What is the difference between Titles
and Credits?
Titles would be shown at the
beginning of the movie/trailer, and
provide the information like the
Name of the movie, production, and
distribution company.
However, the credits would appear at
the beginning and at the end of a
movie, but in a trailer, its found at the
end, the information included would
be the actors, editing productions and
their names, sound companies, or the
singers song and who wrote the song
for the movie (Score music).

What are titles and credits about,
and what do they say?
A heads up to what the story is about: Titles are used to
either explain a persons situation and/ or a brief description
about the character or place the name of a production
company.
Release Date: This is to inform the audience when the
movie is going to show in cinemas.
Social Media: This allows the audience to be able to see if there is
a completion or see the release date of the movie, this also includes
that the audience will be able to keep up to date with the movie
whether it is a interview or a nomination for the movie.
Reviews on films: Mostly on highly rated blockbuster films
or reviewed Independent films which help the movie gain
more audience and increase the earning at the box office,
since the audience is more curious to the fact that why they
got such positive reviews.
Who are the titles/ credits about?
Why?
Titles are used to acknowledge and to present who is acting in the movie. This will suddenly expand the amount of audience to see
the film, either because their favourite actor is in the movie or are just well known.
Also, for titles the name of the production/ distribution
company is likely to be there since they are one of the reasons
why the film was made (budget).
Name of the films that the producer that produced high rated
films and very known films, this could attract the audience in
the way that they know the quality of the past films which
they may be very fond of therefore leading them to just watch
the new film.
Why?
The main purpose of the titles is to inform the public which actors, directors, producers, or words that represent a person or the
movie, chosen wisely will intrigue the audience making them curious of what the movie is about so therefore they will go to watch
the movie when it comes out.
The main reason for the credits it to show would produced what and did what, in movies there is an entire list with the names of
the people that did sound, editing, actors, all in one list. In trailers what presented usually the actors, producer, scriptwriter,
director and with who they are associated with.
When?
Titles and credits usually appear either in the beginning of a trailer around 4-5
times, and at the end either 2 or 3 times. The durations is approximately around 2
to 3 seconds.
However, usually the titles at the beginning are approximately 5-6 seconds apart,
however they do stop around the middle of the trailer, and the final ones at the
end are usually 2-3 seconds apart and appear within the last 10 seconds of the
end of the trailer.
Where are they placed?
Production and distribution companies are at the beginning of the trailer since they funded
for the project and usually they placed the majority of the budget.
By placing a well know actor’s name in the trailer will attract most of the audience, also the
actor by having this will have more status within the film and are the most that earn during
the filming of the film.
In the trailer at the end, the credits have the actors names and the cast (sound, editing,
director, etc…) that have more participation in the movie. This part is where the cast is
acknowledged and usually have the length in a movie around 3-4 minutes depending on
how many people have participated to make the movie possible.
How do they fit in with the narrative
structure and narrative enigmas?
The titles fit in with the narrative structure and enigma since they make the audience feel mysterious and have questions of why the
text was used. The five W’s: Who?, What?, Where?, When?, and Why?.
Titles can also influence on how you think about what's going to happen in the film, in the trailer the titles are beneficial to the
audience they give hints of what’s happening and to understand the plot behind the film.
How do they fit in with the genre/
subgenre?
The horror genre’s titles, usually has a more terrifying and eerie look also its in capital letters which
makes the titles look more unusual therefore making it suitable for the genre.
The thriller genre’s title design is just bold, simple and doesn’t really make the audience be
distracted from the make focus point which is the title.
How? (Style/ font/ colours/
animation etc…)
The text in horror movies tends to have the background with more colours such as black,
red, white etc… either associated with death, possession, or blood. Also in horror movie
titles what is included is the something that gives a hint to the movie.
Whether as movies from different genres have different colours for the background
including in some cases a picture of some part of the movie or as in horror, there is a slight
hint of what the movie is about.
