Costco mini case study
Case 2 questions Costco 1. What is Costco s business model? Is the company s business model
appealing? Why or why not? Generating high sales volume and rapid inventory turnover by offering
fee paying members low prices on nationally branded and private label products. Yes, it is appealing
because the fees paid by members allowed for sufficient supplemental revenues while the turnover
rates allowed Costco to receive cash for inventory before it had to pay many of its merchandise
vendors. 2. What are the chief elements of Costco s strategy? How good is the strategy? Pricing,
product selection, treasure hunt merchandising, low cost emphasis, and growth are the chief elements
of Costco s strategy. It is a very good strategy because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6. How well is Costco performing from a financial perspective? They are doing very well from a
financial perspective. Some of the numbers do not look good to the traditional investor, but that is
because Costco is not a traditional company. The current ratio shows that Costco can meet all current
liabilities, while liquidity is also high (which means the company can quickly convert assets into
cash). Profit is also constantly increased by not having to store inventory. 7. Based on the data in case
Exhibits 1, 5, and 6, is Costco s financial performance superior to that at Sam s Club and BJ s
Wholesale? Costco is turning in much higher numbers for total revenue than BJ s and higher sales
than Sam s. Costco holds 57 percent of the market share while BJ s has 8 and Sam s has 35 percent. 8.
How well is Costco performing from a strategic perspective? Does Costco enjoy a competitive
advantage over Sam s Club? Over BJ s Wholesale? If so, what is the nature of its competitive
advantage? Does Costco have a winning strategy? Why or why not? They are performing very well
from a strategic perspective. No, Costco does not enjoy a clear competitive advantage over Sam s. It
does however enjoy a competitive advantage over BJ s. the nature of this competitive advantage
includes the fact that BJ s has too many products, which makes rapid turnover harder to achieve. I
think that Costco has a winning strategy because they are selective with the

Political Elites And Non Elites Among Nations
Many consider political elites to be the upper echelon of society and of our generation. Specifically,
political elites in many countries around the world, regardless of the type of government they possess,
have the influence, wealth, clout, and savvy to determine the outcome of elections in politics as well
as impact the lives of the general population, given their respective countries. Similar to the concept of
Communism, the select few comprised of the elite group in certain countries make the majority of the
decisions with no consequences or repercussions; regardless of how right or wrong that decision may
be. The separation of elites and non elites among nations is extremely staggering mainly due to the
fact that: the distribution of political power is skewed, leaders and elites are conscious of what they
possess politically, they are coherent within the realm of politics (i.e. economic status, defense
spending, campaign funding), conspire with one another when decision making, and they answer to no
one higher than them because of their status. Two primary examples of countries with political elites
present are China and Lebanon. Both countries, although they may not solely advocate such status, tie
in political elites with their respective forms of government (Communism for China) and forms of
religion (Confessionalism for Lebanon). Moreover, although both countries possess the capacity and
discipline to survive and thrive without the presence of political

Why Love Matters: How Affection Shapes a Baby s Brain by Sue Gerhardt
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Author of Why Love Matters and The Selfish Society
SUMMARY
Why babyhood rather than childhood?
The case that I want to make is that babyhood is much more important to our lives than many people
realise. A lot of the behaviour that worries us in later childhood, such as aggression, hyperactivity,
obesity, depression and poor school performance, has already been shaped by children s experiences
in babyhood. For those of you who have not studied the scientific literature, this might seem a bit ...

The over riding importance of early conditions
The strange fact is that very often the early conditions of our lives have a profound impact on the
whole of our development. Let me start by describing how this works with regard to the body and
physical health, which might seem more obvious, because we can see that nutrition affects the body.

Rienhard Heydrich s Death During The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a dark time in humanity s history; a time that should be looked back on in shame.
People lost their compassion and empathy towards one another. These emotions are essential in
keeping peace and harmony throughout the world, and give mankind a natural kindheartedness
towards one another. Having the innate sense to feel for one another and understand the trials and
tribulations others go through is what truly makes us human. This is what was lost during the
Holocaust. The inherent good that humans are born with, was taken away by Adolf Hitler and his
Third Reich. It led to the deaths of entire cultures and millions of innocent peoples lives were changed
for the worse. However, the Nazis did not carry out the mass killings of ... Show more content on

According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Heydrich died in June 1942 from
injuries sustained during an assassination attempt by Czech partisans (United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum). Heydrich was highly regarded by his superiors. Hitler even stated that Heydrich
was one of the best National Socialists, one of the staunchest defenders of the concept of the German
Reich and one of the greatest opponents of all enemies of this Reich (United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum). Before his death, he was tasked with helping structure the Final Solution.
Himmler and Hitler sent him to represent them in the Wannsee Conference in January 20, 1942, to
discuss to the German offices the solution to the Jewish question (United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum). Judging by Hitler s words and Heydrich s high ranking in the Nazi government, Heydrich
was very well respected by Himmler and was his right hand man. And when Heydrich died in 1942
Himmler was very hurt by it and wanted to carry on his legacy. This is what triggered Himmler to start
the Final Solution. So he commenced Operation Rienhard, which was named in honor of Heydrich.
Operation Rienhard was started in the autumn of 1941 (but later renamed in honor of Heydrich) and
marked the start of the Final Solution as history knows it today (United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum). Its goal was to resettle (i.e., to kill) the Polish Jews, (2) to exploit the skilled or manual
labor of some Polish Jews before killing them, (3) to secure the personal property of the Jews
(clothing, currency, jewelry, and other possessions), and (4) to identify and secure alleged hidden and
immovable assets such as factories, apartments, and land (United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum). Death camps were set up in Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka (United States Holocaust

Brief Encounter Essay
Is Brief Encounter best understood as a sober realist drama or as an imaginary love affair?
Brief Encounter (1945), according to Dyer Richard s words (1993, p.9), is a lovely film , but also
pretty much a good one too . It indicates that this film conveys many symbolic meanings, such as how
people struggle in forbidden love, but represents the reality as well, like women are vulnerable in a
relationship. In this essay, it will be claimed from three aspects to prove the film is best understood as
a sober realist drama. The first is about social realism, including pre war nostalgia and low social
position of women. Then it moves to the storyline, in order to show the logic of the narrative structure
of this film. The last point is about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Magazine s comment, The merit of the film, and its charm, is to be found in its simplicity and
sincerity (in Lant, A., 1991, p.163). The content cannot simply be dismissed as fantasy to illustrate the
fact that David Lean let the audiences pay more attention to women s situation and the trauma that war
has made. From the thesis claimed above, Brief Encounter contributes most value to social realism as

Ernest Stravinsky
Stravinsky was an innovative composer of the 20th century and is known to be the most influential of
20th century music. Many of his pieces are contrasting, but the two that I have chosen are his Piano
Sonata (1924) and Tango. These pieces are very diverse. While Stravinsky is not mostly known for his
piano pieces, they are my favorite of his works.
Stravinsky s Piano Sonata, has three movements. The first movement is quarter note equals 112, the
second is adagietto and the third is quarter note equals 112 as well. This piece sounds very similar to
compositions from the Baroque, Classical and Early Romantic eras. All three movements sound like a
mixture of Bach and Beethoven. Stravinsky said that he was influenced greatly by Beethoven

