Influence Of Cognitive Development On Gender Identity
Abstract
The influence of cognitive development to a modern comprehension of gender identity is examined.
Cognitive theories in the context of human development are assessed and examples are presented to
provide empirical support. These theories surround early gender development with aspects
concentrated specifically during Middle Childhood to illustrate how gender identity is perceived in
children ages 5 11. The process of normal and abnormal gender identity in Middle Childhood are both
examined. The paper concludes with implications for future research.
Introduction to Gender Identity
The phenomenon of gender identity dates back as early as the 1950 s when Psychologists began
examining gender development in children. In 1958, the UCLA Medical Center created the Gender
Identity Research Project to study intersex and its effects on gender development and identity. John
Hopkins Medical School s Gender Identity Clinic was created in 1965 for elaborative gender research,
suggesting that gender identity is relatively fluid up to a certain age and subject to continuous
negotiation (Haraway, 1991). With countless research and studies conducted on this unique topic in
human development, various cognitive theories have emerged to justify the evolution of gender
identity. In order to further examine gender identity, it is critical to distinguish gender identity from
societal terms that do not properly define its true semantic. Gender Identity is

Reflection Paper On Baptismism
I begin preparation about two weeks prior to sermon date of September 19. Using the 2017 Official
United Methodist Program Calendar I found that I had originally chosen to continue the Romans
theme as in my past three weeks, so going off lectionary, with Romans 14:13 23. But looking ahead I
decided to combine that on September 17th so I could choose Psalm 78:1 7 (lectionary) instead. This
spoke to me as a way to preach about baptism. Since my pre planning in August, a family has decided
to have their 18 month old baptized on September 24.
I read the scripture three times throughout the day and initially noticed at the very beginning the
mention of telling parables and uttering hidden meanings. This intrigued me. Also the mention of the
word children several times seems to relate to the baptism well.
A few days later I reread the scripture and the word generation jumped out at me as well as put their
trust in God and would not forget . How has the understanding of baptism changed since it began, or
even since my baptism or my children s baptisms? I looked at my Worship Annual for the week of
September 24 to see if any of the planning resources spoke to Psalm 78 or related it to baptism. It
referred to children a couple of times but not baptism in any way.
Back to what about hidden truths or meanings spoken in parables? Why do we call baptism a
sacrament? What is sacred? Is sacred, things that have hidden meanings or layers like an onion, to

Examples Of Editing In Run Lola Run
The 1998 German film Run Lola Run interestingly told three separate narratives of the same story and
characters. Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight temporal or
behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different outcomes for
each of the separate realities. The film followed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire one hundred
thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The same story was told
three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters timelines that
drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the film was able to
jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the next. The film also
had a fast rhythm that captured the frantic nature and peril of Lola and Manni s situation, with
innovative editing techniques such as showing the two shots of Manni and Lola side by side.
Altogether, the transitions were effective in telling the story with a unique, and clear sequencing
pattern that made sense and contributed to the thrilling atmosphere of the film. Editing determines the
duration of a shot and Run Lola Run illustrated several types of editing including freeze frames, jump
cuts, and dissolve cuts that allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Towards the end of the first two narratives, a shot of Lola running and yelling for Manni was spliced
on the screen next to a shot of Manni walking away, not hearing Lola. This editing proved profound
because it illustrated how close Lola was to stopping Manni, but how she was never close enough. The
editing exemplified this through the proximity of the shots being directly next to each other, yet still
being separate. The splicing of the scenes proved an innovative technique of editing in Run Lola

My Experience With Severe Anxiety
When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am amazed at how far I have
come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in college when she had me, and my father
worked two jobs to support the family. They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good
and comfortable life. They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many
responsibilities, because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that. They
instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough your challenges in life are.
This value is very important to me, and I believe that I would not be where I am today if I didn t stay
true to this value. This value has been especially important when I have had to deal with severe
anxiety.
I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during my freshman
year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to the point where I could not
even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend school, but these attempts would often end
with me having a severe panic attack. This constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of
depression. All of these factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would
do all my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an hour each day.
This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my anxiety. I met with a therapist

Heroes As Role Models
Heroes are people with courage and perseverance, have made a significant impact in people s lives,
and can be looked up to as role models. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are
perfect examples of heroes because they stood up to the racism and sexism they received working at
NASA, and did not allow it to stop them from being the best mathematicians and scientists that they
could be. Katherine Johnson, probably the most well known of the three women, was born on 26
August, 1918, in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia. As a young girl, her absolute curiosity and
brilliance in maths put her ahead several grades, and by the age of thirteen, she was attending high
school. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in university, and graduated as the first African American
to earn a PhD in maths. A NASA website page states, Katherine graduated with highest honors in 1937
and took a job teaching at a black public school in Virginia (Loff). She was hired for NASA, originally
called NACA, in June 1953 and was assigned a project almost immediately. In 1958, NACA became
NASA, and four years later, Katherine began working on satellite calculations to prepare for the first
American man into space. Katherine became well known among other scientists, and before John
Glenn took off into space, he said, If she [Katherine] says they re [the calculations are] good, then I m
ready to go. Katherine retired from NASA in 1986 and was awarded with the Presidential Medal of

Who Is Charles Sanders Pierce s The Fixation Of Belief
This essay will explain the title The Fixation of Belief, by Charles Sanders Pierce. He argues that the
method of science is superior to all other methods, due to its ability to establish what is true and what
is not true in an objective manner. He argues that since experience of the method has not led us to
doubt it, the method of science will necessarily lead us to one true conclusion.
Peirce regarded logic as an instrument for drawing conclusions from premises. Unlike contemporary
logicians, Peirce included in his conception of logic what we would now call epistemological
concerns. In particular, he examined the origins of the premises of logical arguments. In his view,
progress has been made in securing better starting points for our reasoning. In Peirce s view, the
development of scientific method was largely a development of our ... Show more content on

