for the same work.
