In the content of the period 1485 1587, to what extent did the Northern Rebellion of 1569 represent a
significant threat to the security of the Tudor State?
Rebellions caused a serious threat to monarchs; and as a result of the War of The Roses and Henry VII
s usurpation in 1485, the Tudor Dynasty had effectively been founded on Rebellion so it may be
possible to assume that the Tudor Dynasty could be removed by rebellion. The Tudor period can be
seen as a time of unrest as each Tudor monarch had at least one rebellion during their reign. The
majority of the Tudor rebellions were a significant threat as they attacked the authority of the Crown;
suggesting a period of instability throughout the 100 years as each rebellion was a constant ... Show

This to an extent is true as the Treason Act and Henry s Royal Supremacy were all seen as clear
examples of Cromwell s policies. Moreover, Henry VIII had said like traitors and rebels have
attempted, and not like true subjects, as ye name yourselves which illustrates that Henry VIII felt they
were a threat as they were questioning his judgement as king. As well as this, the Yorkshire rebellion
had political connotations as there was resentment in Yorkshire of a Lancastrian monarch when a
Yorkist has been overthrown. Moreover, the revolt involving Perkin Warbeck, had the support of
James IV and Charles VIII as well as the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilan, threatening Henry VII s
position as ruler as there was a possible danger than he may have been overthrown. However, the
support from these influential figures wasn t strong and Warbeck had little support south of the border.
In addition, the Wyatt s rebellion was also a political threat, questioning the security of the Tudor
State. This was due to the proposed marriage of Mary Queen of Scots to Philip of Spain. Nevertheless,
this revolt didn t have the support

The Opioids And Its Effects
Introduction
The opioids produce analgesic effects no matter is endogenous or synthetic, including morphine,
codeine and methadone. (3)Endogenous opioid peptides such as endorphins, enkephalins and
dynorphins activate opioid receptors including mu receptors (mainly), delta receptors, kappa receptors
and ORL1 receptors to produce different effects. One of the non analgesic effects is the disruption of
sleep wake behaviour by the opioids actions on the ventrolateral preoptic nucleus (VLPO). The
differences of the pharmacokinetic properties between the 3 opioids mentioned and the possible
mechanisms of sleep wake regulations will be discussed below.
Pharmacokinetics of the opioids
The opioids are divided into subgroups based on chemical structures. (1) Morphine and codeine are in
the group that has a 4, 5 epoxymorphinan ring in each of the opioids. (1)(Fig1) The free hydroxyl on
the benzene ring linked by 2C and 2N determines the opioid activity. (3) Codeine is produced by
substituting the hydroxyl group on the carbon 3 atom on the morphine while that hydroxyl group is
responsible for binding properties. Therefore codeine is less potent. (4) Methadone is one of the
diphenylheptylamines which is relatively lipophilic comparing to morphine and codeine. (5)
(Fig1)These opioids all interact with mu opioid receptors primarily but they differ in
pharmacokinetics. (1)
Administration
The majority of opioids can be taken by oral administration. (1) However the bioavailability of the

The European Community s Involvement in the Energy Sector
The European Union s total expenditures on research and development have grown rapidly since the
mid 1980s. For example, in the period between the EU s First Framework Programme for Research
and Technological Development (spanning the period 1984 1987) and the Fourth Framework
Programme (1994 1998), R D investments under the Framework Programme grew in real terms by
more than 120%. The budget for the Fifth Framework Programme (1998 2002) is projected to be
approximately $15 billion. R D investments in the health, biotechnology, information technology, and
transportation areas have grown most markedly in recent years. Energy R D constitutes a major, yet
declining, share of the total R D expenditures of the European Union (EU). Adoption in 1996 of a
Directive for the Internal Market for Electricity: The Directive marks the first major legislative step
toward the creation of an open and competitive European electricity market. Under this law, all
Member States were required to open at least 25.37% of their electricity markets to competition as of
February 1999. Under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, the European Union committed itself to an 8%
reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 2008 2012. Greenhouse gas emissions
reduction and climate change mitigation now occupy a central position in EU Energy policy. The
increase in funding for renewable energy R D in the Fourth Framework Programme aimed to propel
the growth of renewable energy in Europe and to spur European

Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing
Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing
Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing, a short story that has to do with the lack of interaction and
empathy between the baker, Ann and Howard, the finale where the baker is startled to find out about
the child s death, asks for mercy and presents them warm cinnamon rolls telling them that Eating is a
small, good thing in a time like this and they are comforted, reveals particular significance of the title
in terms of the story s theme. Also, Raymond Carver s Cathedral, a story that starts with an ignorant
and rude narrator whose wife has called a blind friend to spend the night at their home and according
to Carver, A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to, (38) has some ... Show

After the baker takes all the rage thrown on him by Ann, he in return begs for forgiveness and gives
the parents what they were lacking, that is food. The baker does all this even though he is alone and
virtually makes contact with anybody.
In Raymond s Cathedral, certain similarities can be drawn from the thematic content that is revealed in
both stories. In Cathedral, the theme is expansive, but the ones that are similar in both stories are
communication, and empathy.
The communication theme in this story is much more serious than the one in A Small Good Thing, the
reason being that the narrator has less or no communication whatsoever with his wife. This is vividly
shown in the story where the narrator says When the time rolled around, my wife went to the depot to
pick him up. With nothing to do but wait, I was having a drink and watching TV. (41) This deficiency
of intimacy, intercourse led the narrator to be ignorant but very thoughtful. However the narrator s
thoughtfulness did not lead him to understand that his lack of tolerance was much more serious than
he knew it was.
In A Small Good Thing, as mentioned earlier, after Howard returns home, the baker keeps on calling
him and telling him about the cake, but Howard tells him I don t know anything about a cake, Jesus
what are you talking about? Ann never tells Howard about the cake she ordered before Scott s
accident. Here the lack of communication theme is less serious

The Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles
1. Introduction
It is suggested that leadership is a kind of ability or activity which a leader could straight affect and
guide their followers to achieve certain objectives in the specific situation (John Calvin
Maxwell,2011). The shifting internal elements and increasing external competitions have posed
growing demanding to managers leadership approaches. However, managers are provided with
various personalities or perspectives, accordingly, managers are not accomplishing their aims by using
similar styles. The leadership style, according to Newstrom and Davis (1993), is the ways and
approaches of offering targets, fulfilling plans as well as inspiring subordinates. Based on the types of
individuals the leader works with and various personality traits hold by the leader, the leadership style
differs. There are several leadership styles suggested by different researchers such as autocratic,
democratic, laissez fair, transactional and transformational. Some of leadership styles are no longer
suit for current marketplaces especially for those organizations which want to attract talent person
from all over the world and exploit global markets. Therefore, this essay aims to focus on
transactional and transformational styles, then take Baidu and Google as examples to make a
comparison and contrast between these two styles as well as illustrate which one may generate better
outcomes than another.

The Effects Of Globalization
Globalization is the procedure in which individuals, thoughts and merchandise spread all through the
world, impelling more connection and joining between the world s societies, governments and
economies Globalization includes financial joining; the exchange of strategies over outskirts; the
transmission of learning; social steadiness; it is a worldwide procedure, an idea, a revolution and
establishment of the worldwide market free from socio political control. It is the procedure of world
shrinkage, of separations getting shorter, things drawing nearer. It relates to the expanding ease with

Root Rot Caused By M. Phaseolina
Root rot caused by M. phaseolina (a soil as well as seed borne fungus) is a devastating disease of
mungbean and causes serious yield losses. The present study has demonstrated that the fungus induced
severe root rot in mungbean cv. T 44 and exhibited significant decline in the plant growth and yield.
This has verified that the tested mungbean cv. T 44 was susceptible to the root rot fungus. Rotting of
tap root and presence of few lateral roots is the characteristic symptom of the disease. Because of few
lateral roots and root hairs, drying and withering of leaves occurs due to less water absorption. During
the initial stages of pathogenesis, the fungal hyphae penetrates the root epidermis which is restricted to
the intercellular spaces of the cortical tissues of the primary roots. Due to this, collapse of adjacent
cells occurs and heavily infected plantlets may die. Afterwards at the onset of flower, the mycelium
grow intracellularly through the xylem and plug the vessels [28, 29], produce toxins and several
enzymes [30, 31], and thereby disrupt host cells. Inoculation with M. phaseolina decreased the growth
and yield of mungbean by 32.1 45.5% and 36%, respectively.
Soil and seed borne nature of the pathogen creates problem for an effective management of the root
rot disease. Use of the chemicals is one of the best options for the management of plant diseases which
is quick as well as effective method. The present approach was to manage the root rot disease by using

