Essay on Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or...
Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or Addictive Nightmare
Methamphetamine has reclaimed a place in the lexicon of party drugs. Hailed by nocturnal
adventurers, condemned by raver idealists, is speed a sleepless dream or an addictive nightmare?
Here at the end of the millennium, the pace of modern life seems fleeting a whirl of minutes, hours
and days. In dealing with the changes, humans have equipped themselves with the tools to move
faster, more efficiently. At the same time a dependence for the marketing, high speed transportation
and pharmacology of this modern age has evolved. In a race to outdo ourselves, we have moved
dangerously toward the fine line between extinction and evolution. Therefore, the human ... Show

The hyperreality of today goes hand in hand with the drugs being administered.
It s 6 a.m. Around the speaker bins are small packs of animated dancers grinding their feet into the
floor and shaking their hands in front of them. The lookie loos and weekend warriors have long since
gone home. Absent from their faces are the smiles of midnight, replaced by the blank, vacant stare of
sleepless dreams.
They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing
lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has somehow
replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep
dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep.
A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed
the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some
reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an
amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to the quash of
young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from today s roster of
events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old schoolers have been
turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some were casualties
themselves of the drug s addictive nature. Others

Korematsu Versus the United States
In the landmark case of Korematsu v. United States the Supreme Court was correct in the ruling
because the executive order that was issued became a law to protect the country from persons that had
close ethnic ties to the enemy and made all people that the government deemed a threat to national
security into prisoners. Although this was against moral standards, it was a necessity at the time to
protect the country. While it may seem that it was just the Japanese that were prosecuted, it was also
Americans of German and Italian heritage that were also persecuted. This executive order infringed on
the rights of American citizens based on their ethnic background. This isn t right because as said in the
constitution everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The majority opinion in the ruling of Korematsu v. United States. The majority opinion in this case
was in favor of the United States. The court in this case argued that the executive order 9066

espionage and against sabotage to national defense material, national defense premises, and national
defense utilities....(illinois.edu) was legal because after the bombing of pearl harbor, the general

The Truman Show By Peter Weir
For centuries, man has dreamt of constructing pristine simulated worlds , existing in a separate sphere
from our imperfect reality. From the town of Pullman, a company town south of Chicago to Disney
World, attempts to force Utopia have failed, falling prey to the complications of people s personal
desires. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, tells us the story of The Truman Show, an elaborate
reality show built around the control of one man s life. Christof, the director, has created an entire
living city for Truman, the star of his show, and the only one not in on this whole elaborate fakery.
Essentially, Truman is living his life in the simulation of a flawless, archetypal American town, for the
entertainment of millions of viewers around the world. Christof, along with countless others obsessed
with the idea of controlling part of the world to fit their visions of an ideal reality, have deluded
themselves into thinking fictional utopias can exist apart from the undeniable constraints of reality.
Their fundamental flaw lies in relying on the assumptions of psychological behaviorism, and the belief
that they could perfectly condition the behavior of the inhabitants follow the goals of the community.
In order for Christof s scheme to work, Truman must be unaware that he s living in a simulation, and
be satisfied with the simulated life that s presented to him. As much as possible, Christof and his crew
try to control every element of Truman s life. A massive dome is

Persuasive Footballs In The Stadiums
Mitch Trubisky is a Franchise Quarterback
The Chicago Bears have found their future of their franchise. They are generally considered the
laughing stock of the league. They no longer deserve that reputation anymore though, they will soon
prove the haters wrong with their new franchise quarterback. With Mitch Trubisky at the helm of this
franchise they have what it takes to make a run for the championship. They call it Mitchmas, Merry
Mitchmas to all the Bears fans, Mitchapalooza, Mitch Magic etc. there is some serious hype around
the franchise now that number two overall pick of the 2017 draft is now slinging footballs for the
Chicago Bears. It sounds kind of dumb but the fact that Mitch Trubisky is playing alone brings the
hype for Bears fans. Fan support is actually a really big deal in the NFL. When the fans are invested in
the game they cheer louder and bring a sense of energy to the stadium, some might say the stadium
was electric. #10 on first NFL start: It was fun. It was Monday Night Football. The crowd was electric,
gotta thank them for coming out and really supporting us. 9:24 PM 9 Oct 2017 (Tweet)
(@ChicagoBears). As you can see that the stadium had a different feel with Trubisky under center and
that is actually a phenomenon, some NFL stadiums are harder to compete in than others. For example
everyone knows there is an added challenge while playing in Seattle. Picking between them is tough,
but I would say narrowly that the Seahawks have the best