Circular Reasoning/Beg the Question Begging the question is when one supports a claim by using its
premise or another claim as proof. An example would be, Tabbies are cats because it is stylish like a
cat. This is incorrect because it uses the claim that cats are stylish as proof that tabbies are cats. The
fallacy would be fixed by supporting the claim that is being used as proof. A closely related fallacy
would be the circular reasoning fallacy. An example of that would be, Tabbies are cats because it is a

cats because tabbies are cats. To fix this, use proof that does not repeat the claim. ... Show more

A Palace Thief Analysis
In A Palace Thief by Ethan Canin, Mr. Hundert is a teacher who, while good at heart, makes unethical
decisions in times of duress. While others may argue that he also make ethical decisions, these ideas
are quickly depressed with solid evidence. Appearing throughout the story are examples of this
behavior, and even though this story spans over many decades, these decisions are spread evenly in
the story. Certain variables such as his place of work may cause these actions. Mr. Hundert educates
students in a school that is located in the outermost part of Washington DC. This school is limited to
boys and provides housing to said boys. Due to its location, many students are children of people who
are currently in office. During the school year, a new, distinct student arrives. This student, named
Sedgewick Bell, is the son of a senator. This child does not lack any confidence in his actions, and this
trait gets him into trouble. This behavior prompts Mr. Hundert to call the senator s office and the man,
... agreed to meet me one afternoon the following week. (pg. 161) Most if not all teachers have not
even thought about doing this type of thing. In a majority of schools around the country today and
within the last decade have invited parents into the school to talk with teachers; the teachers do not
organize a meeting at the home or office of a parent. Mr. Hundert has voluntarily agreed to fight the
battle in the senator s territory, giving up all previously owned authority. While others may contradict
this concept, they would be incorrect. They may argue that this is not a very important decision as it
may be minor. This would not be correct as this leads to the senator showing evidence that he believes
that he is higher than Mr. Hundert. This is demonstrated by the conversation with the senator. Thus,
this conversation demonstrates that authority has been transferred from Mr. Hundert to Senator Bell.
While this conversation is occurring between the senator and the teacher, an offer is made. The senator
acknowledges that the teacher is indeed a history buff . With this knowledge, he offers an old revolver
that the senator just received. Hundert states, he proceeded to show me an antique sidearm

Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay
Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature
throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity.
This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a
young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis
and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape
her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to
change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions,
it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close
attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself
with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe
to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and
Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s
experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her
race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality.
However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her
mother. This

During the re engagement lesson, I wanted to deliver an effective lesson in which the students were
able to make a connection with everyday life objects and materials. I had other ideas such as using
different colored counting chips, but I decided to incorporate elements that were not common in the
classroom. I decided to use M M s candy, as I felt it would have brought more excitement to the
lesson. After analyzing the teacher s original lesson as well as the students work samples, I realized
the major challenge that the students faced was a conceptual misunderstanding that made the students
struggle with the topic, particularly, pertaining the analysis of the given data. Based on my
observation, the students did not understand the purpose of the bar graph and tally chart in coherence
with each other. She used the same strategy throughout by which she did surveys by requiring the

Pros And Cons Of 3 Day Week
Don t you just love three day weekends? Getting more time off from school and having more time to
spend with friends and family. Studies have shown that four day weeks can improve the work
environment, from helping save money, to people getting better health. Although some people may
say that it is taking time away from learning, work, and other things, the pros are much greater than
the cons; therefore, every week should be a three day weekend. One reason why we should have 3 day
weekends every weekend is because it can save money. With four days, the work environment will be
cutting back on electricity. For example, lights, heating, cooling, etc. Furthermore, with a four day
school week, studies found that attendance went up for both students and teachers. Now schools are
only spending one third of what they were on substitute teachers. Also since 2007, the number of
school districts in colorado that chose to adopt a four day school week to save money rose by 30
percent! In the next 10 years, we may save up to 60 percent of our money. Finally, with less days of
the week, we won t have to pay for food for lunch, buses to get kids to get and from school, and clean
drinking water for the kids to stay hydrated. Another reason why switching to a 4 day week is because
it improves academic and morale performances. According to a paper, a fourth grade math scores went
up over the course of a 4 day school week. Also, work employees morale goes up because they get to

Life is a series of moments that defines us. These moments can be happy or they could be filled with
disappointments. Life is about growing up. It s to become a successful individual with the talent
people receives. Other times people give up and that is why they become depressed and lonely. In The
Catcher in the Rye, Holden goes through conflicts, characterization, and allusions to reveal his main
purpose in life. Salinger describes Holden as a miserable boy that experiences internal conflict
throughout the novel. For example, Holden surrounds himself with negative conflict with the

I study Journalism, so I felt that I had an opportunity to solidify the media s role in all facets of
regional and international relations, with regards to development, transition, and influence (regional as
well as global). I first chose examine Daniel Lerner s development continuum, and this as a reference
point, to discuss the role mass media plays in global transition and development, in particular how it is

Lerner s book addresses developmental change, while the issue in question is of systemic transition.
The concepts apply without exception because they indicate money as a catalyst for all things good
and evil. True power is the ability to influence, to implement change, and to shape popular opinion.
Can the media be controlled by the almighty dollar? Can those with an agenda control it with
intimidation? The question that comes to mind for me is this, I wonder if our media is really any better
off than those (formerly) under government control in Central Europe, which would be more harmful,
a government agenda or capitalistic programming, or for that matter one controlling the other. It is
clear that in the case of Communism the lack of financial ware with all caused it s demise, but could it
also be the case that underground media succeeded in changing public opinion and if so might they be
better off (than the U.S.) with regards to media freedom today. These are questions that will be
answered in the next global generation, as history is written, answers to these questions will be
evident.

The research discussed in this paper has shown similar findings in the benefits of self care. Different
practices such as utilizing social support through friends and family members, using private time to

Now it is time to explore the validity, and generalizability of the findings presented. Although multiple

al. (2012) as well as Killian (2008) both discuss the importance of having a correct ratio of at risk

the study as a high risk patient would be helpful to know that it was general across all participants of
the study. Due to having open ended questions and having the providers list their version of what
burnout is, can alter the study by not having a preliminary set of defined terms, and the subjectivity
can mitigate the results. Participants were providers for consumers with an eating disorder with an

