INTRODUCTION
“CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW……”
• This is often the case of in homes and buildings where
coverage decreases considerably as soon as you go
indoors.
• So,it has become necessary to work on new technology
that will improve the coverage of both indoor and
outdoor.
• So, Femtocell Technology could be the answer which
people have started to use.
• A small device which is installed in home or office in order to offer better
support to mobile phones.
• These base stations can accommodate up to five cell phones.
• Enhance the cell phone signal that we receive in indoors.
• Range is 10-50 meters.
WHAT IS FEMTOCELL ?
WHY FEMTOCELL ?
Femtocells are very important for the following reasons:
 It can provide indoor coverage for places where macrocells cannot.
Addition of a femtocell will significantly improve the total network capacity
by reusing radio spectrum .
Operators expand network capacity and coverage without much investments on
infrastructure.
 Subscribers get better radio service at low price
ARCHITECTURE
WORKING
HANDOVER OPERATION
Femtocell Handover:
Femtocell do not implement soft handover
 All calls are switching instantly from femtocell & external outdoor
cellular network.
 This is known as hard Handover.
 Where 2G & 3G systems co-exist, it automatically select 3G if it is in
coverage area.
 Optimizing Handover into a Femtocell:
There are 3 approaches
 Adding femtocells to the neighbour lists.
 Adding some smarts into mobile phone.
 Making the femtocell as clever as possible.

DISADVANTAGES
 Difficult to install
 Requires broadband connection
 It does not provide good coverage in outdoors

FUTURE SCOPE
Research is being done on femtocells that work on 4G and 5G
network for business enterprises that can handle more calls
simultaneously.
Since a femtocell hub is primarily used in home and utilizing
internet bridge it makes sense to eventually see it with other home
appliances as well.
CONCLUSION
• Femtocell is as an Access Point Base Station, typically designed for use in
residential or small business environments.
• Femtocells have the potential to provide high quality network access to
indoor users at low cost.
• Improve coverage .
• Provide huge capacity gain.

  • 4. • This is often the case of in homes and buildings where coverage decreases considerably as soon as you go indoors. • So,it has become necessary to work on new technology that will improve the coverage of both indoor and outdoor. • So, Femtocell Technology could be the answer which people have started to use.
  • 5. • A small device which is installed in home or office in order to offer better support to mobile phones. • These base stations can accommodate up to five cell phones. • Enhance the cell phone signal that we receive in indoors. • Range is 10-50 meters. WHAT IS FEMTOCELL ?
  • 6. WHY FEMTOCELL ? Femtocells are very important for the following reasons:  It can provide indoor coverage for places where macrocells cannot. Addition of a femtocell will significantly improve the total network capacity by reusing radio spectrum . Operators expand network capacity and coverage without much investments on infrastructure.  Subscribers get better radio service at low price
  • 9. HANDOVER OPERATION Femtocell Handover: Femtocell do not implement soft handover  All calls are switching instantly from femtocell & external outdoor cellular network.  This is known as hard Handover.  Where 2G & 3G systems co-exist, it automatically select 3G if it is in coverage area.
  • 10.  Optimizing Handover into a Femtocell: There are 3 approaches  Adding femtocells to the neighbour lists.  Adding some smarts into mobile phone.  Making the femtocell as clever as possible.

  • 16. DISADVANTAGES  Difficult to install  Requires broadband connection  It does not provide good coverage in outdoors
  • 18. FUTURE SCOPE Research is being done on femtocells that work on 4G and 5G network for business enterprises that can handle more calls simultaneously. Since a femtocell hub is primarily used in home and utilizing internet bridge it makes sense to eventually see it with other home appliances as well.
  • 19. CONCLUSION • Femtocell is as an Access Point Base Station, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments. • Femtocells have the potential to provide high quality network access to indoor users at low cost. • Improve coverage . • Provide huge capacity gain.