Gogol Ganguli Quotes
For my parents generation, the idea was not that marriage was about some kind of idealized, romantic
love; it was a partnership. It s about creating family; it s about creating offspring. Aasif Mandvi. This
quote is an example of how Gogol Ganguli couldn t accept his parent s traditions and wanted to follow
his own ways. Gogol never accepted his past and it led to him not being happy with himself. As he
grew up he was introduced to the American ways and seemed to quickly embrace them. Although, on
the inside he was split into two different people. Gogol never attained true happiness because of his
ability to not fully accept his Indian culture. It s a struggle that is displayed through his whole life.

He is afraid to be Nikhil, someone he doesn t know. Who doesn t know him. (57). His parents make
him take the name of Nikhil as his good name, a name in the Indian culture that is used for
identification in the outside world (26). In his earlier years he has trouble with his name because he
thinks he doesn t need a good name. He just wants to be Gogol. It is as Nikhil that he loses his
virginity at a party at Ezra Stiles, with a girl wearing a plaid woolen skirt and combat boots and
mustard tights (105). Later in his life he starts to use his good name, Nikhil, and it seems he becomes a
new person and enjoys life. The truth is Gogol isn t enjoying life, Nikhil is. Without people in the
world to call him Gogol, no matter how long he himself lives, Gogol Ganguli will, once and for all,
vanish from the lips of loved ones, and so, cease to exist. Yet the thought of this eventual demise
provides no sense of victory, no solace. It provides no solace at all (289). After the divorce of his wife
and the death of his dad, he learns the importance of his name. This is a battle all his life. His name
makes him who he is and he never understood so he was never truly happy. His name didn t allow him
to be happy because he accept himself as

Sex Trafficking Is The Trade Of Humans Essay
Sex Trafficking Sex trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual
slavery, forced labor, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. This may
encompass providing a spouse in the context of forced marriage, or the extraction of organs or tissues,
including for surrogacy and ova removal.Sex trafficking is a very dangerous thing to be going on in
this world. Human trafficking can occur within a country or trans nationally. The Metro Atlanta area
ranks number one in sex trafficking.
HOW IT STARTED
Although human trafficking is being carried on from ancient times, there is very little information on
when did it start. So, when did human trafficking start? There is a mixed response to it. Some people
believe that human trafficking actually started in the 1700s when small children were exploited for
work. Debates raged for years among feminists about free and forced prostitution, and whether or not
all prostitution should be included in the definition of sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is horrible. Many
people believe that prostitution is apart of sex trafficking, it could be in a way, but also it is not.
Prostitution the women are willingly selling their bodies and on the other hand sex trafficking the
women are being kidnapped or tricked into thinking they will be in a better lifestyle. WHO?
The sex trafficking industry is fueled by buyers who pay traffickers to supply victims to meet their
demand. Men,

Simple Man
The Life of a Simple Man was written by Emile Guillaumin, a former peasant going through many
changes in the 19th century Europe. He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just fifty years
before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant in France. At the
time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French peasants were not being
recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced. Around this time, the
industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that were occurring, including
the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural areas. This change gave
Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in people and their lively
hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives as new work arose and new
opportunities for what was thought of a better life. Guillaumin writes an excellent inside into
understanding how the nineteenth century French peasants lived. Here, this essay is mainly focused on
a couple of aspects regarding the book by Emile Guillaumin: The Life of a Simple Man. The first is
based on the Métayers otherwise known as sharecroppers. From what they were like, ... Show more

Adaptation was one of the most interested aspect at this time because of what was happening in the
rest of Europe. Like what was said before, Europe was undergoing their own industrial revolution
which dramatically changed farming and other jobs that turned a job into a chore. Not only did this
happen, but with moderation in the mist, factories rose alongside of cities. The idea was that many
want to have a stable job so they moved to the city from farmland to be able to have what seemed like