Accounting for Leases 4
Introduction
Accounting for leases is regulated by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in United
States .Standards for accounting leases have been effective since 1977 (Accounting Standard Board,
2004). The primary standard for lease accounting is Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No.
13 (FAS 13).
According to FASB (1976), a lease is an agreement conveying the right to use property, plant, and
equipment (PPE) usually for a stated period of time. Examples of assets that can be leased include
land, buildings, and plant amp; equipment. FASB classified lease as an operating lease or a capital
lease (finance lease). An operating lease is regularly for a shorter period of time and is a rental of the
asset. Under an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, FASB wish to produce a common standard on lease accounting to have higher level of
transparency and comparability to financial statements and to improve on the understanding of
financial reporting (Altamuro, 2005).
The proposed new accounting standards treat all leases as capital leases. This will get rid of the
difference between capital leases and operating leases (Nobes, 2004).FASB and IASB consider that
when issuing a lease contract, a lessee has attained an asset through its right to use the asset and
recognized a liability through its duty to pay rentals. Using the new standard, a lessee is required to
record an asset on behalf of its right to use the leased item on an agreed term and a liability for its
obligation to make pay rental fees.
As for primary measurement, it was cautiously decided that the lessee would record the asset at cost,
which would equal the present value of the lease payments discounted at the lessee s incremental
borrowing rate. The obligation to make rent payments would be recorded at the present value of the
lease payments, discounted at the lessee s incremental borrowing rate (Ochoa, 2011).
After several meetings, the Boards decided to implement the performance obligation approach to
lessor accounting where a lessor would identify an asset representing its right to receive rental
payments and distinguish a liability representing its performance obligation under the lease (Elena
et.al., 2009). Revenue will not be

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Waterfall Method
It is called the waterfall method, because each step follows from the previous one, when the previous
is completed, flowing down like a waterfall. Like a waterfall, stage flow down, not up. This method is
often considered more reliable. I think waterfall is suitable for commercial transactions in which
contracts are signed and money paid. But while working on internal clients, it is harder, based on my
experience, treating the introduced changes at the last minute, when people from your own

The second Toy Story movie, released in 1999, revealed the lesson of the importance of making new
friends. Through the duration of this Disney sequel, you watch how Woody is taken on an adventure
and meets three new friends: Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete. Out of these friends, Jessie and
Bullseye were taken out of a bad situation and were put into a better place where they learned
important lessons, like we do in Beta. Stinky Pete however, was unwilling to go and ended up in a
worse situation than he was before. In my second year of being a member of Beta club, we were
encouraged to go out, make new friends, and introduce more people to the life changing club that we
are a part of. We did this in our school through advertisement of our club and talking to new people.
We also were encouraged to talk to students in other county s during Kentucky State Beta Convention,
to find new and more exciting ways to continue to improve our club and how to get new members in
that process. When doing this, we made new friends and lead students in the club, however there were
always those who just did not want to be a part of the club and were unwilling to change to make their
life better in the future. This lesson taught me, along with the other Beta members, to think about other
people, as we continue to grow in leadership every

Divorce Negative Effects

A Positive Outlook on a Divorce
Divorce is always a dreadful experience in a person s life, especially a child s . When parents divorce,
children are left hopeless and confused. A divorce can cause a child to have a variety of different
reactions. The effects on the child are much more important than the actual divorce. A divorce causes
the most damage to the children in the divorce. Each child sees a divorce differently, but most
divorces have a negative impact on the child s life. When I was a teengager, my parents spilt up. This
was an extremely hard time for me because I was so confused. Their divorce caused me to become
someone who I was not. After the divorce, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divorce has negative effects on children because if children are left out from one of their parents, they
are more likely to have lower self esteem and psychological damage (Portnoy et al. 126). So, some
children of divorced parents have behavior problems, such as, depression, low self esteem actions and
poor school performance (Portnoy et al. 126). Children often feel abandoned and unwanted and some
of them also feel that they are responsible for their parents getting a divorce.
Children usually feel a lot of pain and emotional conflict during and after divorce. Whether they say it
or not, parents can never be sure how deeply children are affected by the divorce and the struggles
around it. After a divorce, the child is left with a bunch of responsibilities that they might not be able
to handle on their own. In a research conducted by Mavis E. Hetherington, found The play patterns of
children from divorced families, in comparison to those of children in non divorced families, were less
socially and cognitively mature when measured shortly after divorce (Hetherington). A divorce affects
a child in many different ways. The hardest responsibility the children have to go through is knowing
how to accept the circumstances taken by their parents. This was hard for me because I had no one to
talk to. I had to try and overcome my feeling of being sad and frustration without showing my peers. I

The Universal Commercial Code, Banks, and Fraudulent Activity
What happens when a bank accepts a check with a forged endorsement? Who suffers the loss? Who is
liable? Where can these answers be found? Check fraud law is governed by Articles 3 and 4 of the
Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State
Laws and the American Law Institute created the Uniform Commercial Code in a joint effort. It took
over ten years to originally draft the UCC, and a further fourteen years for the UCC to be implemented
across the country. The creation of the UCC began in 1940 in an effort to attack major commercial
problems with comprehensive legal solutions The UCC allows commercial organizations to do

the bank have an obligation to their customers to protect them from fraudulent activity? In short, yes.
Customers trust banks to do just that.
In this case, the bank did what it was supposed to do. The court held that a corporate resolution given
to the bank and a signature card gave the officer authority to endorse checks for deposit to the account,
and to draft checks from the account, so the bank was not liable for conversion. These documents
were unambiguous. The resolution and signature card clearly let the officer act for the company
regarding the account, including withdrawing money and endorsing checks for deposit. The fact that
she was not specifically designated as an officer in the resolution was irrelevant. Her acts did not
violate the authority the resolution gave her, and whether she violated company policy related to her
abuse of authority, not a lack of authority. The bank was not liable for such abuse. Given her authority,
nothing put the bank on notice of her illegal activity, so the

Negative Effects Of Technology On Children
Smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions alike have all become a major part of modern culture.
They inform, entertain, amuses and assist us every day with news articles, videos and funny blurbs.
But technology s potentially harmful effect on young children has been a concern of adults for years.
Whether brainwashing children, ruining their eyes or making them violent, the list of the damaging
results of tech use grows longer by the minute. Parents feel the need to limit their child s exposure to
the provocative screens before the damage is irreversible. The concern is completely valid; technology
has the ability to entirely capture a child s attention in almost an unlimited fashion, there is endless
amounts of information for a young mind to absorb. Access to this sea of knowledge could keep a
child from experiencing more physical and interactive activities that build up other important skills
and developments in children. But this sea of knowledge does in fact hold many benefits for kids.
Much of the teachings that daycares and schools provide are on these devices and early access could
help put a kid ahead of the pack. In addition, because of the tremendous impact of technology and its
involvement with humans, kids who learn to use phones and tablets early will be more exposed and
adjusted to an everchanging world. In essence, the dangers of young children overusing electronics
exist but are not life threatening, when use of technology is managed properly children

