Audience Profile
Demographics
Age: The target audience for my chosen magazine genre is
young adults/adolescence between the ages of 14 - 26. This is
because I want my magazine to be a magazine that people will
enjoy reading, and want to buy. I want the magazine to speak to
people who enjoy this genre, rather than stir away from the key
genre itself, which gossip based magazines tent to do.
Audiences around these ages may appreciate it more because
they have things to focus on which are important in their life e.g.
Exams. Stereotypically my target audience have no respect for
authority, whether that be parents, teachers or law enforcers. My
magazine may help to keep this within the pages, rather than
them expressing it outside. By keeping it in the pages it may help
to suppress their feelings outside.
Psycographics
Values/Beliefs: Stereotypically an Indie-Rock
fan will have little if not no religious beliefs;
are laid back with a lack of political opinion.
The stereotype will have an 'anything goes
attitude' where as Electronic fans can be a
range of people with a range of morals. The
like to be individual, different; they believe
that people should be themselves and
different from one another.
Hobbies: Stereotypically, people of the older
generation believe that the age group of my target
audience, spend their time causing havoc; doing
drugs and drinking excessively. However, this is a
minority of youths of today, and the older
generations go by what they see in the media, or
what they see at a shop corner past midnight. My
genre is Indie-Rock, which is stereotypically seen by
14-26 year olds, as drug taking alcohol drinking
'hippies', however, like my first example this is the
minority, and does not occur constantly. Many of my
audience will play instruments (e.g. Guitar, Piano,
Drums), because they believe they are the key of the
music, and that they too could be a musician.
Attitude: They are seen to be laid back
people, in their own world and have a
careless attitude. These are seen as
negative stereotypes, however could be
seen as positive because they are rarely
stressed, and are expressive and
imaginative.
