Extracurricular Activities Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of extracurricular activities can prove to be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies not in the lack of information or personal experiences, but rather in
the task of encapsulating the essence of one's involvement in these activities and conveying their
significance effectively.
The challenge arises in striking the right balance between showcasing personal growth, skills
acquired, and the impact these activities have had on one's character. It requires thoughtful
introspection to delve into the valuable lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the
challenges overcome during these pursuits.
Moreover, the essay demands a nuanced approach to avoid sounding generic or overly boastful.
It necessitates the ability to articulate the specific ways in which participation in extracurricular
activities has contributed to personal development and academic pursuits. This involves skillful
storytelling, connecting diverse experiences into a coherent narrative that captures the reader's
attention and leaves a lasting impression.
On a deeper level, the challenge lies in navigating the fine line between humility and self-
promotion. The essay must convey achievements and growth without coming across as arrogant
or insincere. Balancing self-reflection with a genuine acknowledgment of the collaborative nature
of extracurricular engagements is crucial.
In conclusion, while the difficulty of writing an essay on extracurricular activities is present, it is
also an opportunity for self-discovery and expression. Successfully navigating this challenge can
result in a powerful and compelling narrative that not only fulfills the academic requirement but
also provides a unique insight into the individual behind the words.

What Is The Stoichiometric Mixture In A Carburetor
Any combustion engine needs air with fuel and heat. The carburetor allows the
internal combustion engine to breath in the right mixture of air and fuel. This
mixture consists of air and a fine spray of fuel flowing in rapid velocity. To
understand how a carburetor works one must need to know how it prepares the
stoichiometric mixture. Air first enters its intake. It sounds so simple until one
realizes the pressure difference between the inside of the engine and the
atmospheric pressure. The pressure inside a carburetor is low which allows it to
suck air needed by the engine cylinders. This draft of air enters the venturi tube and
creates a pressure drop in this area and main fuel jet. The decrease of air pressure in
the jet creates a suction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand how it works one must recall how a person draws juice from its
container. The pressure drops in the straw as air flows in a particular speed toward
the person. It causes the juice to flow towards the mouth of the person. The same
thing happens inside the fuel jet. The fuel will enter the venturi, as it does it
expand to make a fine spray. It expands due to the change in the cross sectional area
it transverse. What happens here is akin to what happens with a spray gun or a
flexible hose. The liquid passes through a narrow pathway with a low fluid
pressure and high fluid velocity. As it comes out the opening the fluid the pathway
broadens; thus, its pressure rises and its velocity drops. The force it exerts on the
side of the pathway causes it to expand once it s out the nozzle creating a fine spray.
The fuel jet creates the same spray at the side of the venturi. This fine spray mixes
with the air flowing into the venturi. As the mixture flows past the venturi the
pressure rises and the fuel and air get better mixed in a wider cross section of the
tube. The stoichiometric mixture would flow past the throttle valve and then enter
the intake manifold of the

Schindler s List Comparison
The feature film Schindler s List was the movie adaptation of the novel, Schindler s
Ark by Thomas Keneally. It was said that the story was told to the author by the
Pfefferberg family, survivors and members of Schindler s Jews. This black and white
docudrama was a fictional film that has a high degree of factuality. Steven Spieldberg
s purpose of creating the movie in this fashion was to document the atrocities of the
Holocaustof World War II, while giving the film a connection to the audience.

These moments defined him as a businessman. They truly didn t touch him. His
moment came during the cleansing of the ghetto. He was atop the hill looking
down on all that lay beneath. The gun shots, the shouts and cries echoed for all to
hear. And out of the darkness he saw a young girl in a red coat. This was the only
color in the entire film. It was his pivotal moment. That young girl represented the
innocence and the humanity that the Jewish people had been denied. The realization
had dawned on Schindler as the full weight of the reality hit him. From that moment
on during the film, Schindler was a changed man. His efforts to secure his people
went from a purely economic standpoint, to a more altruistic motive. Schindler
created the list in the film, although through the research of many it has been found
that the full story isn t as cut and dried. The original list was created by Raimund