Django Reinhardt was born into the lifestyle of his gypsy...
Django Reinhardt was born into the lifestyle of his gypsy parents on January 24th, 1910 in a village of
Belgium known as Liberchies. Django, Romani for I awake, has inspired and astonished various
generations of musicians and lovers of jazz with his remarkable control of the guitar and the story of
his upbringing. At just the age of eight, his parents moved near the stretch of barricades that
encompassed the streets of old Paris. Up until he was about twenty years old, he had never really set
down roots somewhere, worn a suit, or lived in a real house. These French Gypsies, also known as
Manouches, were living in a world of their own, primitive in their way of thinking and skeptical of
popular science. Django was raised in a lifestyle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The caravan was supplied with flowers made from celluloid and paper his new spouse had made to
sell at the local market the next day, which immediately ignited everything into flames. Django was
quick enough to wrap himself in a blanket to protect him from the flames and somehow made it
outside to safety along with his wife. However, his right leg was paralyzed and two of his fingers on
his left hand were badly burned. Doctors thought that he would never make music again and planned
to amputate one of his legs but he refused. He soon moved to a nursing home where he was
immobilized for eighteen months, but the care helped him enough to save his leg. Throughout this
time, he received another guitar and with great perseverance he produced a brand new method of
playing that was modeled around the two fingers on his left hand that had the ability to move. The two
fingers that were critically burned were curled towards the palm permanently due to the tendons
diminishing from the heat of the fire. He could utilize them on the first two strings of the guitar for
chords and octaves, but complete use of these fingers was unattainable. This was no detriment to his
talent and all of his soloing and improvisation was done with his index and middle fingers, a true
accomplishment. The few film clips that are available of Reinhardt show his musical ability to be
natural and meticulous, nearly challenging belief. Django was greatly inspired by jazz

Speeding Bullet Two Heaven Analysis
Look no further: Kid Cudi s new record Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven has all the attributes of a bad album
and then some. On the backs of critically panned singles CONFUSED! , Wedding Tux , and the
perfectly named Judgmental Cunt , Cudi s latest record differs incredibly from both Man On The
Moons. This is not a hip hop album, first of all the entire hour long record is guitars and bass, taking
significant inspiration from angsty 90s alt rock. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this, and
Cudi is at least trying to stretch some boundaries. However, he utterly misses the mark. Speeding
Bullet 2 Heaven is an utter failure, a nastily boring album that fails to address any of the flaws in Cudi
s approach to rock songwriting.
It can be hard to cross over genres, just as it is hard to cross over art forms. Some do it with aplomb to
pull a name or two out of the hat, Zooey Deschanel is a talented actor and songwriter, and Justin
Timberlake has proven his worth in comedy and film as much as he has in his music. However, we get
something very different when a egotistical artist who is great in one field crosses over to a new one:
the deluded artist. Here we see Kid Cudi, a reasonably established and quite popular hip hop ... Show

Life, Liberty And The Pursuit Of Happiness
The Course of human events has once again arrived at a time when consideration must be given by the
people to dissolving the political bonds connecting them with another, and to again assume among the
powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Natural Laws entitle them, a decent
respect to the opinions of mankind requires that the people should declare the causes which impel
them to the separation. We reaffirm today these truths to self evident, that all people are created equal,
that they are endowed by creation with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty

The Vietnam War is a strange and unexplainable event in American history. The controversies

The political issues facing NSW (Australia) workers
Large numbers of workers took a union organized demonstration. In this demonstration, they were
against the idea by the liberal national coalition government where they wanted to directly dictate the
public sector idea of wage rises (Columbus, 2007). This demonstration was with reference to the new
legislation in the industrial relations commission which granted increase in rates specified by the
parliament. It had been agreed by the parliament, that any increases that would be made would be
subjected to strict productivity conditions. The laws being addressed here were referred to as O Farrell
laws and they are the ones that provoked anger among the many public sector workers in the state.
Nurse and other support staff in hospitals had agreed to stop working as many governmental
departments remained closed. Many of the civil servants were forced to walk away from their working
places.
Decline in living standards had increased frustration among the civil servants who termed their pay
rates as being low. Despite the fact that year after year there were increases in the wages, they still
lamented that it could not enable them to meet the high living standards in the state.

Analysis Of Anti-Intellectualism Why We Hate The Smart...
In Grant Penrod s Anti Intellectualism: Why We Hate the Smart Kids essay, he argues that academic
achievements should be acknowledged equally just as an athletic achievement. Smart kids do not
receive the acknowledgment that they deserve since society has a negative look regarding smart kids.
Anti Intellectualism is hostile feelings towards intellectuals or intellectual thoughts. Society tends to
celebrate non intellectuals. The essay talks about smart kids being labeled social outcasts for the
reason that average kids have separated themselves from kids smarter than them. Smart kids feel as if
they should retain their intelligence just to fit in a judgmental world. Penrod s argument is effective

of intellectuals being seen in a positive light, there is a disfavor for intellectuals that have become an

Catherine The Great Biography
Catherine the Great, was born on May 2, 1729, in Stettin, Prussia (now Szczecin, Poland), and became
the Russian empress in 1762. During her reign, Russia expanded its borders, made many political

Catherine, started out as a minor German princess. Her birth name was Sophie Friederike Auguste,

Della Mirandola. Because of these issues, it is impossible to consider Niccolo Machiavelli a humanist,
since these concepts are the foundation to every humanistic approach. While Machiavelli s novel was
one of the most prominent works of the 16th century and furthered a new idea for the ruling class, it
hindered the notions that many humanists held dear during the

You cover the region don t you?
Yes.
So how do you get learning to the people? Are they all in one place or do you have to distribute it?
Yes. That is a great question. We do both. We have 6 regional centers across the country. New
Hampshire, Jacksonville Floriday, . SO those regional centers house roughly 1500 associates give or
take a few, you know of a couple hundred given the site we are talking about, but 1500 on average.
Some of those roles are service, some are sales. Some of the programs we run, because we have large
groups there in the building who are local to each other, some might think of a new hire training
coming into service. Entry level position, just starting with Fidelity, we have a classroom of 20
associates that need a learning experience. We can deliver that face to face. Our facilitators are local,
our audience is local. We have ways and means to deliver the training in person, face to face. There
are other times where we deliver training virtually. SO we may have a facilitator in Maramack
delivering to a class of say 5, but there are other associates around the country sitting in classrooms or
conference rooms that may have 3 5 or 10 people. It is one facilitator delivering locally, in person, but
virtually across the country.
That training through webinar technology?
Yes, exactly. I would say the third leg would be just self

1.The project I ve chosen to conduct within final year is an android app that will manage shifts and
communication with employees. This project was established from my own first hand knowledge of
being a customer advisor in a shop. The system I intent on developing aims to combine the current
paper based practices and fingerprint clocking in system into a single easy to use android application.
Within the CMMI v1.3 model there are a number of process areas which I could integrate into my
final year project. Out of these process area s I ve concluded that Verification (VER) would be most
fitting to my project. This is apparent as the purpose of verification is to ensure that work products

requirements. Lastly, carry out the tests on the work product to ensure the specific requirements are
achieved.
SP1.2 is Establishing a verification environment. This specific practice will determine the
environment in which the verification process will take place.
SP1.3 is Establishing verification procedures and criteria. This specific practice defines the
development of the procedures used for verification and the development criteria that will be placed
with the work, product, requirement, tests and verification environment.
The last specific practice of verification is peer reviews as they re a well known resource that can
extinguish defects from work products. The specific goal of peer reviews is to acquire a better
understanding of the requirements and the work products produced from the requirements. Instances
of peer reviews include walkthroughs, inspections and pair programming.

