The video analysis examines the music video for the song "Blind Faith" by Chase and Status. It finds that the genre is dance music featuring drugs, alcohol and partying. The target audience is likely 16-24 year old unemployed white males who enjoy illegal parties. The narrative follows a group of friends on a night out partying and implies that taking drugs leads to fun. Stereotypes of white males as not very classy are present.

This is my evaluation of my A2 Media Products. In my evaluation I have compared my products to existing products and explained conventions in my chosen genre.
2. Video analysis
For my first video analysis, I chose to use Chase
and status’ Blind Faith.
3. Genre
The genre in Blind faith is dance.
Meets expectations of genre by including drugs
and alcohol, and also going to some sort of
party/rave will indicate fun.
There is swearing, drugs, violence and alcohol in
this video, therefore, limiting the audience to a
younger, more rebellious demographic.
4. Audience
I believe the audience for this would be 16-24.
Furthermore I would believe the demographic to
be unemployed, as there is a lot more
stereotypical working class involved in the
diegesis.
It is dominated by white males, hardly involving
females and only showing other ethnicity’s when
singing (white people being represented as the
illegal party animals).
The audience can associate with the
verisimilitude feel in this home video, through the
nostalgia of sitting in your friends playing games
consoles.
5. Narrative
The narrative is linear in Blind Faith. This is
because there is only one storyline throughout; a
group of friends going on a night out, showing
their adventure.
Enigma’s are created, almost giving the
impression that taking drugs are good. It assures
the viewer that you have a good time if you take
drugs.
The theme of this music video is friendship and
partying. This is proven by anywhere they go, the
friendship group is there. Also, no girlfriends as
such are shown, therefore showing that they only
need friends to have a good time rather than
relationships.
6. Representation
Star image isn’t constructed in this video, as the
artists aren’t seen as main characters, and are
only shown in the background of the shots. This is
because they don’t want to be shown in the public
eye, typical of dance artists.
There are a lot of stereotypes used within the
video too. That white males aren’t very classy
being one of them.
7. Characteristics
In Blind Faith there was a lot of strobe lighting
involved to show the emphasis of parties in dance
videos. Also, it seems like it was set in the early
1990’s, the mise-en-scene showed this through
the costumes worn by the characters.
Visuals/lyrics
The chorus has the lyric ‘self destruct’ in it and
this is shown visually by the characters taking
drugs. It also has ‘playing with fire in it’ and this
shows close ups of the characters high on drugs.
It is illustrative.
8. Visuals/music
The visuals act much slower and it seems as if
there is not much going on when the music is
slow. When the music speeds up, so does the
visuals. This is amplifying.
Artist
The artist is not recognised much in the video
(conventional of a dance video). The motif could
be the storyline itself.
9. Intertexuality
At the beginning, it shows games consoles from
1990’s and also shows computers from a police
station.
Voyeurism
There seems to be no voyeuristic message within
this video.