The Goal Setting Goals And Goals
Setting goals is an idea many people use to help accomplish tasks, and reach them in a certain amount
of time. Implementing plans in an effective step in the right direction toward accomplishing a desired
goal. Students, teachers, people in the work place; everyone sets goals whether we are aware of the
goal setting or subconsciously setting goals. Goals can be long term or short term depending on how
big the goal is. I, myself here at Marywood have set some goals. One long term and one short term.
My short term goal is to achieve a CSAC Championship with my soccer team this year. My long term
goal is to maintain at least a 3.3 GPA throughout my college career. I intend on using the core values
from here at Marywood to help me achieve my goals I have set. Three of the five values with
specifically help me in my case; empowerment respect and excellence will ultimately help me
maintain my goals and excel in life.
Empowerment is defined in the Marywood handbook as, access to education that enables all to
achieve their full potential to live as conscientious citizens in a pluralistic society. Though one of my
goals in not academic; I still believe that empowerment will allow me to fulfill my goal of obtaining a
CSAC Championship title this year for soccer. Every team wants to win their league, and my team and
I here at Marywood University are striving to win the league this year. To achieve my full access to
athletic potential to succeed I will work hard on and off the field.

Serial Killer Empathy Definition
Serial Killers, most people are curious about them. People tend to read or watch anything that
concerns serial killers. It is important to understand how serial killers become vicious individuals. It is
also important to know how their emotional state works or the lack there of empathy. Being able to tell
if empathy is something that they feel or whether it is an act through pure psychopathy. This will be
compared to crimes of passions to determine what level of empathy or psychopathy was felt. We have
a lot of information on criminals, who commit violent crimes, but studies on serial killers is lacking.

Although there are an increasingly number of literature when it comes to serial killers, but it would
appear that most of it is more based on the identification of the killer and the reasons why he or she
did it (2009). According to Bartels and Parsons, it is believed that there is a dominant understanding of
a serial killer that it has to do with a sexual fantasy role, which has to do with a role of sexual fantasy.
Fantasy is defined by Prentky et al. (1989: 889) as an elaborated set of cognitions (thoughts)
characterised by preoccupation (or rehearsal), anchored in emotions, and originating in daydreams
(Bartels and Parsons, 2009, 267 268), as well as them being involved in cognitions or images that are
sexually arousing (2009). This all goes back to an isolated sexual murder (Bartels and Parsons, 2009,
268), in 1885, the first emphasis on sexual fantasy was in 1957 by Reinhardt. Back then is what led to
the term sexual sadistic killer (Bartels and Parsons, 2009). In 1992 Ressler defined a true meaning of
what s the meaning to the term serial killer, that they have an obsession with fantasies of murder and
this leads them to repeat the crimes until they have successfully acted out these fantasies

Mary Wigman
Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should
incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they
had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which
was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and
mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two
different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as
represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that
were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on

She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy
and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances
looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed.
One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque
play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever
increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and
grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman
s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart
and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to
Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole
World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II
(1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important
figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite
extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they

KRONOS Book Review
An irrefutable quality of a strong leader is an unyielding desire to gain knowledge. Former President
John F. Kennedy himself stated that leadership and learning are indispensable to each other , which
can only further the argument of a necessity for a strong education system to develop a solid base
early in a student s life. Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings forth this debate and discussion in her
book KRONOS: All Devouring Federal Reserve , highlighting the profound implications of the
federal government s grip in the education system. In KRONOS , Amelia Arcamone Makinano wisely

Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings this issue to light in her extremely informative book KRONOS:
All Devouring Federal Reserve , where she speculates how this very problem has occurred for nearly
50 years in the United States. She juxtaposes many instances of great leadership and strong
educational reforms throughout moments in history, cementing her belief that the literacy of citizens
can be considerably beneficial to a country s success. Arcamone Makinano utilizes a structure of
example followed by analysis to further her arguments of the present day crisis of education, while
citing the main source of constant problems coming from the Federal Reserve Board, whose hold on
the education system has been depleting the strength of the American education system. Though a sign
of a good leader are the inclination to gain knowledge, the United States is losing its desire to gain

