Finally, it possesses technology and infrastructure to support excellent service levels and consistent

Question 3:
What challenges faced the company in the late 1990s?
The main challenge the company incurred in the late 1990, was to be able to achieve and maintain its
critical mass in all product lines in order to maintain better bargaining power and relationships with its
buyers and subsequently maintain its profit margins above 15% and achieve higher price/earnings
multiplies and achieving increasing returns to scale (Whitelegg 1997).
By end of 90 s the company was dominant in many of the categories it competed in. The challenge
was found in whether it can continue its dominance in it s new, expanding product ranges and could
maintain its dominance and synergy in its all categories on low and high price offering in hardware,
home furnishings, office and house ware, while maintaining its management and corporate structures.
Another challenge was found on whether the company should go global and whether it will be able to
maintain its efficiencies over the border.

Military Rank Observation
The day I conducted my field observation the entire class and club was testing for rank. Testing for
rank gives individuals the opportunity to show the instructors how much they have grown as a
Taekwondo participant. If an individual is deemed to have improved enough they will be awarded
their next belt rank. The testing consists of Forms (patterns of punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes),
One Steps/Sparring Combinations (specified combinations of punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes that
are designed to ease individuals into sparring), Sparring (actual trading of blows), and Breaking Wood
(breaking inch thick wooden boards). Everyone must do their forms, only White/Yellow/Orange

This is reflected in the almost military like structure where commands are given at the top and those
under authority must comply without question. Almost everything is ritualized such as bowing before
certain activities and replying with a Yes sir or Yes Ma am . The fact that we stretched as a group in
unison and counted out loud at the same pace shows just how structured Taekwondo is. Those who
stand out from the rest are called out for violating rules and are publically addressed. This lack of
individuality also makes it hard for individuals to question the structure or bring up different
perspective about how sessions should be run. There are also conflicting ideologies at play. Do we
honor the values and tradition of Taekwondo? Do we implement other ways of doing things? Is there a
middle ground? Can certain things be negotiable, such as the dress code? There are a lot of questions
that go unanswered because there is a lack of opportunity for dialogue between individuals and the

The Metabolism Movement
The Metabolism movement is known as a modern architecture movement, which emerged from japan.
The movement had its blooming start during the World Design Congress held at Tokyo in 1960, when
a group of young architects and designers, who called themselves Metabolists, presented their radical
and visionary proposals of urban and architectural schemes. Among the schemes that were presented
were the Marine city and the Tower shape city by Kiyonori Kikutake. This presentation introduced the
motabolist movement to the audience. The main members of the movement were architects Kiyonori
Kikutake, Masato Otaka, Fumihiko Maki, Noriaki Kurokawa, the architectural critic Noboru
Kawazoe. And Kenzo Tange who is recognized as the mentor of these Metabolists. The architects
involved envisioned the ideal city, and planned experimental architecture and cities that are adaptable
to change they developed flexible buildings, houses that could expand or shrink according to demand,
cities that were sustainable, with buildings made of recyclable materials. All of this visions and views
were arose as a response to reconstruct japan after the human and environmental disaster that followed
the atomic bombing of Japan during the World War II.
The main concern of the metabolist group of architects is to achieve flexible, changeable ... Show

for modular office units, which punctuated the main core on both sides. The building represents
metabolism movement ideas of organically inspired structural growth. The project was supposed to be

Measuring The Load Pattern Of Measuring A Minimum Of Two...
In some cases, lateral force shapes result to good approximation of demand displacements.
Nevertheless, there has not been found any constant loading for exact approximation of local
mechanisms and plastic hinges. Earthquake codes have made it mandatory to use a minimum of two
lateral load patterns in nonlinear static procedure. These two load patterns are chosen to cover
resulting forces in actual dynamic response of the structure. There are two load patterns which are
used mostly in usual studies: uniform and modal load pattern. When using uniform load pattern, called
also constant acceleration pattern, lateral forces applied to the structure are proportional to the mass of
the building stories. This load pattern emphasizes on bottom floors demands more than top floor
demands. It also increases the importance of shear in stories against overturning moment while modal
load pattern emphasizes overturning moment and story demands. The FEMA356 code allows using
comparative load pattern instead of constant load pattern. In this method the load pattern varies by
plastic hinges as the displacements in the structure increase. Obviously, none of these shapes of
constant loading can perform redistribution of inertia forces which occur with the first local
mechanism and change of dynamic properties of the structure. Therefore, it is interesting to find a load
shape which is closer to the variation of inertia forces distribution and gives a better approximation of
the behavior of

Plato s Conception Of The Physical World Of Forms
Plato believes that there were two worlds. The inferior is the world of appearances which we can
experience with our five senses. The other is the word of Forms which we cannot experience with our
senses. He believes that as the physical world is always changing it cannot be perfect as nothing is
eternal, however in the world of appearances every Form is immutable therefore is perfect. Our soul
was once in the world of Forms and longs to go back there. Our physical body cannot enter the world
of Forms as it is not immutable, therefore our soul cannot return to the world of forms until it is
released from our body and we die.
Plato believed that behind every concept (such as beauty) in the physical world we live in, there is an
invisible yet perfect reality as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is how he believes that we have innate knowledge, because our soul has existed in the world of
Forms and desires to go back there. The Forms are the source of all the innate knowledge we have, as
they are it does not change therefore can be perfect, which is why the copies of the Form that do
change are imperfect. In the world of Forms the ideas for the physical world exist as immutable and
perfect. This means that everything we see in the world of appearances will spark knowledge about
something we learned when our soul was in the world of Forms; however it will always be imperfect
and open to debate as nothing that changes can be perfect therefore can leave room for opinion. Plato
believed that there was that there is a truth that cannot be obtained through the imperfect, changing
world of appearances. It can only show the copied appearances, which lead us to form opinions, rather
than knowledge. The truth only be found in the world Forms. For Plato, in order for something to be
real, it had to be permanent and unchanging. Reality and perfection for Plato were closely