Essay on Narrative Report on Vertigo
Assignment 1: Narrative report on Vertigo
Establishing the difference between the story and the plot allows one to determine
the effect each element has on the understanding and interpretation of the piece. It
also provides a way of tracking the continuation of events and the relationship
between seemingly isolated moments in time. Film Art clearly defines both story and
plot but acknowledges that there is a significant overlap between the two functions
and allows a flow within the film. The plot is the presentation of the events, in
chronological order and includes the events that are seen, inferred and assumed by
the viewer as opposed to the story. The story refers to the way in which the plot is
presented, the personality imposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening scene introduces us to the person we later learn is John Scottie
Ferguson, something that does not play out until much later in the film relates to the
demonstration of the debilitating extent of Johns inability to act in the face of
heights, once with the police officer and then with his love whom he cant stop
because of his fear. The opening scene builds on the credits by creating the
expectation of suspense and thrill and mystery shrouding the true identity and
relation of characters and setting up the disposableness of characters in the film, this
adds to the complexity of Madeline s disease as the audience cant tell whether, or
more when, she will die.
The rooftop chase creates an expectation of dark drama, which moves into the scene
with Midge in a light filled room where Scottie appears to be in control of his fear
and the relationship between the two characters is established, whilst not technically
part of the opening scene it instantly makes the viewer question whether their
interpretation of the initial segment of the film was correct, already one is
questioning their ability to pick the direction of the film.
In a sense, the closing scene is the exact opposite of the opening scene, scotty and

Males in Elementary Education
Introduction
The statistics for males in elementary education has not changed much in the last 20
years (Malaby, M., Ramsey, S. (2011)). Most of the cons about males in elementary
education just come from stereotypes and society norms. Gender roles play a big part
in male s decisions to become a teacher because of their image of being less
masculine than others. There are plenty of reasons why males should consider
elementary education such as benefits to the work place and children s growth as
being a role model. Although it is not the norm for males to teach ... Show more

Negative stereotypes such as that is what hurts males the most when trying to
decide if they should pursue a job in the field. A con that prevents males from
considering this profession would be pay. Jones (2013), wrote that males usually
like to be the breadwinners in the family. The lack of pay would never allow the
male to be the breadwinner in this profession.
Malaby, M., Ramsey, S. (2011), says that males are underrepresented as elementary
school teachers. One may ask, why pursue a degree in something that you aren t
going to be given the credit you deserve? Even though the myth is that males should
not get a degree in elementary education because they are not nurturing or patient,
some research shows that male elementary teachers often body these traits and
practices (Crisp, T., King, J. (2016)). Just like any other job, skills and traits come
with experience.
Gender Roles
The norm of elementary education is that females work in this profession. The job
is looked at as feminine which makes males not want to pursue a degree in this field
because of what people think. Males that have a passion for teaching will not care
what their friends, family, or anyone else has to say negative towards them for
pursuing this degree. Most of the time males can not take the heat from people saying
things about their masculinity. Montecinos, C., Neilson, L. (2004), talks about how
people actually gets criticized by
Lost Generation
Jack Kerouac and Ernest Hemingway represent their inner state and feelings at the
time they lived through their novels. Ernest Hemingway corresponds to the Lost
Generation of 1920 s and Jack Kerouac corresponds to the Beat Generation of 1950
s. Both of these generations were after wars. It is not coincidence, wars make
people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and pain through
literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote
songs, which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the
most talented writers of our days. For us it seems that there was no big deal to write
such openly, but if we try to go back to the time of these authors, we will understand

I d just tromper you with everybody. You couldn t stand it (p.62). Jake is lost; he
could not fully realize himself as a normal man. This problem means that he could
not have sex, he could not marry, and finally he could not have a normal family
with children. All of these problems made him get drunk often, as alcohol helped
him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn asked him: Don t
you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking
advantage of it? Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to
live already? and he answers, Yes, every once in a while. (p.30). So, alcohol was
an escape from his problems and he said: Under the wine I lost disgusted feeling
and was happy (p.150). When he is drunk, life seems better and easier. But when he
wakes up next morning, he regrets it, but he never tries to change his life, he just
accepts it as it is. Hemingway presented Jake and Brett to portray people with lost
believes and nothingness. Both of them accepted their lives as it was and did not try
to change anything. Hemingway is not optimistic about the future, for him and his
characters the meaning of life is lost. Similarly to Hemingway, Kerouac shows
readers how people wanted to escape reality, as to forget about war young people
traveled across the country in order to find the lost meaning of the life and have fun.
Kerouac chooses a different path and describes the characters of the
Capital Structure Of A Company
II. INTRODUCTION
Capital structure is the proportion of debt and equity in which a corporate finances
its business. The capital structure of a company/firm plays a very important role in
determining the value of a firm. There are various theories which propagate the ideal
capital mix / capital structure for a firm.
A corporate can finance its business mainly by 2 means i.e. debts and equity.
However, the proportion of each of these could vary from business to business. A
company can choose to have a structure which has 50% each of debt and equity or
more of one and less of another. Capital structure is also referred to as financial
leverage, which strictly means the proportion of debt or borrowed funds in the
financing mix of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before this point, the marginal cost of debt is less than cost of equity and after this
point vice versa. Traditional approach to capital structure advocates that there is a
right combination of equity and debt in the capital structure, at which the market
value of a firm is maximum. As per this approach, debt should exist in the capital
structure only up to a specific point, beyond which, any increase in leverage would
result in reduction in value of the firm.
It means that there exists an optimum value of debt to equity ratio at which the
WACC is the lowest and the market value of the firm is the highest. Once the firm
crosses that optimum value of debt to equity ratio, the cost of equity rises to give a
detrimental effect to the WACC. Above the threshold, the WACC increases and
market value of the firm starts a downward movement.
b. Modigliani Miller s Approach
Modigliani and Miller, two professors in the 1950s, studied capital structure theory
intensely. From their analysis, they developed the capital structure irrelevance
proposition. Essentially, they hypothesized that in perfect markets, it does not matter
what capital structure a company uses to finance its operations. They theorized that
the market value of a firm is determined by its earning power and by the risk of its
underlying assets, and that its value is independent of the way it chooses to finance its