The Soviet Revolution Of Russia
Like the swing of a pendulum, the Tsars of Russia would fluctuate between reforming the government
and becoming reactionary to the situations in the land. The Russian Tsars/Tsarinas, considered
themselves the father or mother of the entire land and it was a very big land. Russian history had been
prone to revolutions. Many a Tsar found himself on the short end of a sword or just the right amount
of poison in his drink. All of the monarchs of Russia had this history in their minds when they began
to rule but as the parent of their nation, they had no choice but to rule and do the best they could.
Revolution was part of Russian life. There had been uprisings and revolutions throughout its history.
The 18th and 19th centuries saw a big push toward Westernizing the country but as long as there were
serfs; Russia could never truly be Western. The serfs were the biggest dilemma that the Tsars faced.
The happiness of a people can gauge whether a ruler stays in power or not. The majority of Russians
were serf peasants, dependent on their overlords for their bread and board. Their overlord was
dependent on the serfs, the Tsar dependent on the nobles for their devotion and taxes. Catherine the
Great, the Tsarina of Russia from 1762 to 1796 was considered an enlightened despot . She was a
student of the Enlightenment and ruled Russia with absolute devotion. Catherine was a patron of the

Age Of The Fetus Essay
Introduction The first and foremost thing here in this case study is that the age of the fetus is not clear
at all as it is told that Jessica finds herself pregnant six months before moving to their private quarters.
Later it is told that four months later that they went to the clinic. So there is a natural doubt when did
Jessica and Marco go to hospital for the tests? I proceed in this paper with an assumption that it is
after four months/seventeen weeks of her pregnancy that Jessica went to hospital.
The Theory / Theories The case is that of fetus abnormality where the fetus is seen in the scan as
deformed or specifically without arms and also a possibility of having Down syndrome. It is true that
the parents don t want such a child in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rarely were the rights of the prospective mother, much less the prospective child, taken into
consideration. Although generally legal, the morality of abortion, birth control and child abandonment
(as a form of infanticide) was sometimes discussed. Then, as now, these discussions often concerned
the nature of man, the existence of a soul, the beginning of life, and the beginning of human
personhood. If a fetus is a person, it is a person in very special circumstances it exists entirely within
the body of another much larger person and usually cannot be the object of direct action by another
person. The position Marco and her wife is not that clear from the available case study. But the
position of Aunt Maria is very clear. She holds the view or the theory that of the pro life movement.
Here the emphasize is on the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be born. She is very
clear about the status of the fetus as it is human life and that is to be protected by all means. The fetus
has the right to be germinated and to be born and grow in to its maturity. Nobody has the right to
terminate a life that God has created.

Resource Allocation
RESOURCE ALLOCATION
Resource allocation refers to the distribution of resources, and in particular finance, from the centre to
peripheral levels. It generally concerns broad levels of aggregated financial resources. Budgeting
implies the more detailed determination of precisely how these funds are to be used. Given the
importance we have placed on planning as a process that leads to action, budgeting and resource
allocation are major planning instruments.

The principal advantage of this technique is the fact that it forces managers to plan each program
package afresh. However, it demands more time and energy than conventional budgeting. The
advantages of the zero based budgeting approach include: * It forces the PM to thoroughly plan the
job before creating budgets. * It provides the PM with baseline information for monitoring and
controlling the project. * It records commitments made by the responsible individuals involved in
estimating the level of effort required for each task. * It develops the resource information needed to
calculate manpower requirements. * Completed during the proposal stage, it provides invaluable
information during contract negotiations. It also forms an excellent foundation for future change
control. * Forecast against the project schedule for each task, it generates cash flow
information.Despite all these advantages, the zero based budgeting method also sets the stage for PMs
to pile contingency upon contingency when examining each individual task ultimately over budgeting
the job.
2. Downward budgeting starts from the opposite direction. The assumption is that the value of the
project has been established, so it is known what the client is willing to pay to complete the work.
The budgeting process starts with a total price (fee) that is not necessarily related to the cost of
actually performing the work. The price has been

