- 3. Flashback • A scene where the narrative goes back in time and shows a key event which will be made relevant by what is shown in ‘real’ time in the film • For example Wurthering Heights (1939)
- 4. Planning of landscape/establishing shot • Used to set the scene • Inform the audience where the film is taking place • For example: Lord of the Rings (2001)
- 5. Narrations • Easy and effective way of getting the audience involved • Gives background information on the plot and characters • Gives an insight to the audience so that the film makes sense • For example: The Smurfs (2011)
- 6. Action scene • Fast paced opening • Attracts the audience straight away • Automatically shows the genre of the film • For example: Kingsman: Secret service (2015)
- 7. Chase scene • Catches the audiences attention • Involves them as soon as the film starts • For example: Skyfall (2012)
- 8. Production logo’s • The production or distribution logo will appear at the start of most films. • The logo will be adapted to reflect the genre and story line of the film if it has a high budget.
- 9. Title sequence • Shows the cast and production team for films. • Can be used to build suspense and show the film’s genre. • For example: The Wizard of Oz (1939)
- 10. Animation • Creatively portrays the start of the film and visibly shows the difference between the film and the opening sequence. • For example: Juno (2007)
- 11. Compilation of photographs • Shows photographs to portray the theme of the film to the audience. • For example: Blue Valentine (2010)
