The Cost Of The Cadillac Tax
Intentions of the Tax One of the primary goals of the Cadillac tax is to reduce the growing costs of
national health care (Lowry 2015). The government is hopeful that implementation of the Cadillac tax
will reduce overall health care expenditures and impede the growth of health care costs by
encouraging a change in consumer behavior through discouraging the provision and obtainment of
overly generous health coverage plans (Herring, 2011). Generally, individuals who are insured spend
greater amounts on health care than those who are not as they can consume greater amounts of
healthcare with a lesser personal burden. In the case that the insurance provided to an individual is
overly generous, it encourages over spending on health care due to the fact that they incur a only a
portion of costs of consumption. In this manner, the consumption of an inefficient amount of health
care is perpetuated by the provision of overly generous health care coverage. This inefficiency and
associated increase in demand for healthcare causes the price of healthcare to rise, which exacerbates
the undesirable growth in national health care costs (Gravelle, 2015). The Cadillac tax aims to
discourage the provision and obtainment of overly generous health care coverage by employers in an
effort to decrease inefficient over consumption of health care and stagnate the growth in healthcare
costs. The intent of the Cadillac tax is to alter consumer behavior to decrease the provision of

President Lincoln Analysis
This film is directed by Robert Redford. This is the anecdote about the gathering of people who
schemed with John Wilkes Booth to kill President Lincoln. A young fellow Frederick Aiken returns
back to Washington, D.C. in the wake of battling in the Civil War on the Union side. He leaves the
military to be a non military personnel legal counselor by and by, similar to he was before the war. He
is gotten to know by a Senator from Virginia, Reverdy Johnson who is additionally a lawyer. The
Senator requests that he safeguard a lady who is blamed for scheming, to murder President Lincoln,
with John Wilkes Booth and other men who have been caught and are being held in prison. The lady

He gets a common trial, not a military one, and can t be indicted by a jury of his associates. It is an
ambivalent closure since it is sure his mom was far less blameworthy of connivance than he was. It isn

present day in which several prisoners at Guantanamo still grieve in jail without trial, where a U.S.

accused of, not to mention indicted, any wrongdoing, and where the perfect of due process and the
assumption of blamelessness is gradually being supplanted by boundless brutality, the disavowal of
lawfulness, and the undermining of majority rule government. Fascinating to me is putting aside any
expected parallels with current undertakings and taking a gander at what The Conspirator shows us
outside the universe of legislative issues. In times of war the law falls silent, prosecutor Joseph Holt
says close to the finish of the film. Thus The Conspirator sets up a contention between the individuals
who love the law or the individuals who think it was composed, and the individuals who trust that,
now and again, the law must assume a lower priority for more note worthy s

Nationalization of Bolvia s Oil and Gas Sector
Bolivia Nationalizes the Oil and Gas Sector a. What are the benefits and drawbacks of nationalization?
Benefits and drawbacks of nationalization 1. Public welfare: Nationalization abolishes the economic
powers to form a few monopolists and enables the govt. to take steps for the welfare of the public. 2.
Economic Prosperity: Government got the power to modernize the industry, communications and
transport for the best interest of the nation. So rapid growth of industries causes economic prosperity
in the country. 3. Maximum utilization of resources: All the oil, gases, minerals and other national
resources can be utilized maximum in order to achieve economic development. 4. Development of

So the resource of one profit making industry will be given to another loss making industry to balance
the nationalized economy. 7. Low Investment: Investors does not take risk to invest large sum of
money due to difficulty in making profit. 8. Unjustified interferences: The normal business activities
are hampered by increasing interference of political parties and other influential person which is
undesirable and unreasonable. 9. Non availability of new scheme: Large volume of complex policies
is required to safeguard public and industries. So government may face critic to initiate new schemes
freely. 10. Faulty performance appraisal: The workers may not be promoted as per merit due to corrupt
means practiced by management and superior authorities. The charge is usually given to the officials
who are incompetent and inexperienced to run the industries. So the production volume is affected due
to lack of skilled and efficient supervision. 11. Uncertainty due to change in administration: The
policy of nationalised industries does not remain same for ever. It may be changed by the change of
government/management which results in confusion and hesitation. 12. Mismanagement: The
controlling authority of the nationalised enterprises may play discrimination and favouritism. They
may appoint dishonest and corrupt persons in the sensible positions. Therefore frauds and

In 1898, the Americans won the Spanish American War, and signed the Treaty of Paris, which ceded
both Cuba and the Philippines, among others, to the US for the sum of 20 million dollars. The two
countries, which are both islands, have a tropical climate almost all year round. They were both part of
the Spanish empire for almost 400 years. Both Cuba and the Philippines have the natural resources
nickel, cobalt, timber, salt, copper, and petroleum. Additionally, these nations are both well educated,
with over 95% of their population over 15 years old able to read and write.
In 1492, Cuba was discovered by Christopher Columbus, and thus became a Spanish colony. The
Philippines became a Spanish colony 29 years later, in

A Brief Note On Internal Medicine And Nursing Essay
People are my passion! I wake up each morning praying that I make a positive impact in someone s
life. The value of my life lies not on personal achievement and possessions but on how profitable I
have been to my neighbor and my world. This belief, no doubt has influenced my choice of career and
specialty. Internal medicine is my number one specialty. I love this specialty because it provides me
the opportunity to solve varied medical problems ranging from acute care to management of chronic
disease. Just like solving a puzzle, an internist applies critical thinking, sound science in preventing,
diagnosing and treating varied adult diseases. Internal Medicine is an ever evolving discipline and
requires continuous and persistent updating of one s knowledge. This sits well with my massive
appetite of reading. I enjoy the challenges the specialty presents. I love the fact that an internist
provides consults to other physicians in disease diagnosis and work as primary care physician. The
broad subspecialties in internal medicine match and exceeds my perception of a complete doctor.
From a young age, my parents taught me to care and serve others. Although they had very little
western education, my parents became successful business owners and community leaders largely due
to hard work and dedicated service to people. They always told me that I could succeed in anything I
choose to do. They understood the value of education and supported me in all my endeavors.