Self Awareness Theory Is Defined By Duval And Wickland
For decades film has shaped the minds of many. Film depicts who we are as a society. Creators and
directors use film to share stories and events that have molded our society. If you noticed, a film
brings light to the issues and concerns of everyday life. In connection to broadcasting the concerns of
the world, film has also been proven to manipulate individual s personal self awareness. Self
awareness theory is defined by Duval and Wickland (1972) as self focused attention that leads people
to compare their behavior to internal standards. Film is so important in our society that it can alter a
person s perspectives and narratives.
In society, film is used as a communicator to express ideas and generally brings forth awareness to
some topics. It also enables resourceful learning and encourages involvement from different
audiences. It can help audiences to reconsideration their purpose in our world. Film can also stimulate
people to change or better the injustices and exploitation they may be subjected to. Film affects how
we see ourselves at times, which proves that it is the most pervasive form of communication and
entertainment in the postmodern world , says Tomaselli.
In an article by Ben Detrick entitled The Inside Story Behind the Making of Hip Hop Film Dope , he
reviewed the movie Dope , by providing a technical yet informative entail of the film. In the film the
hip hop culture was depicted as an influential factor in the lives of three awkward teens. The

The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes
Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to
an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes
receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so
that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible
solutions.
In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special
treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must
meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and
CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According
to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in
academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The
problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by
teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put
on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the
NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain.
From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be

Why Is Tailgating Bad
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rear end collisions/tailgating
incidents are approximately 23 percent of all car crashes, resulting in approximately 2,000 deaths and
950,000 injuries. Seeing this stat it is not hard to see why tailgating is a very dangerous thing while
driving and needs to be eliminated. Tailgating although is not the only thing I don t like seeing when I
m conducting a car. While I m driving some of things that make me mad are when people don t use
turn signals, people having their brights on while passing them, and tailgating.
Driving without turning your signals on really grinds my gears because of the following reasons. One

The first thing that is bad about this is that the insecurity of the driver who is being tailgated. Driving
while being tailgated might result in a driver swerving or doing something that could result in
something they don t want to do. The thought of being tailgated may result in some things, one thing
could be speeding because their mind might tell them that they are going under the speed limit or not
fast enough. Next, the increase of an accident goes up a major percentage if someone is tailgating.
There was a stat done by the Driving Association in California and they tested the result in tailgating
when it occurs and doesn t occur. The stat showed that if someone would start to tailgate the chance of
an accident would go up a whole 65% which is a major increase. Lastly, the tailgator has a split
second to respond if the driver in front of them has to rapidly stop because of some reason. On a busy
road, there are many things that could cause a sudden stop like a ball rolling into a road or a child
running into the road to get that ball, and the time for the tailgator to respond is almost impossible to
prevent a crash. Not even a sudden stop can cause a crash but just a normal stop when the tailgator
doesn t have full attention on driving. Yes, it is evident that tailgating is bad, and we need to do
everything we can to completely eliminate

Utilitarianism In Star Wars
In the original trilogy the protagonists are underdogs, however, in the prequels, the supposed good
guys are shown to be a powerful combination of government and military lead by monastic warriors.
The structure of the Jedi order and their influence over a republican senate closely resembles the
relationship between the Roman Catholic church, the Knights templar, and western European
countries. Christendom historically was a socio religious community that became corrupted by greedy
individuals. It transformed into a geopolitical, secular power controlled by the wealthy and imposed
its will by force. This conception of corruption and war profiteering is depicted in the Star Wars films

one sect of the particular side. History and narrative coincide when observing a very political war with

most of Europe was unaffected by the military advancements made by Turks and Ottomans, Pope

Invisible Man Identity
In the novel, Invisible Man written by Ralph Ellison, the author jumps right into the story with a
character dying. The character who dies was the narrator s grandfather, who had earlier stated about
how to not become a traitor. From the beginning of the novel, it takes off into a story full of suspense
and mystery. The narrator has to overcome significant oppressions from the dominant white society.
Throughout the story, the protagonist has to find his own identity without tripping over obstacles, such
as his color. One major theme is identity; however, the protagonist s name is not given until the middle
of the novel, which is Griffin. The author wanted to express the personality and motivations of the

him humility. These are the days during which he is still a hopeful scholar, and defines himself as a