Logic studies movements in thought. Also, logic presupposes that there is a transition from a state of
unbelief to a state of belief. The relevant state of unbelief is one of doubt, which is active
consideration of the truth of a matter without commitment as to whether it is true or false. No other
state of belief would motivate the use of inference. We would like to be able to identify the principles
that are implied by the very idea of the passage from doubt to belief. These would be the most
essential principles of logic.
Doubts that we have, which give rise to inferences, are manifested through the asking of questions. On
the other hand, when we make a pronouncement, we are expressing a belief. Doubt and belief give
rise to very different feelings. Doubt is something we try to avoid, because it makes us uneasy and
restless. Belief, on the other hand, gives rise to satisfaction. We therefore cling tenaciously to them.
This is important because it is beliefs alone that guide our desires and shape our actions. Doubt
renders us indecisive and

Service Learning Reflection
According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs in
experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more universities
are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service learning is civic
responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities as a citizen. As will
be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to a student, but also to
the community members
I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons
is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which I think
millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can teach some
people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their civic
responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service
learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to
reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives. (p. 1
2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light. My
understanding is that the authors believe by students reflecting on their interactions with the
community, it can help further their

A Relationship Between Achievement Motivation And...
2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Considering the desire of every nation to industrialize in this 21st
century achievement motivation becomes a critical variable. In a bid to achieve this feat, it is therefore
necessary to examine through this research work if there exist a relationship between achievement
motivation and industrial development. A viable work force is germane in the industrial sector of a
country to stimulate industrial growth and prosperity. But the backwardness in Nigerian today is a
concern to the government of the day and the citizenry. Therefore, this work deemed it imperative to
X ray, if there could be an impact of an individual intrinsic achievement motivation on
industrialization. Owing to the fact that high productivity is the goal every individual and
organizations so wished to attain. This has not easily come by. It is therefore the onus of this research
work to unearth if there is a relationship between low productivity in our industries and achievement
motivation on the part of the individual workers. There is a significant decline in the standard of living
of the people, based on available evidence. Despite government effort at raising the standard of living
of the people through industrialization all the efforts have proved abortive, hence the need for this
research. It is therefore crucial to unravel through this research work if there is a relationship between
the declining standard of living and lack of the spirit of hard work among the Nigerian

China And Japan During The 19th And 20th Century
China and Japan in the 19th and 20th Century China and Japan had fallen on hard times leading up to
the 19th and 20th Century. Both China and Japan reigned as perhaps the two most successful countries
in east Asia for most of their storied histories. China had been the center of trade between the west and
east for hundreds of years, and economically was as wealthy as one could imagine. Japan, residing on
an island off the coast of Korea, was traditionally rather isolated through its rule by Shoguns and
Samurai. However, several factors led to their eventual downfalls before they could recover. For
China, a corrupt Qing rule, unbalanced trade relations with the west, and a country wide opium crisis
had set China back tremendously. Japan s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would lead to an unending series of defeats, including the British in 1942, the French and British
jointly between 1856 and 1860, and by the French again in 1864, and the Japanese in 1894 (Spence
35). Revolutionary efforts led by men like Kang Youwei and Sun Yat Sen would eventually overthrow
the Qing Dynasty. Even after several failed uprisings, Sun Yat Sen was still able to maintain a, steady
stream of support of new followers, and he was always able to get enough funds from overseas
Chinese, (Spence 110 111). On the first of January, 1911, Sun Yat Sen and his fellow revolutionaries
would found the Republic of China (Spence 135). In 1945, after emerging victorious in a conflict with
Japan, China s Nationalist and Communist Parties would enter into a civil war, with Mao Zedong and
the communists winning the conflict and founding the People s Republic of China in 1949 (Spence
359). China under Mao would be subjected to killings and acts of propaganda meant to control a
population being molded for communism. Mao s legacy is a strange one. Even though he did help give
many Chinese more rights than ever before, his willingness to keep the population under control
would create a very controversial China to say the least (Spence 387). Japan s political structure
during the 19th and 20th Century would shift dramatically just as China s did. After hundreds of years
of rule by a Tokugawa feudal system, Japan was isolated and there was much division within the

The Similarities And Differences Of Fairy Folk Tales
Comparative Analysis Essay
Fairy Folk Tales are the most popular types of literature. The tale is an orally transmitted tradition by
generations through the time; some events are changed to fit reality and society. Folk fairy tales deal
with the dualism of the good and the evil. They are basing on a conflict between the good and the evil
forces. The conclusion comes from aspirations of the human desire to achieve the justices. There are
no known authors and sources for ancient s literature. We have many versions of the story; they are
credited by many authors later. Each tale is very like some other culture s tale. Each culture has own
tales, but all the tales are similarities and differences in some points. This essay will compare between
two fairy tales, Cinderella and In the Land of Small Dragon . The tale of Cinderella is a French tale. It
is credited by Charles Perrault; it is published in 1697. The in the Land of Small Dragon is a
Vietnamese folktale; it is told by Dang Manh Kha in 1979.
The tale works to improve the man s image, as a fair and a wise father; or a prince who is the savior of
hopeless girl. The hopeless girl expresses a kind and a simple girl; otherwise, the woman mirrors a
wicked, jealous, and ugly character. That is clear in these two fairy tales. While Cinderella and Tam
were little kids, they lost their mothers. At this point, each of them her suffering and the painful
journey begins. Cinderella lives in her father s house with a stepmother and

The Bad Luck Kennedys Essay
The Kennedy family, the quintessential all American family, filled with some of the country s best and
brightest. That special family contains a soldier, a few senators, and even a president, the famous John
Franklin Kennedy. However, some of us have probably heard about the bad luck this family seems to

cursed, those ghastly curses ranging from Rosemary Kennedy s misdiagnosis and rather unfortunate
botched lobotomy, to John F. Kennedy s assassination. It s sad to see a well respected family go

