Fire Prevention Essay
1. Fire Prevention Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of fire prevention is, in itself, a challenging endeavor. The
intricacies involved in addressing the importance of fire safety, discussing preventive measures,
and elucidating the potential consequences of neglect require a thoughtful approach.
To begin with, extensive research is essential to gather accurate information on fire prevention
methods, statistics, and case studies. Understanding the various causes of fires and the
effectiveness of different preventive measures demands thorough exploration of authoritative
sources. This process can be time-consuming and may require sifting through a plethora of data
to ensure the essay's accuracy and reliability.
Moreover, organizing the information in a coherent and compelling manner poses its own set of
challenges. Striking a balance between providing factual information and engaging the reader
with a persuasive narrative is crucial. Transitioning smoothly between different aspects of fire
prevention, from the importance of smoke detectors to the significance of emergency evacuation
plans, requires a skillful hand in essay composition.
In addition, the essay should not only inform but also motivate readers to take proactive steps in
fire prevention. This necessitates a thoughtful incorporation of persuasive elements, perhaps
through the use of real-life examples or emotionally resonant anecdotes.
The complexity deepens when considering the need to tailor the essay to a specific audience.
Different age groups, professions, or communities may require unique approaches to effectively
communicate the importance of fire prevention.
In conclusion, writing an essay on fire prevention is a multifaceted task that demands thorough
research, adept organizational skills, and a persuasive touch. It is an intricate process that goes
beyond mere information dissemination, requiring a nuanced understanding of the subject matter
and the audience. For those seeking assistance with such essays or similar academic tasks,

2. Lust By Susan Minot
It s much easier to openly express sexuality in this current era of social awareness
and change. Many people have been slowly accepting the idea of the reclamation
of a woman s body, possibly due to the wide representation in contemporary media.
However, this still seems like a radical idea to others. Susan Minot s Lust describes
a time when society was near the beginning of sexual liberation. On one spectrum,
there is the narrator a teenage girl attending boarding school, exploring her sexuality
by having all of these experiences with different boys. On the other spectrum is the
narrator s house mother, who s only been with one man her entire life. It s implied
that she believes the sole purpose of sexis to deliver babies. These two... Show more

Only giving the names of the boys that she s encountered implies that she places
more value on them than herself and that the focus on her relationships was mainly
on the boy she was with at the time. However, the way she described what she did
with these boys made it seem like they didn t matter at all. From an outsider s point
of view, it may appear as if the men are in control. From an introspective view, she
was simply using them for her own personal reasons. The narrator describes her
early experiences with boys in a brief, but telling paragraph (269). The brothers
that lived next door to her would mess with her by tying her ankles together and
trapping her in rooms. They would only stop when they got bored. Even back then,
it seemed like boys had power over her. This can be seen as an allusion to her male
relationships now. Although her neighbors would bully her, she could play whiffle
ball just as well as they can. This proves that underneath the different societal
treatment of boys and girls, they re the same and should be regarded in the same
way. As previously stated, the list of her encounters in the beginning of story are not
descriptive at all. There is no emotion behind the words, which leads to the
conclusion that she feels apathetic towards her sexual episodes. It s clear that she s
not doing these things for her own personal enjoyment. She could be doing this to
3. Civil War Warfare
Bloody Battles:
Throughout the Civil War, there were many different types of warfare. Amongst the
common Union and Confederate soldiers, many men fought on either side in
different types of irregular military forces. These forces, along with regular soldiers,
contributed to the many styles of warfare. Three prominent warfare styles during the
Civil War were regularly trained soldiers, bushwhackers, and guerrilla soldiers. The
majority of battles were fought by official Union or Confederate soldiers. These
battles typically had some sort of organization and were not extremely violent. A
large portion of the remainder of the fighting was done by guerrilla soldiers or
bushwhackers. The attacks carried out by the guerrilla soldiers were more violent, ...

Guerrilla soldiers were a very prominent type, they are known for their
disorganized and violent attacks which resulted in many casualties and injuries.
Along with being disorganized and violent, theses attacks were also the cause of
additional fear among the regular troops. The guerrilla soldiers were well known
for their surprise ambushes, but often there was time for the trained soldiers to be
warned of a possible ambush, as Jacob Haas often mentions in his journal entries. If
carried out, these ambushes could leave many men wounded, or even dead. The
Union men were aware of the deaths caused by the guerrillas, which is also seen in
Haas journal when he writes On the 15th, two guerillas were hanged... they boasted
that they had murdered many Union Men.

meanings. Independence is happy because imagine when a person has taken freedom

5. The Key Role Of Finance
The key role of finance in any business is to manage money; whether it be raising
capital through share capital and bank loans, raising credit (short term capital), or
handling the costs of the business. Without finance, a business would not function, as
quoted by (Griffin, 2015); Money is the lifeblood of a business and financeis the nerve
center .
Key activities of the finance department:
Firstly, one of the key activities of the finance department is to maintain a check on
the costs/outgoings of the business. This is important because if the business spends
too much, it may have to dip into its capital money invested into the business to start
it in the first place or it may have to take out bank loans, in order to finance the ...

