FMP Proposal Y2
1. Proposal

Centre Name and Number:
York College, 48357
Student Name and Unique Learner Number:
Millie Smith, 394155
Project proposal title and date:
The Interlude
Main area of activity:
I will mostly be working in film as I am creating a short film, however I will also be working in
graphic design as I will be creating a poster to support my film.
Rationale:
I have made a variety of products which have furthered my skills throughout my 2 years in the
creative media course. In my year one FMP I was able to develop my colour grading skills and
took what I learnt into my following projects. My documentary project allowed for me to learn how
to effectively use a camera, another skill which has benefit me for my projects to come as the
quality is much better (and allows for more control over my shots). I can carry across these
practiced skills into this project to make for a more effective final product. Colour grading, for
example, can really help connote the tone of the scene, and for my project concept this will really
assist me in conveying what I aim for. In terms of my print work, I have developed my skills with
compositing and other significant techniques which can really influence my project and allow for an
intriguing accompanying film poster. Everything I have learnt up to this point can be implemented
into my project and have an effective impact, though I still hope to experiment and develop new
skills.
Project Concept:
My project concept is a short film and supporting film poster, I hope to explore the theme of liminal
space and take a more surreal approach to my project, evoking an unsettling feeling within my
audience. I can do this by using specific imagery to portray a dream like state, something familiar
to the audience in an unfamiliar and uneasy way. I hope to further delve into themes of loneliness,
dreams, and between spaces metaphorically and physically. There are many ways I can take this
idea in terms of plot, and I hope to explore several ideas before deciding on one. For the research
I would need to conduct, looking at how themes of liminal space have been explored in the past
can help me in better portraying it in my content. I could also look at renowned surrealist film
makers or artists that had frequently experimented with creating weird yet effective imagery to
better inform my production. For example, Tarkovsky could be an interesting filmmaker to research
as his films tend to take more of a surreal approach. Due to theme of liminal space being most
present in photography, I can conduct research in this area to see how I can adapt the techniques
to film.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
Throughout my project I will keep a production log, frequently reflecting on my progress. During
production, I will display screenshots and describe my progress alongside detailing any issues I
run into and how I managed to resolve them. I will look at my work critically, so I know which areas
I need to improve upon. Having daily reflections during my production will allow for me to plan for
the next day and keep track of my progress. Conducting daily reflections is an effective way to
develop my work and can be carried on into further education and my career. After completing my
project, I will partake in a final self-reflection, this is to look at my project as a whole and discuss
the positives as well as the negatives. Knowing what went well and what could go better is

knowledge I can take into my next project to improve it from what I learnt in my previous projects.
