Writing Assessment Instructions
This assignment is designed to develop critical thinking, written and visual communication, and empirical and quantitative, and social responsibility skills. The primary focus will be to assess social responsibility. A component of social responsibility is the ability to demonstrate intercultural competence, which is the ability to identify, compare and contrast one’s own cultural patterns with others; understand diverse cultures and effectively communicate in a variety of cultural contexts.
This assignment will require students to analyze and interpret a primary or secondary document that includes quantitative data (e.g. graphs or other visual illustrations) using sociological terminology in an essay format. The following writing assignment is meant to help you use the concepts you have learned in this class to explore and analyze an important current issue in our society. As you write your paper, focus your attention on how you as an individual can respond to this current issue using the sociological imagination.
After reading the assigned article, you will write an essay, 250 words minimum; using Standard English and submit electronically on eCampus. The minimum requirements for this assignment are to:
1. Draw three main conclusions from the article;
2. Describe two important elements of data presented on the charts/graph and briefly interpret each data element;
3. Describe the ways in which this can be defined as a personal trouble or social issue. Be sure to cite specific evidence from the article to support your position (i.e. be sure to include other cultural perspectives in addition to your own);
4. Explore how the social phenomena discussed in the article may or may not contribute to human suffering and or social disorganization (i.e. be sure to include other cultural perspectives in addition to your own);
5. Based on your exploration on prompts numbers 1-4 make three recommendations including, but not limited to:
5. A need for future research on this social phenomenon,
5. The development of new laws or public policies to address this issue

For the first part of your final project, the critical analysis por.docxdenneymargareta
For the first part of your final project, the critical analysis portfolio, you will select an issue or event in diversity and critically analyze it through the
four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. By viewing the issue/event through these lenses, you will
gain insight into how the intersectional nature of diversity affects society, as well as both your own individual framework of perception and the choices, attitudes,
and behaviors of others in the world around you.
Prompt: First, review the module resources you have so far encountered, as well as your work in Module One. In addition, it is suggested that you visit the IDS
400 LibGuide for guidance on how to select a topic. Select one issue/event in diversity and write a paper that addresses how this issue/event fits into the
framework of diversity, and then addresses how each lens influences perceptions and attitudes toward the issue/event, diversity, and society. The paper should
outline each lens’s impact and framing of the issue/event. Be sure to provide a working thesis statement and clear definitions for your key terms.
Specifically, you must address the critical elements listed below.
I. Introduction: You will compile a series of critical analyses of a single issue/event in diversity through the four general education lenses: history,
humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences.
A. Topic: Using the four lenses, explain how an issue/event within diversity has or has not influenced modern society.
II. Lens Connections: In this section of your assignment, you will describe the connections between your issue/event and each of the four general education
lenses.
A. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of history for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence from theory
and research to support your analysis.
B. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the humanities for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence from
theory and research to support your analysis.
C. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the natural sciences for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence
from theory and research to support your analysis.
D. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the social sciences for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence
from theory and research to support your analysis.Be sure to begin the research process early and use evidence from your research to support your responses. Refer to course resources, the LibGuide for
this class, and any other pertinent resources to support your responses. Although at least two sources are required for each lens, note that you may use
the same source for more than one lens if applicable. Relevant current news sources may be used with instructor approva.

SOC 320 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a position paper to illustrate the position of a social advocacy group on a gender-related issue. You will assume
the role of a researcher for a social advocacy group that focuses on issues related to gender. You will assume that your manager has tasked you with writing a
position paper that clearly articulates the group’s stance on a given gender-related issue in an attempt to justify the ultimate goal of the social advocacy group.
You will select an issue from the options provided or submit your own issue for instructor approval. You will then analyze the issue through the incorporation of
evidence and the application of sociological theory.
You are encouraged to choose your own topic to address in the position paper and will be guided through this process in the early modules of the course. Some
gender-related issues to you might consider focusing on in this project include the following:
• Fraternity hazing
• Equal pay for women
• Allowing children to transition to their self-identified gender
• Adoption rights for same-sex couples *******************
• Gender-neutral bathrooms in the workplace
The project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to provide you opportunities to conduct research and
work on elements of your paper. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven.
In the position paper, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
• Analyze views of gender from a historical perspective for their impact on today’s societies and individuals
• Challenge current stereotypes of various gender expressions using evidence from observations and other resources
• Determine how reactions to expressions of gender and gender identity have evolved over time supported by sociological theory
• Communicate results of analyses on gender issues adhering to ethical requirements and other best practices regarding sociological research
2
Prompt
For your position paper, you will represent the position of your social advocacy group on a specific issue related to gender and support that position through the
application of sociological theory and evidence. Your position will challenge preconceived notions around this issue by investigating its history and how it has
evolved over time. The goal of this paper is to promote awareness around your chosen issue and encourage support for your social advocacy group.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Introduction: In this section, you will introduce your audience to the gender issue you have chosen. You will develop a statement that establishes your
position on your chosen issue. Be sure to employ appropriate ethical considerations and best practice.