This is very important because a business needs to know exactly where and when
all of its money has been spent at any given time in order to be able to reduce the
costs for the future. For example, for the year ending 2014 Arcadia Group generated
ВЈ316.8 million revenue and finished up with ВЈ143.1 million pre tax profit.
(Limited, 2014) The decisions made by the accountants in the finance department
leading up to and after the publication of these figures is essential to the financial
success of the Arcadia Group (Topshop, Top man, Wallis, etc). Without constant
reviews and informed judgements and decisions (Weetman, 2006) by the accountants
in finance, the Arcadia Group would start to make a loss and possibly, eventually go
bankrupt. By evaluating the figures and reaching conclusions on them, the Arcadia
Group will be better able to maximize the profits for the company.
Key tools and ideas that are critical to finance:
One of the key ideas behind the finance function is the question; Is the business
making a profit? This is because without making a profit, a business would not
continue to exist. For example, in 2013 Ford made $8.6 billion in pre tax profits, but
in 2014 Ford made $6.3 billion, so there was a drop of $2.3 billion (Ford,

Northerners and Southerners, presidents and legislators, owners and laborers,

8. Good Timing Is A Team
Discuss what you are learning from a team that you are currently leading, or to
which you belong Leading a team is not based on the leader but also the team
members, every team member has a role to play and every team member brings
something to the table. In a team one thing that someone learns is that setting goals
is an important aspect, goals and deadlines are important factors that have to be set
before any projects are started. Discipline of every team member is what will
determine the success of a team; discipline involves setting timelines and ensuring
they are achieved. Involving every member is important in order to ensure that the
team is working towards the vision of the team and no one is lagging behind. Good
timing is a plus in leadership, timing is an important factor in team leadership, and it
assures leadership helps a team rather than distracts members. Good timing means
taking action to assist a team when the team is ready to receive and use the help
that it is being offered. Bad timing is something many people suffer from but they
do not understand the intensity of bad timing, it involves failing to act when one is
required to assist effectively. Timing is divided into two categories and the first
category is based on getting ready for circumstances that are predictable. Connie
Gersick says that in this timing, groups develop distinctive approaches towards tasks
as soon as it is started hold on to the approach until halfway before the deadline and

10. Sainsbury Mergers
Mergers and acquisition in the retail industry According to Froud (1999) in
grocery retail customers real expenditure on food in UK has been stable around 32
to 34 billion pounds a year since 1960 and hence the major retailers were able to
achieve growth on the expense of other smaller retailers. Therefore retailers may
pursuit mergers and acquisitions as a mean for growth. One of the main mergers in
the retail industry is the merger of Carrefour and Promodes in France to create the
world s second largest retailer after Wal mart. One of the main reasons for this
merger is that both companies find it difficult to grow organically. Nevertheless the
need for growth is not only to boost their financial performance but also to create a
major force to fight Wal mart, which entered the German market and later acquired
Asda a major retailer in the UK s market (The Economist, 1999). Through this Merger
Carrefour created instant growth and positive impact on its shareholder value.

Ezra Pound: The Father of Modernism
Ezra Pound has been deemed one of Poetry s most important contributors.
(Remembering Poets, 1). T.S. Eliot and Donald Hall both believed Ezra Pound to be
the biggest influence on poetry of his time. (Poetry.org, 1). He was dedicated to his
work, and from a young age, until his death in 1972, he worked tirelessly, creating
poetry that some deigned controversial, whether aesthetically or politically. Those
who did not find these controversial, the critics, the public, were too scared to read
his works. Pound however, never let any of this keep him from continuing to pursue
his dreams and do what he loved, writing poetry. Instead, he concentrated on
advancing his art and maintaining his standards with his aesthetics, while speaking
out against these naysayers, showing them that he was not intimidated by his
adversaries.

14. Tuition Cost Solution For College
Tuition is what most high graduates worry about for college. It is a topic that is
mentioned in the news, presidential debates, and amongst students. Some would
argue that college cannot be completely free but that it should be lowered to
reasonable price that can make college more affordable and easier access to low
income families. Others oppose this standpoint by stating that the decrease in tuition
would also decrease the quality of education that many are paying thousands of
dollars for. Should tuition cost decrease or remain the same? Tuition effects billions
of students in the United Statestoday. Collegeis expensive for it does not cover
books, fees, rides, food, room and board. Which is the main reason why college
students and parents advocate that tuition should be lowered because there are so
many other expenses. If college would lower tuition then it would be more accessible
to low income families. This is proven by the statistics that The Christian Monitor
(2009) has provided;
In 1998, the share of American 25 to 34 year olds holding a bachelor s degree was
rising, and the US was tied for first place with South Korea. Since 2000, that share
has slipped, with America falling to seventh place...Obama wants America to get
back on top with college graduates by 2020. (p.8) Tuition in the 90 s was not as high
as it is today. Tuition in the 1990 s was lower than ten thousand dollars vs today,
which depending on institution, can be over twenty thousand dollars. Which

Research and Development and Financial Performance of UK Manufacturing Firms
UK manufacturing firms have many factors which influence their financial
performance. Research and Development could be a key factor in determining a
firms success, however it does not assure financial improvement in all businesses due
to the extensive variety of business types. Research and Development can be defined
as the scientific investigation necessary to discover new products and the process of
bringing these products onto the market. A manufacturing firm, which generally

either a finished product or further processed materials, by ... Show more content on

