- Women's empowerment in agriculture is linked to improved nutritional outcomes for children and women in rural Ethiopia. Increasing women's decision making power over credit, income, and workloads saw reductions in child stunting and underweight as well as higher dietary diversity scores for women.
- While women in Ethiopia showed relatively low empowerment levels compared to other countries, interventions to further increase women's agency in agriculture can not only engage them more, but also positively impact nutrition. Empowering women is beneficial and has multidimensional returns including better nutrition.

Accelerometer and EOG Based Wireless Gesture Controlled Robotic ArmIJMER
- This paper deals with the Robotic arm controlled by arm and eye movements, where data
is acquired through the use of accelerometer and EOG amplifier. The hand movements are captured by
the Accelerometer and the eye movements are captured by EOG amplifier. The Robotic arm will pick
and place the object according to the movement of the hand and Robotic arm will move left and right
according to our eye movements. Signals are wirelessly transmitted through RF Encoder and Decoder.
Robotic arm is based on Arduino Duemilanove controller for signal processing, and interfaced with the
Controller serially. This Embedded system will help disabled persons to do work by their own. The
Robotic arm can be used to pick and place hazardous objects.

Large amount of data have been stored and manipulated using various database
technologies. Processing all the attributes for the particular means is the difficult task. To avoid such
difficulties, feature selection process is processed.In this paper,we are collect a eight various benchmark
datasets from UCI repository.Feature selection process is carried out using fuzzy entropy based
relevance measure algorithm and follows three selection strategies like Mean selection strategy,Half
selection strategy and Neural network for threshold selection strategy. After the features are selected,
they are evaluated using Radial Basis Function (RBF) network,Stacking,Bagging,AdaBoostM1 and Antminer
classification methodologies.The test results depicts that Neural network for threshold selection
strategy works well in selecting features and Ant-miner methodology works best in bringing out better
accuracy with selected feature than processing with original dataset.The obtained result of this
experiment shows that clearly the Ant-miner is superiority than other classifiers.Thus, this proposed Antminer
algorithm could be a more suitable method for producing good results with fewer features than
the original datasets.

Preliminary results: Malawi Zero Hunger and Malnutrition Strategic ReviewIFPRIMaSSP
This presentation shared preliminary findings from the Malawi Zero Hunger and Malnutrition Strategic Review (ZHMSR), which is a government-led, independent, analytical, and consultative exercise to identify the key challenges Malawi faces in achieving the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 2), to "end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture" by 2030.
The results were presented at the Lilongwe office of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) by Dr. Grace Kumchulesi, from the ZHMSR research team. The seminar is part of IFPRI Malawi's Brown Bag Research Seminar series, which allows for presentation of early research results for discussion and feedback.

• This research aims at looking into the relationship between
women’s empowerment and nutritional outcomes of both women
and children in the rural Ethiopia context
• Using a recently developed measure of women empowerment
called Women Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI).

• Data from a baseline survey conducted for the evaluation of the FtF
program in Ethiopia, the US government global hunger and food
security initiative.
• Collected from 5 regions of the country and comprises of 7,056
households from 84 woredas (districts).
• Data collection took place in June 2013.
• The questionnaire used for the survey includes modules on
• basic demographic information; household consumption expenditure;
Women empowerment indicators; women dietary diversity and
anthropometry; child anthropometry and infant and young child
feeding; employment, agricultural productivity and input use; and
other relevant information.
7. Methodology – Women’s Empowerment in Agricultural
Index (WEAI)
• The Women Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) is used to
measure women’s empowerment.
• The index was developed by researchers at USAID, IFPRI, and the
Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI)
• To track the change in women’s empowerment levels that occurs as a
direct or indirect result of interventions under Feed the Future, the
U.S. government’s global hunger and food security initiative.
• Measures the empowerment, agency and inclusion of women in the
agricultural sector.
8. Methodology – Women’s Empowerment in Agricultural
Index (WEAI)
•Composed of two sub-indexes: the Five Domains of Empowerment sub-index
(5DE) and the Gender Parity sub-Index (GPI)
•Five Domains of Empowerment (5DE) measures the empowerment of women
in five areas (90 percent of the total WEAI); and
•The Gender Parity Index (GPI) measures the average level of equality in
empowerment of men and women within the household (10 percent of the
total WEAI).

Malapit et al, 2013)
• Multivariate regression method
• Likely that women’s empowerment within the household might be affected by
the same factors affecting child outcomes and dietary diversity
• Possible endogeneity of the empowerment measure - instrumental variables (IV)
technique.
• Percentage of women who are members of women only groups in the
community (village level empowerment proxy)
• Number of informal credit sources in the village as instruments for all of the
empowerment indicators.
• The cluster-level distance to markets- reflect the intensity of a woman’s work
burden at home, the woman’s degree of isolation within the community
11. Descriptive Results
• How empowered are Ethiopian women in Agriculture?
• The female respondents’ individual-level 5DE profile or score (weighted
average of the 10 indicators)
• The average 5DE score is 0.64
A lower level of empowerment in agriculture for Ethiopian women
compared with women in Bangladesh (0.75), Guatemala (0.69) and
Uganda (0.79).
• The findings from the WEAI diagnostics are used to identify the focus of
analysis.
• Contribution of each of the five domains to disempowerment