An Analysis Of Charles Darwin s Notion Of Extinction
At the end of the documentary, Charles Darwin is quoted in regards to the notion of extinction. He
says, We need not marvel at extinction. If we must marvel, let it be at our own presumption in
imagining for a moment that we understand the many complex contingencies on which the existence
of each species depends. The appearance of new species and old species are bound together. This
quote is in reference to the ignorance that many people share about extinction. He says a lot of people
lack the full understanding of the impact of the phenomenon and the attributes associated to it. He
notes specifically that there is a lack of knowledge on which species will survive and the complete
livelihood of their wellbeing in the future. Charles Darwin

My Psychology Course And Remembered About The Cerebral...
I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological
psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory
information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres
and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation
that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the
brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the
overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect
certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of
the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both
sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical
seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons
have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures.
After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of
each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual
observer they disconnection isn t obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere

Electronic Medical Records And Electronic Health Records
Technology has advanced throughout the years. The effects of these advancements have been both
positive and negative. Not only have these advancements helped make our lives easier, it has also
helped us lived longer. For example, the use of the computer has evolved in health care. Medical
Professionals use the computer for their daily operations. As a result of the use of the computer, the
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) were created. In 2009,
President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which included the HITECH

EMR and EHR also helps keep information up to date. A study was done by to evaluate the staffed
nurses attitude and perception of the EHR in Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. The study found that majority
of the staffed nurses (95.5%) found the EHR as beneficial (Juliet Sudha, 2013). About 68% of the
nurses believed that EHR would be helpful and the about 73% of them believed EHR will reduce the
workload (Juliet Sudha, 2013). Cons Nurses have found the EMR and EHR beneficial. Many of them
have positives views of them. However, not all nurses have reciprocal feelings towards having patients
medical records electronically distributed. According to Nelson (2016), challenges to EHR usability
include workflow issues, forced word choices, lack of or limited free text, and difficulty finding data
or information, among others. Nurses have stated that inputting information to the EMR and EHR
takes too much time and it is also time consuming. The most common problem with EMR and EHR
are system failures. Computers crash every time and power outages are really common. If the system
ends up failing, then there might be no back up charts. One major problem would be the change to
EMR and EHR. New nurses might find the change is not difficult. However, for older nurses that are
used to charting might find the change to electronic charting difficult. Another disadvantage of the
EMR and EHR is the

Ergot Poisoning Essay
In 1762, there were several documented deaths that were attributed to ergot poisoning from
contaminated grain. A farm laborer s wife and six children died after suffering terrible symptoms such
as blackened and rotting limbs. In 1951 in Pont Saint Esprit, France, there was another such episode in
which either ergot or LSD was implicated. In this small village, dozens of people suffered violent
delusions requiring restraints and hospitalization. Five people died. At first, this outbreak was
considered related to a possible fungal infection of local grain, but later evidence showed that it could
have been connected to something far more sinister. According to an article from BBC News, a
document from a CIA agent implied that the village may have suffered from a public test of LSD that
was produced in Sandoz Chemical, a few hundred kilometers away. Despite the violent symptoms
associated with ergot poisoning, the substance has been used medicinally. It has been used to treat
migraines and Parkinson s disease, and to induce abortion. To generate ergot for medicinal purposes

The Discovery Of The Marshmallow Test
Can our childhood determine the amount of success we will have in our lives? This is what
psychologist Walter Mischel wanted to find out in his experiment called The Marshmallow Test he
started this experiment in the early 1970s. What he did was give preschoolers a marshmallow and told
them if they waited fifteen minutes without eating it then he would give them two. Later research
found that the children who waited were more successful, but did this test really determine that the
children would be more successful than those who failed? The children who waited showed delayed
gratification and those who couldn t resist did not. Mischel followed these preschoolers until they
were grown up and he found that they were very successful and able to have self control. This
experiment proves delayed gratification and how the children who waited became more successful in
life, but recent studies prove that this test could just be a result in strategic reasoning. A marshmallow
doesn t seem like a big deal, except to preschoolers who will do anything for a piece of candy. To me
it seems that any preschooler would fail this testing, because they are young and don t have too much
patience. It turns out though, that there are many preschoolers that will wait because they are smart
enough to know that two is better than one. The children who passed this test, have shown that they
are capable of delayed gratification. Delayed gratification is when someone gives up a small reward

Importance Of Proofs Of Teaching Mathematical Proofs
For many math students around the world, proofs are dreaded; they are seen as pointless memorization
of obvious ideas. These are most student s beliefs because they have never truly been taught or
experienced the true purposes of proofs. Zaslavsky, Nickerson, Stylianides, Kidron, and Winicki
Landman (2012) write to discuss the importance of teaching mathematical proofs in school. They
continue on to express reasons why students need proofs and the multiple ways in which teachers can
facilitate the learning and importance of proofs to their students. Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite numerous
reasons for the importance of proofs, but the most prominent reasons include strengthening student s
ability to communicate mathematical knowledge, to instill problem solving skills and methods, and
lastly, to fulfill human intellectual needs. Each of these reasons have been supported by research, and
also come with challenges and concerns. The most basic reason Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite as to why
proofs should be taught in school is because doing so can increase and strengthen student s abilities to
communicate mathematical knowledge. Most students are more than capable of applying formulas and
solving the problems presented to them in classes with a little practice. A majority of these students,
however, have no clue as to why the methods they are using work, or if they will work with any set of
numbers they are presented (Yopp, 2009). Proof researcher David Yopp (2009) has observed

