1. Analyze
What is the learning need? The main need for this learning is to subject employees to training on how to manage cyber threats within the organization. The rate of cyber threats has increased, and therefore it is important to develop proactive measures to protect the organization (Ross, 2019).
Who are your learners? What are their backgrounds? What do they already know? My learners are the organization’s employees. They understand their responsibilities within the organization. For instance, they know it is their duty to ensure they have achieved the organization's objectives.
What do the learners need to know? Summarize the content of your training program. Employees will get to know dozens of things at the end of this training. First, they will know the main cyber threats the organization is likely to face. Secondly, they will learn how to prevent these threats from occurring (Ross, 2019). For example, they will learn how to examine software and determine whether viruses infect them, install firewalls in the computer system, and store data in the cloud, among others.
Delivery/Resources/Timeline. What is the delivery method? What resources will you need? What is your timeline? There are two strategies I will use to deliver the training. The first method is a physical interview whereby I will interact with the trainees. Secondly, I will use virtual training for those who cannot attend a physical interview. In order to deliver the interview, resources such as internet connection, computers, and writing materials (Ross, 2019). The training program will run for one week.
2. Design
Outcomes. At the end of the training, the learners will be able to: 1) run antivirus software in the computer system to detect whether viruses have infected the system. 2) Develop antivirus software. 3) Install a firewall in the system in order to prevent unauthorized access. 4) Update computer software (Ross, 2019).
Instructional methods. Describe activities and how learners will engage with the material: learners will engage with training resources through practicing using computers. For example, they will use computers to develop firewall software which they will later install in the system to enhance the system's security.
Assessment: What can the learners do/show/present/submit to show they have learned the content? There are several things that learners will do to show they have learned the content. Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

FOSS, “is a concept and practice of making program source code
openly available to everyone to use it”
Free Software and Open Source Software (OSS) are relatively similar,
they are only differing in terms of license mode used, and the use of
software after developed for sharing, modification and redistribution

like adding some new features to suite their local needs.

The information technology (IT) program of CAS offers four different
specializations: Software Development, IT Security and Networking.
All the courses designed with a considerable percentage of practical and
training works, which are carried out by using the proprietary software.
Students depend on the institution for software installation and up
gradation.
CAS needs to plan for the budget to purchase the necessary licenses
for the students and they still don’t have the rights to copy, modify,
or redistribute the software without royalty or additional cost.

Unfortunately most of these tools are proprietary, results in

and modifying the source code.

Promote awareness on FOSS and evaluate outcome.

STRATEGIC AREA I
The SAI includes the FOSS technical plan and formation of
monitoring committee.
A FOSS plan was developed with different activities along with clear
deadlines and responsibility of each member of the committee by
considering the primary objective of migration from the proprietary
software to FOSS for all the courses of IT program.
A phased approach was utilized to identify the FOSS tools starts
from the foundation year courses to the specialized courses.
The monitoring committee ensured the positive movement towards
identifying the FOSS suitability

The SAII includes the development of policies and guidelines by the
monitoring committee for adopting the FOSS tools and software.
The policy includes: the level of FOSS usage, the security issues and
other legal complications need to be addressed.

Awareness campaigns should be conducted through various social
media, workshop and classrooms trainings.

The SAIV includes the FOSS promotion, identifying stakeholders and
evaluation of outcome.
The monitoring committee, educators and students are responsible for
the FOSS promotion.
Educators can promote the usage of FOSS tools by using them in their
labs works, assignments and projects.
Students can promote the usage of FOSS by adopting them in their
learning activities.
The monitoring committee promotes the FOSS usage by conducting
various awareness programs.
Identifying the stakeholders and their technical knowledge and
guidelines utilized in identifying the FOSS suitability of CAS.

In the FOSS suitability identification process, through the discussion
and interview with the educators and based on the outcome from
the other stakeholders, the suitable FOSS software for all the
courses is listed out.
The target of 80 percentage of match was fixed by the monitoring
committee; any tool which reaches the target was selected to
replace the existing proprietary software.

16. 6. Conclusion
Several feasibilities to implement FOSS in the IT program of CAS
were analyzed by using alternative educational framework as a
reference model.
Various strategic areas of the reference model; technical plan,
monitoring committee, trainers, awareness program, policies and
guidelines, promotions, stakeholders and evaluation are highly
considered while identifying FOSS suitability.
As a result, a list of alternative FOSS tools and software were
identified for the courses of various specializations of IT program.

By adopting the recommended FOSS tools and software, CAS might
extremely benefit from the copy right issues, low cost software and
availability of source code for learners.
The student community of CAS could be highly benefited with the
rising demand for the latest technology on the campus and sharing of
content may become simple without distressing about software
licensing.
Adoption of FOSS may also considerably reduce the budget of
software purchase, which directly contributes towards nation’s
economic growth.
It is highly recommended to form a committee for each specializations
to review and to amend the course outcomes of the IT program of CAS
relevant to the availability of FOSS tools. 17