Perfect Baseball Player
The perfect baseball player has a something called the 5 Tools which include speed, hitting for power,
arm strength, hitting for average, and fielding. We have all heard of a top prospect being compared to
one of the greatest athletes of all time. There are times that these prospects turn out to be really good,
but unfortunately there are times that we have witnessed a prospect become a bust. The one thing
missing from that I believe should be added to that list is the ability to have an instinctive mind. A
perfect baseball player needs to have dedication for the game, good eyesight, and be in great physical
shape.
Many of the latest baseball prospects that have made it to the big leads have become some of the best
baseball players around. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, it seems like this player knows that the ball will be either a strike or ball before the pitch is
released. Ben Zobrist is always at the top of the list for taking walks. He also can play almost any
position and that requires a lot of dedication and is extremely great shape for being at the age of 35.
The next player is Mike Trout who can react to a fly ball like a cheetah chasing its prey. He has
incredible power and speed for his size compared to a lot of the other great baseball players which in
large part is due to the fact that he is in incredible shape. Finally, Javier Baez is always full of energy
and can make some of the most impossible defensive plays. For example, he has the quickest hands in
the game of baseball and can take a close tag play and tag the guy out by a mile. His teammate David
Ross, who has been around for a very long time, stated I played with Gold Glovers. I ve played with
Jackie Bradley Jr. (in Boston), who is probably the best center fielder I ve ever played with. I m not
taking anything away from anybody I played with. Javier Baez, at his age (23), has the best hands,
arm, and feel for the game. I m not taking anything away from his bat. He s got a great bat. But this
dude is a baseball player. He knows how to run the bases, knows where to throw the ball. He s got
instincts ahead of where

Hal Niedzvieck s Facebook In A Crowd
What does it mean to be friends? According to google, it is a bond of mutual affection , but that s a
pretty lousy definition. Being friends is much more than that, a friend is someone with whom you can
show your true colors, someone that you call when you re in trouble, someone that you hang out with
and crack jokes. As we stand on the edge of the 4th technological revolution (digital revolution),
which is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres (weforum.org). Which
can be clearly seen with the ever growing popularity of social media that is blurring the line between
friends, acting friendly and connections. The line gets even more blurry with the introduction of VR

It has never been easier to build a long distance relationship or friendship, but all this power at our
fingertips does come with some drawbacks. The definition of the word friend has changed a lot since
the introduction of Facebook in 2004. Some people seems to believe that being friends in social media
translate to friendship in real life. Being friends on social media usually just mean that you guys are
somehow connected according to the six degrees of separation theory, everyone on earth are
connected in six round of introduction or less. Which is not surprising considering that most of our
friend list on Facebook is filled with strangers or acquaintances. Having 700 friends on Facebook does
not mean anything and people wouldn t show up to a party thrown by a stranger. Would you go to a
party thrown by someone who you barely know or never hang out with? Of course, you wouldn t and
that is not Facebook s or the modern world s fault. You have only yourself to blame for being anti

Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Jonathan Quinones
Literature Review Paper
Comm 306
Uncertainty Reduction Theory Uncertainty is an unpleasant feeling and because of this feeling, people
are motivated to reduce this uncertainty by means of communication. Uncertainty reduction theory
(URT) was developed to describe the interrelationships in any type of communication exchange using
seven factors: verbal communication, nonverbal expressiveness, information seeking behavior,
intimacy, reciprocity, similarity, and liking (Berger Calabrese, 1975). During the beginning stage
information about ones sex, age, socio economic status, along with other demographic information
can be obtained. The exchange of information during this beginning stage of communication is usually

Uncertainty reduction within an instructional context is something that as not been researched
extensively, and because teacher student relations is considered to be a type of interpersonal
relationship, it seems warranted that a study in terms of proactive attributions and uncertainty in their
relationship be conducted. Communication satisfaction is an affective response to the accomplishment
of communication goals and expectations, and results when positive expectations are fulfilled, yet is
dependent on whatever expectations individuals have about an interaction (Goodboy Myers, 2007).
With the use of certain axioms in URT such as similarity/homophily, the sharing of attitudes, beliefs,
background, demographics, and physical attributes. The 7th axiom in URT which is Liking, one of the
most common desires of individuals is the need to be liked. Berger and Calabrese (1975) propose:
increases in uncertainty level produce decreases in liking; decreases in uncertainty level produce
increases in liking . The method of this experiment included 147 participants who were undergraduate
students both men and women ranging from ages 18 to 23. Participants completed a survey assessing
their attributional confidence of their instructor from a previous class they attended, using an
Attributional Confidence Scale, Interpersonal communication Satisfaction Inventory, Perceived

Right Choices In The Giver By Lois Lowry
Is a preferred utopian world always turn out to be a perfect world? Life is all about making choices.
You always do your best to make the right ones, and you would do your best to learn from the wrong
ones. Before Jonas became the receiver, he thought that everything was alright. But once he became
the receiver and received memories, the truths, lies, and new things started to appear. Jonas and the
Giver made a plan since Jonas was so angry that the community doesn t know everything. The plan
was to have Jonas find Elsewhere so that he could disperse his memories and the Giver would help the
community take in the pain from the memories. Jonas took Gabriel to escape since he didn t want him
to pass away. In the novel called The Giver , a science fiction novel by Lois Lowry, the main character
named Jonas, made a right decision to leave the community. Three reasons why this was a right
decision is because it could lead to a happier life, save Gabriel, and return the memories to the people.

What caused Jonas to have deeper love and affection for Gabriel, is when he found out that his father
had been always lying to him about his job. To add more to this, Jonas saw a devastating video of a
twin who was killed by his father and the other twin was kept alive. Now, Gabriel was wanted dead
since nurturers can t take good care of him. Jonas wanted Gabriel to live a longer life since his father
said, It s bye bye to you, Gabe, in the morning (165). This addresses my thesis because Jonas had
developed a wonderful relationship with Gabriel where he thinks of him as part of his family. That
feeling of love he had developed with Gabe, made him risk anything to save him experiencing death.
By having Jonas escape his community with Gabriel, he will find Elsewhere to return the memories to

Example Of Defense Mechanisms
Defense Mechanism Defense mechanisms are operated unconsciously without us knowing. There are
8 different defense mechanisms. We use these mechanisms daily but probably do not even realize we
do. These defense mechanisms include repression, denial, reaction, projection, regression,
rationalization, displacement, and sublimation. I have interviewed my boyfriend and along with
myself to identify some of these defense mechanisms. The four different defense mechanisms I have
used in my life is denial, regression, displacement, and rationalization. The first one I have used is
denial. This is a mechanism that I seem to find myself using very often in my life. According to Freud
in Theories of Personality by Schultz, denial is a defense mechanism that involves denying the
existence of an external threat or traumatic event. (Schultz 50) An example of myself using the denial
mechanism is a traumatic event that I remember very clearly. It was December 7th, 2016 around 8:00
pm, I was sitting in my living room watching television with my boyfriend. I just so happened to be
scrolling on Facebook on my phone when I saw all these strange posts on my cousins James s
Facebook wall. These posts were stating rest in peace and you will be missed. I immediately ran into
the other room and said mom what happened to James? My mother had no idea and both of us thought
these posts were some silly prank. I then texted James and laughed to myself saying this is a joke I
know its not real. A few