However, Research and Development can also be used by small shops and retailers,
by means of questionnaires, staff suggestion boxes, feedback forms and market
research etc.. This low amount of Research and Development is typically normal, as
small shops rely more on customer service, niche markets, and reasonable quality and
price products.
Research and Development can often be a very risky process, since much money can
be spent on ideas that will never be commercialised. In product oriented firms, such as
manufacturing companies have many factors which affect their financial
performance. Research and Development is a useful way of improving profits, if
there is significant funding, to employ scientists and researchers to produce and
develop the most technically advanced products to date, which can then be marketed
and turned into cash cows or stars. Also Research and Development could develop
new methods to produce existing products, to lower average costs. However this
depends on the skill of the scientists and researchers, because despite how much
money is pumped into the Research and Development department, without ideas,
invention and innovation the business will have no rewards. Furthermore, even if
Research and Development does
its job, this will be worthless if the manufacturing firm has too specialised equipment,
which is unable to be flexible enough to

When I was done reading the Union Carbide Corporation and Bhopal case, I thought
that there was one tremendous ethical issue in the article. I consider that it was
wrong for the Indian government to place such a vast amount of pressure on the
United States based on the Union Carbide Corporation for freedom and
independence for the new Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) industrialized plant.
This stress eventually led to the Bhopal Tragedy that took place on 3 December
1984. The stress that was placed on the United Statesbased on the Union Carbide
Corporation came primarily so that the Indian Government could be in control. The
amount of control the Indian Government had on the corporation was, so they would

This whole issue could have been avoided if the Indian Government would have let
the Union Carbide Corporation have a large amount of control over their everyday
production of the manufacturing plant. The plant was run by unqualified people
that were not familiar with the raw material or how to deal with hazardous
situations. From the Union Carbide Corporations perspective, it seems that one
potential course of action would have been to decline handing over the business to
the Indian Government. The Union Carbide Corporation could have continued to
import raw materials in place of producing it at the Bhopal facility. The Union
Carbide Corporation was given no choice from the Indian Government, but to go
alongside what they had previously done in order to become successful. It is hard
to implement the possible courses of achievement when they obliviously had no
control over their own plant. The only solution that I could come up with would
have been to make sure all the workers were made aware of the raw material. I
would make sure that they were trained and skilled United State workers working at
the plant the entire time. The United States Union Carbide and the Indian
Government case could have been theatrically different if it was not for some
different cultures. The first cultural difference would be the development of building
the plant, along with all the workforce

When people tell stories they tend to be about what they know. One thing that most
people know is the environment around them. They pick up habits from their family,
friends, and neighbors. They begin to talk like them using dialect and slang inherent
to their region. Also, it is not uncommon for people to write about a fictional
community that is based from their own community. As community affects how we
write, writingcan also affect the community. In other words, communities influence

Faulkner s writing is extremely eloquent and deliberate. The time period also comes
out through the language in his writing referring to African Americans as Negros and
to Northerners as Yankees. It soon becomes quite obvious that Faulkner must have
been raised in the same time and place this story takes place. Communities do not
only affect the language of the author but they also can provide the community of the
author s work. Some communities act like an extended family and an author may
want to show that aspect. Sometimes an author may wish to write about a close knit
community that knows everyone else s business. Often a writer will write about their
community, illustrating certain cultural aspects that they hold dear. All of these can
be examples of the writer s community coming to life in their own stories. In A
Rose for Emily, (DiYanni, 2007, pp. 79 84) Faulkner shows us a community that is
very involved with each other. They are constantly talking about what Miss Emily
does, what she says, and who she sees. The author speaks for the community using
the pronoun we throughout the story. He describes how the community reacts to
Homer Barron trying to court her, At first we were glad that Miss Emily would
have an interest... (p. 82). Everyone becomes very interested in Miss Emily s love
life. When she buys poison they become worried that she was

Life will be more fantastic if we are holding dreams in our minds. However, the
dream should rather be a target. The gap, which between the dream and realistic,

22. Freedom of the Press Versus Right to Privacy
Freedom of the press versus right to privacy
ByRobert Skidelsky (China Daily)
Privacy has become a big issue in contemporary jurisprudence. The right to privacy is
enshrined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, and guaranteed by
Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. But Article 8 is balanced by
Article 10, which guarantees free expression of opinion . So what right has priority
when they conflict?
Under what circumstances, for example, is it right to curtail press freedom in order
to protect the right to privacy, or vice versa? The same balance is being sought
between the right of citizens to data privacy and government demands for access to
personal information to fight crime, terrorism, and so on. ... Show more content on

A law that curtails the abuse of press power while protecting its freedom to expose
the abuse of political power would be difficult, but not impossible, to frame. The
essential principle is that the media should not be allowed to pander to the public s
prurience under cover of protecting the public interest.
What famous people indeed ordinary people, too do in private should be off limits
to the media unless they give permission for those activities to be reported,
photographed, or filmed. The only exceptions would be if a newspaper has
reasonable grounds for believing that the individuals concerned are breaking the law,
or that, even if they are not breaking the law, they are behaving in such a way as to
render them unfit to perform the duties expected of them.
Thus, a pop star s consumption of illegal drugs may be reported, but not his or her
sexual habits (if they are legal). The private life of a politician may be revealed if it
is expected to have consequences for the way the country is being governed; that of
a top executive of a public company if it may affect the returns to shareholders.
This should be the only public interest defense available to a media outlet that is
sued for invasion of privacy. The media might become a bit drearier, but public life
would be far healthier.

23. Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill Essay
5.Analyse how the writer(s) use(s) language techniques for a particular purpose in a
written text or texts you have studied. Katherine Mansfield uses an extensive range
of language techniques to portray the lonely and slightly delusional spinster; Miss
Brill. The story of Miss Brill is an extremely good example of how a writer can use
different language techniques to reveal a variety of aspects of the character.
The author uses characterisation through the language techniques to reveal a variety
of truths to the reader about Miss Brill s personality. Mansfield uses the language
techniques to express the theme of connectedness throughout the story. Mansfield
also uses symbolism, setting and point of views by the different characters in her
story to create a clear scene and atmosphere for the readers. Symbolism is very
important throughout the short story as it illustrates a vivid understanding of who
Miss Brill is, which is easily expressed through the relationship between Miss Brill
and her fox fur. BODY PARAGRAPH #1
Miss Brill s fur is an extension of herself. The fox fur throughout the novel
thoroughly symbolises Miss Brill and her life in a variety of ways. Miss Brill
whom has lost all sense of connectedness throughout the story is able to strongly
connect to the fox fur on a very ominous level. Mansfield makes it clear that Miss
Brill lives her life through the fox fur; by links of characteristics between the fur and
Miss Brill, which are fairly similar.

4 Tips To Enjoy Your Vacation
Here are the four best ways to enhance your vacation experience on Dent Island.
Important tips include organizing and planning the trip, balancing the amount of
activities in a specific time frame, stepping outside your comfort zone trying new
things, and establishing a deep connection with nature.
Planning Things Ahead of Time
Organizing each activity in advance would release the burden of winging it. On the
flip side, planning things ahead of time could also become extremely challenging
because it requires lots of research, which is a time consuming task. This could
become an inconvenience for a business person with many responsibilities on their
plate because they do not have the time to spare. Well, there is light at the end of the
tunnel! Setting up a Jet Boat Adventure Tour will relieve all the stress and pain
associated with planning a trip because the company owning the tour does all the
research and preparation work for you.
2. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

zone and doing different things is a great way to really enjoy a vacation. Travelers
with an adventurous spirit will sometimes close their eyes, spin a globe, and place
their forefinger on a location and go there. Although this is a ... Show more content on

27. The And Its Effects On Indigenous People
Bioprospecting is aimed to make humans rich, not to conserve forests (Onaga 2001).
Even though the Convention on Biological Diversity called for more benefit
sharing, in most cases bioprospecting agreements cannot be enforced by source
countries, communities, or the convention (Sandhu 3,4). This makes biopiracy
common, since the country that makes a successful commercial product is likely to
want to protect their intellectual property rights and neglect indigenous
contributions (Cluis 1). A local curing plant that was once a free commodity to
indigenous people, is now a marketed one that becomes unaffordable for the ones
that discovered its value and used it before anyone else (Cluis 1). In 1969, a fungus
containing cyclosporin was collected in Norway and brought to Switzerland for
screening (Dhillion et al. 492). It happened to be an immunosuppressant that could
treat patients with organ transplantations. This discovery was before the Convention
on Biological Diversity, so Norway got no credit. However, if they would have
received a mere 2% royalty from the profit, they would have gained $24.3 million in
1997 alone, proving the incredible economic potential bioprospecting has (Dhillion et
al. 492). Bioprospecting can also harm the environment, the National Cancer Institute
(NCI) has been criticized for devastating populations of Maytenus Buchananii, a
native Kenyan species with medicinal uses (Dhillion et al. 492). Lack of legal

Symbols have a major impact on both Things Fall Apart and The Poisonwood
Bible. They help display the story in different perspectives and help us understand
concepts we don t always pick up on when first reading the novels. These symbols
reveal more in depth detail about the themes of each novel as well as add to the
development of characters. Some major symbols seen in Things Fall Apartare the
locusts which make a reference to the Bible and are a metaphor for the coming
missionaries, Okonkwo s father, Unoka, who symbolizes Okonkwo s failures, and
fire which symbolizes destruction. The major themes in The Poisonwood Bible are
the snake which represents a character from the bible, Methuselah who symbolizes
the fate of the Congoand the poisonwood tree which symbolizes Nathan s mistakes.
The first symbol we see in Things Fall Apart is Okonkwo s father, Unoka. Unoka was

significant symbol in the novel because he is the reason why Okonkwo is the way
he is. Okonkwo doesn t want to be a failure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What are the responsibilities of the Department of Interior?
As the nation s principal conservation agency, the U.S. Department of the Interior has