The Problem Of Gender Sexism
Nowadays, there are still a lot of powerless groups exist in this world, such as the group of women.
The problem of gender sexism exists from the beginning of the history and still continues in today s
society. Women are still inferior to men in my country, whether from family and job status, social
position and political views, women are treated unequal and disrespectful, therefore, this problem
needs more abundant attention. Sexism, like many forms of prejudice, only survives in a traditional
environments and this is how it continues in China from All China Women s Federation s website, yet
this problem is still happening in China, but there must be a way to solve it.
Since ancient times, people have thought that men should give priority to their jobs and the society
and women should take family as the core. As a result, men and women are created and have different
definitions. Gender is actually made by the society and its meaning is also created by the society. I do
not know such a definition is good or bad. The good one is that distinction between men and women
makes the society get balanced development. Women and other family members take care of the
family and men make more contributions to the family and society. But the weakness is that some
feudal and extreme cultures would develop the distinction of gender into discrimination. In many
developing countries, women are considered to be lower than men. The distinction of gender can exist,
but it should exist

Salazar very frequently used Fatima as his rationale of why such a government system was needed in
Portugal. In 1933 he made it clear that Catholicism was the religion of the Portuguese Nation.
However devout he claimed to be, he never passed any powerful roles to the actual Catholic Church
but its influence was prevalent throughout Portugal. Most of the population considered itself catholic
and attended Mass. However Salazar still had control and did not delay in even punishing members of
the Church. Soon in the 1950s and 60s it became very clear to Salazar that he cannot justify his
governmental rule with the Catholic faith especially after the Second Vatican Council, many
documents were published such as the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World and
also A Declaration on Religious Freedom. These clearly put out the message that the church does not
support any specific regime that doesn t guarantee and protect human rights and religious freedom.

Aristophanes Speech On Love And Happiness
The philosopher I have chosen for this assignment is Plato, in Symposium. Based on the readings of
The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness is the
search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the quest to
becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some claim to be
considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed partnership embrace in
sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully understand Aristophanes
concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details of the story in The Speech of
Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth of a story long ago where there
were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which were twice what they humans are
now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though the gods hated these beings, they
knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices. So, in replace Zeus decided to cut
the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side, including their genitals. Because the
humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they constantly had urges to find their other half to
make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes theory of longing for one another. When found by
another half, the couple would embrace in sexual activity and not want anything else,

Benefits Of A Unified Salary Schedule
There are many advantages and disadvantages to a single, unified salary schedule. These types of
salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary amounts
for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and analysis of the
salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister RV School District s,
only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn a raise in pay for the next
year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay increases also are earned by
moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate credit completed toward an
advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree. Hollister RV School District s
certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of exceptionality, highlighting what is
important to the District. However, there are also areas to be improved, including recruitment and
retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is
that the vertical steps carry the same monetary value as the horizontal columns with the exception of
completing a Master s degree or a Specialist degree. This salary schedule indicates an equal value is

The Fukushima Nuclear Facility Disaster
The Fukushima nuclear facility disaster following the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami has
motivated the need to design and build a small, remotely controlled repair device. The purpose of the
device is to navigate using remote control to a specified location, and complete a series of tasks. This
will protect the human operators from absorbing a high dose of radioactive contamination. This
project provides a platform for student groups to present their solutions to a range of design problems
such as remotely completing everyday tasks as well as solutions for propulsion, sensing, and
navigation. Each team is required to design construct, and operate a prototype device meeting the
requirements of annually determined problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after brainstorming together, we finally came up with one design that was easy to succeed
and had the capacity to do all the five tasks very fast and easily, which are the magnets that we are
using today. Furthermore, in the engineering process we used, we needed to define the main problem
and test some designs to get the right one. Lastly, we improved our final design by making it bigger.
For the first design, we went to Walmart and we looked for a remote controlled jeep that had some
good specifications, but when we saw a lot of RC car options we did not know which one was the
best, so we decided to buy one and try it. We found an RC jeep cost us $12.57, which was not much.
We made small talk about the size, the tires, the quality, and the way it was combined together. After
that, we bought the jeep and started to combine the material we had for the testing together.
Unfortunately, the car didn t work because it was bigger than the pipe. We started an argument about
how we could make it fit in the pipe, until finally we decided to refund the money and started thinking
about using a different device. For the second design, after the first device failed the test we did not
give up. We went to Walmart for the second time and looked for a smaller car. We found a lot of
different cars, but all the cars did not look like they had very good quality and none looked very fast.
We found an RC sports car

American Progression
Since the beginning of time people have been on an endless journey for Progress . But what does
progress really mean? When I hear the word progress, I think of an improvement of a specific
condition. Progress is advancing over a period of time and can have positive or negative effects of
some sort. One significant event that led to great progress in human history was the discovery of
America. The founding of America led to progress through the introduction of New World plants to
the Old World, transmission of various diseases and colonization. The Columbian Exchange of crops
between the Old World and the New World is significant in the progression of human history. This
event is important because the introduction of the native New World plants eventually changed the
economy of the entire world. Native New World plants such as tobacco, maize, beans, tomatoes, and
especially the lowly potato eventually revolutionized the international economy as well as the
European diet, feeding the rapid population growth of the Old World (Kennedy and Cohen 14; Ch. 1).
Many of the crops grown around the world today originated in the Americas. New World foodstuff
also helped Africa overcome chronic food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The transmission of these diseases resulted in progression of human history because it increased
awareness, knowledge and eventually cures for some. However, this progression did not come without
some downfalls. The disease introduced to the New World caused the Indians to die in droves but it
also allowed new cultures to be formed. Disease took more than human life; it extinguished entire
cultures and occasionally helped shape new ones (Kennedy and Cohen 30; Ch.2). The introduction of
Syphilis to the Old World also aided in progression because now we have knowledge about the disease
and today syphilis is nonfatal and can be treated with

