Evaluation Question 7 - Looking back
at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the main
                task?
Research
For the research and planning in my preliminary task it was very
limited and I only did magazine research. However whilst
producing my final product I carried out research on music
magazines, audience, font, articles and photography to ensure my
magazine constructed representations and fitted my chosen genre
of music.

I used the internet to collect secondary data about my audience โ€“
what their interests are and how other media producers produce
music magazines.

My research skills have developed which have benefited my work
because researching is a crucial part into creating a product which
easily falls into the โ€˜rock genre of musicโ€™ and conforms to a certain
stereotype and social group. I produced work more in line with
professional practices as I have a more detailed understanding of
the conventions of real media products.
Planning
My preliminary planning and production schedule was a lot simpler and quicker process;
magazine research, photo shoot then construction of magazine. For my final product I
managed my time better and my work was planned well.

The planning for my final product was done over a number of weeks and included a lot
of dates to make sure I kept to a production schedule and met deadlines. My planning
went as so; similar magazine research, audience research, constructing flat plans,
photography test shots, flat plan feedback, model costume/makeup research, location
reece, photo shoot plans, article research, article drafting, photo shoots, model release
forms, location hazard and risk sheets then finally construction.

The skills I have learnt and developed from my preliminary task to my final task have
allowed me to produce a product that looks professional and fits the rock genre of music
and attracts my target audience.
Construction
From the images of these two front covers you can see that I have developed a lot of new
skills and techniques and a lot more effort has been put into the production of my final
product.

For the preliminary task I did little research into what style fonts would
be used for a college magazine. As you can see the font I used was
plain, block text where as in my final product I did a lot of research and
chose different fonts that fit my rock genre. I also used a house style
colour theme or red, white and black.
Regarding photography my final product uses photography that
constructs representation and portrays a certain message to the
reader. For example my model has a serious/fierce facial expression to
represent her character whereas in the preliminary task I didnโ€™t plan
what facial expression, clothes and makeup my model would be
                    wearing.
Construction
Comparing the mast head of my two products. Developing my Photoshop skills I was able
to create a more professional masthead the rock music genre.

The brightness and overall quality of my photographs have In the final product I have used a range
improved dramatically as my Photoshop skills have developed of Photoshop skills that made my
over the two projects. I also put a lot more thought into the product look more professional and like
mise-en-scene of my photograph as I aimed to represent a a real magazine. For example
certain genre. Which from my research was dark, edgy bold downloaded fonts, image layers and
looks. In the prelim task my mise-en-scene was well thought photo editing. In the prelim task I was
out it was generalized to just a young audience not a certain unaware of how to use these tools so
genre. my product didnโ€™t look as professional.
