Warm –up – pens, paper, journal, books,
• Note: Dail Eireann is the name given to Ireland’s parliament (it’s
law making body) and seats 160 TD’s which represent the citizens.
• (2 Seats added last year)
• (Task:) Open page 191 of the green book and write a description of
the picture you see. Looking for big, bold descriptions.
Homework: You’re focusing on Christmas report.
(note) Skills: Numeracy and managing information.
(Note) Objectives
1. Be able to explain what Dail Eireann is.
2. Create your own parties based on something simple
(Note Heading:) Democracy 11 Date:
 We are going to read pages 191 – 192 of the book
which examines the Dail, TD’s and shows us the
political parties again.
 We will take notes examining how people are
represented.
 You will then split up into teams and create a
political party based on either hobbies, interests or
an issue like ‘no homework’. You shall try to get
other 3rd year classes to vote for your party.
Plan for today
 Start reading pages 191 to 192 which examines Dail Eireann
and TDs. Then take down the following note:
 (note) Leinster House houses both the Dail and Seanad. In
the Seanad, experts debate and discuss laws. In the Dail,
they pass new laws.
 (note) Ireland is divided into 40 constituencies based on
Population. There are several constituencies in Dublin
therefore and less in the countryside.
 (Think) Is it fair that people in the city have a bigger voice
and more say into how the country is run?
Page 191 – 192, reading and writing
 You are now going to hold an election campaign. The point
of this is to have people agree with you and vote for you to
represent them. There are 4 steps in this process.
1. Form a party based on common interests.
2. Name your party and give it a symbol.
3. Decide your priorities and what your party wants.
4. Put all this information down on an ‘easy to digest’ poster.
The hope is that your information is then shared with other
classes and they vote which party would win (Because your
class would just vote for yourselves)
Task (note the instructions)
 Continue your report.
 Next week, we shall be back to blue book as
well.
No Homework
