• During this lesson, learners will be able to understand and be able to produce
sentences using the conditional forms taught, as well as to recognize when to use
each of them, according to specific situations.

film to introduce the topic ”second conditional”
· Seating arrangement: students Will be seating in pairs. Only for the game, they will
make groups of 4.

Well, last class we worked with conditionals remember?
Let’s have a look at the chart
To make the zero conditional we use: ( t points to the chart she used the previous class)
Zero conditional
If + Subject + Verb (Present) + , + Subject + Verb (Present)
Here are some examples:
· If it rains, I get wet
· If I have time, I read at night.
· If I study, I pass the test
T: do you remember when we used the zero conditional?
EA: real situation
If student don’t remember I will say that we use to talk about real situations in the present, for example,
If water reaches 100 degrees, it boils, or if people eat too much, they get fat.
Can you give another example?

Transition: excellent. Now, we are going to play a game.
Game: 20’
For this game I need to get together in groups of 5 ( t tells students how to make the groups and gives
each group a dice)
You throw the dice and ask a partner “what do you do if…you eat too much? For example. You look at
the board you get, of course. The first who finishes is the winner.
Transition: great. Now let’s have a look at first conditional…

In case they don’t remember t tells them that we use it for possible situation in the present.

Complete with the first conditional form:

4) If we ___________(wait) here, we ____________(be) late.
5) If I ___________(not/go) to bed early, I ________(be) tired tomorrow.

7) I _________ (buy) a new dress if I ______(have) enough money.
8) He ________(cook) dinner if you _______(go) to the supermarket.
9) They _______(take) a taxi if it ________(rain).
10) If they _____________(have) time, they ______(go) on holidays.

now we’ re going to work with an extract of a film, it is called “Jumper”
it’s about a boy who has a special ability.So I want you to pay special attention to the
details, ready?
T plays the movie extract:

T writes: What would you do if you could travel in time?
I want you to think about that… and tell me. Are we talking about something that is always
true? Ea: no. t: no. so we cannot use the Zero conditional.
Are we talking about a real possibility in the future? Ea: no
T:No. so we need a new conditional.
T sticks the following chart :
Second conditional
If+ subject+ past+, subject+ would+ present
Example:
“If I won the lottery, I would buy a house.”
T asks sts to provide more examples of real situation that probably won´t happen in the
future…
Then. Sts get in pairs and write three answers to the questions from the movie:
What would you do if you could travel in time
Volunteers share their sentences.
Then, sts write a condition for each of the following sentences: ( I will give out this copy)
1. Work with a partner and write down a condition for the sentences below.
1. We would donate 1 million dollars to charity if...
2. We would teleport ourselves to the Sahara desert if...
3. We wouldn't call the police if...
4. We would hide our super power from the other people if...
Sts work in pairs and then, share their answers with the class.

T asks sts to open the book complete pet on page 73, activity 9

When, if, unless
Sts look at the pictures of page 73, ( theirs are in color)
We read the sentences altogether and then t asks” which one do you think will call home?
(It will be easy for them looking at the drawings)
EA: When
T sticks on the board the following:
We use WHEN for things we are sure will happen
For example: when I get home, I will watch tv.
T; we do you think we use if?
We use if for things that may happen:
If I get home before 8, I will watch the film.
T; and the last word is UNLESS,
It can be replaced by EXCEPT.
I will watch the film unless I get home too late
Or
I plan to watch the film unless I get home to late
Sts copy the chart on their folders : 5’
Sts complete activities 2 and 3 from the book, then , we check them orally.

Sts get in pairs and write three answers to the questions from the movie:
  • 6. What would you do if you could travel in time Volunteers share their sentences. Then, sts write a condition for each of the following sentences: ( I will give out this copy) 1. Work with a partner and write down a condition for the sentences below. 1. We would donate 1 million dollars to charity if... 2. We would teleport ourselves to the Sahara desert if... 3. We wouldn't call the police if... 4. We would hide our super power from the other people if... Sts work in pairs and then, share their answers with the class. Activity: 10’ T asks sts to open the book complete pet on page 73, activity 9

  • 8. We read the sentences altogether and then t asks” which one do you think will call home? (It will be easy for them looking at the drawings)
  • 9. EA: When T sticks on the board the following: We use WHEN for things we are sure will happen For example: when I get home, I will watch tv. T; we do you think we use if? We use if for things that may happen: If I get home before 8, I will watch the film. T; and the last word is UNLESS, It can be replaced by EXCEPT. I will watch the film unless I get home too late Or I plan to watch the film unless I get home to late Sts copy the chart on their folders : 5’ Sts complete activities 2 and 3 from the book, then , we check them orally.