A Man with a Cornet Sword and Black and Blue Shield
Louis Satchelmouth Armstrong, an inventor of new style jazz and revolutionary artist noted as one of
the greatest men not only in the Jazz music development, but also what Duke Ellington called as a
truly god and original man. (DeVeaux, pp.140) Louis was known as the most notable colored skin
musician in 1920 s in North America due to his skill of modification in music. His contribution in Jazz
later on in his career was broader used as an effective advocate for racial tolerance and equality in the
USA and all over the world.
The innovations that makes him recognizable throughout the world can be formulized into five
significant instances: Introduction of blue notes, improvisation, scat singing, lots of repertory, and
swing. He revolutionized the blues music that was known to be more formal such as ragtime, military
band, and broadband onto something that more joyous and expressive. His invention is somehow
makes him success to spread Jazz projected the optimism and vitality of black American [movement]
(Von Eschen, pp.252) to a larger scale.
His signature of music uses New Orleans s style as a base, but he introduced blue scales and then
altered by an emotional performance that includes the sense of the song. That way, the audiences are
able to catch the message from the song he performed. Unlike the way Jazz it used to be, Armstrong

Feminist Perspective In Frankenstein
The feminine perception in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Mary Shelley in the book, Frankenstein
provides a space for exploring the feminine perspective, which is highlighted by the featured female
characters. In today s world gender, issue regarding women is just as important as the historical period
the book is written. This therefore makes the book a very suitable tool in displaying the important
roles women have in society and how far these roles have progressed in the modern world. Some
critics might consider that Mary Shelley limited the woman s story in the book because at the time it
was a male dominated industry. However, one would want to praise her for the courage she displayed
by writing on a controversial topic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

female fosters confidence and courage in women such as Safie who runs away from her father to look
for Felix and learns to read and write (Shelley 358). This shows that every individual in society

Strategic Memo for Taco Bell Case 2-2 Essay

Backround: Taco Bell is a quick service restaurant concept and operates in a very competitive climate.
Was founded in 1962 by Glen Bell. Kraft Foods Inc., is the largest food and beverage company in
North America and the second largest in the world. Was founded in 1903 by James L. Kraft. On
August 1, 1996, Taco Bell and Kraft announced the formation of a license agreement for Kraft to

Second, should Taco Bell continue to use approved genetically modified substances in its food? Third,
which steps should Taco Bell take in order to communicate with Kraft? Fourth, what brand damage
has been caused, if any? And how can it be mitigated? Fifth, should Taco Bell contact media outlets
regarding this issue or allow Kraft to take the lead given that it manufactured the corn shells?
Taco Bell branding may be damaged since nongovernmental organizations found «Cry9c» protein in
Taco Bell branded products sold in grocery stores nationwide. Despite this, Taco Bell does not have
any relationship to the production of these shells from genetically modified corn; these taco s are
distributed by Kraft Food Inc., who has the right to use the Taco Bell trade name. Taco Bell, in order
to prevent a decrease in demand for their products and retain customers, should assertively save their
brand. Taco Bell should immediately contact Kraft to discuss the issue both companies are involved in
and figure out what is the best strategy to address for each company. To ensure that Kraft manages the
situation appropriately, the Marketing department of Taco Bell should call in to Kraft on a daily basis
to see the process of taco shells removal from the market. Moreover, Taco Bell should follow the
updated news from the media about