Ambrose Bierces’An Occurence At Owl Creek Bridge Essay
Ambrose Bierces Story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Ambrose Bierces story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge tells the story of a confederate
secessionist, who is being hanged by Union troops. At the time of the hanging, the soldiers drop him
from the bridge. Luckily, just as he falls the rope snaps and the man dives into the sluggish stream . He
miraculously takes off his ropes and swims away. When he reaches the bank of the creek, he runs for
what seems like forever. He finally reaches home, where his family is waiting so anxiously for him.
However, Bierce chooses to surround this intriguing tell with elements that carry visual, concrete, and
intangible symbolism. The symbolic elements of An Occurrence at Owl Creek ... Show more content

Bierce chooses to beginning this captivating tell at a bridge. He writes, A man stood upon a railroad
bridge in Northern Alabama, looking down into the swift water... He then choose to conclude this tell
at the same bridge. He writes, Peyton Fahrquar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently
from side to side beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek Bridge. With so much focus on this element,
the bridge, the reader must realize that it offers more than just a setting. It is the symbolic connection
between reality and illusion, life and death.
First, it is the symbolic connection between reality and illusion. Throughout the course of the story,
Peyton Fahrquars perception of reality is completely warped. He believes that he miraculously loosed
his ropes, eluded the Union troop, and escaped home. This in reality is absolutely impossible. The
bridge (a solid structure, with no escape route available) allows the reader to maintain a sense of
reality while still being able to grasp Fahrquars illusion. Secondly, the bridge is the symbolic
connection between life and death. Most people view death as a crossing over and beyond death is a
better life . Now taking that ideology in context with the story, Peyton Fahrquar wanted to burn down
the bridge to stop the Union Army from advancing and gaining access to the Confederate lands. The
Union Army, who symbolically represents death, and the Confederate Army, who symbolically
represents life,

one satellite over the country at all times (NASA). The orbit allows the satellites to broadcast from
directly overhead the continental United States allowing for less interference from tall buildings and
trees. This does not, however, protect Sirius from competition. According to Yahoo Sirius s direct
competitors include Clear Channel Communications Inc., Cumulus Broadcasting Inc., and XM
Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. with XM being the only satellite radio provider. The others are
traditional frequency modulation (FM) and amplitude modulation (AM) over the air broadcasters.
Sirius relies on a better understanding of current market trends to stay ahead of it competitors. The
current market trends seem to favor the trend of having exclusive content and giving well know

The 1920 S
The 1920 s were mainly known for the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance, Prohibition, and the
generation where women were guaranteed the right to vote. The 1920 s has been argued to be either
very conservative or liberal, but it can go either way. Although the 1920 s are conservative because of
economic reasons involving immigration, the 1920 s are liberally revolutionary because of cultural
changes with women and religious changes from the Scopes Trial. Granted, the 1920 s were majorly
conservative in their economics by being constructive on immigration policies. Nativism still existed
because people were still scared that their jobs would be taken away by immigrants, which were found
unfair to a majority of Americans. In 1921, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another economic change other than immigration in the 1920 s was the Eighteenth amendment which
banned alcohol to be sold, manufactured, or transported in the United States. This was extremely
liberal because it had never happened in the United States before and it was against the traditional
ways of the American life. Prohibition is backed by conservatism and political parties that are also
conservative, such as the Ku Klux Klan. Though Prohibition laws reflected a turning point in the
United States which was accepted by a large sum of people except the conservatives. The 20 s ended
up or attempted killing off old traditional stereotypes and began to create a more exceptional thought.
Certainly, the 1920 s were liberally revolutionary in their culture in relation to women. The 20 s saw
women develop in society and politically; starting with the Nineteenth Amendment which gave
women the right to vote. Afterward, a lifestyle called the new woman was created that changed
women s appearance and attitude. These new women were labeled flappers by the upper class women,
and rejected traditional values of women by exposing their legs, arms, cutting their hair in short bobs,
wearing makeup, smoking and drinking publically. An article published by New York Times states that,

Benefit Of Homework
Homework is often seen as a useful study tool, however it can cause more problems than solve them.
Homework adds to the already harrowing task of keeping up with grades, you have to worry about
completing classwork as well as studying for upcoming tests or projects for six classes, even seven, if
you have a 0 period. Homework adds stress, prevents students from pursuing their interests, can cause
them not to give their full attention to everything they should, makes keeping up with a social life and
having the interactions humans need impossible, all of which can add up to depression (which is
something many teens are already prone to). We go to school seven hours a day, sit in classrooms,
listening and doing work and often times worrying about everything we have to do after. Seven hours
is a lot to do everything, but especially paper work and research, so having to go home and have two
to four more hours of that to look forward to... Is not particularly comforting. All this extra work is
usually chalked up to be something that will help a student learn the topic, but if teachers are doing
their jobs to get the important points across and time is being used well in class, than it should not be
necessary. In an absence of homework students can instead spend the time usually wasted on often
rushed, under quality work, studying the way that best suits them, or participating in an activity that
will ease their stress from the long tiring days of school. I m just like

The Psychology Of Self Esteem
Furthermore, the effects of these awards go far beyond sports and contests. Being awarded at such a
young age for just about anything is highly misleading of how the real world works. Many young
Americans have developed a sense of entitlement, expecting to gain more in return for less effort. Per
a study done by Bernard Goldberg approximately one out of every three college students believes they
deserve a B just for attending their courses. This sense of privilege is an almost contagious mind set
that has only gotten worse. But many ask how exactly the idea that one should be rewarded for almost
anything began?
The self esteem movement was developed in 1969 after Nathaniel Branden wrote The Psychology of
Self Esteem. The idea Branden proposed was that self esteem is essential to overall success in life.
This caused many parents to believe that, if they could start by increasing their children s self esteem
they would become more successful in the future. This brought up ideas intended to help children gain
more confidence and self worth. For example, all children should receive participation awards so that
no child would feel bad for not winning. Consequently, studies have found that children s self image
may be negatively impacted by the ideas behind participation trophies and awards. Yet, parents still
encourage rewards be given to all children.
There seem to be two obvious reasons why parents want their children to receive trophies. One, they
are terrified of how

