Project proposal title and date:
Alternative Film Posters
Main area of activity:
The medium that I will be working in is photography. I have a passion for photography and would
like to expand my knowledge and skill set by experimenting with portraits, street and night
photography. I am going to use my own photography to create alternative movie posters that are
unique and different to the mainstream artwork.
Rationale:
Over the past 2 years, I have made a range of different products surrounding the nature
photography theme including calendars, guidebook, portfolio and a fanzine. I have acquired a
range of skills on Photoshop including the camera raw filter, dodge and burn tool and curves. I will
apply these skills when editing my photographs for this project as well as applying new techniques
that I have learned from YouTube tutorials. My previous product was a fanzine and a nature
campaign leaflet. Because these products follow different styles of photography, they will not
impact upon my work that much, however I can learn from mistakes that I made in the projects and
learn from them to make sure the FMP runs smoothly.
Project Concept:
I am going to create alternative film posters and a website where the prints will be sold. I would like
to produce my own unique photography and use it as the cover for mainstream films. I will need to
conduct research by looking at examples of artists and their work and inspiration. It will help create
my product because I can learn new techniques that can be used during production. It will also
help generate new ideas for different films so that the project is more creative. I would like to look
at examples of current alternative film posters and analyse what skills and techniques are used on
the poster. This would help improve the quality of my work and make it look more professional.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will evaluate my work myself by analysing each poster in detail of colour scheme, photography
style, font and tone. In previous evaluations, I have also had peer feedback so that they can share
what they like and dislike about my work. Throughout the production process, I will write
development diaries, which includes what work I have done on each day. This means that I can
evaluate my production in much more detail. In the future, I am going to be studying photography
at university, therefore this process will help develop my work in the future. I will have plenty of
experience on Photoshop and within other styles of photography.