It s a terrible, Joe; it ain t true... I don t know what possessed me, Joe... but I wish you hadn t taught
me to call knaves at cards jacks, and I wish my boots weren t so thick nor my hands so coarse
(Dickens 694). COMMENTS: Throughout this entire scene, Pip explains to Joe why he lied to Mrs.
Joe and Mr. Pumblechook. In this part, Pip feels terrible about his common life and wish he had a
greater one. This is a defining and moment in Pip s life because until now Pip thought his life would
amount to nothing. Then, Joe explains he is extraordinary and Pip believes it, and thrives to do better
in the next chapter. He stirred his rum and water pointedly at me, and he tasted his rum and water
pointedly at me not with a spoon that was brought to him, but with a file... I knew it was Joe s file
(Dickens 697). CONFUSING: During this part of the chapter, the stranger sits and drinks with Pip and
Joe. While this goes on the stranger pulls out the file Pip stole from Joe and gave to the convict. While
at first, this seems bold and unnerving. Then, it begins to stir up a few questions. Why did the stranger
have the file, when Pip gave the file to the convict he ran off a few minutes later to catch the second
convict. So this part was confusing, when did the first convict ever get the chance to talk to the
stranger, let alone give him Joe s stolen file. His head was all on one side, and one of his eyes was half

Evaluation Of Audit And Assurance Standards Board
Title
The title of the proposed research is as follows; A review of auditors approach to audit risk in the UK
Introduction
As defined by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) audit risk is The
risk that the auditor expresses an inappropriate audit opinion when the financial statements are
materially misstated (IAASB, 2009). The purpose of the auditors is to obtain reasonable assurance that
financial statements are prepared in accordance with an applicable financial framework, are free from
material misstatements and show a true and fair view of the company. This is to ensure shareholders
are able to make rational decisions regarding their investment through reliance on the financial
statements. The proposed research would provide a better insight into available rules and procedures
designed to aid auditors in the assessment of audit risk, but more importantly, examine their own
approaches. It would be interesting to see how companies use their own judgement to identify audit
risks, measure their significance and deal with the findings. Additionally, awareness of the process and
approaches used by auditors to identify audit risks would enable shareholders to raise their
understanding about the accuracy of an audit opinion and so the extent to which it can be relied on.

One of the key sources will be the information on audit risk, the procedures and processes provided on
the websites by some of the UK audit companies

Overfishing Is A Serious Problem
Overfishing is a serious problem that often gets overlooked. In the article by Udy Bell, called
Overfishing: A Threat to Marine Biology, Bell talks about how only 1 percent of the world s oceans
are marine protected areas (MPAs). MPAs not only help protect oceans by allowing habitats to recover
from damage caused by overfishing but also allow fish to safely reproduce. Due to fishing fish faster
then they can reproduce, many species of fish are going endangered or already endangered of being
extinct. Species like whales, dungongs, sea cows, codfish, jewfish, sharks, and other marine
vertebrates are examples of fish that are being overfished. Overfishing was addressed at the World
Summit in Johannesburg, Africa in 2002 (Bell 17). At the World Summit, many experts in the field of
overfishing agreed that the most effective way to battle overfishing is by creating and establishing
more MPAs around the world. Although overfishing is a serious problem, there are ways to solve the
problem like creating Marine Protected Areas. Gutierrez 2
Humans are the ones responsible for the damage caused to our oceans by overfishing. MPAs are
essential to preserve and protect the biological diversity of the oceans (Kechington, Ward, Hegerl 7).
In The Benefits of Marine Protected Areas, by Richard Kenchington, Trevor Ward, and Eddie Hegerl,
talk about why MPAs are crucial to the prevention of overfishing. In a Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) study, over 70% of fish

Cause Of Abusive Relationships
What causes people to be abusive in their relationship? Is there something in the brain that causes it?
Can an imbalance in hormones affect their behavior? Does our environment play a part? Could people
genetics have something to do with them abusing their partners? Could there be damaged to their
frontal lobe? Throughout this part, I m going to explain some of potential cause of people being
abusive towards their partner. Could people genetics have something to do with them abusing their
partners? It was discovered that some of our traits are influenced by our genes. The way that you
handle your problems could be similar to how your parents deal with them. Everyone has 46

The limbic system is the border between the new brain and the old brain. It s also has a lot to do with
the emotions that we feel every day in life. The hypothalamus is another part of brain that is connected
to our emotions and may have something to do with people abusing their partner. The anger that
people feel could explain their behavior towards the partner. It also tells the pituitary gland what to do.
Like nature and nurture, your genes and the environment that you are raised in work together. They
both depend on each other and make you who you are. How you are raised influences your
personality. It also determines how you treat the people that you are close with. For example, a child,
who was neglected during their childhood, is going to lash out at the ones who really care for them.
The child won t really trust anyone because no one was there to help them when they needed it. When
the child gets into a relationship, they won t know how to treat their partner or how their partner is

The 2008 Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee John
McCain are both very well political speakers when it comes to the presidential election, but they differ
in many ways. Both men differ in background, military and religion, and views on different subjects
dealing with the United States. Even though they differ for the most part, the two candidates do have a
few similarities.
Barack Obama is forty seven years old and was born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii (obama

Panama Canal Zone, where his mother and father; both naval officers were stationed (obama

includes Cherokee Indians and Lueo people of Kenya. John McCain graduated from Episcopal High
School in Virginia and then went on t the United States Naval Academy in 1958 (obama mccain.info).
Barack Obama went to many different schools up through High School, but then attended Occidental
College in Los Angeles for two years, then went to Columbia University in New York for political
science. He then continued his education at Harvard University and graduated to ten percentile of

Sociological Explanations Of Gender Differences
Sex is categorized on biological grounds for example male and female and it is as a result of nature
while gender elaborates sex on social grounds. (West and Zimmerman 1987) define gender as
something people learn to do through social pressure and one is not born with it.it is learned over a
period of time . A person s sex does not necessarily correspond with his or her gender and hence
division into various gender categories for example transgender, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, intersex
and gender queer. Gender categories are created when a male or a female do not match with their
specific sex roles in the society. Human sex differences in humans are between males and females and
they are determined by presence or absence of Y chromosomes. ... Show more content on

Even in adults, some of their voice pith cannot be classified. People are also learning on how to be
changing their sexuality and hence being grouped as a gender category. By learning asymmetry.
Feminist and gay rights movements play a crucial and critical role in gender . men are doing jobs
considered to be done by women and women are entering in male dominated fields. This has brought
about people being comfortable being in the position of the other sex.
In separation of sexes, boys play with boys and girls with other girls from a very young age. This
makes them become comfortable with each other and hence room for gender a category that is gayism
or lesbianism. Human sexes by developing desires, they then make themselves desirable by those in
the other sex .they do this by making themselves physically attractive. People looking for a lesbian or
gay relationship specify that candidates should be in the same gender category as theirs.(Livia 2002).
Through convention people do learn to do things they want without having a legit reason behind their
decision. This gives liberty to act in whatever manner they wish to and hence defining their gender.
As years pass by, the society does change and some of the gender categories gain importance while
some loose importance. Also the way they are looked at from our different institutions for example

Classification in Genesis 2:19 20
In Genesis 2:19 20 the LORD GOD forms the wild animals and birds from the ground and presents
them before Adam for him to name them. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task
to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for
him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the
universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any
relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to
organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding.
In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification
that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the
idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make
life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame
nature of these creatures and classified them separately. Similarly, he observed the wild and savage
nature of the wild animals and realized that these posed a danger because of their sharp claws,
powerful bodies and sharp teeth. Therefore, he classified them separately as wild animals. Finally,
Adam observed the creatures that possessed wings that enabled