The author s intention was to show the problems African Americans had to overcome. The abuse and
degradation which he is put through in the battle royal gives him the first hints about how everything
is not as it seems, but fails to do anything to change the fact. For example, the narrator describes the
event, Get going, black boy (22). The narrator was shoved into a ring with other black classmates and
they had to fight each other while blindfolded. The narrator could have gone on living the life which
society had preselected for him, and could of have never realized his

The University Of Southern Mississippi
Please accept this personal statement as a part of my application for the doctoral program in criminal
justice starting the fall semester of 2016. The University of Southern Mississippi is my ideal location
for the achievement of a doctoral degree. I would like to demonstrate my knowledge, experience, and
research ability in the field of criminal justice and correctional studies. Having majored in the

changes in criminal justice and correctional policy. I am looking forward to the opportunities your
program has to offer and I believe my background and perspective in criminal justice will help enrich
the program, as well.
A wide range of diversity in the field of criminal justice studies is of great importance. As a second
year graduate student, I was given an opportunity to work closely with U.S Probation and Pretrial
Services as an intern. This internship allowed me to further my knowledge in correctional studies and
provided the necessary resources to complete my master s thesis. I was also exposed to various
policies and procedures pertaining to probation practices while gaining a vast amount of knowledge
assisting with investigations, liaisons between state and local agencies, and the intricacies of offender
case management. Furthermore, I was able to form close relationships with employees of the agency
who have assisted in my current career endeavors.

Difference Between The Easy Problem And The Hard Problem
Dr. Anil Seth combines cognitive science, neuroscience, psychiatry, brain imaging techniques and
mathematics to explain why consciousness exists at all. He talks about the distinction, which is passed
from Descartes, between the easy problem and the hard problem . The easy problem being to
understand how the brain and the body give rise to perception, cognition, behaviour and learning. The
hard problem being to understand how and why we have phenomenal experiences or qualia and how
all of this should be associated with consciousness at all: why aren t we just machines, without any
inner world/experiences? It is intriguing to think that solving the easy problem would get us nowhere
in solving the hard problem, which leaves the brain basis

Research Note On Distressed Debt
Research Note on Distressed Debt
Distressed securities are securities of companies or government that are experiencing distress (either
in financial or operational terms), default, or even bankruptcy. In case of debt, this is called distressed
debt. Investing in distressed debt can result in big returns, but the downside is that when a company
goes completely bankrupt, the value of your securities can go to zero.
Distressed debt sells at a very low percentage of par value, for example 30 cents on the dollar. This
percentage indicates that you can buy debt that is worth 1$ at maturity for 30 cents, which seems very
attractive but there is of course a reason that it is only worth 30 cents on the dollar. If the distressed
company emerges as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This limits the scope of potential investors to sophisticated individual investors, hedge funds, private
equity firms, vulture funds, and certain investment banks. The majority of distressed debt is bought by
these institutional investors because they have the resources, expertise, and sophisticated risk
management systems to assess the risk of these debt securities.
There are various ways investors can invest in distressed debt. The easiest way is to buy the distressed
debt in the bond market. Because most mutual funds are not allowed to invest in distressed debt, there
is ample supply of debt available shortly after a firm defaults. The second way is to buy distressed
debt directly from a mutual fund, since they have to sell according to their mandate. These
transactions are generally limited to institutional investors since large quantities of debt, and therefore
large quantities of cash, exchange hands. The third and final options is to buy directly into the
distressed firm. This involves working directly with the company to extend its credit, either in the
form of bonds or a revolving line of credit. Distressed companies usually need significant amounts of
cash for a turnaround, so it is common for a consortium of investment banks and hedge funds to
provide this cash to avoid overexposure to one

