FILM
DISTRIBUTION
By Saffron Lee
WHAT IS A DISTRIBUTOR?
- A distributor consists of a organization who have the job to display your film at markets or
festivals across the world. They branch out to reach towards new films, to represent their
distribution.
- They aim to seek out for exhibitors which will showcase a film onto a large audience
screening. Their main aim is to get exhibitors interested in the film to advertise the movie to
mass viewers resulting in the best revenue.
-All the backstage advertisement is aimed towards a target audience who shore interest in the
film.
- Ultimately, the bigger the audience the bigger the success. They aim to get it large DVD
releases and a massive audience to support the film.
EXAMPLE: FILM 4
-Film 4 was firstly, established as Channel Four Films in 1982.
-They develop and showcase feature length films for theatrical release in cinemas.
- They distribute fairly low budget films, which they believe have the potential to become
vastly popular and successful.
- This could contribute to my film, as it will be on a low budget and Film 4 would give me the
platform to flourish and feature the film to a wide audience.
