The FTP Connector allows Mule applications to exchange files with an external FTP server by configuring the FTP connector as either an inbound or outbound endpoint. As an inbound endpoint, the FTP connector can poll a remote FTP server directory and retrieve files as Mule messages. As an outbound endpoint, messages can be uploaded as files to a remote FTP server directory. The default behavior is to delete files after retrieval, but the connector can also be configured to move files to a backup directory instead of deleting them.

The FTP Connector implements a file transport channel so that your Mule application
can exchange files with an external FTP server.You can configure FTP as an inbound
endpoint (which receives files) or outbound endpoint (which writes files to the FTP
server).
The FTP transport allows integration of the File Transfer Protocol into Mule. Mule can
poll a remote FTP server directory, retrieve files. and process them as Mule messages.
Messages can also be uploaded as files to a directory on a remote FTP server.
Default behavior of the inbound FTP connector is it will pick the file and delete from
source folder.

Drag and Drop FTP connector to canvas and place it at message source.
Configure the FTP Connector and provide the information like host, port, path,
username and password.

Field Description
Display Name Unique name for FTP Connector in your application.
Host By default, it is localhost. Provide fully qualified name or
IP address of server.
Port The port that connects to host server. e.g. 21
Path It is path of folder on host server from where you need to
read a file.
User Username to connect FTP server.
Password Password to connect FTP server
Transfer Mode It can be Binaryor ASCII. By default, it is Binary

5. FTP ConnectorWith Mule ESB
As default behavior of FTP connector is to read the file and delete from FTP server.
There is option available with FTP connector instead of deleting the file you can move
file to some backup folder on FTP server.
Click on plus button under connector configuration and it will open new dialog
window. Now navigate to Advanced tab.

Select radio buttonConfigure a folder to move the files and configure Move to
Directory and File name pattern.

Move to Directory Provide the remote path where you need to move the file for backup.
e.g. /backup/
File name pattern Provide MEL expression or pattern to name the file while moving to backup.
e.g. #[message.inboundProperties.originalFileName].backup

8. FTP Connector as Outbound
The FTP connector can be configured as Outbound to send file to destination. For FTP
connector to be work asOutbound, place FTP connector in message processor region
of Mule flow.