  • 2. Costco mini case study Case 2 questions Costco 1. What is Costco s business model? Is the company s business model appealing? Why or why not? Generating high sales volume and rapid inventory turnover by offering fee paying members low prices on nationally branded and private label products. Yes, it is appealing because the fees paid by members allowed for sufficient supplemental revenues while the turnover rates allowed Costco to receive cash for inventory before it had to pay many of its merchandise vendors. 2. What are the chief elements of Costco s strategy? How good is the strategy? Pricing, product selection, treasure hunt merchandising, low cost emphasis, and growth are the chief elements of Costco s strategy. It is a very good strategy because ... Some of the numbers do not look good to the traditional investor, but that is because Costco is not a traditional company. The current ratio shows that Costco can meet all current liabilities, while liquidity is also high (which means the company can quickly convert assets into cash). Profit is also constantly increased by not having to store inventory. 7. Based on the data in case Exhibits 1, 5, and 6, is Costco s financial performance superior to that at Sam s Club and BJ s Wholesale? Costco is turning in much higher numbers for total revenue than BJ s and higher sales than Sam s. Costco holds 57 percent of the market share while BJ s has 8 and Sam s has 35 percent. 8. How well is Costco performing from a strategic perspective? Does Costco enjoy a competitive advantage over Sam s Club? Over BJ s Wholesale? If so, what is the nature of its competitive advantage? Does Costco have a winning strategy? Why or why not? They are performing very well from a strategic perspective. No, Costco does not enjoy a clear competitive advantage over Sam s. It does however enjoy a competitive advantage over BJ s. the nature of this competitive advantage includes the fact that BJ s has too many products, which makes rapid turnover harder to achieve. I think that Costco has a winning strategy because they are selective with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Political Elites And Non Elites Among Nations Many consider political elites to be the upper echelon of society and of our generation. Specifically, political elites in many countries around the world, regardless of the type of government they possess, have the influence, wealth, clout, and savvy to determine the outcome of elections in politics as well as impact the lives of the general population, given their respective countries. Similar to the concept of Communism, the select few comprised of the elite group in certain countries make the majority of the decisions with no consequences or repercussions; regardless of how right or wrong that decision may be. The separation of elites and non elites among nations is extremely staggering mainly due to the fact that: the distribution of political power is skewed, leaders and elites are conscious of what they possess politically, they are coherent within the realm of politics (i.e. economic status, defense spending, campaign funding), conspire with one another when decision making, and they answer to no one higher than them because of their status. Two primary examples of countries with political elites present are China and Lebanon. Both countries, although they may not solely advocate such status, tie in political elites with their respective forms of government (Communism for China) and forms of religion (Confessionalism for Lebanon). Moreover, although both countries possess the capacity and discipline to survive and thrive without the presence of political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The case that I want to make is that babyhood is much more important to our lives than many people realise. • 5. Rienhard Heydrich s Death During The Holocaust The Holocaust was a dark time in humanity s history; a time that should be looked back on in shame. People lost their compassion and empathy towards one another. These emotions are essential in keeping peace and harmony throughout the world, and give mankind a natural kindheartedness towards one another. Having the innate sense to feel for one another and understand the trials and tribulations others go through is what truly makes us human. This is what was lost during the Holocaust. The inherent good that humans are born with, was taken away by Adolf Hitler and his Third Reich. It led to the deaths of entire cultures and millions of innocent peoples lives were changed for the worse. However, the Nazis did not carry out the mass killings of ... According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Heydrich died in June 1942 from injuries sustained during an assassination attempt by Czech partisans (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Heydrich was highly regarded by his superiors. Hitler even stated that Heydrich was one of the best National Socialists, one of the staunchest defenders of the concept of the German Reich and one of the greatest opponents of all enemies of this Reich (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Before his death, he was tasked with helping structure the Final Solution. Himmler and Hitler sent him to represent them in the Wannsee Conference in January 20, 1942, to discuss to the German offices the solution to the Jewish question (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Judging by Hitler s words and Heydrich s high ranking in the Nazi government, Heydrich was very well respected by Himmler and was his right hand man. And when Heydrich died in 1942 Himmler was very hurt by it and wanted to carry on his legacy. This is what triggered Himmler to start the Final Solution. So he commenced Operation Rienhard, which was named in honor of Heydrich. Operation Rienhard was started in the autumn of 1941 (but later renamed in honor of Heydrich) and marked the start of the Final Solution as history knows it today (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Its goal was to resettle (i.e., to kill) the Polish Jews, (2) to exploit the skilled or manual labor of some Polish Jews before killing them, (3) to secure the personal property of the Jews (clothing, currency, jewelry, and other possessions), and (4) to identify and secure alleged hidden and immovable assets such as factories, apartments, and land (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). • 7. Brief Encounter Essay Is Brief Encounter best understood as a sober realist drama or as an imaginary love affair? Brief Encounter (1945), according to Dyer Richard s words (1993, p.9), is a lovely film , but also pretty much a good one too . It indicates that this film conveys many symbolic meanings, such as how people struggle in forbidden love, but represents the reality as well, like women are vulnerable in a relationship. In this essay, it will be claimed from three aspects to prove the film is best understood as a sober realist drama. The first is about social realism, including pre war nostalgia and low social position of women. Then it moves to the storyline, in order to show the logic of the narrative structure of this film. While Stravinsky is not mostly known for his piano pieces, they are my favorite of his works. Stravinsky s Piano Sonata, has three movements. The first movement is quarter note equals 112, the second is adagietto and the third is quarter note equals 112 as well. Circular Reasoning/Beg the Question Begging the question is when one supports a claim by using its premise or another claim as proof. An example would be, Tabbies are cats because it is stylish like a cat. This is incorrect because it uses the claim that cats are stylish as proof that tabbies are cats. The fallacy would be fixed by supporting the claim that is being used as proof. A closely related fallacy would be the circular reasoning fallacy. An example of that would be, Tabbies are cats because it is a felis catus. • 10. A Palace Thief Analysis In A Palace Thief by Ethan Canin, Mr. Hundert is a teacher who, while good at heart, makes unethical decisions in times of duress. While others may argue that he also make ethical decisions, these ideas are quickly depressed with solid evidence. Appearing throughout the story are examples of this behavior, and even though this story spans over many decades, these decisions are spread evenly in the story. Certain variables such as his place of work may cause these actions. Mr. Hundert educates students in a school that is located in the outermost part of Washington DC. This school is limited to boys and provides housing to said boys. Due to its location, many students are children of people who are currently in office. During the school year, a new, distinct student arrives. This student, named Sedgewick Bell, is the son of a senator. This child does not lack any confidence in his actions, and this trait gets him into trouble. This behavior prompts Mr. Hundert to call the senator s office and the man, ... agreed to meet me one afternoon the following week. (pg. 161) Most if not all teachers have not even thought about doing this type of thing. In a majority of schools around the country today and within the last decade have invited parents into the school to talk with teachers; the teachers do not organize a meeting at the home or office of a parent. Mr. Hundert has voluntarily agreed to fight the battle in the senator s territory, giving up all previously owned authority. While others may contradict this concept, they would be incorrect. They may argue that this is not a very important decision as it may be minor. This would not be correct as this leads to the senator showing evidence that he believes that he is higher than Mr. Hundert. This is demonstrated by the conversation with the senator. Thus, this conversation demonstrates that authority has been transferred from Mr. Hundert to Senator Bell. While this conversation is occurring between the senator and the teacher, an offer is made. The senator acknowledges that the teacher is indeed a history buff . With this knowledge, he offers an old revolver that the senator just received. • 11. Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity. This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions, it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality. However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her mother. This ... • 13. Pros And Cons Of 3 Day Week Don t you just love three day weekends? Getting more time off from school and having more time to spend with friends and family. Studies have shown that four day weeks can improve the work environment, from helping save money, to people getting better health. Although some people may say that it is taking time away from learning, work, and other things, the pros are much greater than the cons; therefore, every week should be a three day weekend. One reason why we should have 3 day weekends every weekend is because it can save money. With four days, the work environment will be cutting back on electricity. For example, lights, heating, cooling, etc. Furthermore, with a four day school week, studies found that attendance went up for both students and teachers. Now schools are only spending one third of what they were on substitute teachers. Also since 2007, the number of school districts in colorado that chose to adopt a four day school week to save money rose by 30 percent! In the next 10 years, we may save up to 60 percent of our money. Finally, with less days of the week, we won t have to pay for food for lunch, buses to get kids to get and from school, and clean drinking water for the kids to stay hydrated. Another reason why switching to a 4 day week is because it improves academic and morale performances. According to a paper, a fourth grade math scores went up over the course of a 4 day school week. Furthermore, FASB wish to produce a common standard on lease accounting to have higher level of transparency and comparability to financial statements and to improve on the understanding of financial reporting (Altamuro, 2005). The proposed new accounting standards treat all leases as capital