Essay about Lessons in Leadership in Demian
Lessons in Leadership in Demian
In Demian, Hesse uses a comparison to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel to convey his ideas about
those who are different. The idea arises again and again, causing the reader to look at it from a very
unique perspective. Through this comparison, the reader begins to see the mark of Cain as a positive
symbol as the mark of those who would lead the world into the future of mankind, without fear.
When Emil Sinclair first meets Max Demian, he sees that Demian is not like anyone he has ever
known. Unconsciously, he views Demian as having a mark something that sets him apart from the
others. Sinclair isn t sure if it is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is important in explaining how both Demian and Sinclair are so separate from the others: they
bear this metaphorical mark. This explains, also, the characters in the book toward which Sinclair is
drawn Frau Eva, Pistorius, Beatrice; all people whom are different from the herd. This notion of
superiority is supported constantly throughout the novel, but never quite so clearly as when Demian
demonstrates his inherently stronger will. He somehow scares Kromer, Sinclair s childhood tormentor,
away; he stares down the Confirmation class teacher in order to sit wherever he likes. Being so much
stronger and bolder than others, he is capable of exerting his will over theirs. This is a product of that
which his mark implies.
People such as these do, in fact, exist in the real world. They are not just creations of an imagination in
application to the Biblical tale of Cain and Abel. Though the difference in these stronger, perhaps
better, people is not quite so apparent in reality as in Demian, they do bear the same sort of mark.
These people are the ones who show no fear, who innovate and create without concern for the
standards of others. They write novels such as Demian and The Fountainhead; they sculpt statues like
the Madonna della Piet aacute;. They are wise, intelligent, and bold.

Essay On The Growth Of Gold Nanoclusters
Abstract: In this article, a facile and rapid method was developed to synthesize intensely
photoluminescent catalytic gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) based on etching small citrate capped gold
nanoparticles using 4,6 dimethyl 2 pyridineselenol 3 caronitrile and 4 Methylquinolineselenol 3
carbonitrile as models for organoselenium compounds. The size and the catalytic performance of the
prepared fluorescent nanoclusters were characterized using suitable Transmission Electron
Microscope (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry
(ESI MS) and photoluminescence techniques. It is shown that Au clusters with an average diameter of

In top down techniques, clusters are synthesized from larger nanoparticles or bulk metal. Etching of
nanoparticles using ligands (as thiols) is one of the most top down techniques can be used for the
synthesis of metal clusters. Removing the surface atoms or break the metal nanoparticles into smaller
clusters by using the etching capacity of such ligands will lead to synthesize stable quantum clusters.
For example, Habib et al. has used the etching of mercaptosuccinic acid protected gold nanoparticles
with excess glutathione to yield small photoluminescent gold clusters either with 8 or 25 gold atoms
[16]. Polyethylenimine as multivalent coordinating polymers can also be used to etch preformed
colloidal gold nanocrystals producing highly fluorescent nanoclusters [17]. it is well confirmed that
small noble metal nanoclusters display excellent catalytic activities such as aerobic oxidation of
thiophenol [18], propene epoxidation[19], oxidation of styrene [20], p nitrophenol reduction with
NaBH4 [21] and the reduction of methylene blue with hydrazine [22].
Organoselenium compounds are of considerable interest due to their wide efficiency and applicability
with numerous therapeutic applications [23]. In addition, the presence of a heterocyclic ring in these
compounds upgrades their properties to a great

Gary Soto Gary Soto is an author of many novels, short stories, and poetry. He was born and raised in
the U.S. by his Mexican American family. In his writings, he creates characters and settings influenced

characteristics of the Mexican American people that he became familiar with growing up. Growing up
Soto s life at home wasn t ideal and he never had high hopes for it. Soto s family was Mexican

Soto is the poet of the Chicano experience, but his view of that people is not hopeful. He shows their
condition to be one of hard work with few rewards. (Sullivan). Most Mexican Americans had
laborious jobs. Soto s father and grandfather both worked blue collar jobs and he thought he would be
doomed to the same life. In one of his essays, Gary Soto writes that as a child, he had imagined he
would marry Mexican poor, work Mexican hours, and in the end die a Mexican death, broke and in
despair. (Lee). Here he describes Mexican life as an undesirable one. The despair he came to know as
a child shows up a lot in his work as seen in his short story Sorry, Wrong Family . The main character,
Carolina finds the world an unpleasant place to live. The world, she realized, was a sad place when
from a few feet away trash could fool someone who walked in beauty. (Soto 41). This line from the
story describes the moment where after asking for help she receives a small amount of hope, but puts
herself back down rather quickly. Soto s view of these people comes from his own experiences.
Recently, Soto attended his junior high school reunion, and he was disheartened to learn how many of
his childhood friends had ended up in prison or been killed. (Lee). The world he grew up in painted
the Chicano life as a lesser one.

The Fifth Of May By Francisco De Goya
Gladis Flores
Humanities 1101 The Third of May Francisco De Goya was born on March 30 about 1746 in Fuentes
de todos, Spain. He studied painting from age 14. He became a court painter to the Spanish Crown in
1786 and the early portion of his career. Goya was considered one of the most crucial Spanish artists
of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Francisco married Josefa Bayeu y Subías.The couple had
only one child; he received the name of Xavier. One of the most recognized paintings was the Third of
May in 1808. The third of May, is one of the greatest testament to the honors of the war ever painted
(Discovering the humanities page. 405) The oil canvas painting is shocking since it shows a terrible
moment in the Spanish war versus French army. The French army invaded the Spanish, putting them
in a line and they started to shoot, not asking questions just shooting. This painting is very
controversial, because in the picture the very first thing that we can see are the terrifying faces of the

Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film A significant challenge for architects today is creating a balance
between preserving original, historic buildings, and creating functional additions for them. Additions
play a very important role in structures today; serving to work with what already exists while
accommodating changing functional requirements and aesthetic tastes. They seek to maintain the
original building s character, while becoming compatible with new design. The Vogelstein Center for

Prior to the addition, Ferry House challenged Vassar s preexisting architectural notions, being the first
modern building of its kind. In relation to surrounding buildings, Sanders Physics and Main Building,
Ferry is a misfit. However, upon completion of the Vogelstein addition, this section of campus was
transformed. The dark and light gray striped pattern addition fares well with the white painted brick of
Ferry House. The varying width of these stripes is representative of the contemporary nature the
architect was trying to further, similar to the rectangular shapes present on Ferry. Vogelstein s stark
burnt orange overhang again mirrors the style of Ferry building. The concrete masonry stands out not
only against the façade, but also against Vassar s many other brick buildings. These two adjacent
buildings share a common courtyard, known as the Frances Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, a venue for
outdoor theatrics. This minimalist courtyard serves to create a flow between the two buildings. This
addition meets demands for modernization, relatable to the Loeb Art Center and the upcoming science
facility on the opposite side of campus. These buildings work together to bring a contemporary mix to

