Two important GCSE biology questions with
their answers on the topic the digestion
system.

By:
dreamyalyaa
Question 1: what happens to
the food you eat?
Might be
more depending
on the exam
board

5
Marks in
exam.
Answer:

 Simply, since the food has entered the mouth it starts a

process called DIGESTION that involves many organs
in your body to make that process successfully. The
importance of digesting food eaten is that
using/through the digesting system/process your body
can get rid of harmful and un needed substances,
besides taking up on all the beneficial minerals and
substances e.g. vitamins...
Question 2: Explain what
happens to the food from the
time it enters mouth to the
time the waste leaves your
anus.

10 marks
In exam
Might be
more depending
on the exam
board
Answer:

 First of all, the food you eat enters the mouth, and

after that (while chewing the food and grinding it
using your teeth) a solution/ mouth produced liquid
known as saliva produced by the saliva glands. The
saliva helps to break down the food you are chewing,
and makes sure that the Bolus (when your tongue
turns the food into a ball.) to go down your Gullet or
scientifically esophagus (the tube in which food is
transported) easily!
To be
continued
 Then the food arrives to your Stomach and it produces acids to

mix with food helping the food to break down even more than it
is! A main acid that is used in this part of the process is called '
gastric acid'. This also helps to kill bacteria and other germs that
could have got into the food. Once the stomach finds itself
finished the food enters the duodenum( following it the
jejunium and the ileum.). In the small intestine, bile (produced
in the liver and stored in the gall bladder), pancreatic enzymes,
and other digestive enzymes produced by the inner wall of the
small intestine help in the breakdown of food. After passing
through the small intestine, food passes into the large intestine.
In the large intestine, some of the water are removed from the
food. it is a real fact that the bacteria located in the large
intestines help the digestion process. However, in the large
intestines food would travel upwards until reaching the end of
the large intestines.
 Now, the mineral's and substances of the food would

be also sent to the liver to work through the substances
and identify which ones should be kept and which
should be released out. The liver works an important
role as it cleans after the part before the very end of the
digestion system and shares around the body the good
minerals such as vitamins.
•Finally, waste is then stored/kept in the Rectum until it is excreted out of the body by the Anus.

End of Question’s two answer.
If you write this long with this kind of
effort in both question, you’ll surely get
full marks!!!!
