This document summarizes the author's reflections on their experience completing a practicum teaching kindergarten students. They were initially anxious but found the students brought them happiness. The author learned about how kindergarten aged children develop and learn best. Going forward, the author would include more hands-on activities and wants to become a kindergarten English teacher. They realized accepting others' perspectives is important to teach young children.

1. FINAL ASSESSMENT REPORT
After finishing the kindergarten period, writing the institutional report and the group diagnosis, I
will reflect about me and my development as a teacher based on Dimensions of Reflective
Learning by Karen Barnstable (2009).
Thinking back
From my point of view, the original aim for this practicum was to teach learners the contents they
should learn according to the annual planning through the communicative approach and the PPP
method that I chose. However, as it was a totally new world for me, I learnt a lot from them.
I am sure that this experience was really significant for the learners because they seemed very
happy during the four lessons; they always wanted to work and participate even when they did
not remember some English vocabulary. Together we created a great atmosphere to work and
learn.
Before starting with this teaching experience, I needed to read a lot about little children and the
activities and pedagogical aspects that fit best with them according to their development stage,
for example, activities should be very short and different. I thought it would be very difficult but
they passed on their energy and happiness to me, so the lessons that I shared with them were
very pleasant.
It was my first time working in kindergarten and I learnt a lot about children of 4-5 years: what
they are able to do, how they think, how developed their motor skills are, the importance of fun
and body language, emphasising on how enthusiastic they are and how much they can learn
through playing and singing.
Thinking forward
If I had the chance to develop this practice again, I would include more English games and a hands-
on activity as cooking or a lab experience.
This experience influenced my goals quite a lot because now I would love to work as a
kindergarten English teacher as soon as I can. I know it is a great responsibility, but now I am not
afraid of them and their fragility.
Thinking inward
This first practicum period was the one that made me feel understandably anxious because they
were the most little ones, it was quite enriching.
I am very satisfied with my performance during this practice but I know I can do it much better,
now that I have learnt a lot through experience.

2. First I was really scared about the experience, that maybe I was not able to explain them and teach
them in the correct way, during the first lesson they made me feel incredibly comfortable and I
realized I was able to provide them with the tools they needed to learn, designing each time a
better lesson according to their needs, the annual planning and their learning abilities and styles.
Thinking outward
In my opinion, it is important to accept others’ points of view. I believe that this is not an easy
feature to develop so it is really important to encourage acceptance since learners are little
children. There are several little improvements that we could work at class to create a healthy
atmosphere: accepting others’ points of view, their working pace. Accepting others’ pieces of
advise and their help avoid competition at class and foster group work. I believe that as teacher
we have a considerable influence in the society because we are in charge of education. We are
able to generate a remarkable improvement in our society, promoting the importance of values in
our lessons.