As Brooks says that the close of his account proposes the significance of speech as

After the creature tells his tale to Victor, Brooks says that spoken verbal

gesticulations. It is because of fervor and longing that verbal communication was
urbanized. Since verbal communication is born out of obsession, it is able to depict
the sentiments of love to the individual. The creature after that makes use of his

Trickster Techniques Used In How Stories Came To Earth
Many trickster tales follow a similar outline and contain similar elements. In the three
trickster tales, ВЁHow Stories Came to EarthВЁ, ВЁCoyote Steals FireВЁ, and
ВЁMaster Cat, or Puss in BootsВЁ, it contains the trickster tale elements of the
helpfulness of the trickster, the cleverness of the trickster, and the use of
anthropomorphism.
There are several instances in each of the three stories in which the trickster in each
of them are helpful in some way. In How Stories Came to Earth , Anansigot the
stories from the sky god to give to the world around him. This is very helpful
because those who inhabited the world now have the stories to carry on through
the generations and through scripture as well. Also, in Coyote Steals Fire , Coyote
takes the fire from Thunder to give all over the world. This act helps the people
and animals of the world who need fire for light, to keep warm, and to cook food.
Lastly, in Master Cat, or Puss in Boots , the cat tricks the king into believing the
Marquis de Carabas is very wealthy and has power. This helped the Marquis de

For example, in How Stories Came to Earth , Anansi tricks other the hornets into

caused him to capture the hornets. Another example is, when Coyote tricked
Thunder into playing the dice game. Coyote knew he couldn t beat his uncle, so
when Thunder wasn t looking he would cheat and flip the dice to his advantage.
Finally, the cleverness of the trickster is demonstrated in Master Cat when the cat
tricks the king. Over the course of the story, the cat tricked the king into believing
that his master owned land and a castle. Those are just a few ways the cleverness of
the trickster is demonstrated in the three trickster
The Pros And Cons Of H1 Bulb
Introduction
Few things are more important in a vehicle than a good set of headlights. Choosing
inferior bulbs for the sake of saving a couple of dollars is a mistake you will quickly
come to regret. If your car is designed for H1 bulbs, you should fit it with the best H1
bulbs you can find.
What Is A H1 Bulb?
The H1 headlight bulb can trace it s roots back to Europe, where it was first
introduced in 1962. The first halogen lamp designed for use in cars and other
automotive vehicles, the original H1 bulb proved to be a controversial invention. So
controversial, in fact, that it was banned in the United States of America and would
not be permitted for use in the country until 1997. Nowadays, H1 bulbs are not only
a okay in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that if you are replacing your headlights, you must purchase a total of
four bulbs, a high and low model for either side. Headlight bulbs only equipped to
release one beam are called single filament bulbs .
Twin filament bulbs are designed to emit both low and high beams from a single
source, so if your car requires twin filament bulbs, you ll only have to spend money
on one bulb for each side. While this may seem more economical, the general
consensus is that twin filament bulbs are nowhere near as powerful as their single
filament counterparts. Single filament bulbs are far more common than twin filament
models, with the latter being very rarely seen outside of H4 bulbs.
H1 bulbs, if you haven t guessed it already, are single filament bulbs. That might
come as a bit of a disappointment if you were hoping to keep costs to a minimum
when replacing your headlights, but it can actually work out more economical in the
long run. Because single filament bulbs offer a brighter and further reaching light,
the risk of an accident is significantly lower than if you were lighting your way using
twin filament bulbs. This means the chances of you having to repair certain parts of
your car are significantly