Essay On Delirium
Delirium is a condition that is often treated by identifying and correcting the underlying etiology
(Townsend Morgan, 2017). This includes the healthcare team addressing if the patient was hypoxic,
took certain medications, or had a fluid and electrolyte imbalance that lead to the delirium (Townsend
Morgan, 2017). Medical treatment modalities for delirium involve select pharmacological therapy for
specific symptoms, but are not recommended (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Common pharmacological
interventions include reducing symptoms of psychosis or substance withdrawal (Townsend Morgan,
2017). Physicians prescribe anti psychotics such as Haloperidol at a low dose to reduce the agitation
associated with delirium (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Other medical treatment modalities for delirium
include the use of anxiolytic agents such as Benzodiazepines to reduce the occurrence of delirium
associated with substance withdrawal (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Lastly, as the delirious client
becomes increasingly confused and aggressive, other mechanical or chemical restraints may be

Remaining with the client will aid in orientating them to their surroundings and reduce the anxiety

essential nursing intervention for a delirious patient (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Often, delirium can

Leadership Development Of Team Captains
This paper is an academic critique of the article by Christian Grandzol, Susan Perlis, and Lois Draina
(2010) entitled, Leadership development of team captains in collegiate athletics. Grandzol, Perlis, and
Draina were attempting to determine if participating in collegiate athletics was associated with
leadership development. The authors looked at five leadership practices that were analyzed through
the use of the Student Leadership Practice Inventory developed by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
The author s research question was Are leadership practices of (A) model the way, (B) inspire a shared
vision, (C) challenge the process, (D) enable others to act, and (E) Encouraging the heart related to
athletic participation and leadership position? (Grandzol, Perlis, Draina, 2010, p. 405). Although the
Grandzol et al were looking at collegiate athletes in their study, they were trying to answer the age old
question; are leaders born or are they developed?
Review of Literature
Leadership has many definitions and has been described by many authors, political leaders, and
common men by different means. The great Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi, once said;
Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And
that s the price we ll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal. The literature that the authors
reviewed justifies the argument that leaders are developed. Grandzol et al did not find much literature

How Did Netflix Pursue Movie Studios
Netflix could pursue movie studios if it can build up a higher number of customers who are watching
their exclusive shows. The con to a movie studio is the fact that there will be various expenses which
could result in removing part of their customers who enjoy the low 7.99 rate. Therefore Netflix would
become something that it is trying to compete against which is the bigger cable providers. An avenue
that Netflix is best suited for is creating original shows, and movies such as House of Cards. For
Netflix to take the next step it has to create at least one more show that has a national audience such as
the type of numbers that Breaking Bad, or Walking Dead has. This would pave the way for them to

Who Is Truly Evil In Lord Of The Flies
For centuries, philosophers have debated the question of whether man is truly evil. William Golding
strikes this question in his highly realistic novel, Lord of The Flies. The story is set in a tropical island
during World War 2 when a plane is shot down holding British schoolboys. No adults survive and they
are left to govern themselves until they are rescued. Through Jack, Golding demonstrates what will
happen to man when law and order are taken away, and that ultimately man will choose safe gray over
civility. In the beginning, Jack shows up as head boy of the choir. Jack thinks he should lead the boys
on the island because he already leads his choir. I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and
head boy, (Golding 22). This is the first time we see Jack s wanting of power. Jack has led before and
sees how much power and strength comes with it. This makes him want more, rather than having a
civil vote, and choose who the leader should be. He becomes power hungry and always wants more.
This, Golding proves that man will choose savagery over order and decorum. ... Show more content

Jack is so power hungry, he does not like it when people try to put him in his place. When they do try
to bring Jack down to his place, Jack automatically responds with violence. In this way, Golding
proves that Jack had to give up things to feed his need for

together we are maintaining a balance of power amongst nations. There were many Soviet Union
leaders but one that really stood out was Mikhail Gorbachev, an energetic 54 year old, Andropov s

developed a mutual relationship that had its advantages. In December 1988, at the very end of Reagan
s presidency, Gorbachev announced in an address to the United Nations in Washington that he would
unilaterally reduce Soviet military forces in Eastern Europe by 500,000 soldiers and 10,000 tanks over
the next two years. Reagans association with Mikhail Gorbachev made it less demanding for both the
Soviet Union and the United States to put a conclusion to the Cold war. Regan endeavored getting on

Toronto Police s Budget Cuts

The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze hiring for three
years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in many officers (Fox, 2017). The

budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a product of the budget, the Toronto Police Service has hit the 1
billion mark as of this year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past (Powell, 2016). The Toronto

The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one
point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the
concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will
only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the
French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had
extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French
influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French
or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or
British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of
Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a