Thanksgiving Narrative Essay
Every Thanksgiving I travel to Saint Louis Missouri to stay with my grandmother. Our first day off

that was supposed to arrive that Wednesday, so I hoped it would come before we left. My brother in
college comes to decatur and brings his dog Dino (pronounced deno) so we can travel together. That
day all we had to do was wait on my brother Anthony to come back from his Richland classes. It took
a couple more hours than we were expecting, and everyone got impatient. I felt slightly ticked but also
glad my jacket came before we left.
We cram our suitcases in my mother s minivan along with groceries to cook when we get there. Along
the way I realize that I forgot my purse at home in a rush to get going. I began thinking of blaming my
brother who took so long at school but I decided against it. Every available spot in the car is taken
leaving little room for anyone to breathe. We take off on the two hour drive to Missouri.
The very same day I am awakened as we are almost there. We all unload and head inside our
grandmother s house. It takes several trips to get all of our belongings in the house. It was about 8:30
when we get there and yet, preparations for Thanksgiving were already under way. My mother

If you have the responsibility to plan and select an inventory of roofing areas to receive roof coatings,
the timing and priority of the installation is an important step. First you need information, to make

  • 2. Essay on Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or... Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or Addictive Nightmare Methamphetamine has reclaimed a place in the lexicon of party drugs. Hailed by nocturnal adventurers, condemned by raver idealists, is speed a sleepless dream or an addictive nightmare? Here at the end of the millennium, the pace of modern life seems fleeting a whirl of minutes, hours and days. In dealing with the changes, humans have equipped themselves with the tools to move faster, more efficiently. At the same time a dependence for the marketing, high speed transportation and pharmacology of this modern age has evolved. In a race to outdo ourselves, we have moved dangerously toward the fine line between extinction and evolution. Therefore, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hyperreality of today goes hand in hand with the drugs being administered. It s 6 a.m. Around the speaker bins are small packs of animated dancers grinding their feet into the floor and shaking their hands in front of them. The lookie loos and weekend warriors have long since gone home. Absent from their faces are the smiles of midnight, replaced by the blank, vacant stare of sleepless dreams. They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has somehow replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep. A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to the quash of young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from today s roster of events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old schoolers have been turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some were casualties themselves of the drug s addictive nature. Others ... • 3. Korematsu Versus the United States In the landmark case of Korematsu v. United States the Supreme Court was correct in the ruling because the executive order that was issued became a law to protect the country from persons that had close ethnic ties to the enemy and made all people that the government deemed a threat to national security into prisoners. Although this was against moral standards, it was a necessity at the time to protect the country. While it may seem that it was just the Japanese that were prosecuted, it was also Americans of German and Italian heritage that were also persecuted. This executive order infringed on the rights of American citizens based on their ethnic background. This isn t right because as said in the constitution everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The majority opinion in the ruling of Korematsu v. United States. The majority opinion in this case was in favor of the United States. The court in this case argued that the executive order 9066 (....WHEREAS the successful prosecution of the war requires every possible protection against espionage and against sabotage to national defense material, national defense premises, and national defense utilities....(illinois.edu) was legal because after the bombing of pearl harbor, the general population of the United States was in a state of chaos. • 4. The Truman Show By Peter Weir For centuries, man has dreamt of constructing pristine simulated worlds , existing in a separate sphere from our imperfect reality. From the town of Pullman, a company town south of Chicago to Disney World, attempts to force Utopia have failed, falling prey to the complications of people s personal desires. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, tells us the story of The Truman Show, an elaborate reality show built around the control of one man s life. Christof, the director, has created an entire living city for Truman, the star of his show, and the only one not in on this whole elaborate fakery. Essentially, Truman is living his life in the simulation of a flawless, archetypal American town, for the entertainment of millions of viewers around the world. Christof, along with countless others obsessed with the idea of controlling part of the world to fit their visions of an ideal reality, have deluded themselves into thinking fictional utopias can exist apart from the undeniable constraints of reality. Their fundamental flaw lies in relying on the assumptions of psychological behaviorism, and the belief that they could perfectly condition the behavior of the inhabitants follow the goals of the community. In order for Christof s scheme to work, Truman must be unaware that he s living in a simulation, and be satisfied with the simulated life that s presented to him. As much as possible, Christof and his crew try to control every element of Truman s life. A