Misconceptions About Sharks
1 Lots of people seem to have misconceptions about sharks; they re man eating killing
machines, they re aggressive towards humans; they re unimportant to the ocean s
ecosystem. I highly disagree with these notions. In fact, I believe sharks are one of
the greatest animals on the planet. Despite the stigma surrounding sharksand their
history in Hollywood movies (see: Jaws, Sharknado, Deep Blue Sea, etc), sharks
actually aren t very aggressive towards humans at all. Statistics show that youhave
approximately a 1 in 3,748,067 chance of being attacked by a sharkin your

Experts say sharks rarely ever attack humans unprovoked. Most shark attacks are
caused by mistaken identity, meaning they mistook you for a seal or a turtle, a
shark s prey (see below). Sharks also investigate things by bumping it with their
snout, or by putting it in their mouth. This is what causes hit and runs the shark
takes a bite and disappears. This is because the shark realized you weren t prey, or
that you even tasted good. Shark attacks are also uncommonly fatal. According to
statistics, only about 7% of shark attacks end in death. The three species of shark that
are the most common perpetrators behind shark attacks are: the bull shark, tiger
shark and great white, in that order. This isn t to say that those particular species are
more aggressive or dangerous than other species. Unlike, say, lemon sharks, bulls,
tigers and great whites are more likely to encounter a human. Statistics show that
beaches with more visitors each year have more shark attacks. For example, Florida
sees around 90 million tourists each year, whereas North Carolina only gets about 50
million. Guess which state has more shark attacks? The more people in the water, the
higher the chance of a shark attack
The Development Of The Lowboy
During the 1920s, the device known as the low boy was invented. The name was
appropriate because it stood approximately one to two feet off the ground (2). Like
the bass drum pedal, the low boy was a contraption that would be triggered by the
foot. When it was triggered, it would bring two cymbals together to create a chink
sound. Before this invention, drummers would accent certain points in the music by
holding two cymbals together in one hand and creating the noise that way. Now,
with this invention, a hand was freed, and the percussionist could use his hand to do
other activities (2). The development of the lowboy also encouraged four way
independence. Four way independence is the practice of having each limb on one s
body play something different. This encouraged more syncopated rhythms which
encouraged better music (2). As time went on, the lowboy slowly became taller and
taller, and it soon developed into the hi hat cymbal. Steve Fidyk summed the evolution
of this mechanism perfectly. The lowboy was elevated twice during its development.
It grew into the sock cymbal, (approximately twenty inches tall), and eventually, the
hi hat, as swing drummers like Chick Webb, Gene Krupa, Ray McKinley, and Jo
Jones wanted the option of playing time on the cymbals with their hands.
The invention of the low boy allowed for new styles of music to be invented. This
means that more drum equipment needed to be invented! In New Orleans, drummers
were experimenting with sticks.
Nietzsche Overman Analysis
Nietzsche s overman has the right to make promises because he, according to
Nietzsche, is the only being who is able to keep those promises. For Nietzsche, an
overman has the strength of character: the reliability and regularity to be able to
make promises ( Second essay: Guilt , bad conscience and related matters 36).
Nietzsche connects the would promise with the word responsibility, and the
importance of that in a man who has the ability to make promises.
Nietzsche refers to the ability to make promises as the mastering of free will, and
he states how could a man who as mastered free will, how could he remain ignorant
of his superiority over everybody who does not have the prerogative to promise or
answer to himself ( Second essay: Guilt , bad conscience and related matters 37).
This gives insight into the overman because if the overman is the only being who
has the right to make promises, then they must also be an awareness, a conscience, of
self. This ability to make and keep promises is not the only component of the
overman s character though.
The overman has a character of that is in charge of their own free will, and is free of
the burden of bad conscience, and is not slave to ressentiment. The overman is a
being of strength and not of weakness; the overman character must be strong as it has
to overcome attacks from those who see strength as a negative. This base character is
what allows the overman to not fall into the gripe of ressentiment and
America Vote Act ( Hava )
I was surprised to discover that voter identification began in 1950 when South
Carolina became the first state to request some form of identification from voters
at the polling precincts. Then Hawaii followed in 1970, Texas in 1971, Florida in
1977, and Alaska in 1980. Some of them asked for an ID with a photo, while others
asked for any type of document with or without a photo; all provided other means
for people to vote if they couldn t present identification. By 2000, fourteen states
were asking for voter identification documents ( Voter ID ). That year, we had a
highly disputed presidential election. Following its outcome, the United States
Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) in 2002, which ushered in
comprehensive election reform. Under the law, states are required to follow
mandatory minimum standards that included implementing new programs and
procedures such as provisional voting; voting information and voter education;
upgraded, tested and certified voting technology; statewide voter registration list;
voter identification procedures; and an improved election administration system (
Help America Vote Act ). The Commission on Federal Election Reform advocated
similar propositions in their 2005 report (69 70). Consequently, voter ID laws were
enacted around the country. The laws require eligible voters to produce government
issued identification before casting a countable ballot at the polls. Voter
identification, categorized between strict and
Why Is Zebras Endangered
Zebras are undeniably the coolest animal on earth except of course Lions, Tigers, and
Sharks. But other than those they are the coolest. The unique stripes of zebras make
them one of the animals most familiar to people. They occur in a variety of habitats,
such as grasslands, savannas, woodlands, thorny scrublands, mountains, and coastal
hills. However, various anthropogenic factors have had a severe impact on zebra
populations, in particular hunting for skins and habitat destruction. GrГ©vy s zebra
and the mountain zebra are endangered. While plains zebras are much more plentiful,
one subspecies, the quagga, became extinct in the late 19th century though there is
currently a plan, called the Quagga Project, that aims to breed zebras that
Smart Crawler, For Efficient Harvesting Deep Web...
As deep web grows at a very fast pace, there has been increased interest in
techniques that help efficiently locate deep web interfaces. However, due to the
large volume of web resources and the dynamic nature of deep web, achieving
wide coverage and high efficiency is a challenging issue. We propose a two stage
framework, namely Smart Crawler, for efficient harvesting deep web interfaces. In
the first stage, Smart Crawler performs site based searching for center pages with
the help of search engines, avoiding visiting a large number of pages. To achieve
more accurate results for a focused crawl, Smart Crawler ranks websites to
prioritize highly relevant ones for a given topic. In the second stage, Smart
Crawler achieves fast in site searching by excavating most relevant links with an
adaptive link ranking. To eliminate bias on visiting some highly relevant links in
hidden web directories, we design a link tree data structure to achieve wider
coverage for a website. Introduction The deep (or hidden) web refers to the contents
lie behind searchable web interfaces that cannot be indexed by searching engines.
Based on extrapolations from a study done at University of California, Berkeley, it
is estimated that the deep web contains approximately 91,850 terabytes and the
surface web is only about 167 terabytes in 2003. More recent studies estimated that
1.9 zettabytes were reached and 0.3 zettabytes were consumed worldwide in 2007.
An IDC report estimates that the total of all
Grapes Of Wrath Transcendentalism
In John Steinbeck s 1939 novel, The Grapes of Wrath, the theme of family is
explored. Steinbeck follows a family of migrants moving westward during the Great
Depression/Dust Bowl era, and chronicles their experiences as they live through
overly inferior conditions. In Chapter Seventeen of the novel, Steinbeck discusses
what life is like generally for migrant families as they journey out west. It becomes
the norm for families to set up camp each night with other families and share their
food and experiences. The migrants set up their own rules for their society and