The Evolution Of Tetra Pods
It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related
amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals, from
aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408 360, mya,
and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer, A and
Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs over many
geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different habitats and show
characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural selection pressures (Kinear,
J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent from a
common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of animals is an
important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and evolutionary relationships
often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are related. In the biological
systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into increasingly specific groups,
starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their genus and species (Huxley, L;
Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and this determines what phyla they
belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the chordate phylum, meaning that they
all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish,
reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on vertebrates have revealed that progressive
evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration, efficient reproduction and paired muscular
appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider range of habitats and on land. The
development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from

Operation Redwing Analyisis
Operation Red Wing On June 28, 2005 The SEAL team, led by LT Michael P. Murphy and consisting
of petty officers Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and Marcus Luttrell, were on a mission to kill or
capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban leader who commanded a group of insurgents known as the Mountain
Tigers, west of Asadabad. The initial counter insurgent mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan
seemed to be running accordingly with a successful infiltration into enemy territories until local Goat
herders stumbled upon the teams hiding spot. While very concerned with their own well being the
Seal team was unable to verify Hostile intent from the herders. LT Murphy put the final decision of the

With a strong need to quickly find the lost SEAL team the US military had over 300 men working in
search and rescue operations. Nearly two days after the initial attack the men had located the downed
helicopter and verified that all 16 aboard had been killed. Despite multiple attempts, the search
helicopters were unable to locate the wounded Navy SEAL and he was soon announced MIA. On July
2, the village elder of Sabray, carrying a note from Luttrell, went down to seek help from Camp
Blessing, a Marine outpost several miles away. First Lieutenant Matt Bartels was the first to hear of
the lone survivor and soon called up to higher for extraction plans. With high hopes the US military
drew up extensive plans for Luttrell s retrieval making him a high priority. As if the Taliban heard of
the SEALs new hopes for rescue they were more persistent than ever at getting him as their captive.
The rescue teams of the US closed in upon the village when they suddenly ran into Luttrell and some
of the villagers who were moving him from one hiding place to another. Six days later the search
teams found the bodies of LT Murphy s and GM2 Dietz but STG2 Axelson was never found and is
now pronounced KIA. This tragic event in our nation s current War on terror is arguably the worst of

Role Of Havisham In Great Expectations
This dissertation explores the representation of Estella Havisham as the gothic Femme Fatale in
Dickens Great Expectations. I will examine how Estella Havisham was imagined in Dickens Great
Expectations and how her personality was shaped into the Victorian era. I will explore the character of
Estella Havisham as a Narcissist, taking into account the works of psychoanalysts like Sigmund
Freud, Lou Andreas Salome and Salvok Zizek in order to further elaborate her character as a Femme
Fatale.
Dickens work is famous for its in depth detail of its key characters; therefore, it is important to discuss

These norms were influenced by various factors such as economy, domesticity, gender roles, religion,
imperialism, and much more. Amid the period symbolized by the rule of British ruler Queen Victoria,
women were not liable to have the right to sue, suffrage rights, or the right to own property. In the
meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking after the Industrial
Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes, the women s suffrage
movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last years of the Victorian
age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the domestic sphere and this
stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and raising children. Alex Owen
puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as The categorisation of so called female virtues found its
expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the spiritually refined angel in the house woman
as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of influence was the home and domesticity (7). By
making domesticity seem desirable to the Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them
behind doors. Owen further explains the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, In analysing many
discourses which together constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic
literature written for, and often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was
underpinned by certain major constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of
innate female passivity, a negative attribute constructed in opposition to so called masculine will
power. Along with this went the concepts of female frailty, constructed in opposition to a standard
masculine strength and virility; a moral and spiritual sensibility which acted as the

Essay on Zapatista Movement in Mexcio
The Zapatista rebellion in Chiapas, Mexico got worldwide attention on January 1, 1994, when they
marched to Mexico City against the signing of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The free trade agreement was intended to facilitate trading between Canada, United States, and
Mexico. The Zapatista claimed that this agreement would affect the indigenous people of Chiapas by
further widening the gap between the poor and the rich. In this paper I will examine the NAFTA
agreement and the Zapatista s ideology and claims against the NAFTA agreement to see whether or
not any real effects have risen within the indigenous people of Chiapas Mexico and in Mexico as a
whole.

agricultural products, which might end Mexican crop subsidies. They argued that this would
significantly reduce the income and affect the living standards of many southern Mexican farmers.
They would not be able to compete with the subsidized, artificially fertilized, mechanically harvested,
and genetically modified imports from the United States.
The signing of NAFTA also resulted in a big problem for the indigenous people in Mexico. Prior to
the signing of NAFTA, Article 27 Section VII in the Mexican Constitution guaranteed land reparations
to indigenous groups all throughout Mexico. With the signing of NAFTA, Article 27 Section VII was
instantly removed. This article of the constitution is extremely important to the Zapatista movement
given that it was the cornerstone of Emiliano Zapata s work during the Mexican revolution. Article 27
also protected the ingenious people who had landholdings from sale or privatization. In Noam
Chomsky s Profit over People: Neoliberalism and Global Order, he notes that, The uprising coincided
with the enactment of NAFTA, which the Zapatista army called a death sentence for Indians... (122).
As soon as the agreement was signed the EZLN declared war on the Mexican state.
The impact of NAFTA on Mexico and its farmers is undeniable. In the year 2000, the United States
government subsidies to the corn sector totaled an estimated $10 billion. These subsidies have led to

The average turn from the time customers receive their food to the time they exit the restaurant, is 32
minutes. Additionally, it appears that even the experienced staff has difficulties in serving the
customers as the demand exceeds labor utilized creating queues on the weekends of up to 25 minutes.
The restaurant also shares the same occupancy pattern as The Village at Blue Mountain, which results
in lower sales during shoulder seasons (April, May, October and November). During the months of
extreme weather conditions the restaurant s capacity is reduced as the patio of 40 seats become
inoperable. In addition, the restaurant could not receive daily inventory deliveries from Toronto, which
resulted in paying a premium on effective inventory management.
Problem Statement
Sunset Grill at Blue is understaffed and lacks adequate seating capacity to accommodate the demand
of customers during the weekend.

