Rethinking The Active Learning Movement Essay
Rethinking the Active Learning Movement It was Never All or Nothing
Over the past 25 years the movement to adopt learner centered pedagogy has gained main stream
acceptance, to the point that all higher education faculty are expected to include such methods in every
class. Educational critiques, opinion editorials, research and data have driven policy and practice
towards the universal application of active learning techniques in place of traditional lecturing. In the
Report to the President (2012) the executive summary committed to evidence based teaching
strategies, namely active learning strategies, to increase student learning. Although this report drives
the curriculum for STEM disciplines, this same push is occurring across disciplines. The commitment
to adopt active learning has become a mantra reverberating across disciplines lecture less / include
more activities in your classroom. The realization that learning increases with the incorporation of
student engagement activities (CITe the CHART RESEARCHER) was just that: evidence that student
involvement in the learning process increases learning. It was not a prescription to abandon the
lecture, entirely. Yet somehow over the years professionals have taken to the practice of thinking
dichotomously about teaching falling into one of two categories: 1) passive learning and 2) active
learning. Furthermore in such instances we are lead to think that all passive learning is bad teaching
and to the

Examples Of Argumentative Essay On The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby Argumentative Essay
In the novel the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the observations of the character named Nick
Carraway reflects upon the life of Jay Gatsby and his surroundings. The 20th century is masked by the
glamour and parties. It displays a wondrous era full of wealth. Even though money is the key to this
fantasy it is just that... a fantasy. The happiness and reality of life fails to complete on behalf of these
rich people. Gatsby seems to have all the riches and fame, although these things cannot fulfil the
happiness he desires of Daisy Buchanan.
The roaring twenties was a era that defines the word magnetism. It attracts people to this day because
of the beauty and golden environment. Jay Gatsby symbolizes the thriving society of this era. He
could acquire anything he desires at any moment needed. Although, once time passes the desires
become a normality. The excitement of obtaining a new object or going to explore seize. Gatsby loses
the happiness once felt and begins to feel the loneliness within his heart. Bliss and happiness reflects
upon those receiving love of some sort. In this case, Gatsby lacks this precious gift. In acquiring
Daisy, a long lost love, he believes his life will find its meaning. ... Show more content on

Carraway observes his odd behaviors and soon discovers of the sparkling love within these two. He
watches the love of two forbidden souls thrive in each other s presence. The smile Gatsby holds stands
out from any other time in the novel for the simple fact of it being genuine. The author assures the
reader of the 20th century for the example of true happiness. All the amazing aspects override the
novel in order to prove this point. Gatsby could be the richest man alive, but to look into his life such
as Carraway did the reality would

Generating High Revenue in an Organization
1. Executive Summary
An organizations main objective would be to generate high revenue and maximize profits. To generate
this high revenue, it would be the employees who would be working hard strategically and showing
high performances to drive the organization towards achieving that goal. High performance could be
achieved only by well motivated people who are prepared to exercise an extra effort. Even in fairly
basic roles, there is some level of motivation involved.
In a research by Hunter et al (1990), it was found that the difference in value added discretionary
performance between superior and standard performers was 19 percent. For highly complex jobs it
was 48 per cent. (Armstrong and Armstrong, 2009)
To motivate people it is necessary to understand the types of motivation and how it works with each
skill level of people. The videos and statements by Daniel Pink, Professor Jim Collins and Kathy
Schofield taken in this context give an in depth insight into the importance motivation and self
motivating environment.
2. Analysis of the videos and the statements
Drive Daniel Pink
Daniel Pink is the author of five popular books which focus on the changing workplace. In Dan Pink s
video about the drive he critically analyses the traditional thinking where it is believed that more
reward gives better performance, whereas when you punish something you get lesser of that. It was
found out through two experiments that only for simple and mechanical tasks,

Nazi Invasion Personal Response
Connection Did you ever hear about The Nazi Invasion? If no, this book will tell you about the Nazi
Invasion on the Jews, and how Hitler did violins on them. While I was reading the ending of the book,
The author tried to give us lots of messages from the book. For example, never thinks negative, be
brave, first think and then do the action, and never give up.On page 70 the author stated that when
Max got hit by the soldier s gun in front of his little sister Zena. Max then leaned on the Nazi soldier,
so this made the soldier trigger the gun and south himself on the leg because the gun flips around, so
then they ran away in the deep wood finding their Anti and in the way finding their dad. So my
connection from the paragraph was that when I was living in India five years I was 6 and my younger
sister 3 years old. So one day when I walking to school with my older sister my little sister followed
us on the way. But we got to the school, but not my sister ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Football Head Injury Research
In today s NFL, injuries, particularly head injuries, have become a common occurrence regardless of
the amount of preventative training that the athletes invest in. These reoccurring head injuries have led
to the deaths of former players and yet, instead of their families accepting that it was the player s
decision to continue playing, they somehow choose to blame the NFL as if the NFL committee were
the ones creating the injuries to happen or forcing them to play through it. The NFL isn t to blame for
concussions sustained while playing the game because the coaches, medical staff, and players allow
continuous play, creation of financial aid programs, new injury policies, and new equipment
technology.
First of all, the NFL isn t to blame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NFL understands the severity of injuries will continue to increase due to players today becoming
bigger, faster, and stronger than they use to be. This is where creating more efficient equipment comes
in to effect. With head injuries being the spotlight in the NFL recent years, endless research has been
conducted to create helmets that reduce impact for the players. In 2012, manufacturers conducted a
test which consisted of 23 different impacts on 17 types of modern football helmets and comparing
those results to helmets of the 1990s that are still cleared to be used in the NFL. The four helmets had
significantly improved performance compared to the 1990s baseline helmets. The Schutt DNA PRO
(#5) and the Riddell Revolution (#4), IQ (#9), and Revolution Speed (#7) has statistically lower
biomechanical responses and better for attenuation than the 1990s baseline helmets (Viano, 2012).
Along with the field tests of these new improved helmets, was research on if on field performance is
different in players who return within seven days after a concussion compared with players who
missed at least one game. This was conducted on players who actively played in the NFL from 2008 to
2012 who wore these improved helmets as opposed to the helmets created in the 90s. After these tests
were complete, there was no difference in player performance and concussion rates have actually gone
down from 1996 to 2012 when this study was conducted. Advancements in helmet technology has
become quite successful as players safety, concussions, and the actions the NFL has taken to improve
on both, have become a huge spotlight in the sports

