The Reformed branch of Protestantism originated in France in the early 1500s through the works of French theologians like Jacques Lefèvre d’Étaples and Guillaume Farel. Farel helped establish Reformed churches in French-speaking Switzerland and was influential in Calvin and Calvinism. Reformed teachings spread among small groups in France and the publication of Psalms and other texts in French helped the movement. However, the Reformation in France faced severe persecution from the Catholic church and monarchy, resulting in many deaths during the Wars of Religion between 1562-1598. Today, La Faculté de théologie réformée FAREL seminary in Montreal trains pastors and church workers to spread the gospel