Visual Cliff Summary
Psychologists Eleanor J. Gibson and Richard D. Walk at Cornell University conducted the Visual Cliff
experiment to investigate depth perception in human and animal species. The visual cliff apparatus
allowed them to experimentally adjust the visual, tactical, and other stimuli associated with the
simulated cliff while protecting the experimental subjects from injury. The cliff is created by
connecting a transparent glass surface, which is supported a foot or more above the floor, to a sheet of
patterned material. On one side of the glass, the patterned sheet is placed against the glass, given the
glass a solid look. On the other side, a sheet of the same patterned material is placed on the floor
beneath the glass, creating the visual cliff. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cognitive theory is based on internal states, such as motivation, decision making, thinking, and
attention. Children show some signs of thinking and decision making during the study; when the
infants were called from the cliff side, they examined the glass by patting it, and even though they feel
the solid glass they still didn t cross to their mothers. They also peered down the glass and backed
away. They didn t simply cross over, they stopped, thought wether this is safe to cross or not, and
made the decision to not cross regardless of the hardness of the glass they touched. This is where the
developmental theory comes. We learn that infants perception of depth develops faster than their
locomotors abilities. Many of the children did supported themselves on the glass as they maneuvered
awkwardly on the bored, and some even backed into the glass while looking at their mothers; if the
glass weren t there, they would have fallen and hurt themselves. I believe that this study will help
people understand that children should not be left alone on the edge of beds or any place

President Fdr s New Deal
At the peak of the Great Depression in 1932 the unemployment rate stood at 25 percent and the Dow
Jones Average sunk to a mere 34, indicating severe economic distress.1 Millions of individuals were
starving on the streets and billions of dollars were lost in the stock market. When Franklin Roosevelt
released the New Deal in 1933, a plan to provide relief, reform, and recovery to the distressed country,
Americans were in dire need of relief. Recognizing that something had to be done quickly, President
FDR implemented a series of programs to immediately mitigate the effects of the Depression. By
focusing on programs to aid business and labor, farmers, housing and homeowners, banks and the
stock market, and the youth of America, FDR attempted to provide the immediate relief from the
Great Depression that America so desperately needed. Although some of the programs in the New
Deal were more successful than others, they succeeded as a whole in providing the short term relief
that America needed to survive the Great Depression. The first major relief program for businesses
and labor was the Federal Emergency Relief Act. Released in 1933, the FERA created the Federal
Emergency Relief Administration, an agency that not only distributed federal aid to states for relief,
but also provided state directed work to boost the morale of the recipients.2 As Harry Hopkins,
advisor to FDR on work relief programs stated about FERA, Give him a job and pay him an assured

War Of 1812 Facts
A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left
handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the
war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought
and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year,
it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country.
Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships
shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they
can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired,
worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a
country doesn t get their way. The War of 1812 was between Great Britain, North American Colonies,

The Side Effects Of Vaccination
Vaccination is a biological preparation that builds immunity to a particular disease. Getting shots are
vital in getting prepared in epidemics. If more than half the population is vaccinated, it can block
further outbreaks. Although it may prevent future outbreaks of viruses, vaccinations has side effects
that prompts many families to avoid getting vaccination. Anti vaccination movement has become huge
issue where many people are blaming medical practices of vaccination for the cause of wide range of
health problems. Many families with newborn babies eschew vaccination because of many
controversial issue of vaccines resulting in health problems, the ineffectiveness, and the inhumane
ingredients used in vaccines. Many parents avoid vaccination for their baby because of many health
problems it can bring. There are many side effects to vaccination such as fever, rash, swelling, and
redness. In rare cases, deadly side effects such as serious allergic reaction can lead to death. In May
10, 2015 an article from New York Times, there were two deaths of babies and 29 were sickened in
Mexico due to vaccination for tuberculosis, rotavirus, and hepatitis B.1 This led to a temporary pause
in vaccinations world wide, and encouraged other families with newborn babies to avoid getting
vaccines. The controversial conflict arose when many deaths occurred due to deadly allergic reactions
from vaccination. According to Center for Disease Control, all vaccines carry a risk of life threatening

Design And Hermeneutic Phenomenology Research Paradigm Has...
10.4.5 Critique
The critique of this model derives principally from the criticisms that can be levelled at the research
methodology, particularly its non positivist approach, although a rationale for the single case study
design and hermeneutic phenomenology research paradigm has been made above (Ch 5,6).
Within its own epistemological terms a legitimate criticism of such a model of management might
derive more generally from its potential irrefutability, following Popper s criticism of the
pseudosciences , where a counter example is re interpreted within the frame of the model so as not to
contradict it, for example a non charismatic leader s behaviour might be reinterpreted as having
elements of the charismatic process, although they not being obvious.
A second critique might be made building on the assumption that managerial effectiveness within an
organisation in predicated on their ability to lead, mobilise and direct subordinates. As a result, it
might be argued that the model covers a very small element of the overall leadership and management
process, focussing exclusively on the manager s activity and leadership with their own subordinate
team, and missing the larger organisational function of the leader, their entrepreneurial activity, and
engagement with supraordinate managers. This is an acknowledged failing, based upon Parson s
collectivist notion of power (@@@@ above), and there are some speculations and proposals for
further research noted below.

Who Killed Jonbenoet Ramsey
Even though it happened 21 years ago, it is still the talk around the world. JonBenét Ramsey was
murdered on the day after Christmas in 1996. To this day, no one knows the truth about who actually
killed her. She was found dead inside her basement with a broken skull and bruises that implied that
she was strangled to death. Besides the bruises on her neck that implied the strangulation, a garrote
was also found tied around her. Before JonBenét was found in the basement, her family found a
ransom note on the staircase. Even with all of the evidence that has been gathered, there has been no
one charged with the murder of JonBenét. There has been a lot of suspicion about who actually killed
her, but research gives a lot of reason as to why it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few different reasons as to why we should all believe that is was Burke who murdered
JonBenét. One reason that her brother would have killed her was because of jealousy. After JonBenét
was born, all of the attention Burke used to get from his parents, especially his mom, went to JonBenét
instead. Patsy, Burke and JonBenét s mother, was a beauty queen in pageants, so she was really
excited to have a girl to enter into beauty pageants to be just like her. JonBenét was always getting her
mother s attention because they were always getting her ready for the next pageant. Whether it was
spending time doing makeup, hair, or getting new clothes, the time was not being spent with Burke,
which is all the more reason as to why he would have killed his sister. Being jealous is not the only
reason he would have killed her, though. In an interview, Judith Phillips, a Ramsey friend, talked
about how Burke had bad flashes of temper and would sometimes get angry easily (York). Maybe
JonBenét did something to upset Burke and he, in that moment, got angry with her and killed her. Not
only did Burke have a bad temper, but there was a previous encounter between Burke and JonBenét
about a year before her murder. Miss Phillips also claimed that the encounter involved Burke hitting
his sister in the face with a golf club, leaving a scar on her cheek. There were some pieces of evidence
that were found at the crime scene that would also lead someone to believe that it was her brother that
killed her. For example, not only did they find the garrote, but they also found a piece from a broken
wooden paint brush that had belonged to Patsy (Diamond). If the Ramsey family members were the
only ones in the house at the time that the crime was committed, the only answer to the murder would
be that it was someone from within their household. There is also reason to believe that it was her
brother who killed her because the autopsy revealed

On Joints Hippocrates Summary
Jessica Pileggi Assignment 1:Ancient Foundations of Manual Medicine, Metaphysics and Science As
early as 2700BC in China, a form of manipulation, described by the Kung Fou Document was
practiced. Centuries later, The Golden Mirror of Medicine had an illustration of a gravity traction
technique, suggesting that the practice of spinal manipulation had continued. The patient was
illustrated standing on two piles of tiles that were removed from under the patient as the practitioner
applied force to the patient s lumbar spine. In his book On Joints, Hippocrates was a physician that
identified two early techniques of spinal manipulation: succession and rachiotherapy. Succussion was
gravity traction carried out forcefully and rachiotherapy utilized a custom table to produce a spinal
adjustment. He is often cited for his saying, Look well to the spine for the cause of disease, as he
found it integral that individuals were educated on the spinal column, since many disorders were
thought to be related to the pine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mandatory Physical Education Research Paper
The number of obese children more than tripled since 1971. Physical education should be a mandatory
class, because at least one in three children in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Obesity is causing a
huge amount of health problems that previously weren t seen until adulthood. If all children had PE
class every day, it would help reduce the number of children affected by obesity and children would
develop a habit of daily physical exercise. Some health problems obese kids are getting can be very
serious. These include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and elevated blood pressure. Obese
children commonly have a lower self esteem , negative body image and depression. Physical
education is an essential part of growing and learning, not just the physical part is takes a big roll on
academic as well. Without Physical education in schools, children would have trouble learning about
other things such as math or science. Physical activity stimulates the minds of young children and
keeps them on the ball when learning new things.