Biologically Enhancing Soldiers

Biologically Enhancing Soldiers
Our ability to upgrade the bodies of soldiers through drugs, implants, and exoskeletons may be
upending the ethical norms of war as we ve understood them.I first saw in the movie, Captain
America. The only difference now is that this possibility is slowly becoming a possible reality. The
possibilities are endless by doing this to soldiers, whom are willing of going thru the process. From
having soldiers that don t need sleep or only need to eat 1 MRE ( Meal Ready to Eat) a week. Almost
any idea we could think of in biologically improving a soldier, could actually happen, and will only
benefit the soldier and the military as a whole.
Imagine if you were a soldier, stuck behind enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea is a win win for both the military and US population by simply how it saves money and
food.
The use of human enhancement technologies by the military is not new. Broadly construed,
vaccinations could count as an enhancement of the human immune system, and this would place the
first instance of military human enhancement (as opposed to mere tool use) at our very first war, the
American Revolutionary War in 1775 1783. George Washington, as commander in chief of the
Continental Army, ordered the vaccinations of American troops against smallpox, as the British Army
was suspected of using the virus as a form of biological warfare. Having said that, how can one argue
that this isn t a safe or legal action due to the fact that the first President. George Washington, gave the
orders to due so?
Due to these enhancements being biologically, and one of the ideas is enhancing soldiers to not feel
pain or possibly even fear. Everyone is aware that war is a terrifying place. Imagine an army of
soldiers that do not feel pain or even fear itself. Being able to take bullets without even flinching.
Also, having the possibility of giving someone the ability to not feel fear would advance our military
to an indescribable level. By not feeling fear, soldiers decision making would speed up, and be more
reasonably do to not being scared. What if a soldier gets captured and is tortured

Coherentism and Foundationalism
Foundationalism vs. Coherentism Throughout history, philosophers have been trying to come up with
a clear way to provide the justification of our beliefs and knowledge. Noah Lemos offers readers
explanations of both foundationalism and coherentism for theories of justification. These two different
theories offer very different ways to explain the basis of our beliefs. For a foundationalist, they believe
that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic belief. This belief would be largely
independent of other beliefs and not derived from other beliefs. A coherentist feels that a belief can be
reasonably justified if it is coheres with our other beliefs. The foundationalist theory of justification
boils everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A coherentist however, would justify that the pot is hot through other beliefs that cohere with this
belief. Some of these coherent beliefs would be: the remaining coffee in the pot is hot, the coffee is
freshly brewed which would mean it is hot, I can see steam coming from the coffee in my mug, the
coffee I ve had every other day this week from the same pot have been hot and I can feel the warmth
from the mug in my hand. All of these beliefs are not basic as a foundationalist would like, but they all
cohere and provide reasonable justification for me to believe that the coffee in my mug is hot. It is my
opinion that coherentists have a better argument for beliefs, and more specifically, this example. While
I do think that there are many basic beliefs that are justified simply because they just are, I am not
convinced that all the beliefs we have in this world can be broken down quite in this way. I do
however, feel that many of our beliefs are based in a web of other believes that all support each other.
I know that my coffee is hot for many reasons, one being that I can feel it. I don t think that I
necessarily need to break it down into experiences when I have many other clues that could more
easily justify my belief. There are so many clues and beliefs around me to justify my belief that it s not
necessary to try and deduce anything. There are way too many complicated beliefs in the world that I
do not feel they can all be traced back to basic

What Is Concept Change
What is concept change? For example, the article A General Overview of Conceptual Change
Research says, It is important to understand that those who are involved in the conceptual change
research domain are concerned about much more than simply altering a particular belief. If this were
not the case, then it could be argued that conceptual change occurs every time someone changes his or
her mind, or learns something new about a certain issue act (Ruhf, 2003, P.1). This shows that a one
person can have a change over time. Concept change doesn t just happen over a day, it happens over a
long period of time. For example, Concept change is like building a puzzle and it takes time. In the

Intubated Patients Develop Ventilator Associated Pneumonia
Critically ill patients who are intubated on mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours of are at an
increased risk of 6 to 21 times of developing ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). Patients
intubated for lesser than 24 hours are at 3 times the risk of acquiring VAP.15 VAP is the parenchymal
lung infection and alveolitis, the accumulation of inflammatory exudates and infiltration of airway
mucosa can lead to unfavourable respiratory mechanics occurring at least 48 hours after initiation of
mechanical ventilation. VAP is one reason for high costs and prolonged length of hospital stay in the
intensive care units (ICU).9
The morbidity and mortality of VAP is increasingly high, mortality rates ranges from 20% to 41%.
The risk of development of VAP increases days of ventilation by 4 days, critical care by 4 days and
lengths of hospital stay by 9 days, respectively and these factors adds to additional costs per VAP
case.16
VAP prolongs the need for mechanical ventilation that may keep patients with a poor prognosis from
their underlying commodities in the ICU. Both these factors would increase the probability of death
rates in the ICU among patients who have developed VAP. 17
A prospective, matched cohort study was conducted to evaluate the attributable morbidity and
mortality of VAP in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. One hundred and seventy seven patients
developed VAP and stayed in the ICU for 4.3 days longer and had a trend toward an increase in risk of
death

Example Of Perspective Analysis
Perspective is defined as a point of view. From perspective, views can be altered, opinions can be
created, and lives can be changed. Throughout the literature that we have read this school year,
perspective is a cause of the all the conflicts. Perspective is the way that a person views a situation or
another person, which leads to a positive or negative relationship. When opinions in novels conflict,
the views are significantly altered. For instance, in the novel Speak, after Melinda Sordino called the
police to rescue her from the party, I called 911 because I needed help, (Anderson 136), the views on
Melinda were completely changed causing her middle school lab partners or gym buddies [to] glare at
[her], (3). Only because she called the police, her entire school completely detested her and despised

For instance, when the British officer in the novel Lord of the Flies, found the young boys on the
island, he claims that their experience on the island was entirely fun and games, creating the opinion
that they were only immature boys who saw being trapped on the island as a fun adventure. Also
because Jack and Ralph s perspective towards being on the island were completely different, negative
opinions of each other emerged. Jack wanted to hunt for pigs while Ralph s main goal was to figure
out the way off of the island. The conflict between goals was the drive or motive for the vicious and
murderous attacks between the two groups. Another way that perspective was able to create opinions
was when Carton confessed his unconditional love for Lucie to Lucie. Her perspective of Carton being
a write off, was changed because she now understood that there was more to Sydney Carton than what
he actually let on. Through perspective, more information and reason is added to the conflict between

their Shirley Temple mug and glaze at young Temple s blue eyes. One day Pecola is raped by her
father, when the child the she conceives dies, Pecola goes mad. She comes to believe that she has the
bluest eyes of anyone.
In the novel, The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison incorporates various techniques, such as her use of
metaphors, the ironic use of names, and the visual images that she uses. The theme of The Bluest Eye,
revolves around African Americans conformity to white standards. A woman may whiten her skin,
straighten her hair and change its color, but she can not change the color of her eyes. The desire to
transform one s identity, itself becomes an inverted desire, becomes the desire for blues eye, which is
the symptom of Pecola s instability.
The Bluest Eye opens with a Dick and Jane paragraph, a white American Myth far removed from the
realities illustrated in the novel. Thereafter, the black narrator Claudia MacTeer relates much of the
story, and the reminder, which concerns events that Claudia could not have witnessed, is narrated
mostly by an unidentified voice. Claudia s narrative reveals the guilt that for a long time plagued her
and her sister in connection with another girl s miscarriage. The girl, Pecola Breedlove, was pregnant
with her own father s child

his fortitude and interest. Likewise, the will to live outside the labyrinth. Be that as it may, Thomas did
not have more physical quality than alternate young men. The young men started to think, on the off
chance that he can, I can. Thomas was the living zone. The main purpose behind them not getting