leases. This will get rid of the difference between capital leases and operating leases (Nobes, 2004).FASB and IASB consider that when issuing a lease contract, a lessee has attained an asset through its right to use the asset and recognized a liability through its duty to pay rentals. Using the new standard, a lessee is required to record an asset on behalf of its right to use the leased item on an agreed term and a liability for its obligation to make pay rental fees. As for primary measurement, it was cautiously decided that the lessee would record the asset at cost, which would equal the present value of the lease payments discounted at the lessee s incremental borrowing rate. The obligation to make rent payments would be recorded at the present value of the lease payments, discounted at the lessee s incremental borrowing rate (Ochoa, 2011). After several meetings, the Boards decided to implement the performance obligation approach to lessor accounting where a lessor would identify an asset representing its right to receive rental payments and distinguish a liability representing its performance obligation under the lease (Elena et.al., 2009). The three Toy Story cinemas each have impactful lessons in them that are relatable to what we learn as leaders in Jr. Beta club. Each of the three movies have a significant lesson that you can assimilate into being a leader in Beta today and each of my three years of Beta have given me the same. You could say that our leadership skills were taken above and beyond! Whenever I think of the first Toy Story movie, I think of the lesson of accepting change and being a more accepting person overall. The second Toy Story movie, released in 1999, revealed the lesson of the importance of making new friends. Through the duration of this Disney sequel, you watch how Woody is taken on an adventure and meets three new friends: Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete. Out of these friends, Jessie and Bullseye were taken out of a bad situation and were put into a better place where they learned important lessons, like we do in Beta. Stinky Pete however, was unwilling to go and ended up in a worse situation than he was before. In my second year of being a member of Beta club, we were encouraged to go out, make new friends, and introduce more people to the life changing club that we are a part of. We did this in our school through advertisement of our club and talking to new people. We also were encouraged to talk to students in other county s during Kentucky State Beta Convention, to find new and more exciting ways to continue to improve our club and how to get new members in that process. When doing this, we made new friends and lead students in the club, however there were always those who just did not want to be a part of the club and were unwilling to change to make their life better in the future. In this case, the bank did what it was supposed to do. The court held that a corporate resolution given to the bank and a signature card gave the officer authority to endorse checks for deposit to the account, and to draft checks from the account, so the bank was not liable for conversion. These documents were unambiguous. The resolution and signature card clearly let the officer act for the company regarding the account, including withdrawing money and endorsing checks for deposit. The fact that she was not specifically designated as an officer in the resolution was irrelevant. They inform, entertain, amuses and assist us every day with news articles, videos and funny blurbs. But technology s potentially harmful effect on young children has been a concern of adults for years. Whether brainwashing children, ruining their eyes or making them violent, the list of the damaging results of tech use grows longer by the minute. Parents feel the need to limit their child s exposure to the provocative screens before the damage is irreversible. The concern is completely valid; technology has the ability to entirely capture a child s attention in almost an unlimited fashion, there is endless amounts of information for a young mind to absorb. Access to this sea of knowledge could keep a child from experiencing more physical and interactive activities that build up other important skills and developments in children. But this sea of knowledge does in fact hold many benefits for kids. Much of the teachings that daycares and schools provide are on these devices and early access could help put a kid ahead of the pack. In addition, because of the tremendous impact of technology and its involvement with humans, kids who learn to use phones and tablets early will be more exposed and adjusted to an everchanging world. Django Reinhardt was born into the lifestyle of his gypsy parents on January 24th, 1910 in a village of Belgium known as Liberchies. Django, Romani for I awake, has inspired and astonished various generations of musicians and lovers of jazz with his remarkable control of the guitar and the story of his upbringing. At just the age of eight, his parents moved near the stretch of barricades that encompassed the streets of old Paris. Up until he was about twenty years old, he had never really set down roots somewhere, worn a suit, or lived in a real house. These French Gypsies, also known as Manouches, were living in a world of their own, primitive in their way of thinking and skeptical of popular science. Django was raised in a lifestyle ... However, his right leg was paralyzed and two of his fingers on his left hand were badly burned. Doctors thought that he would never make music again and planned to amputate one of his legs but he refused. He soon moved to a nursing home where he was immobilized for eighteen months, but the care helped him enough to save his leg. Throughout this time, he received another guitar and with great perseverance he produced a brand new method of playing that was modeled around the two fingers on his left hand that had the ability to move. The two fingers that were critically burned were curled towards the palm permanently due to the tendons diminishing from the heat of the fire. He could utilize them on the first two strings of the guitar for chords and octaves, but complete use of these fingers was unattainable. This was no detriment to his talent and all of his soloing and improvisation was done with his index and middle fingers, a true accomplishment. The few film clips that are available of Reinhardt show his musical ability to be natural and meticulous, nearly challenging belief. Django was greatly inspired by jazz ... On the backs of critically panned singles CONFUSED! , Wedding Tux , and the perfectly named Judgmental Cunt , Cudi s latest record differs incredibly from both Man On The Moons. This is not a hip hop album, first of all the entire hour long record is guitars and bass, taking significant inspiration from angsty 90s alt rock. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this, and Cudi is at least trying to stretch some boundaries. However, he utterly misses the mark. Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven is an utter failure, a nastily boring album that fails to address any of the flaws in Cudi s approach to rock songwriting. It can be hard to cross over genres, just as it is hard to cross over art forms. We have all heard of a top prospect being compared to one of the greatest athletes of all time. There are times that these prospects turn out to be really good, but unfortunately there are times that we have witnessed a prospect become a bust. The one thing missing from that I believe should be added to that list is the ability to have an instinctive mind. A perfect baseball player needs to have dedication for the game, good eyesight, and be in great physical shape. Many of the latest baseball prospects that have made it to the big leads have become some of the best baseball players around. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also can play almost any position and that requires a lot of dedication and is extremely great shape for being at the age of 35. The next player is Mike Trout who can react to a fly ball like a cheetah chasing its prey. He has incredible power and speed for his size compared to a lot of the other great baseball players which in large part is due to the fact that he is in incredible shape. Finally, Javier Baez is always full of energy and can make some of the most impossible defensive plays. For example, he has the quickest hands in the game of baseball and can take a close tag play and tag the guy out by a mile. His teammate David Ross, who has been around for a very long time, stated I played with Gold Glovers. Uncertainty Reduction Theory Jonathan Quinones Literature Review Paper Comm 306 Uncertainty Reduction Theory Uncertainty is an unpleasant feeling and because of this feeling, people are motivated to reduce this uncertainty by means of communication. Uncertainty reduction theory (URT) was developed to describe the interrelationships in any type of communication exchange using seven factors: verbal communication, nonverbal expressiveness, information seeking behavior, intimacy, reciprocity, similarity, and liking (Berger Calabrese, 1975). During the beginning stage information about ones sex, age, socio economic status, along with other demographic information can be obtained. Uncertainty reduction within an instructional context is something that as not been researched extensively, and because teacher student relations is considered to be a type of interpersonal relationship, it seems warranted that a study in terms of proactive attributions and uncertainty in their relationship be conducted. Communication satisfaction is an affective response to the accomplishment of communication goals and expectations, and results when positive expectations are fulfilled, yet is dependent on whatever expectations individuals have about an interaction (Goodboy Myers, 2007). With the use of certain axioms in URT such as similarity/homophily, the sharing of attitudes, beliefs, background, demographics, and physical attributes. The 7th axiom in URT which is Liking, one of the most common desires of individuals is the need to be liked. Berger and Calabrese (1975) propose: increases in uncertainty level produce decreases in liking; decreases in uncertainty level produce increases in liking . The method of this experiment included 147 participants who were undergraduate students both men and women ranging from ages 18 to 23. Participants completed a survey assessing their attributional confidence of their instructor from a previous class they attended, using an Attributional Confidence Scale, Interpersonal communication Satisfaction Inventory, Perceived Homophily Measure, and the ... You always do your best to make the right ones, and you would do your best to learn from the wrong ones. Before Jonas became the receiver, he thought that everything was alright. But once he became the receiver and received memories, the truths, lies, and new things started to appear. Jonas and the Giver made a plan since Jonas was so angry that the community doesn t know everything. The plan was to have Jonas find Elsewhere so that he could disperse his memories and the Giver would help the community take in the pain from the memories. Jonas took Gabriel to escape since he didn t want him to pass away. We use these mechanisms daily but probably do not even realize we do. These defense mechanisms include repression, denial, reaction, projection, regression, rationalization, displacement, and sublimation. I have interviewed my boyfriend and along with myself to identify some of these defense mechanisms. The four different defense mechanisms I have used in my life is denial, regression, displacement, and rationalization. The first one I have used is denial. This is a mechanism that I seem to find myself using very often in my life. According to Freud in Theories of Personality by Schultz, denial is a defense mechanism that involves denying the existence of an external threat or traumatic event. (Schultz 50) An example of myself using the denial mechanism is a traumatic event that I remember very clearly.
