FALSE CEILING
3
• False ceilings are often secondary ceilings that are hung below
the main ceiling with the help of suspension cords or struts.
• These ceilings are crafted from a wide range of materials such
as POP (plaster of Paris), gypsum board, asbestos sheets,
particle board, aluminium panel, wood etc. They are also
known as dropped ceiling or suspended ceiling.
• These ceilings are generally used for aesthetic purposes,
they are also good for thermal insulation and sound
absorption.

PURPOSE OF FALSE CEILING:
•The room interior is enhanced.
•Electrical cables and wires are concealed
•If the superstructure ceiling is too high, a false ceiling
is used to maintain the height of the roof.
•It also provides sound and thermal insulation.
•It is vastly used for air conditioning.

POP FALSE CEILING
6
• The POP full form is plaster of Paris and it is nothing but gypsum. POP is
one of the popular false ceiling materials used to design the ceiling area.
This material is available in powder form in the market which can be
used to make a paste and applied on wooden board and fiberboard with
desired shape and design.
• Plaster of Paris is regarded as any type of plaster containing calcined
gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate), sand and water. When these
ingredients are combined, they result in the formation of a tough, dry
product; however, plaster of Paris can be sanded to achieve a variety of
looks.

• POP material is highly durable and provides good insulation again cold and heat
in the room. The false ceiling made from POP looks very appealing and attractive
after proper lighting and paintwork.
PROS:
• POP ceiling is 20-30% cheaper compare to Gypsum board ceiling.
• It is highly durable material with minimum wear and tear during life period.
• They can be easily molded in any shape.
CONS:
• POP material need high skill to use and apply to ceiling to give desired shape and
design
• The extra quantity of POP is required to prepare because there is not possible to
calculate exact quantity.
• It created messy place where it is used.