The Controversy Over Free Will And Determinism
Introduction
It has been debated over centuries whether us humans have control over our destiny, and if we are
really able to decide on our own. The controversy between free will and determinism has been argued
about for years. If we look into a dictionary, free will is define as the power given to human beings to
be able to make free choices that is unconstrained by external circumstances or a force such as fate or
divine intervention. Determinism is defined as a philosophical doctrine that every event, act, and
decision is the inescapable consequence of antecedents that are independent of the human will.
Determinism states that humans have no free will to choose what they wish. Due to this fact,
contemporary philosophers cannot agree whether free will does exist, let alone it be a divine influence.
Three major Beliefs
There are three major arguments in the thought of free and they are libertarianism, compatibilism, and
fatalism. There are both a religious and secular position for this argument. The religious aspect of free
will is that it is an objective by God, while the secular position is subjective to causal determinism and
the effect of the physical and concrete things on the process of decision making.
In an article by Alvin Plantinga he tackled a few types of compatibilism, and he believes that he has
found an objective to serve as a middle ground in the free will debate. Plantinga believes that God had
already began the process, with an abrupt cause, and since

The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy
In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his
travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when
Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for
Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to
whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to
guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian,
these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as
physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote
the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely
excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed
women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group.
In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food
for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. Through the 1300 s women had a desire to voice
what they could achieve, so they started to speak out their opinions to the public. Women expressed in

Differences Between Arbitration And Mediation
Differences between Arbitration and Mediation: Arbitration occurs when a neutral third party hears a
dispute and imposes (Miller Cross, 2013) their decision on both parties. Mediation transpires when an
unbiased third party works with both sides to facilitate a resolution (Miller Cross, 2013). Arbitration
and mediation both work to find a solution to the conflict between two parties; but arbitration differs
from mediation through the role of the neutral third party, the formality of the process, the discovery
period of a case, and the type of decision. In both arbitration and mediation there is an impartial third
party. In arbitration, there tends to be more than one arbitrator. In arbitration, there is a panel of
multiple arbitrators ( Mediation , 2015), where one arbitrator is chosen by each side. Afterwards, the
two arbitrators then select a third ( Mediation , 2015) to complete the panel. The panel s role in
arbitration involves coming to decision after hearing parties testify under oath ( Comparison , 2015)
and examining the evidence presented. Unlike arbitration, mediators help both parties with the
discussion and eventual resolution ( Mediation , 2015) of their conflict and case. In a mediation, both
parties select a mediator to help create more understanding, which tends to be a less formal process
than that of an arbitration. The formality of an arbitration and a mediation varies due to their nature.
An arbitration is a

problem to analyze data that is being updated continuously on that trial. Apart from this problem, there
are many other obstacles like inaccurate results in search of a particular medical problem and even if
you do find accurate results, it becomes hard to put all information at one place retrieved from various
sources. In order to overcome the above problems, we are developing a one stop clinical trials user
friendly application that addresses all the related problems. In addition, we plan on providing a
platform for business users to analyze the stocks of the companies that are conducting the clinical
trials. Business users can benefit by making use of these analyses to make right choice before
investing on a stock. When a company starts the research on any disease, its stock prices see a change
relative to this research. If the research seems useful and helpful for the society, it grabs the attention
of the investors thereby, increases the stock prices of that firm. This analysis is carried out in this
project. 1.2 Problem and motivation There are numerous clinical trials being conducted around the
world every day. In spite of the technological advances like Internet,

My Experience At The End Of The Summer
We live in a world in which we are expected to work and survive; working provides the resources
needed for survival, but working does not necessarily bring happiness to our lives. When I was in high
school I got a summer job and was hoping for the best, before I even started working I had already
calculated how much I would earn at the end of the summer. Everything seemed perfect I was not
excited about having to wake up early but I knew I could manage it and I did. For three consecutive
summers I worked packing fruit out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fig trees. The first week
on the job was fun and manageable; however, as time progressed I began to hate my life. I hated the
fact that I had to wake up at four in the morning and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I felt like I was sacrificing valuable time in order to do the most painful thing in the world. Marx
recognizes that external labour, labour in which man alienates himself, is a labour of self sacrifice, of
mortification. I did not feel embarrassed to be working out in the fields, but I did hate my life and I
felt like time was passing slowly. While working in the summer I made money but I also learned a lot.
Before working I knew that life could be difficult; however, I was never consciously aware of the
competition/envy that exists among workers. I had always heard my parents talk about their jobs and
they would mention greedy co workers but I thought that was just something they did in order to scare
me away from working. However, when I started working I realized that my parents were not playing
when they would tell me that people can be very greedy. At work not only did I experience subject
alienation, but I also experienced and saw how species alienation comes into play when individuals
compete for the resources available. The first week of work was very fun because everyone got along
and everyone worked together; however, by the third week the work environment was different.
People were now greedy with their things, the ladies did not want to share boxes or share the fruit,
even though all the workers were getting paid the same for the same exact work. At that moment

Art Of The Renaissance Art
Visual Arts of the Italian High Renaissance
Oscar Wilde, through the character Cyril in his essay The Decay of Lying, states that Life imitates Art
far more than Art imitates Life , arguing that the real world is a mirror and art represents what is truly
real (Wilde 38). While this argument may be possibly be true, but standing between what we call
reality and the world of the artistic resides the artist, who ultimately decides how to present the world
to his audience. Artists during the Renaissance and the later part of the period called the High
Renaissance in particular would strengthen the existing artistic techniques as well as create new
modes and methods to depict the world in a new and more exciting ways.

Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, more commonly called simply Raphael and
widely known as the Prince of Painters , was born in the Italian town of Urbino in the year 1483.
During his lifetime and career, Raphael was renowned primarily for his artistic skills as a painter and
for his frescoes, but later in he applied his skills to architectural endeavors and created designs for
both secular and religious buildings. As an architect he was well regarded and for his work on the
Santa Maria del Popolo Chapel as well as being granted a small commission for architectural work in

A Literary Analysis Of The Alchemist
Literary Analysis of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho What sets your heart on fire? What dreams are at
your core? According to Paulo Coelho this is called a Personal Legend. A Personal Legend is one s
hopes and dreams, what you have always wanted to accomplish (Coelho, 21). At the start of the novel,
we meet Santiago; an Andalusian shepherd with a dream of finding treasure in the Pyramids of Egypt,
yet does not know what he should do when he is confronted by his dream. But by the end of the novel
Santiago completely trusts his heart to guide him through an incredible journey. The theme of Coelho