and rates of depreciation.
Although it offers other functions, the main purpose of this application was designed for asset
management. Using the collected data about an asset, the system, Unifier sends notifications or work
orders at scheduled intervals to the designated respondents who then perform the needed tasks. For
example, information about a fleet vehicle can be loaded into the Unifier system and the system will

Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok
depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders.
The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David
Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn
more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and
knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and
pursue personal excellence.
These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys
were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to
become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved
psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow
Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing.
Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library
to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he
wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it
would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of
education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow
their dreams the boys needed an education.
The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb
Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny
and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be
strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having
hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should forgive
Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Essay
Next on the list is Cleveland East Ohio Gas Explosion of 1944. On October 20, 1944, a storage tank
holding liquefied natural gas, that was kept above ground as was common at the time, began leaking.
The liquefied gas dropped into the sewer lines, mixed with air and sewer gas, and consequently
ignited. A series of fires and explosions killed 130 people in Cleveland, Ohio. The catastrophe event
made a significant impact on the natural gas industry, that started to store the tanks below ground
(Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). Again, it is obvious the lesson learned here but that doesn t take
away from how important it is. The lesson was to store such gas below ground and to make
calculations for the unexpected. The sixth in this series was the Hyatt Regency Hotel Walkway

Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and...
Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and Branagh Film Versions of Henry the Fifth Many
films have been made of Shakespeare s play, Henry V . The two I am analysing are by Laurence
Olivier (1944) and Kenneth Branagh (1988). They are made for very different audiences with different
aims. Although they seem very different, in some ways, Branagh s version used many techniques of
Olivier s. Both productions were performed to communicate the director s feelings on war to the
audience and were performed when war had played a part in recent history. Olivier s version is very
pro war in that he glorifies war but at the same time it lacks realism so that it was not too close to the

The spirit of whose ancestors it has been humbly attempted to recapture. This is intended to make the
audience feel proud to be fighting for England as their ancestors did. Being produced during the
Second World War, many of the viewers may have had relatives out in battle. They had no clear idea
of the reality due to the lack of technology and communication. The light hearted view of the battles
reassured the audience. It is shown very patriotically and heroically so the audiences would feel good
about the war and have felt proud to be English. The French in this film may have represented the
Germans in the war as the enemy. In the battle the enemy is shown as evil to make the audience feel
they re doing the right thing fighting evil. Branagh s film was set many years later when society was
more immune to shocking films and television programmes. He presents a dynamic king duped into
fighting a bloody, vicious war whose victory is undone within a generation. Olivier s version is quite
pro war whereas Branagh s version seems very anti war. This film portrays his negative attitude to war
by emphasising the realism of the battle. The gore and realistic fighting will have shocked the
audience and may have allowed them to consider the conditions in Vietnam. For example in the battle
of Agincourt, the close up individual fighting will have made

Summary Of Sioux Code Talkers Of World War 2

American people coming over from England. American people always felt superior to other races.
During World War II Native Americans joined the military to help serve their country. In World War II

the years of 790 and 805 by architect Odo of Metz. Metz created the chapel for Emperor
Charlemagne, who ruled during the second half of the eighth century. Charlemagne was a strong new
force that emerged on the continent, and his ruling brought out new ideas, architecture and religion to
the people under his ruling. It was under Charlemagne, that the new dynasty of Carolingian was
created, and with his expansion, he brought this dynasty to many different places around the continent.
Carolingian architecture is influenced by styles from past western capitals, this implies The Palatine
Chapel as it is influenced from past architecture as well. He admired many other architectural pieces
and used many other pieces as inspirations for one of the earliest examples of the Carolingian style. It
is noted that the chapel was a strong way to represent the religion of Christianity, however it can also
be said that the chapel was a way to represent Charlemagne and all the things he wished for the people
under his rule. The making of the chapel in more ways is strongly connected to the Christian religion.
Charlemagne was a very powerful man who first seized power when he was able to attain much of
Western Europe from the years 768 to 814. He ruled over which would be modern day Germany,

Courtroom Case Analysis
Today (February 4th, 2016), I was placed in Courtroom 4C of the courthouse and instructed to sit in
and observe every case brought forward to the judge today. I have to say, some of the cases I heard
about today were not your real average day cases. One thing one of my supervisors; Vinny, told me to
look out for was the the college/high school students who got in trouble for underage possession
because they stick out like a sore thumb in the courthouse. He said you can tell which ones they are
based on the way they are dressed and how nervous they look when they are sitting and waiting for
their case to be heard. Vin was not wrong, once the room was open for people to come in, I saw a
group of 5 6 college age students walk in very well dressed and most of them came in with one or two
parents next to them. Throughout the day, some of the cases brought forward to the judge ... Show

In one case, a middle aged woman was charged with domestic assault against her boyfriend, but the
story behind it was absurd. The woman was angry at her boyfriend for something he did, so she took a
pizza he threw in the trash, shoved it down his throat along with her sharp finger nails, and cut the
inside of the mans throat. She then proceeded to start beating the man and throwing the pizza at him
until the cops were called on them and she was arrested by the Pawtucket police department. In
another case, my favorite case of the entire day, a elderly woman (roughly 60 65 years old) was
charged with the use and possession fraud checks and identification and the possession of an
unregistered fire arm. Along with these crazy charges she was facing, this woman showed up to the
courthouse wearing a t shirt that said on it, Mr. Bin Laden, your party is waiting for you at the gate.
Why was she wearing this shirt? and Why was she arrested for these crazy charges? I wish I knew the
answers to these questions, but I will be looking into her case a little more when I go back to the office

A Brief Note On Coronary Heart Disease ( Chd )
Introduction
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the obstruction of blood vessels that supply the heart muscle, due to
the deposition of lipid material [1]. Figure 1 illustrates various modifiable and non modifiable risk
factors, influencing the prevalence of CHD within Australians.