`` Tobacco Road `` By Erskine Caldwell
Flaws can Define a Person
How can a single word chose a person s actions and dramatically change their life? In Erskine
Caldwell s Tobacco Road the Lester family goes through a lot in a one week span. Through the
struggles with poverty and barely surviving life. This family shows that the wants are much more
profitable in the long hall. As the story continues, a tragic reality check come upon this Lester family.
In Tobacco Road, Caldwell illustrates how both poverty and lust causes conflict based on the choices
one makes in an attempt to make life better.
Poverty is a lifestyle that can be changed by simply the choices one makes. Toward the end of chapter
seven the narrator talks about Jeeter s life and how he came to inherit the land of the Tobacco Road.
Caldwell states that by the time Jeeter was old enough to work in the fields, the land had become such
a great item of expense that most of it was allowed to grow up into pines (86). Since Jeeter took on
this huge project of running his own cotton farm. He might knew that since his grandfather started it
and then was passed down to his father and then onto him, he was obligated to continue on the Lester
tradition of farming. As a child Jeeter knew he always wanted to keep the farm alive and continue the
production of cotton coming from the Lester farm land. With working a farm and trying to put food on
the table was a difficult task that he could not rise and meet the challenge. As time went on Jeeter
hated that he could

from high school need one last get together before the end of the semester. Yes, the end of the
semester is not for another 2 months, but many of my friends go to a variety of different colleges
which means many different weeks of spring break. I realized that this would be our last chance
together so let s go home this weekend and get together. We ran with the idea. We all found ways back
home and our plan was to get together that Friday night. I looked forward to that Friday night all
week, but when that Friday night came it was all ruined by a guy that would do anything to never be
unfair to someone on purpose. On February 7th around 8 o clock or so me and my roommates were
eating dinner discussing spring break. We talked about when our spring break was and how it was
going to be way different since many of our buddies go to different colleges and have separate spring
break dates. As we talked dates I realized that our spring break was a week before all my other
buddies spring breaks were. This is the reason upon deciding to have a get together later that week. I
immediately sent out a text to one of my good buddies Jackson. Jackson has a garage that is fully
renovated therefore it is our primary hang out spot. We talked about if it was a good idea and if we
could stay in the garage that Friday night. All went well that entire week. Me and my five other
buddies all found

Alexander the Great
In Alexander the Great by Philip Freeman, Alexander was portrayed as a clean shaved man with lean
cheeks, square jaw, and had a fierce look of determination. He was born in July during the year 356
B.C. and was the son of Philip and Olympias. (page 3)
From the day Alexander could walk, he started his training in war. (page 18) He was involved in
sword play, archery and horsemanship. Alexander had many tutors who taught him different subjects,
including reading, writing and the healing arts. According to Freeman, by the end of his training in the
healing arts, he could treat wounds and prescribe medicine to men. (page 26)
When Alexander was sixteen Philip handed Alexander the royal seal ring granting him to rule. (page

Why write another book about Alexander the Great when there is hundreds available? Freeman s

Universal Music Group
The music industry has dramatically changed over the past years. What used to be a lucrative industry
in which musicians and recording labels relied on each other to create and distribute successful music
has seen much change throughout their business model. Beginning in 2005, with various new ways
musicians can create and distribute their music evolving the Universal Music Group record label were
at the forefront in their endeavor to capitalize on these new means. Already dealing with numerous
changes within the music industry throughout the years, this digital movement gave recording labels
yet another challenge to attempt to overcome. Since the incarnation of the recording industry, labels

This is evident in the use of digital technology to create and distribute music as it entered the music
industry only a few years ago as a simpler mean for musician s to get their music to fans cutting out
the recording labels. Although at this time it is still a small market compared to recording labels, I
believe eventually sometime in the future with proper improvements and investments it can become
the leader of the music industry and eliminate record label companies. I find it intriguing that a well
known and successful company in Universal Music Group has made the decision to implement a
secondary way they can profit from the digital creation movement. To me, it seems as if they are
aware of the threat this innovation causes and are preparing for a time when they get dethroned as the
leader of creating and distributing music for musician s. So although digital creation of music may not
completely be a disruptive innovation as of yet since it has not become the leader of music creation I
believe it fits the bill as a future disruptive

Analysis Of Victoria s Secret Fashion Shows
Fashion shows, media influences, and the modeling industry has shaped our society to aspire to
physical features that are considered beautiful. Being a skinny, toned, and confident it girl has been
advertised extensively as perfect and desirable during our current time period. While this may be
considered a healthy fitness goal to achieve, companies publicize this value to an extreme in hopes of
raising sales. A business that is well known for the abuse of this ideal body image is Victoria s Secret.
Over the years, Victoria s Secret has promoted their models, better known as Angels, who appear to be
representing a very small portion of the population in terms of body shape. This has become an
intense debate amongst fans and critics, resulting in severe issues regarding social media, health, and
financial gains.
Natalie Reilly approached this topic after the 2017 Shanghai Victoria s Secret Fashion Show aired.
Reilly brings her article to attention when she specifically states that the ability to strut, almost naked,
in spindly heels, is for a coterie of chosen models, the lingerie equivalent of winning an Oscar (2017).
Additionally, Reilly claims that this modeling opportunity is infused somehow with the zealous
pageantry of an ice skating routine (2017). While enthusiasts may beg to differ with these facts ,
Reilly makes a strong rationalization using the controversial post by plus sized model, Ashley
Graham. Prior to the Victoria s Secret Fashion Show, Graham made it clear that she had finally got her
Angel wings, dissing the business on her six million followers platform. Graham s testimony through
the internet helps support Rielly s viewpoint by demonstrating that even top models in the field
disagree with the Angel image.
The issue of body image in relation to Victoria s Secret models could be better defined by the
impractical measurements which the models are required to maintain. Runway models strive to
achieve a 34 inch hip, 24 inch waist, and a 32 inch bust through extreme self starvation. Popular diets
include the tapeworm diet, the cigarette diet, and the lemon cleanse diet. Another extreme case of
weight loss is the consumption of cotton balls to help attain a feeling of a full stomach