From the beginning of the novel, Santiago constantly doubted his ability to continue on his journey.
Getting robbed marked that first unwanted thought of returning to his old life in Andalusia, I can
always go back to being a shepherd was what he thought. But as timed passed he began to consider
the fact that maybe [he would] never have another chance to get to the Pyramids in Egypt (Coelho,
64). Like the old saying You cannot change the direction of the wind, you can only adjust your sails,
Santiago realizes that when he thinks positively about his situation he is just a step closer to his
Personal Legend. After receiving an omen from the King in Tangiers, he thought to himself that this
wasn t a strange place, it was a new one (Coelho, 41), which ultimately made him feel more
comfortable about the situation. Also, when Santiago comes to face with the desert he must cross in
order to reach Egypt, he recalls, learning things from the sheep, and learning things from crystal...
[Which makes him think] can learn something from the desert, too (Coelho, 73). These lessons
Santiago has learned along the way enable him to get a positive look towards obstacles that lie ahead,

The Pay Model The McGraw−Hill Companies, 2004 2 Chapter 1 The Pay Model Think of all the
other employees, in addition to the performers, required for putting on a performance of Cats.
Electricians, trombonists, choreographers, dressers, janitors, nurses, vocal coaches, accountants,
stagehands, payroll supervisors, ushers, lighting technicians, ticket sellers the list goes on. Consider
the array of wages paid to these employees. Why does the swing get paid more than other performers?
Why does the performer get paid more (or less) than the trombonist? How are these decisions made,
and who is involved in making them? Whether the pay is our own or someone else s, compensation
questions engage our attention. Does the compensation received by all the people connected with Cats
matter? Most employers believe that how people are paid affects people s behaviors at work, which
affect an organization s chances of success. Compensation systems can help an organization achieve

The Causes And Effects Of The United States
Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail
wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when
they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands of
human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and staggering
statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer from this
plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the health and well
being of all life forms on earth.
Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution inflict
even more damage. Across the globe, from Beijing to the U.S. to Africa, we see, and contribute to the
causes of pollution daily. Because of harmful chemicals that waft up to the atmosphere, the ozone
faces depletion. Automobiles and other forms of transportation emit dangerous toxins, along with
putrid, black smoke that spews from the exhaust pipes of large vehicles. Smoke from factories
contributes generously to contamination, as well. Even natural disasters play a momentous role in air
pollution as exhibited by sulfur dioxide, a volcanic gas that kills those who come in contact with it and
leaves soil infertile for years (Pollution). Another substance absolutely necessary to life on earth water

Casement Replacement Windows Vs Six Room Analysis
For New Jersey and New York Metro homeowners thinking about upgrading their homes with high
performance, custom built replacement windows, choosing a style may be the easiest decision they
make, or the hardest. Some people are happy with the way their home looks, but are tired of the drafty
corners and high heating and air conditioning bills. Simply replacing their existing double or single
hung windows with a modern, better functioning window unit of the same style could be the perfect
solution. Other homeowners want to make a more dramatic change, perhaps replace some operable
window with fixed windows, or go back with a beautiful bay window to replace the picture window.

joined beneath a fixed window, you have a beautiful arrangement that is energy efficient, provides

A Recap: Pros and Cons of Crank Style Replacement Windows
Crank style windows are terrific in tight spaces and where you would normally have to climb a ladder
to raise a window, or where you have to reach across a counter. Both awnings and casements really
bring in a ton of fresh air, but you can only open an awning window on a rainy day, unless you don t
mind cleaning up water off the floor. Casement windows are often better than awnings in upper floors
and neither style is a great fit if you have shrubbery close to the house, or want to place furniture close
to the house on your patio.

Stranded Ship on East Hampton Beach Essay
Stranded Ship on East Hampton Beach
Thomas Moran is known for his oil paintings of the natural world. He captures nature at the moment
in which he sees it; this may, in turn, be serene but also show the dramatic and violent natures of his
momentary surroundings. In the compositions chosen he illustrates, as the title infers, a vessel caught
in the turbulent, tumultuous sea. As he captured this image, he kept in mind the destructive nature of
water also the constructive nature of water. Water has the ability to enable cultures to thrive and to
barely survive. Water was the main source transportation of goods, ideas and communication in
prehistoric times. In his composition, Moran displays the solid and life depending aspect of water as ...

Nevertheless, the flag stands erect and flapping in the wind. On the right side of the piece, we view the
exact magnitude of the storm through the white wash of the violent waves. Additionally, the sky to the
right of the ship s crow s nest is lighter and hints of a sun trying to break through the lurking darkness.
Despite the presence of other visual elements, what clearly connects is that the ocean, embellished and
predominantly highlighted in the work, was Moran s principal interest. However, the fact that
something so fleeting as surging waves dominates the composition even to the visual expense and
weight of an obviously colossal ship.
The visual expressive elements in Moran s composition are not equal in weight. Occupying nearly
seventy five percent of the page, and defining with its form the corresponding negative space of the
lighter sky, the waves of abundant frigid, murky water and cold, stylized white and aquamarine green
frothy accents at its edges, surges high into the sky in the distant background to fill almost all of the
horizontal extent of the paper. Through atmospheric distance techniques, Moran is able to effectively
illustrate the caliber of the waves on the ship s hull by setting the central mast at an eighty seven
degree angle in relation to the horizon line. In addition, he does not make the central mast clearly
visible, but rather distorts the image of the central pole

The Acts of Supremacy
The first Act of Supremacy was introduced by Henry VIII in 1534 during his rule of England. Later,
when Elizabeth I came to the throne, the second Act of Supremacy was introduced to bring back the
reforms that Mary had abolished. Both of these acts have many similarities but also some fundamental
differences that helped indicate the type of ruler each monarch would be. Before discussing the
differences it is important to first understand how the Act of Supremacy came about. Little is known
about Henry s childhood because as the second born he was never intended to become King. When his
elder brother Arthur died months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon Henry became the heir to
the throne of England. Catherine stayed in the English court after the death of her husband and was
betrothed to Henry . It was many years before the two finally married. Catherine did give birth to a
male heir but unfortunately the child did not survive . There were many more attempts for a male heir
but in the end the only surviving child of Henry and Catherine was Mary Tudor who would later
ascend to the throne in July 1553 . Because Catherine was unable to produce a surviving male heir
Henry sought to get an annulment of their marriage. The pope would not grant this and so Henry
created the Act of Supremacy declaring himself the supreme head of the Church of England in 1534.
By naming himself as the supreme head of the Church, Henry no longer needed to answer to the Pope
or the Roman

My Experience Of My Life In The Refugee Camp
When I was eleven years old, I was living in one of the small Bhutanese Refugee Camp called
Goldhap located in Jhapa, Nepal. Life in the refugee camp was simple for me since I was only 11
years old. But for most adults including my parents, it was very challenging. Since they didn t have
their own land; they couldn t eat whatever they wanted to like in Bhutan where they had large arable
land for plantation. People in camp were not allowed to work outside of camp. But to provide for their
family they worked laborious jobs such as stone breaking, road cleaning, and ploughing (with an Ox).
My parents did all they could to satisfy our needs and some wants. Ever since I was little doctors

to become a doctor in Camp because of financial situation. The turning point of my life was when I

Thankfully, I was born in supportive and loving family. Both of my parents worked very hard to
provide for the family. My dad was a skilled carpenter thereby, he would go to different parts of Nepal