Determining the Molecular Formula of a Hydrated Copper (II) Sulfate Through the Concept of Moles
Introduction
In this experiment, the mass percentage of water, and the molecular formula, of a hydrated copper (II)
sulfate will be calculated through an understanding of hydrates, percent composition, and moles.
A hydrated compound, is a compound that absorbs water molecules from the surrounding
environment.1 The water molecules attach to the compound, but do not form a chemical bond. Water
molecules in an inorganic hydrate can be released when the compound is heated, and become
anhydrous.1
In this experiment, by heating the hydrated copper (II) sulfate, the water molecules will evaporate and
separate from the compound leaving behind an anhydrous solid compound, copper (II) sulfate.
The mass of which will be recorded, and used to calculate the mass of water molecules in the hydrate.
The mass of the hydrate will be equal to the combined mass of the anhydrate and water molecules. It
is important to note that no reaction has occurred, since chemical bond have not been formed or
broken. By using the measurements found, the percent composition of water can be calculated through
equation (1) by substituting water for the element.
(1) % =
The molecular formula will be calculated, using equation (2) to convert the mass of water and the
anhydrate into moles.
(2) n =
Therefore, the hypothesis of this experiment is that by heating the hydrated copper (II) sulfate,

Dryland Training In Swimming
Dryland training in swimming dates back to early times. Running, push ups, pull ups, common
military training techniques have been incorporated in swimming training for years. This remained the
staple for years. Resistance training began with medicine balls, progressing to dumbbells, barbells,
and many more items in the 80s as Arnold was beginning to make strength cool. Functional
movements entered the sport in the 90s, as many doubted if adding muscle benefited swimming and if
the traditional big 3 lifts (bench press, deadlift, back squat) transferred to swimming. In the past
decade, strength training and full body resistance training has popped it s head back into swimming
training. Like swimming, strength and conditioning training is evolving, ... Show more content on

you need an in person strength coach. This strength coach must understand swimming or at least listen

The Design And Analysis Of Computer Experiments
Introduction
According to the case study, the design and analysis of computer experiments (DACE) were applied
as a tool to identify the risks associated with laser welding in an electronic welding process for

simulations to easily predict the stresses and warp of the sample with varying factor levels. The main
advantage here is instead of making eight different samples, the whole work was finishing with a

So, the team uses only 25 2 fractional factorial designs through computer simulations.
However, the team uses finite element analysis software along with DOE to predict two responses
from each run such as the stress and the deformation. In the case study, we observe the images that
show the stress and deformation due to a temperature change. The high stress and deformation areas
are shown by the red color. The low stress and deformation areas are indicated by the dark blue color.
At last the deformation of a single layer was imported into MATLAB (a matrix computing

The immediate step in this sequential experimentation was enhancing the factorial experiment with a

Nutrient Pollution In Our Waterways
Nutrient Pollution in Our Waterways
Causes, Impacts and Solutions
James Gracie

Professor Dennis Whitford
June 28, 2015 Nutrient pollution is responsible for hundreds of dead zones across the world s oceans
lakes and estuaries, and the number and size of them is growing. Many of these dead zones cover
thousands of square miles where almost nothing lives (National Science Foundation, n.d., Worldwide
Dead Zones section, para. 1). Nutrient pollution, also known as eutrophication occurs when nutrients,
most commonly nitrogen and phosphorus, from industrial, agricultural, residential, and airborne
sources enter the water in high concentrations. This process results in water that is too rich in
nutrients. This in turn causes a chain of events that can cause widespread ecological damage to both
aquatic ecosystems. In order to reduce nutrient pollution to sustainable levels and prevent a manmade
ecological disaster, mankind must stem the flow of nutrients into our waterways by regulating the
sources that contribute to it.
To address the problem of eutrophication, the causes must first be understood. Most causes of
eutrophication are well known and documented. One of the largest source contributors to the problem
of eutrophication worldwide is the burning of fossil fuels, which releases nitrogen oxides into the
atmosphere which are later deposited onto the ground and in

know how far along they are, you would then differentiate. This comprises making assignments

The Paradoxes Of Gender, By Judith Lorber
Judith Lorber s idea of gender meaning both sameness and difference is the key concept in Night to
His Day, an excerpt from her book The Paradoxes of Gender. In Night to His Day Lorber s main goal
in this piece is to show how gender is socially constructed. She does this by stating the many
components of gender within society that could be perpetrated either as a social institution (sameness)
or what gender is composed of at an individual level (difference). This paper will use examples from
Marilyn Monroe s The Seven Year Itch to demonstrate these components of gender.

In this scene, Richard s wife explains to their son that his father couldn t leave on vacation with them
because he had to stay home to make the money. This shows that families, at least at New York atn
this time, were almost totally dependent on the husbands income. That isn t to say that there were no
women working in the city at this time, but in multiple scenes it is clear that the women that stayed to
work didn t have families, meaning they had to support themselves, and had jobs that were less
corporate or hands on.
Marilyn Monroe s character was an of one of these women. She is unmarried and mentions no family
throughout the movie. She stays in New York working as a model and actress and makes just enough
to get by. Even though she is not married to Richard, she still shows a sort of dependence to him, like
when she asks to stay the night for his air conditioning, which begins to show an example of gendered
personalities, or females depending on the males in their lives. Another example of the division of

can assumed that she is not married through Richard s daydreams about her. She works in an office

Essay about American Influences of Walt Whitman
American Influences of Walt Whitman
In his poems and life, Walt Whitman celebrated the human spirit and the human body. He sang the
praises of democracy and marveled at the technological advances of his era. His direct poetic style
shocked many of his contemporaries. This style, for which Whitman is famous, is in direct relation to
several major American cultural developments. The development of American dictionaries, the growth
of baseball, the evolution of Native American policy, and the development of photography all played a
part and became essential components of Whitman s poetry.

It was then that the first recognizable baseball rules were set down in writing. As baseball was born, it

In 1855, when Whitman s Song of Myself was first printed, baseball was still very new. It was clearly
one of the distinctive elements of the American experience that Whitman found worth absorbing into
the song of himself, even though the term baseball had not yet made its way into the dictionaries. At
various times over the years, Whitman would extol many other sports, but there was only one sport he
would return to throughout his life, and that was baseball. To him, baseball was an activity with its
own built in localized slang, and its own essential connections to American culture; a game conceived,
developed, and originally played only in the United States of America. Clearly for Whitman, baseball
was the sport that coincided with the best aspects of the American character. In it he saw the
emergence of national sport one that had a rhythm and movement distinctly American. In this game,
he saw the possibilities for democratic crowds and brotherhood that he would celebrate in his poetry
(Folsom 30 53).

Income and wealth Inequality in Australia Essay
Inequality is present in every economy, but to what extent are income and wealth in Australia unequal
and what government polices contravene income and wealth inequality? Income is defined as money
that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or service or through
investing capital, while wealth is a measure of the value of all of the assets of worth owned by a
person, community, company or country.
Income and wealth inequality refers to the degree to which income is unevenly distributed among

This reveals that a relatively small proportion of households have high net worth and a large portion of

is more unequal in Australia than the distribution of income.
The disparities accounted for in the distribution of wealth and income tends to reflect wealth that is
accumulated during a person s working life and utilised during retirement. Whilst this sources the
foundation of inequality, the distribution of income in Australia is influenced by socio economic
factors such as gender, age, occupation and ethnicity. Gender is a common inconsistency in various
economies, during 2013 average weekly earnings for males were $1516 while females earned $1250,
this is still coherent for males and females in the same occupational categories, and is augmented for
opposite genders in different occupational categories. In terms of ethnicity, it has been recorded that
persons born overseas earn more than persons born in Australia, that non English speaking

proportional to the income earned. However, the lowest income earners in the Australian community

