1. Kindergarten Practicums: Final reflection
After I have done my practicum in kindergarten, I can say I have learnt
quite a lot.
In general terms, I feel satisfied with the general outcome of my classes,
as I think that I have achieved most of my goals. First of all, I feel that
students enjoyed the period that they spent with me and that they got
engaged with the different proposals and activities. That was the most
important aspect of all for me, as sometimes it might be difficult to catch
their attention and interest with a different language at such a short age.
Another positive aspect was that students seemed to learn and
understand all the contents that they dealt with me (in this case the parts
of the house) as they actively participated in the oral activities and solve
the individual activities too.
Moreover, I was able to use L2 during the whole classes and they seemed
to understand me, so that was really rewarding too. They also used the
specific vocabulary in L2 repeatedly.
As regards the aspects for improvement, I do feel I have some to rethink
for my future practicum, such as trying to introduce different classroom
management strategies. There were some occasions in which children got
a little distracted or got too excited because of a game and that may have
interfered with the lesson development. I realized that larger groups like
these ones work differently from small groups, like the ones I was used to
teach to.
To conclude, I would to like to share what this experience meant for me. I
think that working with kindergarten students is highly rewarding as they
possess a unique energy and sweetness that is worth the effort and all the
time you spend preparing the material needed for the classes. They are
always willing to learn and love everything you make for them. So I can
say I am really happy with this experience and I would definitely go on
working at this level.