  • 2. Influence Of Cognitive Development On Gender Identity Abstract The influence of cognitive development to a modern comprehension of gender identity is examined. Cognitive theories in the context of human development are assessed and examples are presented to provide empirical support. These theories surround early gender development with aspects concentrated specifically during Middle Childhood to illustrate how gender identity is perceived in children ages 5 11. The process of normal and abnormal gender identity in Middle Childhood are both examined. The paper concludes with implications for future research. Introduction to Gender Identity The phenomenon of gender identity dates back as early as the 1950 s when Psychologists began examining gender development in children. In 1958, the UCLA Medical Center created the Gender Identity Research Project to study intersex and its effects on gender development and identity. John Hopkins Medical School s Gender Identity Clinic was created in 1965 for elaborative gender research, suggesting that gender identity is relatively fluid up to a certain age and subject to continuous negotiation (Haraway, 1991). With countless research and studies conducted on this unique topic in human development, various cognitive theories have emerged to justify the evolution of gender identity. In order to further examine gender identity, it is critical to distinguish gender identity from societal terms that do not properly define its true semantic. Gender Identity is ... • 5. Reflection Paper On Baptismism I begin preparation about two weeks prior to sermon date of September 19. Using the 2017 Official United Methodist Program Calendar I found that I had originally chosen to continue the Romans theme as in my past three weeks, so going off lectionary, with Romans 14:13 23. But looking ahead I decided to combine that on September 17th so I could choose Psalm 78:1 7 (lectionary) instead. This spoke to me as a way to preach about baptism. Since my pre planning in August, a family has decided to have their 18 month old baptized on September 24. I read the scripture three times throughout the day and initially noticed at the very beginning the mention of telling parables and uttering hidden meanings. This intrigued me. Also the mention of the word children several times seems to relate to the baptism well. A few days later I reread the scripture and the word generation jumped out at me as well as put their trust in God and would not forget . How has the understanding of baptism changed since it began, or even since my baptism or my children s baptisms? I looked at my Worship Annual for the week of September 24 to see if any of the planning resources spoke to Psalm 78 or related it to baptism. It referred to children a couple of times but not baptism in any way. Back to what about hidden truths or meanings spoken in parables? Why do we call baptism a sacrament? What is sacred? Is sacred, things that have hidden meanings or layers like an onion, to reveal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of Editing In Run Lola Run The 1998 German film Run Lola Run interestingly told three separate narratives of the same story and characters. Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight temporal or behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different outcomes for each of the separate realities. The film followed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire one hundred thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The same story was told three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters timelines that drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the film was able to jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the next. The film also had a fast rhythm that captured the frantic nature and peril of Lola and Manni s situation, with innovative editing techniques such as showing the two shots of Manni and Lola side by side. Altogether, the transitions were effective in telling the story with a unique, and clear sequencing pattern that made sense and contributed to the thrilling atmosphere of the film. Towards the end of the first two narratives, a shot of Lola running and yelling for Manni was spliced on the screen next to a shot of Manni walking away, not hearing Lola. This editing proved profound because it illustrated how close Lola was to stopping Manni, but how she was never close enough. The editing exemplified this through the proximity of the shots being directly next to each other, yet still being separate. • 7. My Experience With Severe Anxiety When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am amazed at how far I have come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in college when she had me, and my father worked two jobs to support the family. They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good and comfortable life. They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many responsibilities, because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that. They instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough your challenges in life are. This value is very important to me, and I believe that I would not be where I am today if I didn t stay true to this value. This value has been especially important when I have had to deal with severe anxiety. I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during my freshman year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to the point where I could not even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend school, but these attempts would often end with me having a severe panic attack. This constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of depression. All of these factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would do all my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an hour each day. This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my anxiety. I met with a therapist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Heroes As Role Models Heroes are people with courage and perseverance, have made a significant impact in people s lives, and can be looked up to as role models. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are perfect examples of heroes because they stood up to the racism and sexism they received working at NASA, and did not allow it to stop them from being the best mathematicians and scientists that they could be. Katherine Johnson, probably the most well known of the three women, was born on 26 August, 1918, in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia. As a young girl, her absolute curiosity and brilliance in maths put her ahead several grades, and by the age of thirteen, she was attending high school. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in university, and graduated as the first African American to earn a PhD in maths. A NASA website page states, Katherine graduated with highest honors in 1937 and took a job teaching at a black public school in Virginia (Loff). She was hired for NASA, originally called NACA, in June 1953 and was assigned a project almost immediately. In 1958, NACA became NASA, and four years later, Katherine began working on satellite calculations to prepare for the first American man into space. Katherine became well known among other scientists, and before John Glenn took off into space, he said, If she [Katherine] says they re [the calculations are] good, then I m ready to go. • 9. Who Is Charles Sanders Pierce s The Fixation Of Belief This essay will explain the title The Fixation of Belief, by Charles Sanders Pierce. He argues that the method of science is superior to all other methods, due to its ability to establish what is true and what is not true in an objective manner. He argues that since experience of the method has not led us to doubt it, the method of science will necessarily lead us to one true conclusion. Peirce regarded logic as an instrument for drawing conclusions from premises. Unlike contemporary logicians, Peirce included in his conception of logic what we would now call epistemological concerns. In particular, he examined the origins of the premises of logical arguments. In his view, progress has been made in securing better starting points for our reasoning. In Peirce s view, the development of scientific method was largely a development of our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Logic studies movements in thought. Also, logic presupposes that there is a transition from a state of unbelief to a state of belief. The relevant state of unbelief is one of doubt, which is active consideration of the truth of a matter without commitment as to whether it is true or false. No other state of belief would motivate the use of inference. We would like to be able to identify the principles that are implied by the very idea of the passage from doubt to belief. These would be the most essential principles of logic. Doubts that we have, which give rise to inferences, are manifested through the asking of questions. On the other hand, when we make a pronouncement, we are