Disease in Australia
[19]
Modifiable Risk Factors Non Modifiable Risk Factors

Psychological stress Heredity
Prevalence of CHD over the past century
As shown in Figure 2 (Page 2), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) observed a
73% decrease in mortality caused by CHD, between 1968 and 2011 [2]. More specifically, the decline
in the mortality rate occurred in the late 1960s, where these changes were most evidence in males and
females aged 55 64 and 65 74 years respectively [21]. As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page 2), the
mortality rate in men aged 35 44 and 45 54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to older
men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall decline had
only been hindered in the 45 54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age groups [21]. Thus,
over the past century, mortality rates have generally declined [2]. Although, this rate of decline is
gradually improving in older populations and deteriorating in younger

How To Become An Organ Donor
When an individual becomes sixteen years of age, they are faced with a life changing decision:
whether or not they should become an organ donor. While a person is deciding whether or not to
become an organ donor for life, they are choosing to donate their organs to other individuals once they
have passed away. Although an individual may not believe becoming an organ donor can have an
effect on a person s life, they are tragically mistaken. While the choice to become an organ donor has
an effect on the donor s family, it also has an unimaginable effect on not only the recipient s life and
the family s lives as well. Organ donations are made possible due to the unexpected deaths of
individuals that are willing to donate their organs to people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is a common belief among many individuals which in turn causes them to opt out of becoming an
organ donor. However, many individuals don t realize when they opt out of becoming a donor due to
this belief; they are then possibly causing another individual to lose their life. For instance, if an
individual believed they would receive a lesser amount of medical attention and decided not to
become an organ donor, then one day contracted a life threatening medical problem and passed away
because of it even though they received the normal amount of medical attention, their organs would
then be of no use because they never gave permission for their organs to be donated to those
individuals who needed them. This in turn means one of the one hundred and twenty thousand
individuals on the organ transplantation list will most likely lose their life, because one selfish
individual was more concerned about living their own life as opposed to sacrificing their life for

The Sacred Heart Cathedral is of the Roman Catholic religion. The Roman Catholic church was
created when the Eastern and Western churches divided in 1054, with the Roman Catholic church
coming from the Western church (Matlins). Coming from a Methodist background I found Roman
Catholicism interesting because out of all the various Christian denominations it appeared to be the
most different from the Protestant and Orthodox sectors of Christianity (Brodd). It is intriguing that
one religion can have various practices and ways of worship. After and during Mass I was able to

Alcohol As AAlcoholic Beverage
Alcoholic drinks play a crucial social role in most cultures. An alcoholic beverage is a drink which
contains a significant amount of the psychoactive drug ethanol which is informally called alcohol.
[Wikipedia] Most countries implement laws regulating alcoholic drinks production, sale and
consumption because of their potential for abuse which may cause physical dependence and increase
their risk of alcohol related harm. [1] [ Minimum Age Limits Worldwide . International Center for
Alcohol Policies. Retrieved 2009 09 20.] In Australian society, alcohol has many roles. Many
Australians take alcohol mostly for relaxation, enjoyment and for social reasons, and generally they
consume alcohol at levels that cause few adverse effects. However, a significant proportion of
Australians take alcohol at levels that cause adverse effects. In many countries, Australia inclusive,
disease, injury and a considerable burden of death is attributed to alcohol. Families and the broader

Tasks of Mourning
There are several models on grief, however this author believes that one of the most significant is
William Worden s four tasks of grieving model. According to Leming and Dickinson, 2010, mourning
is necessary for all individuals who have experienced loss and there are four tasks of mourning one
must accomplish before the mourning process can be completed. These four tasks are as follows: to
accept the realty of loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to an environment in which the person is
absent, and to withdraw emotional energy and reinvest it in another relationship. Worden suggested
that if the tasks are not completed, the individual will struggle to develop and grow (Worden, 1982).
This model has a unique application to nursing because it suggests that certain actions can be done
through the control of the mourner in order to facilitate the grieving process. Even more significant is
that nurses with knowledge of this theory will be able to help guide grievers through this process.
Accept the reality of Loss The goal of this step is to help the griever accept the reality of the loss.
While this can be especially difficult in situations where the death is sudden, it is important to
overcome the response of denial. Some of the ways in which one can facilitate this step would be to
view the body, attend the funeral, or to discuss the death and situations around the death (Leming
Dickinson, 2010).

Cultural Industries (sometimes also known as creative industries ) combine the creation, production,
and distribution of goods and services that are cultural in nature and usually protected by intellectual
property rights (GATT 2005). In recent years the creative industry has become an obsession with

(Lawrence and Philip 2002). David Beckham currently has his own Police sunglasses that people buy
as they are associated with him. For marketers this seems appropriate to their beliefs that with the
correct marketing mix a meaning can be put across to the target market that will increase sales. This
argument tries to get across that creative industries are not just restricted to film industry, fashion or
theatre. This approach does also have its critics though, Thompson et al (2007) says that even if these
products are sold through direct or indirect interpretations it fails to recognize these products still need
to be produced. Take for example the Adidas running shoe that came back as a premium priced retro
shoe that is now fashionable. However it does not appreciate that the product still had to be made by
real workers in real factories, they still need traditional skill sets and employment structures. People at
Adidas did have the creative freedom to think of the new retro comeback but this is a very small part
of the company. So yes creative economies are expanding but not at a fast enough rate to be a leading
economy in any way.
So it is clear that we do not have a significant cultural economy as a product needs to be

Basically, creating a positive atmosphere for the other side making willingness to engage in a
negotiation in the first place more likely in setting a foundation for a positive experience expectation