The Relationship Between Taphonomy On Shell Stable Isotope...
RESULTS DISCUSSION
Taphonomy s relationship to δ¹³C and δ18O Using the taphonomic number described above and
displayed in Table 2; I examined the relationship between diagenesis of the recently dead to the
variation seen in both of the stable isotope records acquired here (Figure 3). The average value of each
taphonomic number is not as important as the fact that one standard deviation (represented by error
bars) increases from about 0.2 ‰ to 0.8‰ in δ13C values, and 0.3‰ to 0.9‰ in δ18O values as the
taphonomic number increases. If this relationship is universal, it represents a significant impact on the
records acquired by damaged, fossil or recent shells. As stated in the introduction some studies have

For example, the taphonomic measure of aragonite matrix delamination is more prevalent on the umbo
and commissure of the shell and rarely appears in the central shell region. Results show that the
commissure displays the highest levels of variation, with one standard deviation reaching 1.5 ‰ for
δ13C and 3.5 ‰ in δ18O values (Figure 4). These high levels at the commissure are similarly found at
the umbo with standard deviations of 1.5‰ δ13C and 1.1 ‰ in δ18O. Both records show a sweet spot
of low variation between 20 60% shell length (Figure 4). This increased variation in an isotopic record
could be attributed to 3 factors; 1) regional climate variability, 2) Taphonomic damage of commissure
and umbo preferentially, 3) varying growth rate on shell leading to varying degrees of time averaging,
as can sloppy drilling technique.
(1) Regional climate variability have caused these organisms to experience large seasonal fluctuations
in temperature and salinity both of witch affect the δ18O values of the Aragonite. To determine a
measure of time the percent shell length measure described above was multiplied by the average life
span of the organism to get a measure of years before collection.

Diffusion Lab
Introduction:
In nature, molecules are always in motion. When molecules move from high concentration to a low
concentration across the membrane, this is called diffusion. In other words, when particles go down
the concentration gradient, also called passive transport. A special type of diffusion is also called
osmosis, which is the diffusion of water, meaning water particles (H2O) move from high
concentration of water particles to a low concentration through a selectively permeable membrane.
Higher water concentration can also be phrased as higher water potential.
Diffusion is a spontaneous reaction that occurs to maintain equilibrium. Equilibrium is an equal
concentration of particles across the membrane. Dynamic Equilibrium is the equal exchange of
particles across the membrane. The purpose of this lab is to observe the physical effects of osmosis
and diffusion and to determine if it actually takes place. We hypothesized that, because molecules
diffuse down a concentration gradient, the mass of the dialysis tubes will increase, and we believe that
as the molarity increases, the percent of change in mass will also increase. Our final hypothesis was
that diffusion and osmosis will occur until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis of To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning
This assignment will examine two poems that were written before 1914. The two poems I will be
focussing on are To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning. In
the essay I will be looking at how both poems emphasise love but yet have very different approaches
as in the coy mistress the persona is trapping his mistress into falling in love with him and uses tactics
to try and have a sexual relationship with her. However in the sonnet the persona has a stronger love
for her lover as the poem is more spiritual and her idea of love is on a higher level she does not refer

His attitude becomes more intimate as he tells her how he could spend ages on each part of her body.
An hundred years should go to praise Thines eyes, and on thy forehead gaze . This evidently would
have made his mistress have a different view of him as he is complimenting her. The poet uses
numbers in this section as a distraction as he is taking her away from the popular theme of time
destroying beauty which is a very different slant to the Carpe Diem theme. These type of poems often
begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make
much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using
Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so
will be more willing to listen to what he has to say.
Marvell gives a relaxed attitude to this section of the poem by using enjambment. We would sit down,
and think which way

Grade Point Average Research
Sleep Affects Your Grade Point Average, More Than You Think
Introduction
Research has shown that one s grade point average is directly correlated to one s sleep (Chiang, 2014;
Hershner Chervin, 2014). Along with that, sleep affects one s grade point average through a
psychological standpoint, as in the brain s functionality (Kelly, 2001; Milan 2005). Where on the other
hand, others say that sleep length have nothing to do with grade point average at all, it s due a lack of
commitment to work and study hard, in an efficient way. (Hershner Chervin, 2014; Milan 2005). Yet,
many students lack sleep and hurt their gpa s doing so, with no adjustments being made to change.

There three types of sleepers according to Kelly (2001). The three types being short sleeper, average
sleepers, and long sleepers. The three types described are the lengths compared to the average time a
student should sleep. The idea behind Potts Datema (2005) is that students who sleep for sometime
should be fine. The length can vary, but if a student gets some time to sleep is fine, because they at
least get some sleep, no matter the length they sleep. Kelly (2001) also found the out of the three type
of sleepers that the short sleeper, the ones who sleep less than the average time they should, that they
have the lowest grade point average compared to the other two types. Also, the average sleepers, who
sleep the average time and the long sleepers, who sleep longer than the average time they should, both
have significantly higher grade point averages. But, between the average and long sleepers, the long
sleepers have a slightly high grade point average. Therefore, the length of sleep is necessary to a
higher extend, than just being able to get some time to sleep. Also, the reaction and response time of
the student depends on the length of which they sleep (Chiang 2014; Kelly, 2001). They both also
found that the reaction and response time of a short sleepers are more delayed than an average and
long sleepers are. Also, a long sleeper has the best reaction and response time, due to they got to rest
and regain their energy back, and not be drowsy like short sleepers would be and sometimes an
average student would. They have more time to rest their whole body and mind, to be refreshed when

List Price And Agent Feedback On The Weekly Calls
As RMS has indicated many times, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of
assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the
condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list
price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended
days on market and increased carrying costs incurred by the trust. This is an ongoing issue observed
with Altisource and discussed on the weekly calls.
List price continues to be the biggest concern and is a frequent topic during our weekly target assets
and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing activity, property condition, agent
feedback and offers (or lack thereof).
RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative to our
opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days and no offers, RMS and
Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why offers have not been received.
RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks.
Another recent observation is a continued increase in the number of assets in pending contracts that
fall out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. RMS continued to observe this in
January 2016. We believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the

Despite efforts to avoid the threats to validity of evaluation apprehension and experimenter
expectancies (Parker, 1990), they cannot be ruled out. The questionnaire is clearly asking the students
opinion of Duolingo. Despite the assurance of anonymity, in an effort to appear to be a good student, a
responder might have exaggerated their love of learning vocabulary, and the use of Duolingo in
particular. To avoid the influence of experimenter expectancies, it is recommended that the individuals
administering the treatment be unaware of the purposes of the study (Parker, 1990). It would seem
wise to extend this to individuals interacting with participants during questionnaires and interviews,

Jim Thorpe Research Paper
Thorpe gained national attention for the first time during Carlisle s incredible upset over the nation s
top ranked football program, Harvard. During this game, and his overall collegiate career, Jim played
running back, defensive back, placekicker, and punter. In the famous game versus Harvard, over
25,000 people attended the game in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which contains Harvard s home field.
During the game, Thorpe scored 4 field goals, and his teammate, Alex Arcasa, scored Carlisle s only
touchdown in the game. Carlisle stunned Harvard by the final score of 18 15. Jim s success at Carlisle
in football continued into the 1912 season. During the 1912 season, Carlisle handled other top ranked