How Did Benito Mussolini Support Fascism
Benito Mussolini Benito Mussolini was born on July 29, 1883 in Forli, Italy. He
was the son of a blacksmith that believed in socialism. As a child, Mussolini was
very intelligent, but also very disobedient. He was expelled from many schools for
bullying and defying school authorities. In 1901, he obtained a teaching certificate
and was a schoolmaster for a short time. He was raised to believe in socialism but as
time went by, his beliefs changed.
Fascism Fascism was a political movement that emphasized loyalty to the state and
obedience to its leaders. Mussolini used his former allies, the socialist to build
power, but betrayed them by supporting fascism. He wanted to make Italy a major
power and create an Italian colonial empire. Mussolini ... Show more content on

His followers were called fascists. Fascist squads swept through Italy s countryside,
causing a lot of destruction. In October 1922, about 30,000 fascists marched to Rome
and demanded that King Victor Emmanuel put Mussolini in charge of the
government. Now that he was prime minister, Mussolini abolished other political
parties. Once he was leader, he called himself Il
Duce or The Supreme Leader. Mussolini could continue his fascist reign with all the
power he got.
Ethiopia Mussolini invaded Ethiopia to show the strength of his regime. Italy
prepared for 10 months before invading Ethiopia in October 1935. Ethiopians were
not prepared to fight against Italy s modern tanks and airplanes. Italians dropped gas
bombs on the Ethiopian people. Britain, France, and other countries did not like Italy
s conquering of Ethiopia. The disapproval of other nation drove Mussolini to an
alliance with Germany.
Militarism/Blackshirts The Blackshirts were armed squads who supported
Mussolini and used violence to fight anti fascist groups. The Blackshirts became the
national militia on February 1, 1923. Mussolini used middle class youth to suppress
his opposition. The Blackshirts were a powerful force that later merged with the
military. They wore black uniforms were a way of showing support for the Italian