In my opinion, the results in different relationship context would have been interesting to study. For
example, looking at the influences of perspective taking and empathy approaches in intimate
relationships.
I would guess that empathy would be rated higher for the success of negotiation in intimate
relationships.
Perspective taking can be motivated by trying to get the upper hand where as empathy is motivated by
a perspective of equality. Perspective taking only perhaps can be misleading in that it may give the
person the impression that their concern is important to the other person because their concerns are
valued which I think essentially means that they are valued. It would be conflicting if someone valued
another but had no regard for another s values regardless if they held the same values.
Empathy, I think, is sincere, genuine honest approach that fosters trust and effects the ability to have
closer relationships. You can t fake empathy. The other person can sense that fakeness. It is that
genuineness that leads to trust that is a base of intimacy. When we are emotionally

Advantages Of Prep School
A prep school is a place for students to learn, grow, and practice skills that will help them be
successful later in life. They offer different possibilities for students, that other schools often cannot or
do not have available. While public schools are where the majority of students go, due to a variety of
factors, prep schools are frequently more beneficial than public schools. Prep schools have better
facilities and higher success rates, and are therefore superior to public schools, despite what Holden
experiences. A prep school is a school that offers a higher set of learning to its students, through
various advantages. They only accept the best of the best students, which is one of the reasons that so
many of their students go on to attend prestigious colleges as well (College Admission from Prep

programming led by teacher scholars, many of whom hold advanced degrees in their subject areas
(The 50 Best Boarding Schools in the U.S). Holden Caulfield in the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D.
Salinger attended prep school, and although he disliked it immensely, he still formed a close
relationship with one teacher in particular. That teacher, Mr. Antolini offers Holden a place to stay

There are numerous political parties in the United States and they all have no strict requirements for
membership. That means whatever group you want to belong to you can. There are also no
membership lists that are maintained. Some of the ways to determine party affiliation comes from
voting surveys and public opinion polls. The majority of voters in America consider themselves to be

and supported a weak central government. They believed that the states and citizens should retain the

during John Quincy Adam s presidency from 1825 to 1829. The split pitted the party against the
followers of Andrew Jackson. During this time other groups formed the Whig Party. Andrew Jackson

The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse
The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child abuse in
1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014). Many people
hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are correct in thinking of
physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the CDC shows that although
physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or psychological abuse is the second
leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think sexual abuse along with physical abuse
would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect
is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as
often as it used to. In fact, it is now being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse
(Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a
child are countless as well as life changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the
CDC as drug abuse, sexual transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014).
When a child who has been abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog
that has been abused by its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a
skeptical attitude (Fink, A. H., Janssen, K. N, 1992). They are constantly avoiding

The book The Philadelphia Chromosome by Jessica Wapner follows the story of how a fatal disease
called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia became one of the first targets of kinase inhibitors for targeted
cancer therapies. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) affects only a small number of people (an
estimated 8,500 diagnoses this year), but was until recently considered a fatal disease. Gleevec, a drug
created by Novartis (mostly) that targeted the BCR/ABL protein in CML patients. This protein causes
a tyrosine kinase to uncontrollably phosphorylate myeloid cells in bone marrow. The BCR/ABL
protein is caused by a gene mutation known as The Philadelphia Chromosome, which is an
abnormality in chromosome 22. This abnormality is caused by a gene translocation ... Show more

His goal is to find out how this gene leads to CML in patients, and hopefully, find a way to stop it. The
bcr/abl protein constantly tells cells, specially myeloid cells, that it is time to divide, causing
uncontrollable replication, and these cells have a mutation in them, they don t die like normal cells do,
causing the body to overflow with these useless cancer cells. Researches at Ciba Giegy began working
on a way to inhibit the bcr/abl tyrosine kinases from signaling to cells. This work resulted in a
compound known as STI 571, which was a targeted kinase inhibitor. One of the fears this team faced
was, if you inhibit a kinase, do you inhibit them all? Causing the patient to die, or can you manage to
only inhibit a single type of kinase, leaving the rest alone to do their jobs. By 1996, Gleevec (STI 571)
was shown to kill cancer cells, while leaving normal cells healthy. In 1998, Ciba Giegy (now
Novartis) was ready to start phase 1 clinical trials in patients. By 2001, the FDA approved the drug for
used in the treatment of

The Sandinista Revolution
Plan of Investigation
The following research will discuss how the Nicaraguan Economy was affected by the revolution
between 1976 1979. The funding of the United States was giving to Nicaragua and it not going to the
proper places. This eventually affected the countries; United States and Nicaragua. This research will
be concentrate upon 1976 1979. Some topics that will be talked about will be what was the actual
Sandinista Revolution, what the economy was before the revolution and how it was affected after.
Some of the sources I will use would be, The Aftermath of the Sandinista Revolution , by Stuart A.
Kallen. This is valuable source because it explains who were the Sandinistas and how they came to be
and what exactly happened after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1967, a man known as Anastasio Somoza, was announced as president. Since his father, Somoza
Garcia, was already disliked it did not help him at all when he was announced president. Anastasio let
the power of being president get over his head and eventually enriched himself. In civilians eyes he
was corrupt and he proved that when an earthquake hit Nicaragua. He had declared to use the
emergency powers and while that took place he headed a different direction. He decided to steal the
aid coming in for Nicaragua for himself. This was one of the main reasons why the Sandinista
Revolution came to be, known as the Sandinista National Liberation Front. The Sandinistas did not
believe that the message they were trying to get towards the Nicaraguan business negotiators so they
decided to take things into their own hands and measures. This lead to the kidnapping of certain
powerful people in politics to make a statement towards them. the Sandinistas continued to revolt
towards the regime and started to gain support of Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, and Cuba. This
continuation of fighting the regime went on until the middle of 1979, when the Somoza Rule had lost
power of Nicaragua. The Sandinistas gained control of the new government of Nicaragua. Once the
Sandinistas gained control of Nicaragua, drastic changes took place. Somoza had decided to run for
president even though it was unconstitutional. The Constitution states that the terms of presidency is
only 2 terms as is in the United States, but Somoza did not care and ran presidency again as a third
term. The economy went down after that as well. The Sandinistas had at first thought of helping the
people but power made them see and showed them how to use it in a different

