Operational decision tools for climate change mitigation are being developed using a case study of agricultural systems in Finland. Models are being integrated with measurement data to simulate the impacts of different carbon-smart farming practices on soil carbon sequestration over time. Field experiments compare carbon levels in plots under conventional and modified management. Modeling is used to rescale the results across space and time to inform decisions. The system aims to calibrate models using measurement data and apply the models to forecast the effects of different management scenarios and technologies.