Olympic trials for both the pentathlon and the decathlon. The pentathlon for the 1912 Olympic games
consisted of the long jump, javelin throw, 200 meter dash, discus throw and a 1500 meter race. The
decathlon, on the other hand, consisted of the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400
meter dash, discus throw, 110 meter hurdles, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500 meter run. He easily
won the trials for these two events, which qualified him for the 1912 Olympic games. Along with the
decathlon and pentathlon, Jim Thorpe also competed in the long jump and high jump during the
games. To begin his Olympic career, he won four out of the five events for the pentathlon, only to
place third in the javelin event, in which he had never competed before the U.S. Olympic trials. Jim
Thorpe would go on to win gold in the pentathlon event. Later that day, Jim competed in the high
jump and long jump events. In these events, he placed fourth in high jump, and then took seventh in
the long jump. The final event Jim would participate in during the 1912 Olympics was the decathlon.
Thorpe demolished the completion. He placed in the top four in all ten events. He set an Olympic
record of 8,413 that would stand for nearly two decades. As legend has it, as the medals were
presented to the athletes, the King of Sweden, King Gustav V approached Thorpe and stated, You, sir,
are the greatest athlete in the world. Thorpe replied in an elegant matter of just saying Thanks, King ,

  • 2. Rethinking The Active Learning Movement Essay Rethinking the Active Learning Movement It was Never All or Nothing Over the past 25 years the movement to adopt learner centered pedagogy has gained main stream acceptance, to the point that all higher education faculty are expected to include such methods in every class. Educational critiques, opinion editorials, research and data have driven policy and practice towards the universal application of active learning techniques in place of traditional lecturing. In the Report to the President (2012) the executive summary committed to evidence based teaching strategies, namely active learning strategies, to increase student learning. Although this report drives the curriculum for STEM disciplines, this same push is occurring across disciplines. The commitment to adopt active learning has become a mantra reverberating across disciplines lecture less / include more activities in your classroom. The realization that learning increases with the incorporation of student engagement activities (CITe the CHART RESEARCHER) was just that: evidence that student involvement in the learning process increases learning. It was not a prescription to abandon the lecture, entirely. Yet somehow over the years professionals have taken to the practice of thinking dichotomously about teaching falling into one of two categories: 1) passive learning and 2) active learning. Furthermore in such instances we are lead to think that all passive learning is bad teaching and to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald, the observations of the character named Nick Carraway reflects upon the life of Jay Gatsby and his surroundings. The 20th century is masked by the glamour and parties. It displays a wondrous era full of wealth. Even though money is the key to this fantasy it is just that... a fantasy. The happiness and reality of life fails to complete on behalf of these rich people. Gatsby seems to have all the riches and fame, although these things cannot fulfil the happiness he desires of Daisy Buchanan. The roaring twenties was a era that defines the word magnetism. It attracts people to this day because of the beauty and golden environment. Jay Gatsby symbolizes the thriving society of this era. He could acquire anything he desires at any moment needed. Although, once time passes the desires become a normality. The excitement of obtaining a new object or going to explore seize. Gatsby loses the happiness once felt and begins to feel the loneliness within his heart. Bliss and happiness reflects upon those receiving love of some sort. • 4. Generating High Revenue in an Organization 1. Executive Summary An organizations main objective would be to generate high revenue and maximize profits. To generate this high revenue, it would be the employees who would be working hard strategically and showing high performances to drive the organization towards achieving that goal. High performance could be achieved only by well motivated people who are prepared to exercise an extra effort. Even in fairly basic roles, there is some level of motivation involved. In a research by Hunter et al (1990), it was found that the difference in value added discretionary performance between superior and standard performers was 19 percent. For highly complex jobs it was 48 per cent. (Armstrong and Armstrong, 2009) To motivate people it is necessary to understand the types of motivation and how it works with each skill level of people. The videos and statements by Daniel Pink, Professor Jim Collins and Kathy Schofield taken in this context give an in depth insight into the importance motivation and self motivating environment. 2. Analysis of the videos and the statements Drive Daniel Pink Daniel Pink is the author of five popular books which focus on the changing workplace. In Dan Pink s video about the drive he critically analyses the traditional thinking where it is believed that more reward gives better performance, whereas when you punish something you get lesser of that. While I was reading the ending of the book, The author tried to give us lots of messages from the book. For example, never thinks negative, be brave, first think and then do the action, and never give up.On page 70 the author stated that when Max got hit by the soldier s gun in front of his little sister Zena. Max then leaned on the Nazi soldier, so this made the soldier trigger the gun and south himself on the leg because the gun flips around, so then they ran away in the deep wood finding their Anti and in the way finding their dad. • 6. Football Head Injury Research In today s NFL, injuries, particularly head injuries, have become a common occurrence regardless of the amount of preventative training that the athletes invest in. These reoccurring head injuries have led to the deaths of former players and yet, instead of their families accepting that it was the player s decision to continue playing, they somehow choose to blame the NFL as if the NFL committee were the ones creating the injuries to happen or forcing them to play through it. The NFL isn t to blame for concussions sustained while playing the game because the coaches, medical staff, and players allow continuous play, creation of financial aid programs, new injury policies, and new equipment technology. First of all, the NFL isn t to blame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The NFL understands the severity of injuries will continue to increase due to players today becoming bigger, faster, and stronger than they use to be. This is where creating more efficient equipment comes in to effect. With head injuries being the spotlight in the NFL recent years, endless research has been conducted to create helmets that reduce impact for the players. In 2012, manufacturers conducted a test which consisted of 23 different impacts on 17 types of modern football helmets and comparing those results to helmets of the 1990s that are still cleared to be used in the NFL. The four helmets had significantly improved performance compared to the 1990s baseline helmets. The Schutt DNA PRO (#5) and the Riddell Revolution (#4), IQ (#9), and Revolution Speed (#7) has statistically lower biomechanical responses and better for attenuation than the 1990s baseline helmets (Viano, 2012). Along with the field tests of these new improved helmets, was research on if on field performance is different in players who return within seven days after a concussion compared with players who missed at least one game. This was conducted on players who actively played in the NFL from 2008 to 2012 who wore these improved helmets as opposed to the helmets created in the 90s. After these tests were complete, there was no difference in player performance and concussion rates have actually gone down from 1996 to 2012 when this study was conducted. Advancements in helmet technology has become quite successful as players safety, concussions, and the actions the NFL has taken to improve on both, have become a huge spotlight in the sports ... Biologically Enhancing Soldiers Connor Gabriel Biologically Enhancing Soldiers Our ability to upgrade the bodies of soldiers through drugs, implants, and exoskeletons may be upending the ethical norms of war as we ve understood them.I first saw in the movie, Captain America. The only difference now is that this possibility is slowly becoming a possible reality. The possibilities are endless by doing this to soldiers, whom are willing of going thru the process. From having soldiers that don t need sleep or only need to eat 1 MRE ( Meal Ready to Eat) a week. Almost any idea we could think of in biologically improving a soldier, could actually happen, and will only benefit the soldier and the military as a whole. The use of human enhancement technologies by the military is not new. Broadly construed, vaccinations could count as an enhancement of the human immune system, and this would place the first instance of military human enhancement (as opposed to mere tool use) at our very first war, the American Revolutionary War in 1775 1783. George Washington, as commander in chief of the Continental Army, ordered the vaccinations of American troops against smallpox, as