Gay Families are Still Families Essay
While a popular catchphrase states that family is a circle of friends that love you , from a legal
standpoint, the word family requires definition. Traditionally, a family has been defined as a married
heterosexual couple and their children, but as more and more states are legalizing same sex marriage,
new questions arise. Regardless of one s position about whether gay marriage should be legal, it is
clear that the definition of family is changing and the legal system will need to address these changes.
Whether it is determining who should be a custodial parent, clarifying adoption processes, or
implementing legal protections in cases of divorce, family law must grow and change along with the
definition of family. Through my research, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article The Peculiar Mechanics of Gay Divorce is a wealth of anecdotes and pull quotes from field
authorities. Because these articles are for mass consumption magazines, their tone is generally neutral,
and journalistic practice has established them as credible sources. One specific resource upon which I
have been heavily reliant in developing my thesis has been The Future Impact of Same Sex Marriage:
More Questions Than Answers. This paper, written by a Professor of Law at Georgetown University,
delves into the historical background of marriage in America, provides statistics on same sex couples,
and introduces questions on how legalization of gay marriage will impact American law (Hunter). Its
sources provide a wealth of additional information, to be explored further during the research process.
Like my other sources, is neutral on what response the courts should have, while addressing the
importance of setting precedent in the cases that are sure to arise. I have found several portals to
information regarding same sex marriage, and will be utilizing these as a method to uncover more
anecdotal and statistical information that relates to my topic. These sources will allow my
point/counterpoint to have a much broader range than if I were to rely on direct field research, as they
will allow me to cover a diverse spectrum of cases and demographics. While my base might be

The Prayer On Public Schools
For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an ongoing
debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality of prayer in
public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government and legal
philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such major
constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion, and the
respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on the issue in
1962, the United States Supreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing with school
prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and highly
momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant between
people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the constitution
supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For the ones who
oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The United States has
had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early 20th Century, prayer
was an accepted feature of public education. During the 18th and 19th centuries, America continued a
de facto Christian homeland, and public school curriculum imitated this fact. The modern,