massive dome is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Footballs In The Stadiums Mitch Trubisky is a Franchise Quarterback The Chicago Bears have found their future of their franchise. They are generally considered the laughing stock of the league. They no longer deserve that reputation anymore though, they will soon prove the haters wrong with their new franchise quarterback. With Mitch Trubisky at the helm of this franchise they have what it takes to make a run for the championship. They call it Mitchmas, Merry Mitchmas to all the Bears fans, Mitchapalooza, Mitch Magic etc. there is some serious hype around the franchise now that number two overall pick of the 2017 draft is now slinging footballs for the Chicago Bears. It sounds kind of dumb but the fact that Mitch Trubisky is playing alone brings the hype for Bears fans. Fan support is actually a really big deal in the NFL. When the fans are invested in the game they cheer louder and bring a sense of energy to the stadium, some might say the stadium was electric. #10 on first NFL start: It was fun. It was Monday Night Football. The crowd was electric, gotta thank them for coming out and really supporting us. 9:24 PM 9 Oct 2017 (Tweet) (@ChicagoBears). As you can see that the stadium had a different feel with Trubisky under center and that is actually a phenomenon, some NFL stadiums are harder to compete in than others. For example everyone knows there is an added challenge while playing in Seattle. Picking between them is tough, but I would say narrowly that the Seahawks have the best ... It is as Nikhil that he loses his virginity at a party at Ezra Stiles, with a girl wearing a plaid woolen skirt and combat boots and mustard tights (105). Later in his life he starts to use his good name, Nikhil, and it seems he becomes a new person and enjoys life. The truth is Gogol isn t enjoying life, Nikhil is. Without people in the world to call him Gogol, no matter how long he himself lives, Gogol Ganguli will, once and for all, vanish from the lips of loved ones, and so, cease to exist. Yet the thought of this eventual demise provides no sense of victory, no solace. It provides no solace at all (289). He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just fifty years before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant in France. At the time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French peasants were not being recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced. Around this time, the industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that were occurring, including the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural areas. This change gave Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in people and their lively hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives as new work arose and new opportunities for what was thought of a better life. Guillaumin writes an excellent inside into understanding how the nineteenth century French peasants lived. Although there are an increasingly number of literature when it comes to serial killers, but it would appear that most of it is more based on the identification of the killer and the reasons why he or she did it (2009). According to Bartels and Parsons, it is believed that there is a dominant understanding of a serial killer that it has to do with a sexual fantasy role, which has to do with a role of sexual fantasy. Fantasy is defined by Prentky et al. Even though they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed. One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart and Armitage 13 14). Many a Tsar found himself on the short end of a sword or just the right amount of poison in his drink. All of the monarchs of Russia had this history in their minds when they began to rule but as the parent of their nation, they had no choice but to rule and do the best they could. If a fetus is a person, it is a person in very special circumstances it exists entirely within the body of another much larger person and usually cannot be the object of direct action by another person. The position Marco and her wife is not that clear from the available case study. But the position of Aunt Maria is very clear. She holds the view or the theory that of the pro life movement. Here the emphasize is on the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be born. She is very clear about the status of the fetus as it is human life and that is to be protected by all means. The fetus has the right to be germinated and to be born and grow in to its maturity. Nobody has the right to terminate a life that God has created. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it demands more time and energy than conventional budgeting. The advantages of the zero based budgeting approach include: * It forces the PM to thoroughly plan the job before creating budgets. * It provides the PM with baseline information for monitoring and controlling the project. * It records commitments made by the responsible individuals involved in estimating the level of effort required for each task. * It develops the resource information needed to calculate manpower requirements. * Completed during the proposal stage, it provides invaluable information during contract negotiations. It also forms an excellent foundation for future change control. * Forecast against the project schedule for each task, it generates cash flow information.Despite all these advantages, the zero based budgeting method also sets the stage for PMs to pile contingency upon contingency when examining each individual task ultimately over budgeting the job. 2. • 21. The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible solutions. In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain. From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be ... Research Note On Distressed Debt Research Note on Distressed Debt Distressed securities are securities of companies or government that are experiencing distress (either in financial or operational terms), default, or even bankruptcy.