The History of Hitler and the Nazi Regime
In the Second World War, a man named Adolph Hitler, the leader of the infamous Nazi regime, had a
plethora of things on his mind. From guarding the stricken land of Poland against Soviet advancement,
to making sure the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean in France were closely guarded, Hitler had
much to worry about. Unfortunately, it was during Hitler s reign when a most horrible atrocity took
place.
Adolph Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in a small hamlet named Braunau Am Inn, just across the
border from German Bavaria. Hitler s childhood was often riddled with abuse and physical beatings.
His family lived in a small farmhouse with 10 other people. Because of this, Adolph s older ... Show

for his party. He then changed the name of the party to the National Socialist German Worker s Party,
or, in the shortened German form, the NAZI party (Keegan 65).
By 1921, the Nazi party had over 3000 members, mostly drawing in large numbers of ultra
conservatives from Munich. In late 1921, Hitler traveled to Berlin to try and find more members for
his party, but quickly returned, for the members of his party had signed a coup, which attempted to try
and overthrow Hitler. Offended, Hitler resigned his position, only to be asked to join again two weeks
later. He knew the party was nothing without him (Gilber 54).
Between 1921 and 1923, Germany had collapsed into financial ruin. Germany was presented with a 33

finished. It took 4 billion marks to buy a loaf of bread. Life savings were completely wiped out. As a
result, riots broke out. These riots incited extremist political groups into action, quickly bringing
Germany to the brink of chaos.
In 1923, the Nazi s had a party population of 55,000 members, far more than any extremist group
vying for power. Hitler, knowing this, devised a plan, in which the Nazi s would kidnap the leaders of
the Bavarian government, and hold them at gunpoint until they accepted Hitler as their leader. The

Guard. Just as one might see local and state police patrolling the streets and highways the waterways
need policing also. They provide access to many ports and inlets that could be used for illegal activity.
Some of this illegal activity can range from weapons and drug smuggling to human trafficking. Some

The main goal of this unit is to provide safe use for all boaters of the public waters. The benefits to a
marine patrol can decrease boating intoxicated incidents and lessen the possibility of drowning s.
Improve the response time to remote areas that cannot be accessed by car or truck. Decrease in
criminal activity in areas located near water and overall increase water safety and public relations. The
cons of the marine patrol normally involve critical tactical training curriculums in addition to the
regular training required of law enforcement personnel. Sometimes weather condition will not allow
patrols to properly police an area or responded when needed increasing response time to calls for

Pros And Cons Of Microchip Implant
In recent discovery by the NBC News humans of the US are predicted to be tagged with microchips.
This medical chip is said to track medical health for every American. According to the reports, the
technology is forced to ask serious questions towards the statement I am who I say I am. A human
microchip implant is an identifying device or an RFID transponder encased in a small glass and
implanted in a human being. RFID stands for radio frequency identification. The chip is not battery
powered, powered instead by a reader that pulls information out of the chip. The sub dermal implant
contains a unique ID number that can be cross references it to a database and linked to information
contained in an external database, such as personal identification, ... Show more content on

RFID chips are found in lots of things we use every day, credit cards, pet trackers, to everyday phones,
also connecting with phone apps. Even creepier, the microchip is also found in the technology that is
currently at Disney World s MagicBand, which tracks a wearer s location within the park and connects
to that person s accounts for the parks amusement rides. One fact about the RFID microchip is that it
was not the first microchip to be approved. A company called VeriChip actually got approved by the
FDA to market an implant back in 2004. The implant was designed to carry a unique ID number that
hospitals could use to pull up a patient s medical records if he or she were unconscious; however, the
chip was discontinued in 2010 over privacy concerns with HIPPA. Even if the microchip is roughly
the shape and size of a grain of rice and works like a tiny computer, even the tiny computer can catch
a virus just as a regular computer today can. The chances of identity theft becoming more and more
common will increase dramatically. Also with a microchip being so small and fragile it would make it
easier for damaged, even more so for those who have jobs that require hands on. Our number rule in
the medical field is the patient s privacy; with the microchip approved it will only make it our number

Use of Language and Imagery in act One Scene Two of...
Use of Language and Imagery in act One Scene Two of Shakespeare s Henry V The French
ambassadors are shown into Henry s court. They were sent from the Dauphin, son of the French King.
The Dauphin s message is an insulting rejection of Henry s claim to the French dukedoms and refers
to his reputation as a trivial pleasure seeker. The message is accompanied by a mocking gift of tennis
balls, suggesting that he should go and play games. Dramatically this is a tense moment. The Dauphin
has under estimated Henry. The childhood imagery of Henry has departed and now arose a new King.
Henry is a reformed character. He admits that he did not value his position and responsibility when he
was in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Henry then comes back to the theme of the tennis in his reply to the Dauphin and warns that a
more deadly game will follow. There is much confident in Henry s speech. He is contrasting the image
of the tennis game to the game of war as he says we will in France, by God s Grace, play a set. There
is a tone change, when he states God, but there is also reference to Henry s religious side. God permits
Henry s anger. When Henry says play a set , he declares that they will play a game of war. There is a
pun when Henry says courts. That all the courts of France will be disturbed. The word court is used in
two different terms in Henry s speech. Firstly the term court could mean tennis courts and secondly it
could mean the courts of France, where the battle will commence. Henry replies to the Dauphin that
the tennis balls will be turned into gun stones, Hath turned his balls to gun stones, at the battle and this
is an extended metaphor. Henry again refers to God, his soul. God is mentioned a few times by Henry
and this establishes an image that God is on Henry s side. The word mock is used four times in Henry
s lecture meaning he shows anger at the Dauphin s mockery of the tennis balls. Just as tennis is a
mock game and the game they are going to play in France will make mockery of Dauphin judgement

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Essay
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra s performance of Mahler s Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin
Philharmonie, gifted the audience with a masterful rendition of the movements within the symphony.
The Symphony divides into three separate parts, in which the movements complement each other s
characteristics. The symphony orchestra features a myriad of orchestral instruments featuring the
Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion families. Furthermore, the various movements throughout
the performance utilize various musical concepts that bring the music to life. Albeit, the complexity of
Mahler s symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed superbly throughout the
performance. The five movements of Mahler s symphony complement each other in three different
parts throughout the performance. For instance, the first movement Trauermarsch presents a somber
mood that complements the intensity of the second movement Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter

trumpet solo in movement I Trauermarsch, exemplifies monophony within the movement composed in
rondo form. Next, the fast tempo of Movement II Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz represents
allegretto, whilst featuring a myriad of discords until reaching the final resolution. Furthermore,
Movement III Scherzo, represents an abrupt shift in the symphony s style switching from the dark
minor scale of movements I and II to the more jubilant major scale. Moreover, Movement IV
Adagietto slows the symphony s tempo to adagio, and only employs the use of the Stringed
instruments. Last but not least, Movement IV Rondo Finale speeds up the symphony once more up to
Allegro, ending in a dramatic climax with a brief cadence. Mahler s Symphony no. 5 took the

The Pledge of Allegiance Essay
At the beginning of each day in many public and private schools around the country, students stand
and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. In fact, 35 states have passed laws mandating that the Pledge be
recited on a daily basis. This issue has been a source of controversy for years. On one side of the
argument exists families and educators who believe in the citizenship and patriotism that reciting the
Pledge brings (Chiodo, 2011). On the opposing side, families and educators argue the possible threat
to an individual s First Amendment freedoms. Before analyzing the above described controversy, we
must first examine the history of the Pledge itself. Written by Francis Bellamy, it was originally titled
the Pledge to the Flag and was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Author Laurie Bennett explains that, In the aftermath [...] people were hungry for social rituals and
eager to communicate a deeper sense of national belonging. They looked for symbols and rituals that
could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge
of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state
legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into
the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from
the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed
concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population
generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal
judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a
re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004). Therefore, many state
governments have embraced the mandating of the Pledge in order to accomplish such a
recommitment. Supporters of daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms claim that the
rote and compulsory aspects of the Pledge are in fact beneficial. They see the rote recitation of the

medical administrators and all healthcare workers to communicate in one language. To protect a

setting, key incident(s), narrative technique, symbolism, structure, climax, plot, atmosphere, dialogue,
imagery.
Choose a novel or short story with a central character you consider to be heroic, Show how the heroic
qualities are revealed and discuss how this portrayal of the character enhances your understanding of
the text as a whole.
ANSWER:
Many complaints recently have revolved around the strong targeting the weak. In Alan Bolds short
story The Vandals we hear the story of Gordon Miller. A retired Civil Servant whom is ... Show more

This shows Gordon Miller becoming heroic as he is standing up to the vandals who have been
tormenting him. This gives us the understanding that certain people can only take so much stress and
disruption in their lives before they come to the end of their tether and retaliate. The last sentence in
the story is an image of Miller sitting playing with a set of Roman Soldiers . This shows that Gordon
Miller is a lot more complex than Bold let us believe. He likes order and stability in his life, he does
not like change and disruptions. As he is playing with the Roman Soldier set this represents the order
that he likes in his life.
In conclusion revealing Gordon Millers personality slowly throughout the short story Bold uses a
number of techniques such as pathos, setting, imagery and word choice. Through these we feel
empathy towards Gordon Miller and understand why he proceeded taking the heroic actions that he
did. This helps the reader not to dislike Miller for his actions but feel happy for him that he finally got
justice on the vandals.