This document provides more information about the portfolio project and guidelines to complete each
content area to the best of your ability. Use the information here and contained in the syllabus to answer
initial questions you may have. And don’t forget to include citations for every piece of text you reference
or use to help you formulate your own work. You can either include a short works cited/bibliography at the
end of each content area, or one large works cited/bibliography encompassing all content areas. Any style
is fine so long as it is consistent.
Meeting
You need to schedule a 30-minute meeting with me during the term. You should bring two content areas of
your choosing with you for review. These need to be full first drafts, not merely ideas or notes. I will read
as much as time permits to provide you feedback on how to improve these pieces of writing and approach
the remaining content areas. I will also give you a sense of where you stand with your APC grade.
Fallacies
For the fallacies content area, you should find examples of fallacies committed in texts or videos.* If all
else fails, create a dialogue between different persons that represents fallacious arguments you have heard
in the past or in which you were personally involved. After providing the fallacy, you should identify the
fallacy and then explain how this text, video, or dialogue commits this fallacy.
Students usually complete this section in one of three ways. One option is to provide a number of
examples with brief explanations (roughly 5-8 fallacies). The second option discusses fewer fallacies in
more depth (roughly 2-3 fallacies). Finally, other students take up some issue of the day and locate a
number of fallacies in arguments surrounding that issue. This third option usually involves discussing
fewer fallacies in depth as well, thereby overlapping with the second option.
Morals and Markets
While some people attempt to respond to the overall claims of Sandel’s book – and this is all well and good
– I encourage everyone to focus on at least two concrete cases or scenarios he raises. This will allow you
to provide a more in-depth response or investigate a case even further. Some people also use this as an
opportunity to perform light research in order to substantiate or criticize various points in the book. Feel
free to bring in other cases that display a dilemma of norms in a market-driven culture.
* You should not simply repeat fallacies from our textbook, another logic textbook, or some website
dedicated to explaining fallacies. There would be no point to such an exercise. The purpose is to display
that you can apply the concept of a fallacy to real-world cases, not ones already identified by others.

Financial Problem
1. Define the financial problem
It is imperative to understand the financial problem fully before jumping into a solution. Some financial problems like thinking about what to eat for breakfast, whether to take a train or drive to work and what to wear to work appear to be so simple. Moreover, the solutions to such kind of financial problems appear to have less impact on our life. If a person is facing a financial problem, he or she can apply the kipling method to define the financial problems. According to the kipling method of defining the financial problem, the problem statement of the problem should be clear. The problem state can be clear only if the six components of the kipling method. The six components include: “What is the problem?”, “Why is fixing the problem critical?”, “When did the problem arise?”, “How did the problem happen?” “Where is the problem occurring?”, “Who will the problem affect?”.
2. Develop an alternative solution to the financial problem
One of the common barriers to solving a financial problem is the relying on the previous experiences that appear to be similar to our current financial state. Perhaps, we are the creators of our poor financial habits and sometimes our decisions and activities are true reflections of our history and stereotypes. Therefore, it is imperative to learn the techniques of developing multiple alternative solutions to our financial problems. During the stage of developing the multiple solutions, the main objective is to create many solutions without considering their practicality or effectiveness. Some of the useful techniques that can be used to develop the alternative solution from the multiple possible solutions that were created include analogies, means-ends analysis, brainstorming, and divide and conquer.
3. Selection of the optimum solution to the financial problem
By selecting the optimum solution to the financial problem, it implies that the solutions that appear to be ineffective will be obviously eliminated. Before elimination, it is appropriate to develop the method for evaluation. Many factors are considered during the evaluation process. Such factors include efficacy, practicality, timelessness, expense, manageability, and risk.
4. After selecting the optimum solution to the financial problem, it is appropriate to implement the solution.
Once the best solution to the financial problem has been selected, it is high time to start taking action. For example, if a person decided to live on cash for a given period then it is high time to implement that approach. Apart from implementing the solution, it is prudent to recognize that some obstacles or problems might arise from the solution. Therefore, it will be ...

