2. I researched different types of fonts
that present my genre and
investigated which font would look
similar and would fit not only the look
of my artist but the look of the Jazz
genre too.
This font is from DaFont, as it had a
range of different fonts which would
fit the look I was thinking of.
I looked at this font first, as the
bold lettering reaches out to me as
a retro, ‘jazzy’ look, that stands out
more than any other font, which is
vital on an album cover, as the
album needs to stand out more
than any other album on the shelf,
to grab the audience’s attention.
I also tested out a different colour, as from my
research I found that most Jazz album covers
have colourful lettering. This is because it
shows the fun, relaxed vibe that jazz music
makes people feel.
3. I really liked this font as it also
represented the jazz genre.
This is because the letters
look like keyboards, which are
key features in jazz music.
This is also the reason I
preferred this font style in
black and white.
I also think this font style
looks more feminine because
the outside edge isn’t as bold
as the font before, therefore
I’d be more inclined to use
this for my artist as I am
thinking of a female.
4. I tested out a more simple and
effective font to investigate further.
This font is from Fonts.com. This is
because I was thinking that
although this doesn’t fit the jazz
genre as much, it therefore may
not take the attention away from
the main image on the front cover.
I also researched different
colours that jazz musicians use
for their album covers, and
realised that it’s mostly multi-
coloured. This stands out and
feels like more of a melody
and rhythm, almost like a
xylophone would look like,
linking to the different types
of instruments in jazz music.
5. Lastly, I wanted to research into a more of a
‘night time’ looking font, as it has a sparkly
looking style to it, therefore I thought of a
disco ball when looking at it, so there’s a
little more ‘party like’ connotation coming
from the font, making it seem like the
audience doesn’t have to just listen to this
music in the daytime, it can follow through
to the night as well and the audience will
enjoy it just as much.
I also liked the boldness of this font,
therefore it will stand out in front of the
image on my front cover, so the name is
recognisable to new potential fans too.
