SITUATION OF GENDER DIFFERENCE-EDUCATIONAL AND
SOCIAL
3. INTRODUCTION
• According to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Association, “ Gender is cultural and is the term to use when
referring to women and men as social groups and Sex is biological;
use it when the biological distinction is predominant.”
• According to the World Health Organization, “Sex refers to the
biological and physiological characteristics that define men and
women and Gender refers to the socially constructed roles,
behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers
appropriate for men and women.”
• Gender difference is due to nurture, and a sex difference is due to
nature.
4. GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION
• Before the COVID-19 pandemic, an estimated 130 million girls around the
world were not in school, and now 11 million girls might not go back to
school this year. These are daunting numbers that represent real girls who
are being denied their right to an education and the opportunity to grow to
their full potential.
• The need of girls are not often heard or prioritized by those in decision-
making positions. Time and time again research has shown that despite their
best efforts, girls are unable to overcome prejudice, aggression and
misogyny.
• In this reality, it is no surprise that girls cannot decide how long their days
in school will last. From menstruation to forced marriage, girls face
numerous barriers that are keeping them from pursuing a future they want.

7. Where do you find gender inequality in education…….?????
• Some differences in courses taking patterns by
the end of high school.
• Some differences in portrayal of men/women in
curricular materials.
• Micro levels in interactional levels in
classrooms.
• Boys are called on more than girls.
• Boys are given more and different feedback
than girls.
• Boys are allowed more leniency for mild
classroom behavior than girls.
• Educational achievement
• Educational attachment
• Payoffs to education
• Gender segregation of college majors
8. SOLUTIONS TO GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE
FIELD OF EDUCATION
1. Schools Should Make Structural Changes
2. Hiring Needs to Include a Broader Talent Pool
3. Mentoring Can Improve Gender Equity
4. Equity Training May Help Teachers
5. Use Research to Inform Strategies
6. Be Reflective and Be Objective
7. Use Gender-Neutral Language When Appropriate
8. Seat and Group Students Intentionally
9. GENDER DIFFERENCES-SOCIAL
There is a misconception that biology helps determine career
outcomes. However, research shows that men and women are
more similar than different when it comes to factors such as
personality and ability. In fact, these characteristics have more
impact on career trajectory than biology.
The disproportionate number of men in senior positions has
more to do with culture. Men are socialized to overstate the
value of their knowledge and even bluff to get what they want,
whereas women are socialized to be humble. As these
behaviors are rewarded throughout careers, the gender gap
grows wider.
Ample evidence exists showing that women make very
effective leaders, but they need their schools and organizations
to consider them for the roles.
10. • Female work participation rate in India is only 25.7% as compared to 51.0% of male.
• Women comprise just 10% of India’s parliament .
• Out of 35 full cabinet rank minister only 2 are women.
• For same occupation and level of qualification Indian women earn an average of 64%
of what their male counterparts earn.
• Restricted mobility of women.
• Lack of freedom in marriage.
• Economic slavery or dependence.
• Women are the victims of many social violences.
Where the problem lies…..????
11. SOLUTIONS TO GENDER DIFFERENCES….
