 Answers include the names of bands, (namely Mayday Parade,
Paramore, ADTR, P!ATD, and My Chemical Romance), and one answer
was „rubber‟.

Social Life
 „Friends‟, „Gathering‟ and „Musicness‟ were among answers here.

School Life
 „Boring‟, „repetitive‟, „stressful‟ and „stick it to the man‟ were the staple
answers here, with laughs erupting for the final answer.

Family Life
 „misunderstanding‟, „hierarchy‟, „home‟ and a no worded answer
accommodated by random hand movements and gibberish noise.

7. Music Analysis
The quickest response was the „happiness‟
answer, which struck a chord in terms of
real reliance on music in order for a
teenager in the target audience to be
happy.
 Bands and Artists of this genre are often
credited for writing the most realistic or
even depressingly relatable music, often
resulting in many teens relying on it in
order to gain indirect life advice or
guidance.


8. Band Analysis
The expected answers were to be a
range of band names, which were given
promptly.
 The inclusion of „rubber‟ after a moment
of silence shows perfectly the timed
humour of the target audience. Referring
to a rubber band, the target audience
members all got the joke immediately,
sharing a connection that isn‟t very
common in other genres.


9. Social Life Analysis
Being a member of my own target audience, I fully
expected the answers to this to be within the range of
„non-existent‟ or similar; members of this audience are
stereotyped as to being socially self-excluded and withheld.
 However the inclusion of „friends‟ and „gathering‟ were
expanded to find that the sole cause or first cause of a
relationship with another was through music taste. Two of
the focus group met through their music taste and a
mutual friend, giving an experienced view.
 Again, the quick-witted humour shines through with the
made up but still legible word; „Musicness‟. It clearly
shows a strong bond between music and social life, but
encourages a free spoken nature when no words can be
found.


10. School Life Analysis



To many teenagers, school life is seen as a social
nightmare, with groups of teenagers agreeing
unanimously to the cons of school.
„Boring‟, „Repetitive‟ and „Stressful‟ were around
about the expected result, displaying the group hate
of school and school life in general.
Once again, the humour breaks out with the
immediate response of „stick it to the man‟, a phrase
popularised with the punk rock era, encouraging fans
to break out of the totalitarian like government ruled
state and live a free life. The core principle is
rebellion, a feature pinpointed in all areas of teenage
lives in the modern era, in many genres.

11. Family Life Analysis
I didn‟t quite know what to expect here, as family life
can differ with person to person. This can also be
influenced by music taste, for example a person
might have a stronger relationship with their father if
they enjoy the same type of music.
 However the answers given shone as a typical
teenage response, with „misunderstanding‟ a
unanimous agreement with all four members of the
group. It seems the rebellious nature enjoys the
apparent mistreatment of teenagers, with an
extended answer being that;
“...our parents treat us like children but expect us to act
like adults, it just doesn't work...”

