What is Femtocell?
 A femtocell is a small cellular base station designed for use in
residential or small business environments.
It connects to the service provider’s network via broadband (such as DSL
or cable) and typically supports 2 to 5 mobile phones in a residential
setting.
 A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage inside
of your home.
 A femtocell is sometimes referred to as a “home base station”, “access
point base station”, “3G access point”, “small cellular base station”
and “personal 2G-3G base station.
WORKING
 Provide indoor wireless coverage to mobile phones using broadband
internet connection.
Femto Access Point ( FAP) is considered as a physical layer device which
responsible for connecting to the service provider’s network via broadband
Your cell phone rings
And you answer it
If the phone is in close
Proximity to your home’s
Femtocell
it will automatically
Route its voice tranmission
Through femtocell rather
Than through the nearest cell
Phone tower
essentially the Femtocell
is a low output cellTower
That can route voice data
over Short distance.
BENEFITS
User benefit
quality and data rate
 Potential services
 Lower price
Improved coverage
Operator benifit
Decreased management work
 Decreased transmission cost
 No need to rent sites
 Increased ARPU
ADVANTAGE
 Security
Increase the capacity
Very low cost
 Very less power ( 10-100) mW
Wi Fi like device that works at the same macro
cellular spectrum in the home
High Performance
 High Flexibility
APPLICATION
It is used for getting better network at home
It is used at different organization
• for better network
• for low cost
• for better performance
• For getting high security, etc
CONCLUSION
LTE Femtocell is important for future network improvement
 It is time for the ecosystem to begin developing LTE
Femtocell
 The promising femtocell technology which is being
extensively tested by operators is a step forward in the
way to the Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC).