31. Border Wall And Illegal Immigration
One of the oldest justifications for a government is as a protector. Governments
provide security, economic stability and social welfare for its citizens (Slaughter
2017). Without border control, there would be mass immigration, which would lead
to major job losses and economic instability (Mcguire 2017). This research paper
intends to explore the question: how does a border wall influence illegal immigration?
I argue that countries that allocate resources for the construction of border walls will
tend to have less illegal immigration. This is important because every country has the
right to control and protect its borders. In other words, each country has the right to
know who enters and who leaves in order to protect its borders. In this regard, it is
important to acknowledge that the implementation of a border wall has significant
consequences to economic, social, and political stability within a country.
This paper will begin by defining the concepts used in our research proposal and
provide several differing perspectives on the concepts being discussed. Moreover, we
will relate our research question with a contemporary scenario, and demonstrate the
relationships of our key variables through a causal mechanism. The causal mechanism
will link the dependent variable that is illegal immigration to border wall, our
independent variable. Finally, we will finish by presenting testable hypotheses and
the methodologies that will determine our empirical research. If

Soldier s Home by Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway Soldier s Home is an outstanding short story that shows the
tragic impact of war on the life of a young soldier who returns home. The story
paints a vibrant picture of a soldier s life after coming back from a shocking
experience. Hemingway shows impacts of war on a soldier with the main character
being Harold Krebs, who faces hostility in his hometown after his return from fighting
in the war. The main character in the story is Kreb with the author making usage of
repetition, characterization, and symbolism to bring out the message in the story.

Hemingway has made use of the book as a symbol of war to stress the soldier s
inability to lead a normal life (McKenna and Raabe 210). The symbol is used in the
context of many other elements that convey Krebs distance from his own life. The
book about war is a literary symbol that Hemingway employs in a specific context.
In this short story, the author uses repetition, and unconventional detail to illustrate
the different ways hunger can be manifested and differentiate them. In order to
emphasize the various kinds of hunger he felt, the author uses repetition. In the story,
he uses the device often as the term hunger is frequent in the entire passage.
Hemingway also uses the word for emphasis on the significance and the meaning,
which leaves the reader to apply syntax to comprehend the correct meaning (De,
Baerdemaeker 65). A phrase such as, he was starving in a simple way, means that he
feels hungry because he hasn t eaten any food. Hemingway talks about hunger as
being simple because its connotation is denotative of the word. In the book the work,
the other kinds of hunger are at times intricate to decipher. In the instance that
Hemingway questions Hadley about whether he is hungry, Hadley replies that there
are various kinds of hunger. He says that spring has a diversified hunger, but that was
in the past as memory is no hunger. There is repetition of the term hunger as evident
in unconventional settings when Hemingway tells Hadley to define hunger.

34. Argumentative Essay On The Mother Of A Mother
It takes more than one person to have a child. The mother does carry the baby
through a long nine months, but she does need help sometimes. The father has his
own special way to care for his newborn. When a baby comes into the world it needs
a lot of care and attention. This is a lot of pressure on the motherall alone. This is why
fathers need to get paternity leave along with his wife or mother of his child. There
are biological, legal, and even moral reasons why a father should have time off to
spend with his new baby.
They say a woman becomes a mother when she finds out that she is expecting, and
a man becomes a father the first time he holds his baby. After a month a baby is
able to tell apart his or her mom and dad. For decades, psychologists and other
researchers assumed that the mother child bond was the most important bond in a
child s life. Within the last several decades scientists are increasingly realizing just
how much dads matter. Just like women, fathers bodies respond to parenthood, and
their parenting style affects their kids just as much, and sometimes more, than mom
s. When one person is at home with a new baby and the other remains at work, they
can start living in different worlds and have less to talk about. The stay at home mom
wants to discuss the baby s milestones and the working dad, while interested, misses
their dinner conversations about the workplace. If parents can afford to take

2.1.1 Efficiency Improvement
Supply chain efficiency is a strategy that concentrates on minimizing procurement,

information flow is a cycle that specifies the transfer of messages within the supply

transformation and delivery processes from supply market to demand market (Chen,

documents accessible in the supply network reduce the associated costs in the
network. For instance, five star hotels in Istanbul adopt SCM for communication and
transactions with suppliers, as this is a speedy, reliable and friendly accessible

Abstract
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a component of the health care system of China that can be traced
back at least 2,500 years. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise
that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for
health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease.
Acupuncture may, it has been theorized, correct imbalances of flow at identifiable
points close to the skin.
Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances

Some acupuncture patients report feeling relief from pain after just one treatment.
Others notice results after a series of treatments.
Another positive aspect of acupuncture is that it generally causes few or no side
effects either during or after treatment. Despite the fact that treatment sessions
involve piercing the skin with needles, the needles used are extremely thin, and thus
their insertion does not cause pain in most patients. It is also rare for patients to
experience effects such as bruising or soreness following a treatment.
Many find that the price of treatments is a major disadvantage to using acupuncture
for pain management. Often, multiple treatments are needed before one s pain begins
to diminish. As it is generally considered a form of alternative or complementary
medicine, acupuncture may not be covered by one s health insurance, and thus can be
costly.
Further, acupuncture is not guaranteed to reduce pain, and a significant number of
patients find that it has no noticeable effect. In fact, medical researchers are still
uncertain as to why acupuncture lessens pain in some individuals. Based on
comparative studies of groups receiving acupuncture and those receiving a mock
treatment, it seems that the technique s success or failure may be partly due to
psychological factors.
Finally, using acupuncture for pain management can lead