Essay Laws against the Paparazzi Frenzy
Imagine yourself rich and famous, living the modern American Dream. Now, imagine constantly
being stalked by a herd of random strangers bombarding you with cameras. Over the years, the
paparazzi have sought scandals from celebrities in order to receive money. In the process, they have
stripped thousands of celebrities from their privacy rights. According to the 2006 blog, The Digital
Paparazzi , there have been 1,360 different events between the years of 1999 and 2010 involving the
intrusive photographers (Sim and Adcock, n.p.). They have caused numerous headaches, injuries, and

The other bill clarified a stronger interpretation of stalking. They were created to eliminate
surveillance that is viewed as a threat. Arguing that the bills go way too far to prohibit lots of conduct
that is legitimate news gathering, Assemblyman Donald Wagner opposes against the legislation.
Viewing the bills as a threat to the First Amendment, Wagner and other Republican lawmakers voted
against them (Pedroncelli, n.p.). Many people do outrageous things to successfully get a job
accomplished, but majority of the paparazzi use unethical tactics. To get a valuable picture of a
celebrity, paparazzi often create unnecessary chaos. For instance, a paparazzo purposely put himself in
front of Lindsay Lohan s moving vehicle in order to get a dramatic story from it. Needless to say,
about 41% of the paparazzi make up a story to go along with the photo. During desperate measures,
another paparazzo has set off the fire alarm to get their target to exit a building. Paparazzi even fight
each other to get the most valuable picture. As long as the most profitable picture is captured,
paparazzi care less about who gets hurt in the process, whether it is a pedestrian and/or the celebrities
themselves. Risking their own safety, paparazzi will even climb buildings or stow away in trees. The
most popular incident in this case was Jennifer Aniston s topless picture taken by a paparazzo

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs In The Movie, The Blind Side
In this video clip from the movie, The Blind Side, Leigh Anne (Sandra Bullock) tries to motivate
Michael (Quinton Aaron) while playing football. The levels exemplified in Maslow s Hierarchy of
Needs here are safety and security needs, belongingness, self actualization, and cognitive.
Firstly, Michael shows motivation through safety and security because he was told to think about
defending his teamates just as if he would defend Leigh Anne and her young son he cares a lot about.
Through belongingness, Michael works hard in practice in ordor to please Leigh Anne, his coach, and
his teamates so they can win together as a team. Michael also has self actualization when he begins to
defend his quarterback and teamates only after Leigh Anne motivates him. She tells Michael that he
can defend his teamates just like he defends her family. By telling him this, he realizes his self worth
and what he needs to do in order to help his team win. Lastly, this clip shows motivation through a

Case Title : NLRB on behalf of Mrs. Dawn vs. American Medical Response of Connecticut Company
Case number: 34 CA 012576 Date Opened: 01/19/2010 Status: closed Presentation of the Case The
case filed by NLRB was between the American Medical Response of Connecticut in New Haven and
one of their employees called Mrs. Dawn. Upon verbal disagreement with her supervisor, Mrs. Dawn
posted a negative remark on her private facebook wall about the supervisor. The remark attracted
comments from her staff mates. On reporting to work the following day, she was suspended and later
fired. The company argued that her act was a violation of their internet policy by criticizing her
overseer online. The Hartford NLRB office filed a complaint of unlawful dismissal of Mrs. Dawn
stating that the party was involved in protected concerted activity on Facebook at the time when she
criticized her senior. In addition, NLRB identified several unlawful provisions within the company s
manual of conduct. However, before hearing, the company opted for an out of court settlement with
Mrs. Dawn besides revising their unlawful provisions in their handbook. Rationale of the NLRB
Decision I agree with NLRB s decision since Dawn activity can be classified as a concerted activity.
Reflectively, a concerted activity is that which involves an employee expressing views t other
employees with the intention of either criticizing or suggesting an alternative response to mistreatment
at place of work.

Pros And Cons Of Health Care Reform
Introduction: The topic of discussion is the fairness of an individual mandated to purchase health
insurance. It was one of the most argumentative subjects in U.S. politics: the federal health care law s
requirement that everybody has health insurance or pays a fine. Supporters of this debate, argue that it
s fundamental to make health care more affordable and available to everyone.
Those against the mandate say a law that forces people to purchase anything, as well as health
insurance, disturbs promises of personal freedom protected by the Constitution. Opponents say, it also
makes health care more expensive and ineffective.

In the second article, Michael F. Cannon argues no: premiums will rise according to his article asking
should everyone be required to have health insurance. He even tells us if the mandate were
constitutional; it would still be a bad idea. Some of his reasoning s for this is not a good plan is that
the mandate will increase premiums. The mandate s greatest fabrication is the idea that it promotes
personal responsibility. He explains that supporters want a mandate so it can keep them from being
responsible. Here s how this will happen, by the federal law promotion of irresponsibility by allowing
healthy people to wait until they get sick to buy coverage. He argues this is selfishness forcing others
to bear the cost of ones decision.
I believe in the importance for each American to have the option for health insurance. As a nurse, I
have seen many cases of people that did not seek medical attention due to they could not afford health
care. I believe that I should support article #1 in regards to health care and it should be available and
affordable to all citizens. The Affordable Care Act is meant to address a lack of access and high costs.
The requirement of health insurance is not only fair, but it is desperately

INTRODUCTION
A Foreign Direct Investment is basically an ownership in a business in a country by a totally different
country. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a very important role in the development of a nation.
All countries need FDI s but in the case of underdeveloped or developing nations FDI is one of the
most important aspect, as this kind of investment is required to help sustain the growth of the
economy. This inturn helps improving the balance of payments and also helps in generating
employment in the country. FDI also helps to improve productivity and use the available resourecs to
the maximum.
FDI in INDIA : FDI in India plays a very important role. Foreign Investments have been existant since
the time East India Company had settled itself in India, however due to non existance of data the same

profitable just to them. After Independence foreign investment was considered as a medium to bring in
advanced technology and resources that were not available in India. However the gulf war in the early

