The Amazon River Basin is named as one of the 7 wonders of nature. It covers nearly 2,700,000
square miles. There are eight countries that fall within the border of the Amazon River Basin; they are
Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guiana. The Amazon rainforest covers
2,100,000 of those miles. To give you a greater sense of the size, the rainforest is about the size of the
United States. It is estimated to have 16,000 tree species and 30 percent of the world s species found
there, and over 90% of the animal species in the Amazon are insects. The Amazon rainforest is one of
Earth s last refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles and pink dolphins, and home to thousands of birds and
butterflies. Tree dwelling species include southern two toed sloths, pygmy marmosets, saddleback and

plant species, and 3,000 freshwater fish species and more than 370 types of reptiles. But people live

Its importance to humans
The Amazon rainforest, which is also referred to as a natural sink is a major warrior in the war on
global warming. While humans are burning fossil fuels and using gas, oil and coal carbon dioxide is
pouring into the atmosphere. Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide use it for photosynthesis, then
release clean oxygen. (Oskin, B. 2014, March 20) Then you have the Amazon river that meanders
through the rainforest teeming with life and home to some of the biggest fish in the world. It s a main

On Sunday morning, Mum and Dad decided to bring us to toboggan at Lake Mountain. We woke up at
7:45am in the morning, got changed and started our journey to Lake Mountain. As we were driving

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is a disorder that I struggle with personally. It is when a person has a
tense feeling of stress, and anxiety for long periods of time without any real cause of it. Even though
everyone has fears, and has stress from time to time it isn t harmful unless the anxiety and stress is
keeping someone from living their life, and relaxing. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is different from
other anxiety disorders because panic attacks rarely occur, and instead an overpowering sense of dread
is long lasting.
People with GAD, and myself have fears that other people without the disorder have, except the fears
are taken to a new level. For example, I am a person with GAD who has an extreme fear of flying on
airplanes. I will try to avoid flying on airplanes as much as possible, and even cancel plans or
vacations because of my fear. Over spring break I was supposed to fly to Costa Rica for a study
abroad class but cancelled a few weeks before because of all the stress of having to fly on a plane. For
me, when I m on an airplane I feel that if I don t constantly worry, or repeat certain phrases then
something bad is going to happen.
Other symptoms of GAD are difficulty falling asleep, and staying asleep because of all of the

By fall, Tweed had coerced the New York Supreme Court into passing sixteen hundred naturalizations
daily, and even more from other courts. In a desperate attempt to extract control from Tammany Hall s
iron grip, Marshal Robert Murray placed Republican marshals to challenge immigrants votes, whether
they were legitimate or not. In retaliation, Tammany raised mayor John Hoffman prohibited anyone
from intimidating, obstructing, or defrauding any voter. Tammany deputies began arresting
Republican deputies. When the polls closed, Democrats delayed or made distractions, allowing their
backroom fixers to fix the numbers. Even Murray s tries to arrest the Tammany deputies resulted in

Richard Connolly, and Peter Barr Sweeney started the Tweed Ring , which ultimately damned him.
Over the next five years, the foursome would make between $40 and $100 million dollars off the city

treasure in 1870, funneling funds into their own private bank account so exceedingly that action had to