What Can One Person Do Secondary Research Project Y.docxphilipnelson29183
What Can One Person Do?
Secondary Research Project
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a shareable educational
resource about a particular structural inequality. In it, you will 1) describe the structural
inequality and 2) recommend at least 1 specific action people can take to help disrupt,
dismantle, or otherwise work against that structure. There are 3 major components to this
project: the resource itself, a 2-3 page reflection piece, and a Works Cited. Instructions
for each can be found below.
In doing this assignment, you’ll get the chance to:
• Synthesize information and ideas you’ve come across in the
readings, conversations, and assignments.
• Reflect on how education can be a crucial component of being an
active, engaged member of your community and of society as a
whole.
• Produce a concrete resource that you can put out into the world
about your topic.
Educational Resource Instructions
For the resource itself, I’m giving you a fair amount of freedom. You have to create an
educational resource, but the exact form it takes is really up to you. Some options people
have done in the past:
• Write an editorial/article about your topic that could be submitted
to a newspaper or other periodical. (You don’t have to actually
submit it.)
• Create a brochure about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Create a short zine about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Produce a short podcast or video about your topic.
• Create a blog post (with links for more info) about your topic.
• Create a website about your topic.
• Create an educational board game or video game about your topic.
• Something else that you come up with (and get approved by me)
While you have a lot of freedom for the form of the project, there are certain criteria that
all projects must meet. To get full credit your resource must:
• Be targeted towards a particular audience (likely a particular
group of stakeholders for the issue)—Think about whom you want
to reach. Who is likely to care about the issue if they learned about
it? Who might be willing and able to take action?
o Your target audience should influence the form and
language of the project. For example, you probably
wouldn’t create a video game if your target audience is
Idaho congresspeople (or maybe you would?).
• Contain the following components
1. A short background on the situation. Explain what is going
on, how it’s unequal, and why we should care about it.
2. A description of the communities that are most impacted by
the issue and how they are impacted. This is related to the
previous component; one way to make people care about an
issue is to show them the harm it is causing to a particular
group of people.
3. A description of at least 1 important cultural story or belief
that helps sustain the conditions of inequality. As Schwalbe
argues in Ch. 4—Arresting the Imagination, cul.
SOC 213 Final Project Part I Guidelines and Rubric Ov.docxwhitneyleman54422
SOC 213 Final Project Part I Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The first part (Part I) of the final project for this course is preparing for the letter of intent.
The field of sociology presents a unique perspective to viewing the world’s social problems. Social problems tend to be viewed solely as individual constructs and
responsibilities, but sociologists take a deeper dive into the complex set of variables driving the development of these problems using various theoretical
perspectives. As these problems surface in individual lives, the workplace, and communities, a sociological perspective is valuable for providing a framework for
deeper investigation of variables and limiting personal biases when analyzing problems.
In this project, you will play the part of a sociologist who has been requested by your national community to craft a letter of intent to the potential funder, the
Department of Health and Human Services. The project will be divided into two parts. In the first part, you will prepare to write the letter of intent by conducting
research on the social problem and thinking about how to limit your personal biases when later analyzing the social issue. In the second part of the project, the
letter of intent, you will analyze the problem from a sociological perspective, outlining the influential variables and the local and global impacts of the problem,
and finally suggest a potential solution.
This project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final
submissions. The Part I milestones will be submitted in Modules Two and Three. The final submission for Part I is due in Module Five.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
Analyze contemporary social problems on local and global scales by applying key theoretical perspectives
Analyze social variables and determinants for their influence in the development of contemporary social problems on a local and global scale
Suggest potential solutions that are aligned with best practices for addressing the negative impacts of social issues
Illustrate how the use of sociological theory limits personal and societal biases in analyzing social problems
Part I
Before you can write the letter of intent, you must first identify social variables influencing the problem and previously attempted solutions. Also, before you can
analyze the problem, you must first think about your biases and how you can limit these biases using sociological theory when analyzing the social issue.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Introduction: Explain the contemporary social problem that you selected, and explain why you chose this specific social problem.
II. Research: In order to further understand the social problem, you will conduct some research on its influences, impacts,.
Analyze your issueevent through the lens of history, and address th.docxamrit47
Analyze your issue/event through the lens of history, and address the following:
•How does this issue/event interact with the history lens and impact social issues?
• In what ways does the history lens help articulate a deeper understanding of the global issue(s) that inform your issue/event?
Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the humanities by exploring the following questions:
•How is this issue/event portrayed creatively in global society? What is the message or commentary of this representation?
• How does this representation interact with you in your personal and professional lives?
Note: You are completing two separate analyses: one from the history and one from the humanities. You must submit two papers in a single Word document.
The following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Lens Analysis: In this section of your assignment, you will analyze your issue/event through two of the four general education lenses.
A. Analyze your artifact through the lens of the history for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence from research to support
your analysis.
B. Analyze your artifact through the lens of humanities for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence and research to support
your analysis.
Assignment should be submitted as two papers in a single Word document. The entire submission should be 2–4 pages in length, double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins.

