2. Warm-up – pens, paper, journal, books
• (note) Global Partnership: The biggest global issues can
only be addressed if countries work together.
• (Write an answer) Humans are social creatures that work
together to survive. When was the last time you worked with
someone else towards a common goal or objective?
Homework: none last week
(Note) Skills: Literacy, managing information, being creative
(Note) Objectives:
1. Be able to explain campaigns for change that the U.N. set up.
2. Understand that even massive governments get things wrong
sometimes.
(Note Heading:) A Campaign for Change Date:
3. First we’re going to read pages 160 to 162 which examines
the UN’s first attempt at fixing the planet. This was called
the Millennium Development Goals and was not a
complete success. (Saved a lot of lives but did not reach
it’s goals.)
We only look at their first goal; to eradicate extreme
poverty and hunger, then move 15 years on to attempt two
next week.
We’ll then complete an activity in your reflective journal.
Plan for today
4. First, let’s start reading page 160 which introduces the goals. Then
move on to the targets, results and reasons for failure. Take notes
down afterwards.
(Note) Millennium Development Goals:
(Note one of the three targets on page 161, in the colored boxes,
and one of the results.)
(Note all three reasons why the campaign was not a success from
page 162. Three bullet points at the top)
When finished the notes, go to page 97 of your Blue Reflective
Journal. It asks you to note in more detail the aims and outcomes.