Testing for rank gives individuals the opportunity to show the instructors how much they have grown as a Taekwondo participant. The testing consists of Forms (patterns of punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes), One Steps/Sparring Combinations (specified combinations of punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes that are designed to ease individuals into sparring), Sparring (actual trading of blows), and Breaking Wood (breaking inch thick wooden boards). This is reflected in the almost military like structure where commands are given at the top and those under authority must comply without question. Almost everything is ritualized such as bowing before certain activities and replying with a Yes sir or Yes Ma am . The fact that we stretched as a group in unison and counted out loud at the same pace shows just how structured Taekwondo is. Those who stand out from the rest are called out for violating rules and are publically addressed. This lack of individuality also makes it hard for individuals to question the structure or bring up different perspective about how sessions should be run. There are also conflicting ideologies at play. Do we honor the values and tradition of Taekwondo? Do we implement other ways of doing things? Is there a middle ground? Can certain things be negotiable, such as the dress code? There are a lot of questions that go unanswered because there is a lack of opportunity for dialogue between individuals and the Head ... • 4. The Metabolism Movement The Metabolism movement is known as a modern architecture movement, which emerged from japan. The movement had its blooming start during the World Design Congress held at Tokyo in 1960, when a group of young architects and designers, who called themselves Metabolists, presented their radical and visionary proposals of urban and architectural schemes. Among the schemes that were presented were the Marine city and the Tower shape city by Kiyonori Kikutake. This presentation introduced the motabolist movement to the audience. The main members of the movement were architects Kiyonori Kikutake, Masato Otaka, Fumihiko Maki, Noriaki Kurokawa, the architectural critic Noboru Kawazoe. And Kenzo Tange who is recognized as the mentor of these Metabolists. The architects involved envisioned the ideal city, and planned experimental architecture and cities that are adaptable to change they developed flexible buildings, houses that could expand or shrink according to demand, cities that were sustainable, with buildings made of recyclable materials. All of this visions and views were arose as a response to reconstruct japan after the human and environmental disaster that followed the atomic bombing of Japan during the World War II. • 5. Measuring The Load Pattern Of Measuring A Minimum Of Two... In some cases, lateral force shapes result to good approximation of demand displacements. Nevertheless, there has not been found any constant loading for exact approximation of local mechanisms and plastic hinges. Earthquake codes have made it mandatory to use a minimum of two lateral load patterns in nonlinear static procedure. These two load patterns are chosen to cover resulting forces in actual dynamic response of the structure. There are two load patterns which are used mostly in usual studies: uniform and modal load pattern. When using uniform load pattern, called also constant acceleration pattern, lateral forces applied to the structure are proportional to the mass of the building stories. This load pattern emphasizes on bottom floors demands more than top floor demands. It also increases the importance of shear in stories against overturning moment while modal load pattern emphasizes overturning moment and story demands. The FEMA356 code allows using comparative load pattern instead of constant load pattern. In this method the load pattern varies by plastic hinges as the displacements in the structure increase. Obviously, none of these shapes of constant loading can perform redistribution of inertia forces which occur with the first local mechanism and change of dynamic properties of the structure. Therefore, it is interesting to find a load shape which is closer to the variation of inertia forces distribution and gives a better approximation of the behavior of ... • 6. Plato s Conception Of The Physical World Of Forms Plato believes that there were two worlds. The inferior is the world of appearances which we can experience with our five senses. The other is the word of Forms which we cannot experience with our senses. He believes that as the physical world is always changing it cannot be perfect as nothing is eternal, however in the world of appearances every Form is immutable therefore is perfect. Our soul was once in the world of Forms and longs to go back there. Our physical body cannot enter the world of Forms as it is not immutable, therefore our soul cannot return to the world of forms until it is released from our body and we die. In the world of Forms the ideas for the physical world exist as immutable and perfect. This means that everything we see in the world of appearances will spark knowledge about something we learned when our soul was in the world of Forms; however it will always be imperfect and open to debate as nothing that changes can be perfect therefore can leave room for opinion. Plato believed that there was that there is a truth that cannot be obtained through the imperfect, changing world of appearances. • 7. The Evolution Of Tetra Pods It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals, from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408 360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer, A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration, efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider range of habitats and on land. Amid the period symbolized by the rule of British ruler Queen Victoria, women were not liable to have the right to sue, suffrage rights, or the right to own property. In the meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking after the Industrial Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes, the women s suffrage movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last years of the Victorian age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the domestic sphere and this stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and raising children. Alex Owen puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as The categorisation of so called female virtues found its expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the spiritually refined angel in the house woman as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of influence was the home and domesticity (7). By making domesticity seem desirable to the Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them behind doors. Owen further explains the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, In analysing many discourses which together constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic literature written for, and often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was underpinned by certain major constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of innate female passivity, a negative attribute constructed in opposition to so called masculine will power. Along with this went the concepts of female frailty, constructed in opposition to a standard masculine strength and virility; a moral and spiritual sensibility which acted as the ... Prior to the signing of NAFTA, Article 27 Section VII in the Mexican Constitution guaranteed land reparations to indigenous groups all throughout Mexico. With the signing of NAFTA, Article 27 Section VII was instantly removed. This article of the constitution is extremely important to the Zapatista movement given that it was the cornerstone of Emiliano Zapata s work during the Mexican revolution. • 16. Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders. The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and pursue personal excellence. These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education. The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. Comparing the Presentation of War in the Oliver and Branagh Film Versions of Henry the Fifth Many films have been made of Shakespeare s play, Henry V . The two I am analysing are by Laurence Olivier (1944) and Kenneth Branagh (1988). They are made for very different audiences with different aims. Although they seem very different, in some ways, Branagh s version used many techniques of Olivier s. Both productions were performed to communicate the director s feelings on war to the audience and were performed when war had played a part in recent history. The spirit of whose ancestors it has been humbly attempted to recapture. This is intended to make the audience feel proud to be fighting for England as their ancestors did. Being produced during the Second World War, many of the viewers may have had relatives out in battle. They had no clear idea of the reality due to the lack of technology and communication. The light hearted view of the battles reassured the audience. It is shown very patriotically and heroically so the audiences would feel good about the war and have felt proud to be English. The French in this film may have represented the Germans in the war as the enemy. In the battle the enemy is shown as evil to make the audience feel they re doing the right thing fighting evil. Branagh s film was set many years later when society was more immune to shocking films and television programmes. He presents a dynamic king duped into fighting a bloody, vicious war whose victory is undone within a generation. Olivier s version is quite pro war whereas Branagh s version seems very anti war. This film portrays his negative attitude to war by emphasising the realism of the battle. The gore and realistic fighting will have shocked the audience and may have allowed them to consider the conditions in Vietnam. • 21. The Palatine Chapel At Aachen The Palatine Chapel at Aachen, Germany is an example of Early Christian medieval architecture and one of the earliest examples of Carolingian architecture. The Palatine Chapel was contrasted between the years of 790 and 805 by architect Odo of Metz. Metz created the chapel for Emperor Charlemagne, who ruled during the second half of the eighth century. Charlemagne was a strong new force that emerged on the continent, and his ruling brought out new ideas, architecture and religion to the people under his ruling. It was under Charlemagne, that the new dynasty of Carolingian was created, and with his expansion, he brought this dynasty to many different places around the continent. Carolingian architecture is influenced by styles from past western capitals, this implies The Palatine Chapel as it is influenced from past architecture as well. He admired many other architectural pieces and used many other pieces as inspirations for one of the earliest examples of the Carolingian style. It is noted that the chapel was a strong way to represent the religion of Christianity, however it can also be said that the chapel was a way to represent Charlemagne and all the things he wished for the people under his rule. The making of the chapel in more ways is strongly connected to the Christian religion. Figure 1: Modifiable and non modifiable risk factors affecting the prevalence of Coronary Heart Disease in Australia [19] Modifiable Risk Factors Non Modifiable Risk Factors Obesity Increasing age Hyperlipidemia Gender Excessive alcohol and tobacco use Family history Psychological stress Heredity Prevalence of CHD over the past century As shown in Figure 2 (Page 2), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) observed a 