The Great Gatsby Idealised Love
A significantly powerful emotion, love, possessing the ability to transform a live to
the greatest but also destroy. The concepts of idealised love have been expressed in
texts throughout history, and each is relevant to their specific periods and specific
value systems. This can be seen in both, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s (EBB) poetry
Sonnets from the Portuguese, 1845 and F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel The Great Gatsby ,
1925 which explore in depth the similar perspectives of ideal love, although the
context that surrounds each text reshapes the composer s viewpoint. Barrett
Browning explores a romantic vision of love and enhances our perception of this
interpersonal human emotion through a rebellion of the unbending principles of the

In the roaring 20 s, America was referred to as the Jazz Age , a positive and
optimistic time where possibilities seemed endless. The concept in EBB s sonnet
of ideal love transforming individuals is similarly interpreted through the
characterisation of Gatz into Gatsby. The obsessive love to own Daisy highlights
the idea that this power of love can only exist in the Jazz Age. Gatsby s idealised
love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly evident in the
dialogue her voice is full of money . Gatsby s is willing to reinvent himself for
Daisy and he consumes everything he does in life to make himself worthy of
Daisy so they can marry as if it were five years ago. Nick the novel s narrator, tells
Gatsby that you can t repeat the past to which Gatsby replies why of course you
can! I m going to fix everything just the way it was before . This evidently shows
that the power of ideal love which is genuine and unconditional is very strong on
individual s and transforms them into a whole new world with new values. Gatsby
s determination to make everything right evidently depicts how the concept of
ideal love had transformed him to attain his ideal love, Daisy. Hence, Fitzgerald
conveys his perspective of ideal love during the Jazz Age, and similar to EBB, ideal
love is seen to transform individual s and demanding for love to

How Did Clarence Henry Anthony Fight
Clarence Henry was a big name in boxing (he is a member of the World Boxing
Hall of Fame elected the year before he died and while boxing, he won various
heavyweight titles). He was a heavyweight fighter, who packed a heavy punch
despite his light weight of 185 pounds (he was also six feet, one inch tall). He
fought in a total of 41 fights, six losses, one draw, nineteen knockout wins (34 total
wins). Some of the fighters Henry beat include: Jimmy Bivins, Willie Bean, Irish
Bob Murphy, Albert Thompson, Charlie Doc Williams, and Rusty Payne. Frank
Blinky Palermo, a gangster, ran the biggest numbers racket (a lottery scam) Philly
has ever seen, and associate of the Philadelphia crime family, owned Henry s
contract and acted as his manager when Henry was ranked third in the world. He
is best known for fixing fights and owning big boxers, as being connected to
organized crime. One of the biggest fights that he fixed was the Jake LaMotta Billy
Fox fight in 1947. Besides Fox and Henry, he also owned Ike Williams, Virgil

What Is The Difference Between Three Day Road And

Joyner Lucas s music video Ross Capicchioni and Joseph Boyden s novel, Three
day road Correspond with a lot of similarities with iconic symbols like the trickster,
and how the story is formed in an aboriginal way of storytelling. But what stands
out between the Three day road and Ross Capicchioni is how they re both centered
around a theme of betrayal and conflict. Both stories represent, that hanging out

To bring this similarity into play first readers must know what qualities tricksters
hold within themselves. Usually, tricksters have Strong appetites for food and sex

spirited combined with the thought of being clever and foolishness. And all these
traits resonate with the character traits of Elijah and Ross s friend. When watchers

to see what correlated within his mind while planning to kill Ross, a line in the
song says That life was all I knew, all I wanted was to do was cruise Smoke weed

similar to Elijah s willingness to be free and essentially fly and be above all living

Alice s Journey Through Wonderland
Lewis Carroll s classic children s novel, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is
fundamentally about the growth of the character of Alice. In the Victorian period
1837 1901, there was a changes in children education and reflexively development
of children literature. Therefore when writing Lewis Carroll attempts to put forth
a form of education within the text. The story follows Alice who is a seven year
old well mannered victorian girl that stumbles through a rabbit hole into the
magical world of Wonderland. Alice takes on the role of the audience viewing
Wonderland and its strange inhabitants. It is through language in both

the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale, mid market with food and beverage,

Finally, McDonald s could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by
using the same type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line.
Strategy Recommendations
General Recommendations
McDonald s should use their brand name to create a McDonald s experience in the
hotel industry just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their
food service experience with their hotels and create new menus for them just like they
do when they enter a new country.
Specific Recommendations
McDonald s should enter the mid market with food and beverage segment. In this
segment they can take advantage of what they already know in the food service
industry while avoiding the high cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations.
These hotels should be directed at children and families. They could incorporate
the McDonald s Play Place and other fun activity rooms like arcades or maybe
something more adult like a game room with pool tables and electronic darts. Using
a more family oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost of liquor
licenses and trying to compete with something that is already being done.
Rationale behind Recommendations
If McDonald s wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand
name it is important that they differentiate themselves from all the other hotel chains.