Differences Between Rfid And Barcode
1) Differences between RFID and Barcode:
RFID and barcodes have some similarities since they both carry product information and they are both
data collection technologies, which automate the process of collecting data. However, they have
significantly differences which are as follows:
 Barcode readers require a direct line of sight to printed barcode; RFID readers do not require a
direct line of sight to either active RFID tags or passive RFID tags.
 RFID tags can be read at much greater distances; and RFID reader can pull information form a tag
at distances up to 300 feet. The range to read a barcode is much less, typically no more than 15 feet.
 RFID tags much faster; read rates of forty or more tags per second are possible. Reading ... Show

  • 2. In the Content of the Period 1485-1587, to What Extent Did... In the content of the period 1485 1587, to what extent did the Northern Rebellion of 1569 represent a significant threat to the security of the Tudor State? Rebellions caused a serious threat to monarchs; and as a result of the War of The Roses and Henry VII s usurpation in 1485, the Tudor Dynasty had effectively been founded on Rebellion so it may be possible to assume that the Tudor Dynasty could be removed by rebellion. The Tudor period can be seen as a time of unrest as each Tudor monarch had at least one rebellion during their reign. The majority of the Tudor rebellions were a significant threat as they attacked the authority of the Crown; suggesting a period of instability throughout the 100 years as each rebellion was a constant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This to an extent is true as the Treason Act and Henry s Royal Supremacy were all seen as clear examples of Cromwell s policies. Moreover, Henry VIII had said like traitors and rebels have attempted, and not like true subjects, as ye name yourselves which illustrates that Henry VIII felt they were a threat as they were questioning his judgement as king. As well as this, the Yorkshire rebellion had political connotations as there was resentment in Yorkshire of a Lancastrian monarch when a Yorkist has been overthrown. Moreover, the revolt involving Perkin Warbeck, had the support of James IV and Charles VIII as well as the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilan, threatening Henry VII s position as ruler as there was a possible danger than he may have been overthrown. However, the support from these influential figures wasn t strong and Warbeck had little support south of the border. In addition, the Wyatt s rebellion was also a political threat, questioning the security of the Tudor State. This was due to the proposed marriage of Mary Queen of Scots to Philip of Spain. Nevertheless, this revolt didn t have the support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Opioids And Its Effects Introduction The opioids produce analgesic effects no matter is endogenous or synthetic, including morphine, codeine and methadone. (3)Endogenous opioid peptides such as endorphins, enkephalins and dynorphins activate opioid receptors including mu receptors (mainly), delta receptors, kappa receptors and ORL1 receptors to produce different effects. One of the non analgesic effects is the disruption of sleep wake behaviour by the opioids actions on the ventrolateral preoptic nucleus (VLPO). The differences of the pharmacokinetic properties between the 3 opioids mentioned and the possible mechanisms of sleep wake regulations will be discussed below. Pharmacokinetics of the opioids The opioids are divided into subgroups based on chemical structures. (1) Morphine and codeine are in the group that has a 4, 5 epoxymorphinan ring in each of the opioids. (1)(Fig1) The free hydroxyl on the benzene ring linked by 2C and 2N determines the opioid activity. (3) Codeine is produced by substituting the hydroxyl group on the carbon 3 atom on the morphine while that hydroxyl group is responsible for binding properties. Therefore codeine is less potent. (4) Methadone is one of the diphenylheptylamines which is relatively lipophilic comparing to morphine and codeine. (5) (Fig1)These opioids all interact with mu opioid receptors primarily but they differ in pharmacokinetics. (1) Administration The majority of opioids can be taken by oral administration. • 4. The European Community s Involvement in the Energy Sector The European Union s total expenditures on research and development have grown rapidly since the mid 1980s. For example, in the period between the EU s First Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (spanning the period 1984 1987) and the Fourth Framework Programme (1994 1998), R D investments under the Framework Programme grew in real terms by more than 120%. The budget for the Fifth Framework Programme (1998 2002) is projected to be approximately $15 billion. R D investments in the health, biotechnology, information technology, and transportation areas have grown most markedly in recent years. Energy R D constitutes a major, yet declining, share of the total R D expenditures of the European Union (EU). Adoption in 1996 of a Directive for the Internal Market for Electricity: The Directive marks the first major legislative step toward the creation of an open and competitive European electricity market. Under this law, all Member States were required to open at least 25.37% of their electricity markets to competition as of February 1999. Under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, the European Union committed itself to an 8% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 2008 2012. Greenhouse gas emissions reduction and climate change mitigation now occupy a central position in EU Energy policy. The increase in funding for renewable energy R D in the Fourth Framework Programme aimed to propel the growth of renewable energy in Europe and to spur European ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing Raymond Carver s A Small Good Thing, a short story that has to do with the lack of interaction and empathy between the baker, Ann and Howard, the finale where the baker is startled to find out about the child s death, asks for mercy and presents them warm cinnamon rolls telling them that Eating is a small, good thing in a time like this and they are comforted, reveals particular significance of the title in terms of the story s theme. Also, Raymond Carver s Cathedral, a story that starts with an ignorant and rude narrator whose wife has called a blind friend to spend the night at their home and according to Carver, A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to, (38) has some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the baker takes all the rage thrown on him by Ann, he in return begs for forgiveness and gives the parents what they were lacking, that is food. The baker does all this even though he is alone and virtually makes contact with anybody. In Raymond s Cathedral, certain similarities can be drawn from the thematic content that is revealed in both stories. In Cathedral, the theme is expansive, but the ones that are similar in both stories are communication, and empathy. The communication theme in this story is much more serious than the one in A Small Good Thing, the reason being that the narrator has less or no communication whatsoever with his wife. This is vividly shown in the story where the narrator says When the time rolled around, my wife went to the depot to pick him up. With nothing to do but wait, I was having a drink and watching TV. (41) This deficiency of intimacy, intercourse led the narrator to be ignorant but very thoughtful. However the narrator s thoughtfulness did not lead him to understand that his lack of tolerance was much more serious than he knew it was. In A Small Good Thing, as mentioned earlier, after Howard returns home, the baker keeps on calling him and telling him about the cake, but Howard tells him I don t know anything about a cake, Jesus what are you talking about? Ann never tells Howard about the cake she ordered before Scott s accident. Here the lack of communication theme is less serious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles 1. Introduction It is suggested that leadership is a kind of ability or activity which a leader could straight affect and guide their followers to achieve certain objectives in the specific situation (John Calvin Maxwell,2011). The shifting internal elements and increasing external competitions have posed growing demanding to managers leadership approaches. However, managers are provided with various personalities or perspectives, accordingly, managers are not accomplishing their aims by using similar styles. The leadership style, according to Newstrom and Davis (1993), is the ways and approaches of offering targets, fulfilling plans as well as inspiring subordinates. Based on the types of individuals the leader works with and various personality traits hold by the leader, the leadership style differs. There are several leadership styles suggested by different researchers such as autocratic, democratic, laissez fair, transactional and transformational. Some of leadership styles are no longer suit for current marketplaces especially for those organizations which want to attract talent person from all over the world and exploit global markets. • 8. Root Rot Caused By M. Phaseolina Root rot caused by M. phaseolina (a soil as well as seed borne fungus) is a devastating disease of mungbean and causes serious yield losses. The present study has demonstrated that the fungus induced severe root rot in mungbean cv. T 44 and exhibited significant decline in the plant growth and yield. This has verified that the tested mungbean cv. T 44 was susceptible to the root rot fungus. Rotting of tap root and presence of few lateral roots is the characteristic symptom of the disease. Because of few lateral roots and root hairs, drying and withering of leaves occurs due to less water absorption. During the initial stages of pathogenesis, the fungal hyphae penetrates the root epidermis which is restricted to the intercellular spaces of the cortical tissues of the primary roots. Due to this, collapse of adjacent cells occurs and heavily infected plantlets may die. Afterwards at the onset of flower, the mycelium grow intracellularly through the xylem and plug the vessels [28, 29], produce toxins and several enzymes [30, 31], and thereby disrupt host cells. Inoculation with M. phaseolina decreased the growth and yield of mungbean by 32.1 45.5% and 36%, respectively. Soil and seed borne nature of the