73% decrease in mortality caused by CHD, between 1968 and 2011 [2]. More specifically, the decline in the mortality rate occurred in the late 1960s, where these changes were most evidence in males and females aged 55 64 and 65 74 years respectively [21]. As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page 2), the mortality rate in men aged 35 44 and 45 54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to older men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall decline had only been hindered in the 45 54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age groups [21]. Tasks of Mourning There are several models on grief, however this author believes that one of the most significant is William Worden s four tasks of grieving model. According to Leming and Dickinson, 2010, mourning is necessary for all individuals who have experienced loss and there are four tasks of mourning one must accomplish before the mourning process can be completed. These four tasks are as follows: to accept the realty of loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to an environment in which the person is absent, and to withdraw emotional energy and reinvest it in another relationship. Worden suggested that if the tasks are not completed, the individual will struggle to develop and grow (Worden, 1982). This model has a unique application to nursing because it suggests that certain actions can be done through the control of the mourner in order to facilitate the grieving process. Even more significant is that nurses with knowledge of this theory will be able to help guide grievers through this process. Accept the reality of Loss The goal of this step is to help the griever accept the reality of the loss. While this can be especially difficult in situations where the death is sudden, it is important to overcome the response of denial. Essay on Political Parties in the United States Political Parties in the United States There are numerous political parties in the United States and they all have no strict requirements for membership. That means whatever group you want to belong to you can. There are also no membership lists that are maintained. Some of the ways to determine party affiliation comes from voting surveys and public opinion polls. The majority of voters in America consider themselves to be Democrats. Party identification does not mean that who is you will vote for. There are several Democrats who will vote for Republicans in the presidential election. This is much more common in the United States than in any other major country. The most common parties are the Democratic and Republican ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This party was established in the 1790 s. The Democratic Republicans were led by Thomas Jefferson and supported a weak central government. They believed that the states and citizens should retain the rights and powers and that the constitution should be strictly interpreted. Jefferson was president from 1801 to 1809. The National Republican Party arose when the Democratic Republican Party split during John Quincy Adam s presidency from 1825 to 1829. The split pitted the party against the followers of Andrew Jackson. During this time other groups formed the Whig Party. Andrew Jackson was elected president in 1828. Most historians regard the campaign organization of Jackson as the beginning of today s Democratic Party. Jackson and his followers were known as Democrats by about 1830. The Democratic Party is the oldest existing political party in the United States. It is said to have began in the 1790 s as Jefferson s Democratic Republican Party. This party was formed to fight the Bill of Rights and against the elitist Federalist Party. In 1800 Jefferson was elected the first Democratic President of the United States. Jefferson served two terms and was followed by James Madison in 1808. Madison helped to strengthen the armed forces in America by defeating the British in the War of 1812. James Monroe was elected in 1816 and served with little opposition. The election of John Quincy Adams in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child abuse in 1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014). Many people hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are correct in thinking of physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the CDC shows that although physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or psychological abuse is the second leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think sexual abuse along with physical abuse would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as often as it used to. In fact, it is now being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse (Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a child are countless as well as life changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the CDC as drug abuse, sexual transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014). When a child who has been abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog that has been abused by its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a skeptical attitude (Fink, A. H., Janssen, K. N, 1992). They are constantly avoiding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Philadelphia Chromosome Report The book The Philadelphia Chromosome by Jessica Wapner follows the story of how a fatal disease called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia became one of the first targets of kinase inhibitors for targeted cancer therapies. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) affects only a small number of people (an estimated 8,500 diagnoses this year), but was until recently considered a fatal disease. Gleevec, a drug created by Novartis (mostly) that targeted the BCR/ABL protein in CML patients. This protein causes a tyrosine kinase to uncontrollably phosphorylate myeloid cells in bone marrow. The BCR/ABL protein is caused by a gene mutation known as The Philadelphia Chromosome, which is an abnormality in chromosome 22. This abnormality is caused by a gene translocation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His goal is to find out how this gene leads to CML in patients, and hopefully, find a way to stop it. The bcr/abl protein constantly tells cells, specially myeloid cells, that it is time to divide, causing uncontrollable replication, and these cells have a mutation in them, they don t die like normal cells do, causing the body to overflow with these useless cancer cells. Researches at Ciba Giegy began working on a way to inhibit the bcr/abl tyrosine kinases from signaling to cells. This work resulted in a compound known as STI 571, which was a targeted kinase inhibitor. One of the fears this team faced was, if you inhibit a kinase, do you inhibit them all? Causing the patient to die, or can you manage to only inhibit a single type of kinase, leaving the rest alone to do their jobs. By 1996, Gleevec (STI 571) was shown to kill cancer cells, while leaving normal cells healthy. In 1998, Ciba Giegy (now Novartis) was ready to start phase 1 clinical trials in patients. By 2001, the FDA approved the drug for used in the treatment of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1967, a man known as Anastasio Somoza, was announced as president. Since his father, Somoza Garcia, was already disliked it did not help him at all when he was announced president. Anastasio let the power of being president get over his head and eventually enriched himself. In civilians eyes he was corrupt and he proved that when an earthquake hit Nicaragua. He had declared to use the emergency powers and while that took place he headed a different direction. He decided to steal the aid coming in for Nicaragua for himself. This was one of the main reasons why the Sandinista Revolution came to be, known as the Sandinista National Liberation Front. The Sandinistas did not believe that the message they were trying to get towards the Nicaraguan business negotiators so they decided to take things into their own hands and measures. This lead to the kidnapping of certain powerful people in politics to make a statement towards them. the Sandinistas continued to revolt towards the regime and started to gain support of Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, and Cuba. This continuation of fighting the regime went on until the middle of 1979, when the Somoza Rule had lost power of Nicaragua. The Sandinistas gained control of the new government of Nicaragua. Once the Sandinistas gained control of Nicaragua, drastic changes took place. Somoza had decided to run for president even though it was unconstitutional. The Constitution states that the terms of presidency is only 2 terms as is in the United States, but Somoza did not care and ran presidency again as a third term. The economy went down after that as well. The Sandinistas had at first thought of helping the people but power made them see and showed them how to use it in a different ... • 46. Gay Families are Still Families Essay While a popular catchphrase states that family is a circle of friends that love you , from a legal standpoint, the word family requires definition. Traditionally, a family has been defined as a married heterosexual couple and their children, but as more and more states are legalizing same sex marriage, new questions arise. Regardless of one s position about whether gay marriage should be legal, it is clear that the definition of family is changing and the legal system will need to address these changes. Whether it is determining who should be a custodial parent, clarifying adoption processes, or implementing legal protections in cases of divorce, family law must grow and change along with the definition of family. Through my research, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article The Peculiar Mechanics of Gay Divorce is a wealth of anecdotes and pull quotes from field authorities. Because these articles are for mass consumption magazines, their tone is generally neutral, and journalistic practice has established them as credible sources. One specific resource upon which I have been heavily reliant in developing my thesis has been The Future Impact of Same Sex Marriage: More Questions Than Answers. This paper, written by a Professor of Law at Georgetown University, delves into the historical background of marriage in America, provides statistics on same sex couples, and introduces questions on how legalization of gay marriage will impact American law (Hunter). • 47. The Prayer On Public Schools For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an ongoing debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality of prayer in public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government and legal philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such major constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion, and the respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on the issue in 1962, the United States Supreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing with school prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and highly momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant between people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the constitution supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For the ones who oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The United States has had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early 20th Century, prayer was an accepted feature of public education. During the 18th and 19th centuries, America continued a de facto Christian homeland, and public school curriculum imitated this fact. The modern, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