90% of the company s revenues are from the provision of discount brokerage
services. The company s objective is to improve its competitive position in deep
discount brokerage. In order to achieve this objective, the company must grow its
customer base, requiring an investment of $100 million to upgrade its technological
capabilities as well as an increase of $155 million for its advertisement budget. In
order to evaluate the company s cost of capital, we used the Cost Asset Pricing
Model. Since the company went public recently, it would not be an accurate

Estimating the Cost of Capital In order to calculate the cost of capital of Ameritrade
we will use the Capital Asset Pricing Model. This model helps estimate the required
rate of return of a certain investment for the given risk. In the case of Ameritrade, we
can use this method by finding the most accurate risk free rate, market risk premium
and asset beta. We can then find the return on assets by using the following formula:
Ra= Rf+ ОІa (Rm Rf) To find the asset Beta (ОІa), we need to find the weighted
average ОІ of equity and the weighted average ОІ of debt. We consider the ОІ of debt
to be 0, as debt has no relationship with market risk and it is evident from the balance
sheet that Ameritrade had no interest bearing debt in 1997[1]. ОІa=D/(D+E)* ОІD+E
/(D+E)ОІE ОІa=D/(D+E) *0+E/(D+E)ОІE So ОІa=E/(D+E)ОІE Estimating the Risk
free rate The historic average returns from 1950 to 1996 and from 1929 to 1996 are
given In Exhibit 3. We chose the latter time period as we considered it would give
us a more reliable estimate of the risk free rate by discounting both the Second
World War and the Great Depression. It is necessary to evaluate the expected length
of the project and utilize a risk free rate applicable for the same time period.
Ameritrade is investing $100 million dollars in technology, which is considered a
long term investment, in order to become the largest brokerage firm. We consider their

42. David Hume On Sympathy
Hume states that sympathy is the chief source of moral [judgments] Sympathy is a
powerful principle in human nature, a mental principle that causes us to feel what
others are feeling. Sympathy is a psychological mechanism that enables one person to
receive by communication the sentiments of another. Our moral evaluation of people
s character traits arise from our own emotions, or sentiments of moral approval and
disapproval.
According to Hume, moral judgments originates from sympathy. Hume believes that
the ability to judge from a moral point of view is only possible when we have
experienced sympathy or understand what sympathy is.
The word sympathy has its roots in Ancient Greek. The prefix sym means with or
together, and Pathy refers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But generally, we know that sympathy is not merely an emotional experience; it
also moves us to do something. For example, adverts for charities that show children
with dirty, tear stained faces appeal to our sympathy and are designed so that we
will be moved to donate some of our money. This kind of emotional response to the
suffering of another living being is sometimes called pity. This is usually what people
nowadays think about when they hear the word sympathy.
According to Hume s theory, we can catch on to the emotions of other people all
kinds of emotions, the happy and the sad. But there should be a second point to it:,
when you experience an emotion, you can chose to act or not act. You might be
moved to tears by an advertisement put out by a charity for starving children, but then
decide not to donate any money. Yes, the motion in e motions in humanbeings is not
automatic. But in general, these are the kinds of things that motivate us to act: our
desires, our fears, and our
43. Good And Evil In Anthony Burgess s A Clockwork Orange
The biggest battles in history is, has been, and always will be between good and
evil, but where does evil originate? Is it something inherited, or is it something
learned? Anthony Burgess attempts to answer this question in his dystopian
fiction, A Clockwork Orange. The novel, written during the Cold War, is a
reflection of Burgess s viewpoint on Communism and its overall impact on
society. Burgess was appalled at the degree to which the communist state
controlled people s lives (Galens). He felt that when a man cannot choose he ceases
to be a man (Burgess 63). Throughout the novel, Burgess tried to decide whether or
not it is better to be forced to be good or choose to be evil. A Clockwork Orange
shows that humans are inherently evil, but they have the potential to change as
demonstrated with diction, use of imagery, and character development.
Throughout the entire novel, Burgess tries to show that humans are naturally
immoral. This is demonstrated through his diction. The language in the book, Nadsat,
is a mixture between English and Russian, which allows Burgess to hide the darker
events in the book. For example, while out with his gang, Alex and his friends run
into a scholar, destroy his books, and beat him up. In regards to this Alex says, The
old veck began to make sort of chumbling shooms wuf waf wof so Georgie let go of
holding his goobers apart and just let him have one in the toothless rot with his ringy
fist, and that made the old veck start moaning a

accomplish, the time it will take, what resources, the timeframe for completion and
finally a way to evaluate the success and failures of the project. According to
Meredith Shafer (2010), a project plan should focus on the following key elements:
project overview, scope, business case, milestones, resources, risk managementplan
and an evaluation at the conclusion of the project (p.218). The utilization of these
key elements will allow Duke Energy to properly establish a well organize project
that has a clearly defined scope and deliverables. The main goal of project planningis
to establish why the project originated and exactly what must be accomplished...

