• Originator = Esmarch
• Origin = Officially adopted in 1879 by St. John
Ambulance Association
• Definition = Immediate and temporary care
given to the victim of an accident or sudden
illness
• Purpose = Preserve life, assist recovery and
prevent aggravation of the condition until the
services of doctor reached
5. FIRST AID MATERIALS
• It generally contained following items:
Adhesive tapes and bandages
Anesthetic spray
4" x 4" sterile gauze pads
2", 3", and 4" Ace bandages

Principle of removing the cause of injury
Principle of stoping bleeding immediately
Principle of ensuring the free supply of air to
the patient
Principle of keeping the patient warm
Principle of removal of clothes including shoes
of the patient without causing him
unnecessary pain
