The documentary, Solitary Confinement, really brings to light the issues that
surround this old form of punishment. These tactics were used in the past, and then
were eventually regarded as being cruel and inhumane. Somehow, the idea of
solitary confinement has returned and is respected among many people. I believe
that there are some people who do need to be put in solitary confinement and some
who shouldn t have to go through that psychological pain. The movie did shine some
perspective on to me, as i had not nearly any clue as to what really went down behind
those walls.
First of all, at Colorado State Penitentiary, they call it administrative segregation
rather than solitary confinement. This is because their goal is supposedly, just to cut
them off from physical contact until they are determined to be safe around other
people. The feelings projected by the men being interviewed in the documentary tie
in with the feelings that Stanley Tookie Williams expressed in his book, Life in Prison
. All of the inmates, including Stanley, acknowledged that solitary confinement, or
the hole, causes people to go crazy. Stanley complained of the small cells and how it
made many men go stir crazy. In the film, they showed exactly how small the cells are
and the limited room for activity that the inmates have. The images in the

highly progressive comedy in which women are empowered and are given meaning

there are many things that point the over way, mainly the portrayal of secondary

The system of involuntary labor in 18th century America came in two forms of
indentured servitude and slavery. Since the arrival of European colonialist in the
1700s, these forms of labor were exercised, though indentured servitude was the

In this paper I am interested to analyse AnjanDutta sThe Bong Connection (2006),
a representative, popular Bangla cinema on the Bengali diaspora in North
America. This film, I argue, attempts to demystify the aura of homeland and
nostalgia as idolised in Bollywood cinema. The liberalisation of Indian economy
and socio cultural growth of the Indian middle class in the nineties, prompted
Bollywood film makers such as Yash Chopra and Karan Johar to import and
recreate glitzy versions of the Non Resident Indian for the Indian masses. Hindi

International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), represent the norms that were
introduced by IASB. Being an independent organization that was not operational to
earn profits, IASB, also known as, International Accounting Standards Board,
incepted IFRS to facilitate public companies around the globe. IFRS presented a
framework that served as a guide for these corporations directing them on preparation
and disclosure of the financial statements. The International Financial Reporting
Standardsoffered general guidance to the seekers concerning the financial statements.
The standards never strived to set industry specific reporting principles or regulations.
The U.S. GAAP represents the set of accounting principles that strictly abide by the
laws and regulations. The U.S. GAAP, also known as, Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles, encompass the legal norms, complex mechanisms and
through details for corporate accounting. The U.S. GAAP standards are often
perceived as building blocks for the decisions taken by FASB, also known as,
Financial Accounting Standards Board. GAAP served as a legal and regulatory
standard for the companies operational and listed on the stock exchanges in the
United States.

Throughout history, women have often been viewed as less capable and less
important than men. In I, Being Born a Woman, Millay uses language, meter, and
satire to express her opinion not only on her right to define her own life but to put
herself first. The poem is written in first person narrative and while it is possible
Millay wrote the poem with herself in mind as narrator, the identity of the narrator is

Each of the two experiments carried out by Milgram and Zimbardo had
questionable ethics in their procedure. Ethics is defined as Moral principles that
govern a person s behaviour or the conducting of an activity (Oxford Dictionaries,
2016). In psychology, ethics are moral guidelines when conducting social
experiments such as these, so that the dignity of each participant is respected and
preserved. This piece of work will evaluate the perceived ethicsin Milgram s
experiment of human obedience to authority figures, and Zimbardo s experiment of
conformity to roles, and also provide an overall conclusion on whether or not these
studies were ethical.
One of the guidelines for experiments is to give participants informed consent. This
means that they should be fully aware of the nature of the experiment, and any risks
which the participants may be subjected to. In Milgram s study, he told participants
that the experiment was to test human learning through a memory game, which was
partially true. In reality, however, the focus point was on obedience to authority
figures, and the extent to which people would inflict pain on another individual
simply because they were told to. This immediately breaches one of the guidelines,
as participants were deceived and the true nature of the experiment was hidden. An
issue with deception, however, is it cannot be avoided in all cases in order to