pathogen creates problem for an effective management of the root rot disease. Use of the chemicals is one of the best options for the management of plant diseases which is quick as well as effective method. The present approach was to manage the root rot disease by using ... I don t know what possessed me, Joe... but I wish you hadn t taught me to call knaves at cards jacks, and I wish my boots weren t so thick nor my hands so coarse (Dickens 694). COMMENTS: Throughout this entire scene, Pip explains to Joe why he lied to Mrs. Joe and Mr. Pumblechook. In this part, Pip feels terrible about his common life and wish he had a greater one. This is a defining and moment in Pip s life because until now Pip thought his life would amount to nothing. Then, Joe explains he is extraordinary and Pip believes it, and thrives to do better in the next chapter. He stirred his rum and water pointedly at me, and he tasted his rum and water pointedly at me not with a spoon that was brought to him, but with a file... I knew it was Joe s file (Dickens 697). CONFUSING: During this part of the chapter, the stranger sits and drinks with Pip and Joe. While this goes on the stranger pulls out the file Pip stole from Joe and gave to the convict. While at first, this seems bold and unnerving. Then, it begins to stir up a few questions. Why did the stranger have the file, when Pip gave the file to the convict he ran off a few minutes later to catch the second convict. So this part was confusing, when did the first convict ever get the chance to talk to the stranger, let alone give him Joe s stolen file. Evaluation Of Audit And Assurance Standards Board Title The title of the proposed research is as follows; A review of auditors approach to audit risk in the UK Introduction As defined by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) audit risk is The risk that the auditor expresses an inappropriate audit opinion when the financial statements are materially misstated (IAASB, 2009). The purpose of the auditors is to obtain reasonable assurance that financial statements are prepared in accordance with an applicable financial framework, are free from material misstatements and show a true and fair view of the company. This is to ensure shareholders are able to make rational decisions regarding their investment through reliance on the financial statements. The proposed research would provide a better insight into available rules and procedures designed to aid auditors in the assessment of audit risk, but more importantly, examine their own approaches. It would be interesting to see how companies use their own judgement to identify audit risks, measure their significance and deal with the findings. Additionally, awareness of the process and approaches used by auditors to identify audit risks would enable shareholders to raise their understanding about the accuracy of an audit opinion and so the extent to which it can be relied on. • 11. Overfishing Is A Serious Problem Overfishing is a serious problem that often gets overlooked. In the article by Udy Bell, called Overfishing: A Threat to Marine Biology, Bell talks about how only 1 percent of the world s oceans are marine protected areas (MPAs). MPAs not only help protect oceans by allowing habitats to recover from damage caused by overfishing but also allow fish to safely reproduce. Due to fishing fish faster then they can reproduce, many species of fish are going endangered or already endangered of being extinct. Species like whales, dungongs, sea cows, codfish, jewfish, sharks, and other marine vertebrates are examples of fish that are being overfished. Overfishing was addressed at the World Summit in Johannesburg, Africa in 2002 (Bell 17). At the World Summit, many experts in the field of overfishing agreed that the most effective way to battle overfishing is by creating and establishing more MPAs around the world. Although overfishing is a serious problem, there are ways to solve the problem like creating Marine Protected Areas. Gutierrez 2 Humans are the ones responsible for the damage caused to our oceans by overfishing. MPAs are essential to preserve and protect the biological diversity of the oceans (Kechington, Ward, Hegerl 7). In The Benefits of Marine Protected Areas, by Richard Kenchington, Trevor Ward, and Eddie Hegerl, talk about why MPAs are crucial to the prevention of overfishing. Sociological Explanations Of Gender Differences Sex is categorized on biological grounds for example male and female and it is as a result of nature while gender elaborates sex on social grounds. (West and Zimmerman 1987) define gender as something people learn to do through social pressure and one is not born with it.it is learned over a period of time . A person s sex does not necessarily correspond with his or her gender and hence division into various gender categories for example transgender, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, intersex and gender queer. Gender categories are created when a male or a female do not match with their specific sex roles in the society. Human sex differences in humans are between males and females and they are determined by presence or absence of Y chromosomes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminist and gay rights movements play a crucial and critical role in gender . men are doing jobs considered to be done by women and women are entering in male dominated fields. This has brought about people being comfortable being in the position of the other sex. In separation of sexes, boys play with boys and girls with other girls from a very young age. This makes them become comfortable with each other and hence room for gender a category that is gayism or lesbianism. Human sexes by developing desires, they then make themselves desirable by those in the other sex .they do this by making themselves physically attractive. People looking for a lesbian or gay relationship specify that candidates should be in the same gender category as theirs.(Livia 2002). Through convention people do learn to do things they want without having a legit reason behind their decision. This gives liberty to act in whatever manner they wish to and hence defining their gender. Christian Worldview in Research Design Christian Worldview in Research Design Classification in Genesis 2:19 20 In Genesis 2:19 20 the LORD GOD forms the wild animals and birds from the ground and presents them before Adam for him to name them. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding. In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame nature of these creatures and classified them separately. Similarly, he observed the wild and savage nature of the wild animals and realized that these posed a danger because of their sharp claws, powerful bodies and sharp teeth. Therefore, he classified them separately as wild animals. Finally, Adam observed the creatures that possessed wings that enabled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Walk at Cornell University conducted the Visual Cliff experiment to investigate depth perception in human and animal species. The visual cliff apparatus allowed them to experimentally adjust the visual, tactical, and other stimuli associated with the simulated cliff while protecting the experimental subjects from injury. The cliff is created by connecting a transparent glass surface, which is supported a foot or more above the floor, to a sheet of patterned material. On one side of the glass, the patterned sheet is placed against the glass, given the glass a solid look. On the other side, a sheet of the same patterned material is placed on the floor beneath the glass, creating the visual cliff. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Cognitive theory is based on internal states, such as motivation, decision making, thinking, and attention. Children show some signs of thinking and decision making during the study; when the infants were called from the cliff side, they examined the glass by patting it, and even though they feel the solid glass they still didn t cross to their mothers. They also peered down the glass and backed away. They didn t simply cross over, they stopped, thought wether this is safe to cross or not, and made the decision to not cross regardless of the hardness of the glass they touched. This is where the developmental theory comes. We learn that infants perception of depth develops faster than their locomotors abilities. Many of the children did supported themselves on the glass as they maneuvered awkwardly on the bored, and some even backed into the glass while looking at their mothers; if the glass weren t there, they would have fallen and hurt themselves. • 17. President Fdr s New Deal At the peak of the Great Depression in 1932 the unemployment rate stood at 25 percent and the Dow Jones Average sunk to a mere 34, indicating severe economic distress.1 Millions of individuals were starving on the streets and billions of dollars were lost in the stock market. When Franklin Roosevelt released the New Deal in 1933, a plan to provide relief, reform, and recovery to the distressed country, Americans were in dire need of relief. Recognizing that something had to be done quickly, President FDR implemented a series of programs to immediately mitigate the effects of the Depression. By focusing on programs to aid business and labor, farmers, housing and homeowners, banks and the stock market, and the youth of America, FDR attempted to provide the immediate relief from the Great Depression that America so desperately needed. Although some of the programs in the New Deal were more successful than others, they succeeded as a whole in providing the short term relief that America needed to survive the Great Depression. The first major relief program for businesses and labor was the Federal Emergency Relief Act. Released in 1933, the FERA created the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, an agency that not only distributed federal aid to states for relief, but also provided state directed work to boost the morale of the recipients.2 As Harry Hopkins, advisor to FDR on work relief programs stated about FERA, Give him a job and pay him an assured wage, and you save ... • 19. War Of 1812 Facts A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year, it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country. Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired, worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a country doesn t get their way. Many families with newborn babies eschew vaccination because of many controversial issue of vaccines resulting in health problems, the ineffectiveness, and the inhumane ingredients used in vaccines. Many parents avoid vaccination for their baby because of many health problems it can bring. There are many side effects to vaccination such as fever, rash, swelling, and redness. In rare cases, deadly side effects such as serious allergic reaction can lead to death. In May 10, 2015 an article from New York Times, there were two deaths of babies and 29 were sickened in Mexico due to vaccination for tuberculosis, rotavirus, and hepatitis B.1 This led to a temporary pause in vaccinations world wide, and encouraged other families with newborn babies to avoid getting vaccines. • 21. Design And Hermeneutic Phenomenology Research Paradigm Has... 10.4.5 Critique The critique of this model derives principally from the criticisms that can be levelled at the research methodology, particularly its non positivist approach, although a rationale for the single case study design and hermeneutic phenomenology research paradigm has been made above (Ch 5,6). Within its own epistemological terms a legitimate criticism of such a model of management might derive more generally from its potential irrefutability, following Popper s criticism of the pseudosciences , where a counter example is re interpreted within the frame of the model so as not to contradict it, for example a non charismatic leader s behaviour might be reinterpreted as having elements of the charismatic process, although they not being obvious. A second critique might be made building on the assumption that managerial effectiveness within an organisation in predicated on their ability to lead, mobilise and direct subordinates. As a result, it might be argued that the model covers a very small element of the overall leadership and management process, focussing exclusively on the manager s activity and leadership with their own subordinate team, and missing the larger organisational function of the leader, their entrepreneurial activity, and engagement with supraordinate managers. This is an acknowledged failing, based upon Parson s collectivist notion of power (@@@@ above), and there are some speculations and proposals for further research noted below. ... To this day, no one knows the truth about who actually killed her. She was found dead inside her basement with a broken skull and bruises that implied that she was strangled to death. Besides the bruises on her neck that implied the strangulation, a garrote was also found tied around her. Before JonBenét was found in the basement, her family found a ransom note on the staircase. There has been a lot of suspicion about who actually killed her, but research gives a lot of reason as to why it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a few different reasons as to why we should all believe that is was Burke who murdered JonBenét. One reason that her brother would have killed her was because of jealousy. After JonBenét was born, all of the attention Burke used to get from his parents, especially his mom, went to JonBenét instead. Patsy, Burke and JonBenét s mother, was a beauty queen in pageants, so she was really excited to have a girl to enter into beauty pageants to be just like her. JonBenét was always getting her mother s attention because they were always getting her ready for the next pageant. Whether it was spending time doing makeup, hair, or getting new clothes, the time was not being spent with Burke, which is all the more reason as to why he would have killed his sister. Being jealous is not the only reason he would have killed her, though. In an interview, Judith Phillips, a Ramsey friend, talked about how Burke had bad flashes of temper and would sometimes get angry easily (York). Maybe JonBenét did something to upset Burke and he, in that moment, got angry with her and killed her. Not only did Burke have a bad temper, but there was a previous encounter between Burke and JonBenét about a year before her murder. Miss Phillips also claimed that the encounter involved Burke hitting his sister in the face with a golf club, leaving a scar on her cheek. There were some pieces of evidence that were found at the crime scene that would also lead someone to believe that it was her brother that killed her. For example, not only did they find the garrote, but they also found a piece from a broken wooden paint brush that had belonged to Patsy (Diamond). If the Ramsey family members were the only ones in the house at the time that the crime was committed, the only answer to the murder would be that it was someone from within their household. Determining the Molecular Formula of a Hydrated Copper (II) Sulfate Through the Concept of Moles Introduction In this experiment, the mass percentage of water, and the molecular formula, of a hydrated copper (II) sulfate will be calculated through an understanding of hydrates, percent composition, and moles. A hydrated compound, is a compound that absorbs water molecules from the surrounding environment.1 The water molecules attach to the compound, but do not form a chemical bond. Water molecules in an inorganic hydrate can be released when the compound is heated, and become anhydrous.1 In this experiment, by heating the hydrated copper (II) sulfate, the water molecules will evaporate and separate from the compound leaving behind an anhydrous solid compound, copper (II) sulfate. The mass of which will be recorded, and used to calculate the mass of water molecules in the hydrate. The mass of the hydrate will be equal to the combined mass of the anhydrate and water molecules. It is important to note that no reaction has occurred, since chemical bond have not been formed or broken. By using the measurements found, the percent composition of water can be calculated through equation (1) by substituting water for the element. (1) % = The molecular formula will be calculated, using equation (2) to convert the mass of water and the anhydrate into moles. • 30. Nutrient Pollution In Our Waterways Nutrient Pollution in Our Waterways Causes, Impacts and Solutions James Gracie University of Maryland University College Environmental Change and Sustainability NSCI 362 Professor Dennis Whitford June 28, 2015 Nutrient pollution is responsible for hundreds of dead zones across the world s oceans lakes and estuaries, and the number and size of them is growing. Many of these dead zones cover thousands of square miles where almost nothing lives (National Science Foundation, n.d., Worldwide Dead Zones section, para. 1). Nutrient pollution, also known as eutrophication occurs when nutrients, most commonly nitrogen and phosphorus, from industrial, agricultural, residential, and airborne sources enter the water in high concentrations. This process results in water that is too rich in nutrients. This in turn causes a chain of events that can cause widespread ecological damage to both aquatic ecosystems. In order to reduce nutrient pollution to sustainable levels and prevent a manmade ecological disaster, mankind must stem the flow of nutrients into our waterways by regulating the sources that contribute to it. To address the problem of eutrophication, the causes must first be understood. Most causes of eutrophication are well known and documented. One of the largest source contributors to the problem of eutrophication worldwide is the burning of fossil fuels, which releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere which are later deposited onto the ground and in ... To him, baseball was an activity with its own built in localized slang, and its own essential connections to American culture; a game conceived, developed, and originally played only in the United States of America. Clearly for Whitman, baseball was the sport that coincided with the best aspects of the American character. In it he saw the emergence of national sport one that had a rhythm and movement distinctly American. In this game, he saw the possibilities for democratic crowds and brotherhood that he would celebrate in his poetry (Folsom 30 53). Whilst this sources the foundation of inequality, the distribution of income in Australia is influenced by socio economic factors such as gender, age, occupation and ethnicity. The colonizers of the time were focused on only improving the state of their own countries and never even paid attention to what the indigenous peoples were forced to do. Essay on The History of Hitler and the Nazi Regime The History of Hitler and the Nazi Regime In the Second World War, a man named Adolph Hitler, the leader of the infamous Nazi regime, had a plethora of things on his mind. From guarding the stricken land of Poland against Soviet advancement, to making sure the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean in France were closely guarded, Hitler had much to worry about. Unfortunately, it was during Hitler s reign when a most horrible atrocity took place. Adolph Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in a small hamlet named Braunau Am Inn, just across the border from German Bavaria. Hitler s childhood was often riddled with abuse and physical beatings. He then changed the name of the party to the National Socialist German Worker s Party, or, in the shortened German form, the NAZI party (Keegan 65). By 1921, the Nazi party had over 3000 members, mostly drawing in large numbers of ultra conservatives from Munich. In late 1921, Hitler traveled to Berlin to try and find more members for his party, but quickly returned, for the members of his party had signed a coup, which attempted to try and overthrow Hitler. Offended, Hitler resigned his position, only to be asked to join again two weeks later. He knew the party was nothing without him (Gilber 54). Between 1921 and 1923, Germany had collapsed into financial ruin. Germany was presented with a 33 billion dollar bill, as reparations as a result of World War I. Inflation hit the roof, and the economy was finished. It took 4 billion marks to buy a loaf of bread. Life savings were completely wiped out. As a result, riots broke out. These riots incited extremist political groups into action, quickly bringing Germany to the brink of chaos. In 1923, the Nazi s had a party population of 55,000 members, far more than any extremist group vying for power. Hitler, knowing this, devised a plan, in which the Nazi s would kidnap the leaders of the Bavarian government, and hold them at gunpoint until they accepted Hitler as their leader. They looked for symbols and rituals that could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004).