Vulnerability to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Terrorism
Introduction
A key issue in Homeland Security and Emergency Management today is the country
s vulnerability to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terrorism.
The increasing proliferation of CBRN weapons all over the world is a primary
security challenge due to their indiscriminate and destructive nature. CBRN weapons
inflict physical damage, provoke panic, and result in societal, as well as economic
disruption. As such, this form of terrorism is a major source of concern for
emergency response organizations and departments in the United States. Despite the
relatively low rates of utilization by state and non state actors today, the risk posed
by CBRN weapons is too high for security organs to simply ignore. A principal
incentive for CBRN terrorism across the world is its ability to disrupt entire state
sectors and cause widespread contamination. As a result, it is important to study a
nation s vulnerability to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN)
terrorism.
Research Question
1.What is the relationship between the rate of proliferation of CBRN weapons and
the country s vulnerability to CBRN terrorism?
Research Hypotheses
1.The rate of proliferation of CBRN weapons has a direct impact on the country s
vulnerability to CBRN terrorism.
2.There is a correlation between the nature of terrorist groups and a country s level of
vulnerability to CBRN
Comparing Presidential Evaluations
Being president probably isn t the easiest job. Here are some of my views on
President Trump and Obama. There are many comparisons and differentiations
between them. One being Trump wanting to get rid of programs, for example DACA

idea to make the country better. Presidential assessment is analytical because it helps
us confirm strong leadership. There are two types of assessments; annual and
comprehensive. Presidential evaluations, especially annual evaluations based on the
president s self assessment, have become much more widespread as part of
accreditors expectations for institutions responsibility. Presidental assessment should

Why I Chose The Skeletal System
Human anatomy is the scientific study of the human body that consists of several
interacting systems. According to Wiki, Anatomy has become a key part of the visual
arts. The skeletal system is one of the most drawn systems of human anatomy. The
skeletal system is the framework of the human body that provides support, protection,
and flexibility. Hillendale Health says, Without your skeletonyour body would
collapse into a heap. I chose the skeletal systembecause without it we would not be
able to experience the significant parts of life. The skeletal system is all of the bones
in the body and the tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connect
them. Bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage account for about twenty percent
The Plague Of Bubonic Plague
Some victims reportedly went to bed healthy and died in their sleep (Gale). This
terrible epidemic is known all over the world for it s deadly and unique
characteristics. The diffusion, history, and cure are just a couple universal aspects
that contribute to the well known, yet unforgiving disease known as the Bubonic
Plague. The Bubonic Plague diffused to many people during its time of dominance.
To start, the Bubonic Plague is transmitted to other living organisms in a distinct
way. The plague bacteria circulates among different populations of certain rodents
without causing an excessive amount of rodent die off ( Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention ). When the bacteria finishes off the last of the rodent
population the fleas are forced to turn on to humans (Benedictow). After three days
of fasting the hungry rat fleas will do anything for the smell and taste of fresh
human blood (Benedictow). Once the plague bacteria makes its way into the human
society everything goes downhill from there. The plague bacteria is most often
transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected flea ( Centers for Disease control
and Prevention ). Also people can become infected when handling the tissue or body
fluids of a plague infected animal ( Centers for Disease control and Prevention ). Not
only were the rat fleas involved in transmitting the disease, but also our own kind
were a key contributor to the transmission of this deadly disease. Without even
knowing, the black death

The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner Analysis
War Does Evil
A Discussion of Three Messages From Randall Jarrell s Gunner There was not a
point in this world s history when war was more prevalent, than that of World War
Two. During this time, millions of innocent lives were slain, and millions of
soldiers died fighting, but were replaced almost instantly. War completely
manipulates the human mind, allowing it to commit actions no mind would ever
think to conceive otherwise. War takes over the will of humanity, and brings out
the ferocity that all humans have boiled down inside them. For example, journalist
Roy Bing Chan recites, On one hand, war s violence gives witness to a world
consuming itself as it lurches ever more closely to oblivion... As Chan states, war
allows the world to cave in and consume itself, and each day of fighting leads closer
to oblivion. The short story The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell
is a perfect representation of the monstrosity called war. Jarrell was an influential
and gifted writer who lived during WWII. One of his most famous pieces of writing,
Gunner, lurched the hearts of countless people around the country as they were able
to get a brief feeling of what it meant to be an aircraft gunner during this time. Within
this minute work of literature, are deep meanings waiting to be discovered. Within
Randall Jarrell s Gunner, there are three messages that can be derived. Within
Gunner, it is obvious that war was very unpleasant for the people fighting it. In the