the British Army was suspected of using the virus as a form of biological warfare. Having said that, how can one argue that this isn t a safe or legal action due to the fact that the first President. George Washington, gave the orders to due so? Due to these enhancements being biologically, and one of the ideas is enhancing soldiers to not feel pain or possibly even fear. Everyone is aware that war is a terrifying place. Imagine an army of soldiers that do not feel pain or even fear itself. Being able to take bullets without even flinching. Also, having the possibility of giving someone the ability to not feel fear would advance our military to an indescribable level. By not feeling fear, soldiers decision making would speed up, and be more reasonably do to not being scared. What if a soldier gets captured and is tortured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Coherentism and Foundationalism Foundationalism vs. Coherentism Throughout history, philosophers have been trying to come up with a clear way to provide the justification of our beliefs and knowledge. Noah Lemos offers readers explanations of both foundationalism and coherentism for theories of justification. These two different theories offer very different ways to explain the basis of our beliefs. For a foundationalist, they believe that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic belief. This belief would be largely independent of other beliefs and not derived from other beliefs. A coherentist feels that a belief can be reasonably justified if it is coheres with our other beliefs. The foundationalist theory of justification boils everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A coherentist however, would justify that the pot is hot through other beliefs that cohere with this belief. Some of these coherent beliefs would be: the remaining coffee in the pot is hot, the coffee is freshly brewed which would mean it is hot, I can see steam coming from the coffee in my mug, the coffee I ve had every other day this week from the same pot have been hot and I can feel the warmth from the mug in my hand. All of these beliefs are not basic as a foundationalist would like, but they all cohere and provide reasonable justification for me to believe that the coffee in my mug is hot. It is my opinion that coherentists have a better argument for beliefs, and more specifically, this example. While I do think that there are many basic beliefs that are justified simply because they just are, I am not convinced that all the beliefs we have in this world can be broken down quite in this way. I do however, feel that many of our beliefs are based in a web of other believes that all support each other. I know that my coffee is hot for many reasons, one being that I can feel it. I don t think that I necessarily need to break it down into experiences when I have many other clues that could more easily justify my belief. If this were not the case, then it could be argued that conceptual change occurs every time someone changes his or her mind, or learns something new about a certain issue act (Ruhf, 2003, P.1). This shows that a one person can have a change over time. Concept change doesn t just happen over a day, it happens over a long period of time. Intubated Patients Develop Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Critically ill patients who are intubated on mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours of are at an increased risk of 6 to 21 times of developing ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). Patients intubated for lesser than 24 hours are at 3 times the risk of acquiring VAP.15 VAP is the parenchymal lung infection and alveolitis, the accumulation of inflammatory exudates and infiltration of airway mucosa can lead to unfavourable respiratory mechanics occurring at least 48 hours after initiation of mechanical ventilation. VAP is one reason for high costs and prolonged length of hospital stay in the intensive care units (ICU).9 The morbidity and mortality of VAP is increasingly high, mortality rates ranges from 20% to 41%. The risk of development of VAP increases days of ventilation by 4 days, critical care by 4 days and lengths of hospital stay by 9 days, respectively and these factors adds to additional costs per VAP case.16 VAP prolongs the need for mechanical ventilation that may keep patients with a poor prognosis from their underlying commodities in the ICU. Both these factors would increase the probability of death rates in the ICU among patients who have developed VAP. 17 A prospective, matched cohort study was conducted to evaluate the attributable morbidity and mortality of VAP in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. One hundred and seventy seven patients developed VAP and stayed in the ICU for 4.3 days longer and had a trend toward an increase in risk of death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the literature that we have read this school year, perspective is a cause of the all the conflicts. Perspective is the way that a person views a situation or another person, which leads to a positive or negative relationship. When opinions in novels conflict, the views are significantly altered. Jack wanted to hunt for pigs while Ralph s main goal was to figure out the way off of the island. The conflict between goals was the drive or motive for the vicious and murderous attacks between the two groups. Another way that perspective was able to create opinions was when Carton confessed his unconditional love for Lucie to Lucie. • 17. The Controversy Over Free Will And Determinism Introduction It has been debated over centuries whether us humans have control over our destiny, and if we are really able to decide on our own. The controversy between free will and determinism has been argued about for years. If we look into a dictionary, free will is define as the power given to human beings to be able to make free choices that is unconstrained by external circumstances or a force such as fate or divine intervention. Determinism is defined as a philosophical doctrine that every event, act, and decision is the inescapable consequence of antecedents that are independent of the human will. Determinism states that humans have no free will to choose what they wish. Due to this fact, contemporary philosophers cannot agree whether free will does exist, let alone it be a divine influence. Three major Beliefs There are three major arguments in the thought of free and they are libertarianism, compatibilism, and fatalism. There are both a religious and secular position for this argument. The religious aspect of free will is that it is an objective by God, while the secular position is subjective to causal determinism and the effect of the physical and concrete things on the process of decision making. In an article by Alvin Plantinga he tackled a few types of compatibilism, and he believes that he has found an objective to serve as a middle ground in the free will debate. • 18. The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian, these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group. In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. • 21. Differences Between Arbitration And Mediation Differences between Arbitration and Mediation: Arbitration occurs when a neutral third party hears a dispute and imposes (Miller Cross, 2013) their decision on both parties. Mediation transpires when an unbiased third party works with both sides to facilitate a resolution (Miller Cross, 2013). Arbitration and mediation both work to find a solution to the conflict between two parties; but arbitration differs from mediation through the role of the neutral third party, the formality of the process, the discovery period of a case, and the type of decision. In both arbitration and mediation there is an impartial third party. In arbitration, there tends to be more than one arbitrator. In arbitration, there is a panel of multiple arbitrators ( Mediation , 2015), where one arbitrator is chosen by each side. Afterwards, the two arbitrators then select a third ( Mediation , 2015) to complete the panel. The panel s role in arbitration involves coming to decision after hearing parties testify under oath ( Comparison , 2015) and examining the evidence presented. Unlike arbitration, mediators help both parties with the discussion and eventual resolution ( Mediation , 2015) of their conflict and case. In a mediation, both parties select a mediator to help create more understanding, which tends to be a less formal process than that of an arbitration. The formality of an arbitration and a mediation varies due to their nature. An arbitration is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Later, when Elizabeth I came to the throne, the second Act of Supremacy was introduced to bring back the reforms that Mary had abolished. Both of these acts have many similarities but also some fundamental differences that helped indicate the type of ruler each monarch would be. Before discussing the differences it is important to first understand how the Act of Supremacy came about. Little is known about Henry s childhood because as the second born he was never intended to become King. When his elder brother Arthur died months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon Henry became the heir to the throne of England. Catherine stayed in the English court after the death of her husband and was betrothed to Henry . It was many years before the two finally married. Catherine did give birth to a male heir but unfortunately the child did not survive . There were many more attempts for a male heir but in the end the only surviving child of Henry and Catherine