One Crime Policy Essay
The one crime policy that is important for the criminal justice system today is substance abuse in
America. This problem has plagued the criminal justice system in America for a long period and it has
continued to be a thorn in the side of all parts of the criminal justice system. To fix this their need is a
need for substance abuse treatment, which helps in the transition from the criminal justice system. The
main reason this policy is important for the criminal justice system is to stop the problem from the
source with regard to families and drug patterns that go from generation to generation.
First, the strict policy on substance abuse dates back to the formal declaration of the war on drugs by
the president of the united states Richard Nixon. In 1971 Nixon s formal declaration of war on drugs
deliberately linked urban crime control to the suburban marijuana subculture by portraying narcotics
pushers and heroin addiction as universal threats (Lassiter, M. D). Nixon and his administrators were

Essay On Life Insurance
INSURANCE BUSINESS PRE NATIONALISATION
2.1.1 The Concept of Insurance The entire modern world process has to face numerous risks and
uncertainties. Thus in business, as in private life, there are dangers and risks of every kind. The
concept of risk may be explained as the possibility of unfavourable results following from any
occurrence. In a dynamic and free economy and life such risks are inevitable. The risk may mean that
there is a possibility of loss or damage. It may or may not happen. When an event is stated to be
possible, it has a possibility between zero and one, it is neither impossible not definite. The degree of
risk may or may not be measurable. To the ordinary man in the street „risk‟ means exposure to danger.
But at the same time in insurance practice risk is also used for peril or loss producing events. For
example, it is said that insurance covers the risks of fire, explosion, cyclone, flood etc. Here the risks
refer to the subject matter of insurance. Any risk contingent upon these may be insured against a
premium commensurate with the risk involved. Thus a collective bearing of risk is insurance.
Insurance, whether life or non life, provides people with reasonable degree of security and assurance
that they will be protected in the event of a calamity or failure of any sort.
According to Life Insurance Corporation of India, risk may be defined as, Risk is a condition where
there is a possibility of an adverse deviation from a desired outcome

Examples Of Foreign Affairs During The Gilded Age
Foreign Affairs
The Gilded age was a time when the United States was thriving, and it seemed like everything was
going good on the outside, but it was truly corrupt and full of unacceptable people on the inside. This
age lasted from 1876 1900, it was a time when many people saw the U.S. also thrive with innovation,
mass imagination, and territorial expansion. There were several presidents during the Gilded Age,
which were Ulysses S. Grant, Ruther B. Hayes, James Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland,
Benjamin Harrison, and William McKinley. All these presidents were an asset that contributed to the
growth of the United States during this age. For example, Rutherford B. Hayes signed the acquisition

Grant was a foreign affair that made the Presidents during the Gilded Age succeed. Even though Grant
proposed the plan he did not think it would be an affair that the U.S. could gain something from, but
after all he was wrong. The Panama Canal proposal was made in 1881 and the U.S. government saw
this as an asset for the nation to establish foreign connections. The canals purpose was to prove to
other nations that the U.S. was now evolving and not following the usual domination that the
European countries used. Their territorial expansions were more of helping other countries and

Lack of Order in Albert Camus The Stranger (The Outsider) and Jean Paul Sartre s Nausea
Nausea, by Jean Paul Sartre, and The Stranger, by Albert Camus, refuse to impose order on their
events by not using psychology, hierarchies, coherent narratives, or cause and effect. Nausea refuses to
order its events by not inscribing them with psychology or a cause for existence, and it contrasts itself
with a text by Balzac that explains its events. Nausea resists the traditional strategy of including the
past to predict a character s future. It instead focuses on the succession of presents, which troubles
social constructions such as stories and adventure. The Stranger resists traditional categories of order

the living dropped to their knees and began praying for salvation from a vengeful God while the
remainder took up arms to survive. The Rising, an event the Church has compared on occasion to the
End Times, established a new prejudice for the unnatural, resulting in controversial changes in
governmental politics and ideas to protect or segregate the newly Risen from the living. However, due
to the supernatural circumstances of the Rising, the Church arguably provided better support for

for the living, even naming Bill Macy as the Shepherd of Roarton to offer its official support to the

stability and order when the outside world was falling to ruin. And it is because of this support that
Roarton s affairs are usually dealt with by the Parish council even after the Rising had passed and
everything was returning to some semblance of normalcy. Having guided Roarton through the

Hashimoto s Disease Case Study
Hashimoto s disease also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease that
causes hypothyroidism. An autoimmune disease is a disease that stems from an irregular response
from the immune system to attack the patient s own cells specifically those in the thyroid gland. In
Hashimoto s disease the antibodies actually attack and destroy cells of the thyroid gland. This
destruction leads to a drop in the production of the triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). When the
body detects the decreased production of T3 and T4 it begins to try to correct the imbalance and
creates an increased production of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) from the hypothalamus

however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as well as

Essay On The Voting Rights Act
This act flows from a clear and simple wrong, its only purpose is to right that wrong. Millions of
Americans are denied the right to vote because of their color. This law will ensure them the right to
vote. The wrong is one which no American, in his heart, can justify. The right is one which no
American, true to our principles, can deny.... It is not just a question of guilt, although there is that. It
is that men cannot live with a lie and not be stained by it, said the president (Equal Citizenship and the
Individual Right to Vote). The Voting Rights Act was one of the most monumental laws in the entire
history of American freedom a law that, very exclusively, aimed to break down the legal barriers at the
state and local governments level of authority that prohibited African Americans from exercising their
constitutional right to vote.
Even with the passage of the Voting Rights Acts of 1965, states have tried to manipulate the use of
gerrymandering to gain selective partisan gain. Gerrymandering is ... Show more content on

Cox, the court ruled that states could not longer deviate from strict equality when redrawing
congressional lines because it was usually done to help a political party gain partisan support. Further,
the court also stated that states cannot intentionally reduce the votes of some citizens on the basis of
race because it violates the fourteenth and fifteenth amendment of the Constitution. This paved the
way for the beginning of majority minority districts. Under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, states
must create legislative districts in which racial minorities have the means to elect political candidates
of their own preference. Both matching slices and pack and crack assume that voters have fixed
political preferences that are unaffected by redistricting. Pack and crack assumes that those
preferences are dichotomous everyone is either a Democrat or a Republican (Reconsidering Racial

