FILM OPENING TITLE
CONVENTIONS
First clip- Citizen Kane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRa3qZ0_4ew
Conventions-
 The conventions met for this opening are that
they show the production logo, the title of
the film and who the book/film is by.
 However it then fails to show cast and other
main producers of the film which goes
against most stereotypes but if this was all
shown it would take the enigma away from
the opening itself
Second clip- The Book of Eli
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPoRj-Fv4HI
Conventions-
 In this film opening of The Book of Eli we see
that the title is clearly shown to make it clear
what the film is called, however it then
doesn’t show us anymore text on screen for
things such as producers, actor and the
director this adds a sense of mystery because
you don’t know who's in it or what to expect
Third Clip- Donnie Darko
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ7Fz3m485s
Conventions-
 The conventions shown In the opening scene
of Donnie Darko meets those such as
production name and company logo. As well
as the directors name and overall title of the
film .
 However as like the other two films this film
does not name main cast in the opening.
Conclusion
 In conclusion I have found that most film
openings of a wide range of genres show
the title of the film as a must or people
might not know what film they are
watching, they also show company and
production logos as brand recognition.
Also they credit the director. Although
they don’t include the main cast in many
film openings which I find strange as I
would have thought this brought in wide
audiences when they see the names
such as Leonardo DiCaprio or Tom
Hanks.