45. Essay about A Swift Change Is Imminent
At a first glance, a misogynist s paradise is apparent when perceiving Jonathan
Swift s The Lady s Dressing Room and a cannibalistic one in A Modest Proposal.
However, Swift s intricate feelings do not depict Ireland s crude social convention,
but rather for Swift s revolutionary vitriolic satire, which permeates humanity s
blindness through political stand points. By using grotesque metaphors, to open the
figurative eyes of the public, Swift s poetry forced society to analyze the ways of
living in order to push reform. The push came in his many satiric works, which
criticized humanity, but also acquitted the feelings of a personal vendetta. Swift s
vendetta against oppression in his society constructed the transition to a more heavily

From a political stand point, Swift, in appealing to the British landlords of Ireland,
revealed that humanity for the Irish would either be audacious and existent or
stupefied and full of carnage. The audience as well, the people of Ireland, know the
troubles and have no reason to argue against the same philosophy in thought, Swift
proposes, but rather entertain it for if the law makers realize the extent of damage
their country is facing, they will also endure the hardship; provoking an adequate
reformation. Swift further argues reform by magnifying his vendetta As to our city
of Dublin, shambles may be appointed for this purpose in the most convenient parts
of it, and butchers we may be assured will not be wanting, meaning conformity, has
caused Ireland s socio economic problems. What furthermore, can a carver of brutal
proportions fulfill in respect to Dublin, titivate the carved proportions of an immoral
death (Swift 284)? Introducing children was essential to show oppression as most
kids are nurtured by their parents in an oppressive and controlling manner. The death
and birth of children in A Modest Proposalexhibits the end of oppressive rule but
the beginning of a violated and easily corruptible muse: political oppression.
However, Swift s immediate muse for writing A Modest Proposal is because he must
inform and liberate the community from the failures of politics. Ireland does no
longer contain the luxury or strategy

able to see the rights and the wrongs of many political talks. Religion : Being taught

Credit Card Debt
Strapped , an extract from a book by Tamara Draut, takes a hard look at credit card
debt and the harsh implications it bears on young people throughout their lives.
Young people are swamped from the very start of their adult lives and can be forced
to take drastic measures just to survive. Even though they have good intentions, they
have little choice but to dig themselves deeply into the hole. Crippling credit card debt
has been a concerning issue for decades and is consistently worsening due to an
ongoing conflict between card companies, young people, their parents, and their
financial values.

The beginnings of this problem can be attributed to Baby Boomers and their
inability to balance their spending habits (Par. 16). Gen Xers took it to a whole
new level. Gen Xers, on average, had 47 percent more credit card debt than Baby
Boomers at the same stage of life (Par. 10). Millennials continue to build on that
backward momentum. We all have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends
from our Greatest Generation. They are saving and scrimping gods and even
during the Great Depression, managed to hold off and save as much as possible.
As much as it may be unfavorable, the Era of Debt has arrived. The growing
concern that more and more Americans are living by the if you have it, spend it rule

48. The Crime Of Measuring Crime
Measuring crime remains a difficult challenge despite years of research and
reportable crime data. To say this problem has stumped policymakers and law
enforcement professionals is an understatement. Each year statistics and crime data
are collected using numerous means for study and released in public reports. The
merits behind these collections are numerous as are the potential uses for the data. Of
particular consideration are the Uniform CrimeReports and the National Incident
Based Reporting System. While both reports aim to measure the different aspects of
crime, much is often lost in translation when presented to the general population.
First we will examine the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and some of the key
characteristics that differentiate it from other reporting methods. The UCR is a
crime measurement system that was established in 1929 by the International
Association of Chiefs of Police in order to provide information at the national level
on serious crimes reported to law enforcement from the state level and lower. This
system was originally published in a guide entitled Crime Reporting: A Complete
Manual for Police. The intent of this manual was to establish reporting criteria and
categories of offenses.
To meet the criteria for this type of reporting the crime must be of a serious offense
and be considered highly likely to be reported to the police. All data reported to this
system is voluntary. Originally, these specific crime types were referred to as
49. Heavy Influence On Mexican Culture
Something I learned
Being born into a small town in Texas where a heavy influence on Mexican culture
applies to almost everyone. It makes me realized that food really plays a major part
in identifying myself as a Mexican. Because the food, makes our culture unique. In
addition, learning to make my very first ever batch of tamales made me realized that
it was a memorable experience.
It was early in the morning, and I had just woken up because I hear voices and
objects being moved around in my grandma s kitchen. I got up from the bed and
made my way down the hallway straight to the kitchen. Once I entered the kitchen I
saw all of my aunts with my grandma kneading the corn flour. I just stood there by
the wooden door and watched as my aunts would laugh and talk to each other while
the kneaded the corn flour. It was a beautiful sight to see because of the sunlight
that was coming in from the window was hitting their faces and making it look like
they were glowing. I started to look around the medium size room and saw the big
dining table in the middle of the kitchen leaving little space to walk around properly.
I had walked into the kitchen, and all my aunts turned around and saw me standing
there. My aunt Diana told me in Spanish Come over and sit down and help us make
tamales for Christmas dinner. It s about time you start learning our Mexican
traditions. So I went and washed my hand before being able to sit down next to her
and she told me to help knead the dough with
50. Vegetarian Lunches In Schools
Although some schools have salad bars, should schools have a larger variety of
healthy foods for kids that want to have low fat and/or vegetarian lunch options?
There are actually good benifits of having these healthier eating choices at a school.
Here are some benefits of that. First and foremost, having low fat or vegetarian
lunches is it improves academic performance. Eatinghealthy can give you more
energy, which can help you listen and pay attention better. Which can make your
grades escalate. Also it can affect your attendance, having good attendance can also
make your grades escalate. Being at school everyday, you can learn more than
students who choose to stay at home a lot.
In addition, having low fat or vegetarian lunches are good
51. Narrative Voice In Stand By Me
Stand By Me plummets us into a world of four naГЇve and rebellious children on the
brink of adolescence as they expand their world, discover themselves and find
where their friendships and loyalties lie. The gang consists of Gordie Lachance
(Wil Wheaton), Chris Chambers (River Pheonix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey
Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O Connell) and with some outstanding acting, we
find ourselves in the shoes of Gordie as he recounts his past. After recently finding
out about the untimely demise of his best friend Chris, we are taken back in time to
when he was twelve going into thirteen when I first saw my first dead human being
as the narrative voice puts it. As Gordie flashes back we are straight away taken into