Istj Application Essay Example
ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual who
uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In the
workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with management that
does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership roles, so having
someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace, I feel like I get along
better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the floor and be myself more than
what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually one of a supervisor or department
manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees and upper management. Some people
seem to get their bonus points by congregating with managers in their offices, but I m more
comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work completed. Obviously, I can communicate
with upper management, but keep it strictly professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal
because I have been burned by them before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as
assistant managers under me for a period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then
that I could not have close friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate
work from social life, and discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time. Outside of
work,

  • 2. The Cost Of The Cadillac Tax Intentions of the Tax One of the primary goals of the Cadillac tax is to reduce the growing costs of national health care (Lowry 2015). The government is hopeful that implementation of the Cadillac tax will reduce overall health care expenditures and impede the growth of health care costs by encouraging a change in consumer behavior through discouraging the provision and obtainment of overly generous health coverage plans (Herring, 2011). Generally, individuals who are insured spend greater amounts on health care than those who are not as they can consume greater amounts of healthcare with a lesser personal burden. In the case that the insurance provided to an individual is overly generous, it encourages over spending on health care due to the fact that they incur a only a portion of costs of consumption. In this manner, the consumption of an inefficient amount of health care is perpetuated by the provision of overly generous health care coverage. This inefficiency and associated increase in demand for healthcare causes the price of healthcare to rise, which exacerbates the undesirable growth in national health care costs (Gravelle, 2015). The Cadillac tax aims to discourage the provision and obtainment of overly generous health care coverage by employers in an effort to decrease inefficient over consumption of health care and stagnate the growth in healthcare costs. The intent of the Cadillac tax is to alter consumer behavior to decrease the provision of unnecessarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. President Lincoln Analysis This film is directed by Robert Redford. This is the anecdote about the gathering of people who schemed with John Wilkes Booth to kill President Lincoln. A young fellow Frederick Aiken returns back to Washington, D.C. in the wake of battling in the Civil War on the Union side. He leaves the military to be a non military personnel legal counselor by and by, similar to he was before the war. He is gotten to know by a Senator from Virginia, Reverdy Johnson who is additionally a lawyer. The Senator requests that he safeguard a lady who is blamed for scheming, to murder President Lincoln, with John Wilkes Booth and other men who have been caught and are being held in prison. The lady Mary Sarratt holds enduring to her honesty, however the conditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He gets a common trial, not a military one, and can t be indicted by a jury of his associates. It is an ambivalent closure since it is sure his mom was far less blameworthy of connivance than he was. It isn t just a critical message for those new to our country s history, however is strikingly important to the present day in which several prisoners at Guantanamo still grieve in jail without trial, where a U.S. national, associated with fear monger exercises, is focused for a death endeavor without having been accused of, not to mention indicted, any wrongdoing, and where the perfect of due process and the assumption of blamelessness is gradually being supplanted by boundless brutality, the disavowal of lawfulness, and the undermining of majority rule government. Fascinating to me is putting aside any expected parallels with current undertakings and taking a gander at what The Conspirator shows us outside the universe of legislative issues. In times of war the law falls silent, prosecutor Joseph Holt says close to the finish of the film. • 7. A Brief Note On Internal Medicine And Nursing Essay People are my passion! I wake up each morning praying that I make a positive impact in someone s life. The value of my life lies not on personal achievement and possessions but on how profitable I have been to my neighbor and my world. This belief, no doubt has influenced my choice of career and specialty. Internal medicine is my number one specialty. I love this specialty because it provides me the opportunity to solve varied medical problems ranging from acute care to management of chronic disease. Just like solving a puzzle, an internist applies critical thinking, sound science in preventing, diagnosing and treating varied adult diseases. Internal Medicine is an ever evolving discipline and requires continuous and persistent updating of one s knowledge. This sits well with my massive appetite of reading. I enjoy the challenges the specialty presents. I love the fact that an internist provides consults to other physicians in disease diagnosis and work as primary care physician. The broad subspecialties in internal medicine match and exceeds my perception of a complete doctor. From a young age, my parents taught me to care and serve others. Although they had very little western education, my parents became successful business owners and community leaders largely due to hard work and dedicated service to people. They always told me that I could succeed in anything I choose to do. They understood the value of education and supported me in all my endeavors. My decision, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures. After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual observer they disconnection isn t obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A farm laborer s wife and six children died after suffering terrible symptoms such as blackened and rotting limbs. In 1951 in Pont Saint Esprit, France, there was another such episode in which either ergot or LSD was implicated. In this small village, dozens of people suffered violent delusions requiring restraints and hospitalization. Five people died. At first, this outbreak was considered related to a possible fungal infection of local grain, but later evidence showed that it could have been connected to something far more sinister. According to an article from BBC News, a document from a CIA agent implied that the village may have suffered from a public test of LSD that was produced in Sandoz Chemical, a few hundred kilometers away. Despite the violent symptoms associated with ergot poisoning, the substance has been used medicinally. It has been used to treat migraines and Parkinson s disease, and to induce abortion. • 13. The Discovery Of The Marshmallow Test Can our childhood determine the amount of success we will have in our lives? This is what psychologist Walter Mischel wanted to find out in his experiment called The Marshmallow Test he started this experiment in the early 1970s. What he did was give preschoolers a marshmallow and told them if they waited fifteen minutes without eating it then he would give them two. Later research found that the children who waited were more successful, but did this test really determine that the children would be more successful than those who failed? The children who waited showed delayed gratification and those who couldn t resist did not. Mischel followed these preschoolers until they were grown up and he found that they were very successful and able to have self control. This experiment proves delayed gratification and how the children who waited became more successful in life, but recent studies prove that this test could just be a result in strategic reasoning. A marshmallow doesn t seem like a big deal, except to preschoolers who will do anything for a piece of candy. To me it seems that any preschooler would fail this testing, because they are young and don t have too much patience. It turns out though, that there are many preschoolers that will wait because they are smart enough to know that two is better than one. The children who passed this test, have shown that they are capable of delayed gratification. Delayed gratification is when someone gives up a small reward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Importance Of Proofs Of Teaching Mathematical Proofs For many math students around the world, proofs are dreaded; they are seen as pointless memorization of obvious ideas. These are most student s beliefs because they have never truly been taught or experienced the true purposes of proofs. Zaslavsky, Nickerson, Stylianides, Kidron, and Winicki Landman (2012) write to discuss the importance of teaching mathematical proofs in school. They continue on to express reasons why students need proofs and the multiple ways in which teachers can facilitate the learning and importance of proofs to their students. Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite numerous reasons for the importance of proofs, but the most prominent reasons include strengthening student s ability to communicate mathematical knowledge, to instill problem solving skills and methods, and lastly, to fulfill human intellectual needs. Each of these reasons have been supported by research, and also come with challenges and concerns. The most basic reason Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite as to why proofs should be taught in school is because doing so can increase and strengthen student s abilities to communicate mathematical knowledge. Most students are more than capable of applying formulas and solving the problems presented to them in classes with a little practice. A majority of these students, however, have no clue as to why the methods they are using work, or if they will work with any set of numbers they are presented (Yopp, 2009). Through this comparison, the reader begins to see the mark of Cain as a positive symbol as the mark of those who would lead the world into the future of mankind, without fear. He somehow scares Kromer, Sinclair s childhood tormentor, away; he stares down the Confirmation class teacher in order to sit wherever he likes. Etching of nanoparticles using ligands (as thiols) is one of the most top down techniques can be used for the synthesis of metal clusters. For example, Habib et al. has used the etching of mercaptosuccinic acid protected gold nanoparticles with excess glutathione to yield small photoluminescent gold clusters either with 8 or 25 gold atoms [16]. Polyethylenimine as multivalent coordinating polymers can also be used to etch preformed colloidal gold nanocrystals producing highly fluorescent nanoclusters [17]. it is well confirmed that small noble metal nanoclusters display excellent catalytic activities such as aerobic oxidation of thiophenol [18], propene epoxidation[19], oxidation of styrene [20], p nitrophenol reduction with NaBH4 [21] and the reduction of methylene blue with hydrazine [22]. • 26. Analysis Of Victoria s Secret Fashion Shows Fashion shows, media influences, and the modeling industry has shaped our society to aspire to physical features that are considered beautiful. Being a skinny, toned, and confident it girl has been advertised extensively as perfect and desirable during our current time period. While this may be considered a healthy fitness goal to achieve, companies publicize this value to an extreme in hopes of raising sales. A business that is well known for the abuse of this ideal body image is Victoria s Secret. Over the years, Victoria s Secret has promoted their models, better known as Angels, who appear to be representing a very small portion of the population in terms of body shape. This has become an intense debate amongst fans and critics, resulting in severe issues regarding social media, health, and financial gains. Natalie Reilly approached this topic after the 2017 Shanghai Victoria s Secret Fashion Show aired. Reilly brings her article to attention when she specifically states that the ability to strut, almost naked, in spindly heels, is for a coterie of chosen models, the lingerie equivalent of winning an Oscar (2017). Additionally, Reilly claims that this modeling opportunity is infused somehow with the zealous pageantry of an ice skating routine (2017). While enthusiasts may beg to differ with these facts , Reilly makes a strong rationalization using the controversial post by plus sized model, Ashley Graham. Prior to the Victoria s Secret Fashion Show, Graham made it clear that she had finally got her Angel wings, dissing the business on her six million followers platform. Graham s testimony through the internet helps support Rielly s viewpoint by demonstrating that even top models in the field disagree with the Angel image. The issue of body image in relation to Victoria s Secret models could be better defined by the impractical measurements which the models are required to maintain. Runway models strive to achieve a 34 inch hip, 24 inch waist, and a 32 inch bust through extreme self starvation. Popular diets include the tapeworm diet, the cigarette diet, and the lemon cleanse diet. Another extreme case of weight loss is the consumption of cotton balls to help attain a feeling of a full stomach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Needless to say, about 41% of the paparazzi make up a story to go along with the photo. During desperate measures, another paparazzo has set off the fire alarm to get their target to exit a building. Paparazzi even fight each other to get the most valuable picture. As long as the most profitable picture is captured, paparazzi care less about who gets hurt in the process, whether it is a pedestrian and/or the celebrities themselves. Risking their own safety, paparazzi will even climb buildings or stow away in trees. The most popular incident in this case was Jennifer Aniston s topless picture taken by a paparazzo ... Upon verbal disagreement with her supervisor, Mrs. Dawn posted a negative remark on her private facebook wall about the supervisor. The remark attracted comments from her staff mates. On reporting to work the following day, she was suspended and later fired. The company argued that her act was a violation of their internet policy by criticizing her overseer online. The Hartford NLRB office filed a complaint of unlawful dismissal of Mrs. Dawn stating that the party was involved in protected concerted activity on Facebook at the time when she criticized her senior. In addition, NLRB identified several unlawful provisions within the company s manual of conduct. However, before hearing, the company opted for an out of court settlement with Mrs. Dawn besides revising their unlawful provisions in their handbook. • 35. Essay On Life Insurance INSURANCE BUSINESS PRE NATIONALISATION 2.1.1 The Concept of Insurance The entire modern world process has to face numerous risks and uncertainties. Thus in business, as in private life, there are dangers and risks of every kind. The concept of risk may be explained as the possibility of unfavourable results following from any occurrence. In a dynamic and free economy and life such risks are inevitable. The risk may mean that there is a possibility of loss or damage. It may or may not happen. When an event is stated to be possible, it has a possibility between zero and one, it is neither impossible not definite. The degree of risk may or may not be measurable. To the ordinary man in the street „risk‟ means exposure to danger. But at the same time in insurance practice risk is also used for peril or loss producing events. For example, it is said that insurance covers the risks of fire, explosion, cyclone, flood etc. Here the risks refer to the subject matter of insurance. Any risk contingent upon these may be insured against a premium commensurate with the risk involved. Thus a collective bearing of risk is insurance. Insurance, whether life or non life, provides people with reasonable degree of security and assurance that they will be protected in the event of a calamity or failure of any sort.