~ 1a) Social Inequality
The Week 4 Instructor Question meets the following course objectives:
•Apply a sociological perspective to the social world
•Analyze contemporary social issues using the sociological imagination and use sociological theories and concepts to analyze everyday life.
•Discuss global stratification and explain social class and the impact of stratification in the United States.
•Describe sex and gender, race and ethnicity, and the elderly in the United States as well as how inequality, prejudice, and discrimination impacts certain groups of people in society
•Develop written communication skills and critical thinking skills.
•Apply American Psychological Association formatting and citation style when completing course assignments.
Initial forum postings should be a minimum of 250 words. Each student must also respond to a minimum of 1 fellow students' postings; each response must be at least 100 words in length.
Choose ONE of the following questions:
1. How is power wielded in the social world? Do agree more with functionalist or conflict theorists regarding the concept of power in a democracy? Be sure to describe both the functionalist and conflict perspectives on power in society and provide evidence or examples to support your position.
2. Describe the functionalist view of social stratification, and the conflict theory's view of social stratification. Then take a pro or con position on each of the following three points: first, social stratification is necessary for societies to exist and prosper; second, the United States functions, overall, as a meritocracy; and third, human beings-driven as they are by human nature-are incapable of ever creating and/or living in a classless society. Provide detail about 'why' you are taking the pro or con position for each point.
3. Will there ever be complete equality between males and females in the United States? Should there be? What would constitute complete equality? Do you think the women's movement is stronger or weaker today than it was in the 1970s? In what ways? In challenging gender stratification, do you think that feminists sometimes over-exaggerate the problem of sexual inequality in the United States? If so, how? The text offers a few explanations for the origins of patriarchy while ignoring religion. Given that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all patriarchal religions, do you think that the feminist movement is an attack against religion? Finally, what is a feminist? Are you a feminist? If so, why? If not, why? Be sure to use examples from the text in your discussion.
~1b) Social Inequality
The Week 4 WSMP meets the following course objectives:
•Apply a sociological perspective to the social world
•Analyze contemporary social issues using the sociological imagination and use sociological theories and concepts to analyze everyday life.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

3. Historical Effects of the Media
Some points to Consider (this list is not exhaustive):
• Highlight the Hypodermic Needle Theory and its shortcomings in
seeing audiences as passive
• Discuss the opposition of passive, the Active audiences (possible

• Consider referring to the Two Step Flow theory (passive)
• Uses and Gratifications Theory – shift of focus from what the
media does to what people do with the media
• Cultural Effects Theory – Gerbner and effects of TV violence
Ensure that you comment on the effects the media has on
audiences (and the theory that has been linked to this over time)