The narrative voice brings our attention to how small their world is when Gordie
says we lived in Castle Rock, but to us, it was the whole world which is
representing him looking back and explaining how life has changed. This notion
of discovering a new world returns at the end of the film when again, the narrative
voice says we were only away for two days but it felt like the small town we lived
in had changed and it is trying to convey how much people can change in just a
small amount of time, and it is reinforced by the idea of the coming of age and how
time flies at such a young age. The movie puts these ideas in our heads with some
scenes that are placed throughout the movie with no connection to the plot but go
very deep into the characters. One of which is a scene where Gordie is sitting
peacefully on the train tracks and a young deer walks into view. This deer is
representing the man motif throughout the movie and how they are coming of age on
this journey because it symbolizes youth and innocence. The narrative voice then
enforces this by saying I didn t tell the others about the deer which shows that Gordie
was having a moment of understanding, which the others wouldn t think of the same
way, and what it
52. Situational Leadership Theory Vs. Model
Situational leadership theory or model comprises a few key elements. These include
four styles of leadership, the maturity level of the subordinates and the developmental
models.
The four leadership styles
According to Hersey and Blanchard, there are four basic leadership styles association
with the situational leadership model. The four are: telling, selling, participating and
delegating.
Telling
As the name suggest, this leadership styles refers to an almost autocratic leadership
role in which the leader tells the subordinates what to do. Furthermore, the leader also
explains how to do the tasks.
Selling
The second style refers to a slightly more democratic model in which there is some
discussion between the leader and the subordinates. The leader is aiming to sell the
idea and message to subordinates and to get them buy into the process and the tasks.
Participating
The third model is largely a democratic leadership approach, as the leader allows
more leeway to the subordinates. The amount of direction from the leader remains
limited and the subordinates have an active role in making decisions and directing the
way the tasks get finished.
Delegating
Finally, Hersey and Blanchard identified the final leadership style, which is
characteristically a hands off approach to leadership. The style means the leader is
less involved in how decisions are done, allowing subordinates to make them and to
take most of the responsibility in getting the job done.

53. Dark Age Vs Dark Ages Dbq
The time period between 400 CE to 1400 CE in Europe could be objectively
proven to be a Dark Age for the first six centuries, but starting in the 11th century,
advances in technology and education started to create upwards growth in culture
and quality of life; therefore, this millennium was more of a transition period than a
Dark Age . Document A, an excerpt from the textbook The Record of Mankind ,
stated that from around 476 CE to 1100 CE, most of Europebecame overrun with
turmoil and confusion, . . . ignorance and lawlessness . The textbook explained the
cause of this barbarism to be from an absence of government, which could have
maintained peace and order (Document A). Crime increased exponentially; this
contributed to a decline
54. Robotics A General Overview of a Robot’s Construction
Humanity was and always is attracted to the concept of an artificial being that
would make life easier and more enjoyable. The word Robot was introduced in 1921
by Karel Capek, who was a check writer in his play R.U.R (Rossuum s Universal
Robots ) that originally meant compulsory labor. Then in 1927 Fritz Lang, in his
movie Metropolis was the first to project a robotin the modern meaning. Nowadays
the general understanding about robots, according to the Robot Institute of America
as of 1979, a robot is perceived as A reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator
designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various
programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks . Simply put,

Mobile robots, or also known as mobots, are quite impressive, when it comes to
curriers in busy building and security guards. These robots are appropriate because of
the high availability, and high reliability since they can work 24/7 and their
coordinates are easily monitored. We can say that mobots are really useful in the
everyday life since we already have automotive cruising vehicles and autonomous
underwater vehicles that reduce human error to the minimum.
Another impressive field that robots are used today is in hazardous environment;
where for a human being would be impossible to be in. For example, lunar
explorers were used to clean up the Chernobyl disaster, and the results were quite
impressive. Considering that robots do not need to breathe, and the effect that
toxic and hazardous materials have on them is minimal or better stated none, the
manipulation of such materials is one of the perfect jobs for them. Also, in this
field, all of us have heard of the robots that have been exploring Mars and other
planets of our solar system. Since the time needed to make the researches and
collecting of samples is quite long for a human to stay and in a way or another quite
dangerous for his physical and mental health, robots that are able to learn and need
no outside guidance except what is built in for them, are the best and most logical
choice.
To keep the awesomeness of robots coming, they are also the ones responsible for
making possible
