2. Photoshop edited – I used the ‘replace tool’ in the adjustments menu to alter the colour of the hair and the tights. I created four different versions because I liked the idea of multiple poses and I couldn’t choose between the pictures. Photoshop drawn. 1 This title is also on the front cover, I used a text from Dafont.com called mutlu.
3. Photoshop drawn – I arranged the auto shapes by eye on Photoshop. 2 - The sky background on the page was also done on Photoshop. (In case no one got my band title – suki means ‘like’ and can sound like ‘sky’ if you say it In a different way – and that’s why it’s the sky.)
4. Voca Love is joined by Suki-Line this month, a.k.a Sara Kiseki. We got an exclusive interview with the online sensation about her songs and the life of a virtual/real idol duo. Sara lives in Gloucester, with her family and still attends school like any other teenage girl. However her fame began when she took a keen interest in the popular singing synthesis idols, known as vocaloids. Many of you will know her songs which she has made along with Miku Hatsune’ voice software. Song’s such as ‘Ano hi wa tsumetai’ and her cover of ‘MELT’, originally made by Ryo. Sara’s voice began reaching vocaloid fans in the millions in 2010. Since then she has signed a record deal with ‘Imagine-cut studios’, the top dealers in international music along with her manager and sister, Joa Kiseki. Manager’s quote: ‘ I didn’t like vocaloid straight away and never though about going into the music business. But when Sara showed me her songs on Youtube and all of the views she got, I just knew I had to help her out. Her stage surname means miracle in Japanese. It’s rather fitting really, considering she’s never had a singing lesson. ’ She has already toured the UK with her manager and band and is said to be the most frequent vocaloid online chart topper, even in Japan. We asked her a variety of questions starting with how did you find out about vocaloid? Sara says ‘ I found it the same way everyone else did, browsing Youtube. I think that the first song I heard was ‘MELT’ and I instantly wanted to know more. Of course before I found it, there was already an online community of vocaloid lovers. At this point, I was sold. ’ So basically you could say you’re a fan? ‘ Yeah, that’s a better way to put it. ’ Would you say that It’s your love of vocaloid or the fame that makes you sing. ‘ Oh, definitely vocaloid, just the concept is more than enough. If I couldn’t sing, then I would make the videos for the songs, or edit or something. As long as it’s Vocaloid I’d do it…Of course the fame is nice as well.’ What do people around you think about your career? ‘My family’s really supportive and my friends are still the same. I think that everyone’s just been so understanding, so I’d like to thank those people especially. Ah!...but my mum still wants me to be a doctor, ha-ha.’ We’ve received a lot of the same type of question from our online forums, what advice would you give to others like to you? ‘First of all, don’t do what I do! Because you could probably do a lot better. There’s nothing special about me really, we could all be doing this; the true reason for my success is behind the fans who love vocaloid as much as I do. Just keep doing what you do with ‘ai’, that’s the secret.’ So we’ve all heard talk of a new album, what does this entail for all of your listeners out there? ‘ Hmm...now let me see…that one is most definitely...a secret! All that I can tell you now is that I’ve got a great new concept with the songs in the album so everyone please look forward to it and keep up your great support. 5. 4 I tried using the bold images of her as well, however I felt that these made the page feel lighter and bubbly. The image above is supposed to represent her off stage personality, which is what the fans would want to see.
6. 5 I added in some music magazine feature like concert tour dates, Eye-catching phrases, page numbers and the idols favorites.
7. For extra fun, I added in a silly idol’s database, these are very common in music magazines, especially if a band is featured. 6
8. 7 That’s it! I added the finishing touches, like the banner at the top and filled the pink arrow with a pattern instead. The more detail on the page the more interesting it looks.
