The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) was created in 1997 to build Canada's capacity for world-class research and technology development. The CFI measures the results and impact of funded projects and institutions at multiple levels, from individual project reports to institution-wide outcome measurement studies. Data is collected at the most granular level and combined to allow for analysis of the research system as a whole. The CFI collaborates with funded institutions and other research funders to reduce reporting burdens and gain a system-level perspective on research performance and outcomes. Challenges include measuring organizational and research performance across individual institutions and systems.