was Mary Tudor who would later ascend to the throne in July 1553 . Because Catherine was unable to produce a surviving male heir Henry sought to get an annulment of their marriage. Since they didn t have their own land; they couldn t eat whatever they wanted to like in Bhutan where they had large arable land for plantation. People in camp were not allowed to work outside of camp. But to provide for their family they worked laborious jobs such as stone breaking, road cleaning, and ploughing (with an Ox). My parents did all they could to satisfy our needs and some wants. Ever since I was little doctors fascinated me so when I grew up I wanted to become one. However, I knew it was next to impossible to become a doctor in Camp because of financial situation. The turning point of my life was when I came to America. Thankfully, I was born in supportive and loving family. Both of my parents worked very hard to provide for the family. My dad was a skilled carpenter thereby, he would go to different parts of Nepal and India to work. On the other hand, my mom stayed home and worked. She would make Nanglo; a flat, round tray made of bamboo and sell those to earn some money. Besides that, she did various other works such as sewing, sharecropping etc. Even though she was busy most of the time she never failed to encourage me to study. She was the first one to teach me the importance of education even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Relationship Between Taphonomy On Shell Stable Isotope... RESULTS DISCUSSION Taphonomy s relationship to δ¹³C and δ18O Using the taphonomic number described above and displayed in Table 2; I examined the relationship between diagenesis of the recently dead to the variation seen in both of the stable isotope records acquired here (Figure 3). The average value of each taphonomic number is not as important as the fact that one standard deviation (represented by error bars) increases from about 0.2 ‰ to 0.8‰ in δ13C values, and 0.3‰ to 0.9‰ in δ18O values as the taphonomic number increases. If this relationship is universal, it represents a significant impact on the records acquired by damaged, fossil or recent shells. As stated in the introduction some studies have examined the impact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the taphonomic measure of aragonite matrix delamination is more prevalent on the umbo and commissure of the shell and rarely appears in the central shell region. Results show that the commissure displays the highest levels of variation, with one standard deviation reaching 1.5 ‰ for δ13C and 3.5 ‰ in δ18O values (Figure 4). These high levels at the commissure are similarly found at the umbo with standard deviations of 1.5‰ δ13C and 1.1 ‰ in δ18O. Both records show a sweet spot of low variation between 20 60% shell length (Figure 4). This increased variation in an isotopic record could be attributed to 3 factors; 1) regional climate variability, 2) Taphonomic damage of commissure and umbo preferentially, 3) varying growth rate on shell leading to varying degrees of time averaging, as can sloppy drilling technique. (1) Regional climate variability have caused these organisms to experience large seasonal fluctuations in temperature and salinity both of witch affect the δ18O values of the Aragonite. To determine a measure of time the percent shell length measure described above was multiplied by the average life span of the organism to get a measure of years before collection. • 38. Diffusion Lab Introduction: In nature, molecules are always in motion. When molecules move from high concentration to a low concentration across the membrane, this is called diffusion. In other words, when particles go down the concentration gradient, also called passive transport. A special type of diffusion is also called osmosis, which is the diffusion of water, meaning water particles (H2O) move from high concentration of water particles to a low concentration through a selectively permeable membrane. Higher water concentration can also be phrased as higher water potential. Diffusion is a spontaneous reaction that occurs to maintain equilibrium. Equilibrium is an equal concentration of particles across the membrane. Dynamic Equilibrium is the equal exchange of particles across the membrane. The purpose of this lab is to observe the physical effects of osmosis and diffusion and to determine if it actually takes place. We hypothesized that, because molecules diffuse down a concentration gradient, the mass of the dialysis tubes will increase, and we believe that as the molarity increases, the percent of change in mass will also increase. Our final hypothesis was that diffusion and osmosis will occur until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. Analysis of To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and... Analysis of To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning This assignment will examine two poems that were written before 1914. The two poems I will be focussing on are To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning. In the essay I will be looking at how both poems emphasise love but yet have very different approaches as in the coy mistress the persona is trapping his mistress into falling in love with him and uses tactics to try and have a sexual relationship with her. However in the sonnet the persona has a stronger love for her lover as the poem is more spiritual and her idea of love is on a higher level she does not refer to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His attitude becomes more intimate as he tells her how he could spend ages on each part of her body. An hundred years should go to praise Thines eyes, and on thy forehead gaze . This evidently would have made his mistress have a different view of him as he is complimenting her. The poet uses numbers in this section as a distraction as he is taking her away from the popular theme of time destroying beauty which is a very different slant to the Carpe Diem theme. These type of poems often begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so will be more willing to listen to what he has to say. Marvell gives a relaxed attitude to this section of the poem by using enjambment. We would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long Loves day . • 40. Grade Point Average Research Sleep Affects Your Grade Point Average, More Than You Think Introduction Research has shown that one s grade point average is directly correlated to one s sleep (Chiang, 2014; Hershner Chervin, 2014). Along with that, sleep affects one s grade point average through a psychological standpoint, as in the brain s functionality (Kelly, 2001; Milan 2005). Where on the other hand, others say that sleep length have nothing to do with grade point average at all, it s due a lack of commitment to work and study hard, in an efficient way. The three types being short sleeper, average sleepers, and long sleepers. The three types described are the lengths compared to the average time a student should sleep. The idea behind Potts Datema (2005) is that students who sleep for sometime should be fine. The length can vary, but if a student gets some time to sleep is fine, because they at least get some sleep, no matter the length they sleep. Kelly (2001) also found the out of the three type of sleepers that the short sleeper, the ones who sleep less than the average time they should, that they have the lowest grade point average compared to the other two types. Also, the average sleepers, who sleep the average time and the long sleepers, who sleep longer than the average time they should, both have significantly higher grade point averages. But, between the average and long sleepers, the long sleepers have a slightly high grade point average. Therefore, the length of sleep is necessary to a higher extend, than just being able to get some time to sleep. Also, the reaction and response time of the student depends on the length of which they sleep (Chiang 2014; Kelly, 2001). They both also found that the reaction and response time of a short sleepers are more delayed than an average and long sleepers are. Also, a long sleeper has the best reaction and response time, due to they got to rest and regain their energy back, and not be drowsy like short sleepers would be and sometimes an average student would. • 41. List Price And Agent Feedback On The Weekly Calls As RMS has indicated many times, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended days on market and increased carrying costs incurred by the trust. This is an ongoing issue observed with Altisource and discussed on the weekly calls. List price continues to be the biggest concern and is a frequent topic during our weekly target assets and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing activity, property condition, agent feedback and offers (or lack thereof). RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative to our opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days and no offers, RMS and Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why offers have not been received. RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks. Another recent observation is a continued increase in the number of assets in pending contracts that fall out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. RMS continued to observe this in January 2016. We believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the HUBZU website), where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To begin his Olympic career, he won four out of the five events for the pentathlon, only to place third in the javelin event, in which he had never competed before the U.S. Olympic trials.
