Development diary fmp film week one2
1. Development Diary – FMP Film – Week Two
How do you feel about writing your proposal?
I have mixed feelings about writing my proposal because I often struggle to use the English
grammar because I am Deaf and I use BSL (British Sign Language), the grammatical structure
is very different and some English words do not have signs and some signs do not have
English words, I sometimes find it hard to explain what I mean in words.
However, I enjoy writing my proposal because I like to explain about what my idea is. My
idea is a horror filmand I had some details about my idea of the horror film that I was
excited to write about. Also, I could explain that I had some experience with creating videos
this year. I created two videos this year, one advert and one music video, I helped with the
filming, the planning and the directing. It was important that I filmed and practiced these
skills in the years because I needed to improve my skills and experience before the final
video at the end of this year and my FMP. I was happy with it because I had lots of details
about my idea for my film. I predicted what research I would need do and what to use for
this, and these were some books, websites and DVDs, I put these on the biography and I
had a list of 10 DVDs, websites and books.
How did your mood board and influences inform your proposal?
I watched some horror films on YouTube and I screenshotted some images to put on the
mood boards. I explained about why I like some horror films and showed the images too.
My mood board have influenced my proposal because the mood board explains about I
want to create and what will be similar or different between my filmand other films. For
example, I would like to use similar makeup effects to the film “Black Christmas” because
my idea is that one of the characters will have cuts everywhere, all over the body, the same
as that film. However, in the proposal I have also talked about developing my idea and what
I want and what I need to use for filming.
What could you do to improve this work?
I was struggling to explain the mood board because I was confused what I needed to include
in mood board. I spend two days collecting the wrong information on the mood board
because I thought it should be about which props, costume and effects I wanted to use but
it should have been about inspirations and what inspires me. The third day, I finally got the
right information on the mood board. I could have improved this by spending more time on
it and asking for further clarification. I also focused on films instead of more broad ideas. I
do have some broad ideas but maybe I could have talked about those more.
Also, the proposal has three drafts. The first draft was very rough and written a bit like BSL,
the second draft I added some more information on it and then the final proposal was
translated to correct English grammar. That is how I am improving my work and I want to
my work look great. After I wrote my draft I liked to add some more information and read it
again and add more and make some changes so that my work improves.
Do you think you have enough knowledge to proceed?
I don’t think I have enough knowledge yet, I still need to do lots more research. The mood
board and proposal have helped because I have lots of details about how my film will look
and how to improve my work. I explained about how I have created some videos already
2. this year which means I am getting to know how I can create the film and how to use a
camera, edits and scriptwriting.
I feel I do want to create my film now but I need to little bit more research because I need
to know more about how to use makeup effects, if or not I want to use black and white
screen. I also need to complete some experiment to prepare before the professional filmas
I don’t want to ruin my final film, so I need these experiments so I will know what does and
doesn’t work. For example if I don’t make fake blood before to test that the recipe works
then I could be filming without any and I need blood. I need to make sure everything is
ready.
What further research do you need to do?
I need to do more research about the location where I can filmbecause one part of my idea
I want to use an old building for the characters who will have a party at the old building.
Unfortunately, my area doesn’t have any old building and so I tried to research around the
York area but there still doesn’t seemto have any old buildings I could use. I also need to
research about the studio lights, I can’t because the college’s because there are rules that I
don’t bring the studio lights outside of college.
I want to research about the costumes because in my film I am hoping there will be a party
and the characters will wear fancy dress clothing. But I am little bit worried because I know
the actors I know might not bring their fancy dress outfits because they don’t want to ruin
them by being covered in the fake blood. I have got a back-up plan, to just use normal
casual clothes because they are easy to use and they will bring their old clothes. I need to
research about how to make fake blood, and lots of it, because there will be lots of bloody
and gore in my film.