expressing a belief. Doubt and belief give rise to very different feelings. Doubt is something we try to avoid, because it makes us uneasy and restless. Belief, on the other hand, gives rise to satisfaction. We therefore cling tenaciously to them. This is important because it is beliefs alone that guide our desires and shape our actions. Doubt renders us indecisive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Service Learning Reflection According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs in experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more universities are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service learning is civic responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities as a citizen. As will be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to a student, but also to the community members I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which I think millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can teach some people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their civic responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives. (p. 1 2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light. My understanding is that the authors believe by students reflecting on their interactions with the community, it can help further their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a bid to achieve this feat, it is therefore necessary to examine through this research work if there exist a relationship between achievement motivation and industrial development. A viable work force is germane in the industrial sector of a country to stimulate industrial growth and prosperity. But the backwardness in Nigerian today is a concern to the government of the day and the citizenry. Therefore, this work deemed it imperative to X ray, if there could be an impact of an individual intrinsic achievement motivation on industrialization. Owing to the fact that high productivity is the goal every individual and organizations so wished to attain. This has not easily come by. It is therefore the onus of this research work to unearth if there is a relationship between low productivity in our industries and achievement motivation on the part of the individual workers. There is a significant decline in the standard of living of the people, based on available evidence. Despite government effort at raising the standard of living of the people through industrialization all the efforts have proved abortive, hence the need for this research. • 13. China And Japan During The 19th And 20th Century China and Japan in the 19th and 20th Century China and Japan had fallen on hard times leading up to the 19th and 20th Century. Both China and Japan reigned as perhaps the two most successful countries in east Asia for most of their storied histories. China had been the center of trade between the west and east for hundreds of years, and economically was as wealthy as one could imagine. Japan, residing on an island off the coast of Korea, was traditionally rather isolated through its rule by Shoguns and Samurai. However, several factors led to their eventual downfalls before they could recover. For China, a corrupt Qing rule, unbalanced trade relations with the west, and a country wide opium crisis had set China back tremendously. Japan s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Revolutionary efforts led by men like Kang Youwei and Sun Yat Sen would eventually overthrow the Qing Dynasty. Even after several failed uprisings, Sun Yat Sen was still able to maintain a, steady stream of support of new followers, and he was always able to get enough funds from overseas Chinese, (Spence 110 111). On the first of January, 1911, Sun Yat Sen and his fellow revolutionaries would found the Republic of China (Spence 135). In 1945, after emerging victorious in a conflict with Japan, China s Nationalist and Communist Parties would enter into a civil war, with Mao Zedong and the communists winning the conflict and founding the People s Republic of China in 1949 (Spence 359). China under Mao would be subjected to killings and acts of propaganda meant to control a population being molded for communism. Mao s legacy is a strange one. Even though he did help give many Chinese more rights than ever before, his willingness to keep the population under control would create a very controversial China to say the least (Spence 387). • 15. The Similarities And Differences Of Fairy Folk Tales Comparative Analysis Essay Fairy Folk Tales are the most popular types of literature. The tale is an orally transmitted tradition by generations through the time; some events are changed to fit reality and society. Folk fairy tales deal with the dualism of the good and the evil. They are basing on a conflict between the good and the evil forces. The conclusion comes from aspirations of the human desire to achieve the justices. There are no known authors and sources for ancient s literature. We have many versions of the story; they are credited by many authors later. Each tale is very like some other culture s tale. Each culture has own tales, but all the tales are similarities and differences in some points. This essay will compare between two fairy tales, Cinderella and In the Land of Small Dragon . The tale of Cinderella is a French tale. It is credited by Charles Perrault; it is published in 1697. The in the Land of Small Dragon is a Vietnamese folktale; it is told by Dang Manh Kha in 1979. The tale works to improve the man s image, as a fair and a wise father; or a prince who is the savior of hopeless girl. The hopeless girl expresses a kind and a simple girl; otherwise, the woman mirrors a wicked, jealous, and ugly character. That is clear in these two fairy tales. While Cinderella and Tam were little kids, they lost their mothers. At this point, each of them her suffering and the painful journey begins. • 17. The Bad Luck Kennedys Essay The Kennedy family, the quintessential all American family, filled with some of the country s best and brightest. That special family contains a soldier, a few senators, and even a president, the famous John Franklin Kennedy. However, some of us have probably heard about the bad luck this family seems to run into, from a botched lobotomy to that famous JFK assassination. The whole entire family seems cursed, those ghastly curses ranging from Rosemary Kennedy s misdiagnosis and rather unfortunate botched lobotomy, to John F. Kennedy s assassination. It s sad to see a well respected family go through such tragedies, it s almost as the world was plotting against these people. In this essay, I will be talking about the multitude of the ... • 18. The Problem Of Gender Sexism Nowadays, there are still a lot of powerless groups exist in this world, such as the group of women. The problem of gender sexism exists from the beginning of the history and still continues in today s society. Women are still inferior to men in my country, whether from family and job status, social position and political views, women are treated unequal and disrespectful, therefore, this problem needs more abundant attention. Sexism, like many forms of prejudice, only survives in a traditional environments and this is how it continues in China from All China Women s Federation s website, yet this problem is still happening in China, but there must be a way to solve it. Since ancient times, people have thought that men should give priority to their jobs and the society and women should take family as the core. As a result, men and women are created and have different definitions. Gender is actually made by the society and its meaning is also created by the society. I do not know such a definition is good or bad. The good one is that distinction between men and women makes the society get balanced development. Women and other family members take care of the family and men make more contributions to the family and society. But the weakness is that some feudal and extreme cultures would develop the distinction of gender into discrimination. In many developing countries, women are considered to be lower than men. Most of the population considered itself catholic and attended Mass. However Salazar still had control and did not delay in even punishing members of the Church. Based on the readings of The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness is the search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the quest to becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some claim to be considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed partnership embrace in sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully understand Aristophanes concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details of the story in The Speech of Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth of a story long ago where there were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which were twice what they humans are now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though the gods hated these beings, they knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices. So, in replace Zeus decided to cut the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side, including their genitals. Because the humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they constantly had urges to find their other half to make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes theory of longing for one another. These types of salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary amounts for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and analysis of the salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister RV School District s, only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn a raise in pay for the next year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay increases also are earned by moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate credit completed toward an advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree. Hollister RV School District s certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of exceptionality, highlighting what is important to the District. However, there are also areas to be improved, including recruitment and retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is that the vertical steps carry the same monetary value as the horizontal columns with the exception of completing a Master s degree or a Specialist degree. For the first design, we went to Walmart and we looked for a remote controlled jeep that had some good specifications, but when we saw a lot of RC car options we did not know which one was the best, so we decided to buy one and try it. When I hear the word progress, I think of an improvement of a specific condition. Progress is advancing over a period of time and can have positive or negative effects of some sort. One significant event that led to great progress in human history was the discovery of America. The founding of America led to progress through the introduction of New World plants to the Old World, transmission of various diseases and colonization. First, it is the symbolic connection between reality and illusion. Throughout the course of the story, Peyton Fahrquars perception of reality is completely warped. He believes that he miraculously loosed his ropes, eluded the Union troop, and escaped home. This in reality is absolutely impossible. The bridge (a solid structure, with no escape route available) allows the reader to maintain a sense of reality while still being able to grasp Fahrquars illusion. Being awarded at such a young age for just about anything is highly misleading of how the real world works. Many young Americans have developed a sense of entitlement, expecting to gain more in return for less effort. Per a study done by Bernard Goldberg approximately one out of every three college students believes they deserve a B just for attending their courses. This sense of privilege is an almost contagious mind set that has only gotten worse. But many ask how exactly the idea that one should be rewarded for almost anything began? The self esteem movement was developed in 1969 after Nathaniel Branden wrote The Psychology of Self Esteem. The idea Branden proposed was that self esteem is essential to overall success in life. This caused many parents to believe that, if they could start by increasing their children s self esteem they would become more successful in the future. This brought up ideas intended to help children gain more confidence and self worth. For example, all children should receive participation awards so that no child would feel bad for not winning. Consequently, studies have found that children s self image may be negatively impacted by the ideas behind participation trophies and awards. Yet, parents still encourage rewards be given to all children. There seem to be two obvious reasons why parents want their children to receive trophies. One, they are terrified of how ... William Golding strikes this question in his highly realistic novel, Lord of The Flies. The story is set in a tropical island during World War 2 when a plane is shot down holding British schoolboys. No adults survive and they are left to govern themselves until they are rescued. Through Jack, Golding demonstrates what will happen to man when law and order are taken away, and that ultimately man will choose safe gray over civility. In the beginning, Jack shows up as head boy of the choir. Jack thinks he should lead the boys on the island because he already leads his choir. I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and head boy, (Golding 22). This is the first time we see Jack s wanting of power. However, these laws weren t always in effect. The novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is positioned in a small town called Saint Petersburg which is located in the south. Back then, racism in the south was a normal everyday occurrence that everyone accepted. This meant there were many victims who succumbed to racism. Throughout the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Injun Joe and the Spaniard have suffered racism both verbally and physically. To begin, the Spaniard has had to endure racist verbal remarks all of his time in Saint Petersburg. The Spaniard was never cherished by the community. They referred ... • 39. Toronto Police s Budget Cuts Problem The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze hiring for three years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in many officers (Fox, 2017). The plan initiated by the Toronto Police this January is one looking at a change to police culture as well as budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a product of the budget, the Toronto Police Service has hit the 1 billion mark as of this year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past (Powell, 2016). The Toronto police have made it their goal to not go over this cap and are doing everything in their power to cut costs. One of the ways they plan on doing this is through a 3 year hiring freeze of all civilian and new cadets (Lee Shanok, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prominent example is that of the privatization of Hydro One. Premier Kathleen Wynne wants to build $29 billion worth of new transit, roads and bridges over the next 10 years, and needs a way to pay for it(Morrow, 2015). In order to find more money, she has decided to sell off government assets (Morrow, 2015). This takes them out of the budget thus reducing expenditures as well as brings in money to be sued on other aspects of government. This is the same to Toronto removing the agencies not directly related to policing. It will provide more money to the force and remove the expenses that came along with harbouring those agencies. As Sappington and Stiglitz (1987) s fundamental Irrelevance Theorem explains, privatization may be, under some conditions, an optimal solution to the delegation problem (Martimort, ... • 40. Dolores Liquor Observation On 01/07/2017 at approximately 2258 hours, while patrolling the town of Dolores, I observed two males at the front door of the Dolores Liquor Store located at 202 South 3rd Street, Town of Dolores, County of Montezuma, State of Colorado. There are two doors at the front that are recessed into the building and covered. The north door accesses the liquor store and the south door access the office but is not utilized. The Dolores Liquor Store was closed for business and I did not observe any vehicles in the parking lot. As I approached Third Street, the individuals ran south from the front door and to the ... Isabelle Boyce explained that on today s date, they realized that a security camera located at the front of the store was damaged and after reviewing their surveillance, determined that the camera was in working order until 01/07/2017 at 2250 hours. I responded to the Dolores Liquor store at approximately ** hours and spoke with Isabelle Boyce. She stated that they contacted the security company for assistance in downloading the captured surveillance footage. I viewed the surveillance and observed three individuals walk in the area and to the Dolores Liquor Store at approximately 2238 hours. While walking southeast toward the building, one of the males looks toward the camera. He appears to be wearing khaki colored jeans and a hooded jacket. The jacket appears to have blue sleeves, a large blue pocket located directly in front of the jacket and extends for both hands and the chest portion of the jacket appears to be patterned with words across the chest. He also appears to be wearing yellow in color skater style shoes. At approximately 2255 hours, the male appears to now have a white covering over his jacket and face and while utilizing a large wood object resembling a wooden dowel, he approaches the camera and smashes the camera. I took digital photographs of the male but the images are distorted and not clear. Isabelle Boyce stated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a buffer between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in the face of aggression and unfair treaties. The treaties would make up part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