Understanding The Brain s Physical Operation
Understanding the brain s physical operation is essential to frame the relationship
between brain and mind. The brain functions as a result of many complex processes;
however, Jeeves and Brown narrow the brain s activity into eight critical principles.
These principles provide a background necessary to deduce insightful information
from neuroscience s current research of the correlation between our mental lives and
brainsystems.
The first principle describes the PNS and CNS as action loops. An action loop is
equivalent to what physiologists describe as a regulatory feedback loop. A feedback
loop is composed of two nerve branches, an afferent (incoming) arm and an efferent
(outgoing) arm. Monitoring the two arms of the feedback loop is an integrating
center, which in most cases is the brain. Sensory information travels via the afferent
arm to the integrating center (brain), where the stimulus is evaluated. After
evaluation, the integrating center (brain) sends appropriate motor stimuli to specific
tissues within the body. Thus, an organism is always sensing and responding to its
local environment. From this principle, Jeeves and Brown suggest, Subjective
thought and cognition are derived from this action processing, including all the
complex levels involved in modulating ongoing action (Jeeves and Brown, 2009, p.
42). Hence, the first principle describes how humans constantly interact with the
environment around them. The second principle describes a nested hierarchy of
Toa Tora Movie Analysis
The film Tora! Tora! Tora! depicted somewhat of a bird s eye view of the events that
transpired prior to the notorious bombing attack on Pearl Harbor. It did so by
presenting back and forth scenarios of the planning within respective nations troops
and more or less the negotiations that contained a lot of tension between the Japanese
and the Americans. The film started off with the introduction of the admirals that
were assigned for each nation Admiral Isoroku Yamamotofor the Japanese Navy and
Admiral Husband E. Kimmel to be in command the United States Pacific Fleet
located in Pearl Harbor. Due to the Axis Alliance of Japan with Germany, Admiral
Isoroku Yamamoto, implies that the focal point of the United States Naval
operations at Pearl Harbor plays an important role and must first be destroyed for
the Japanese to further maximize their power in the Pacific. The Japanese were
well prepared with their excellent torpedo tactics that they have been relentlessly
practicing to gamble for the shallow Pearl Harbor. Meanwhile, In Washington,
Secretary of State Cordell Hull and Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson propose the
cooling of strategic relations with Japan after the bargain, however, some of the U.
S. military fear inevitable assault, they were right to fear such. This was probably
what provoked them to develop their operation magic wherein they used their latest
technology to crack the Japanese codes to get an idea of their plans. Meanwhile, at
Pearl Harbor, Gen.

C.The conflict between the dual citizens and the military are as follows.
1.There is controversy about of a dual citizen can serve in the armed forces.
2.This is again due to security requirements.
3.One argument is that a dual citizen could be communicating with the other country
they call home.

Analysis Of The American Association Of Nurses
The American Association of nurses, arises in the year 1896 at the hands of a group
of former students of nursing, and is in 1911, its name changed to the of Association
American of Nurses . (Cruz, 2009) It is an organization created to promote the rights
of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic image of nursing, and
to put pressure on Congress and regulatory agencies on healthissues affecting nurses
and the public. The mission statement of the ANA is that nurses must advance in
their profession to improve health for all. Despite the passing of the years this
association remains an important part of the profession, since more and more

Variable Selection Via Penalized Likelihood Plays An...
Variable selection via penalized likelihood plays an important role in statistics and
machine learning. In this paper, we first review some classical methods like AIC,
BIC, Mallow s Cp, then discuss some regularization methods including Lasso,
adaptive Lasso, elastic net, adaptive elastic net and group Lasso. We also consider
the application of regularization methods in generalized linear model, Cox s
model and time series analysis. At the end, we give suggestions for future work. 1
Classical Method The problem of variable selection is always the center of
statistical research. Some classical methods like best subset selection, forward
selection and backward elimination are proposed to handing massive data set.
These methods are basically based on the idea of grid search. For example, the
best subset selection searches the optimal model by all possible combination of the
predictors. The forward selection find the best model by adding one predictor at
each time, while the backward elimination finds the best model by removing one
predictor at each time. Although these methods are powerful and accurate, they also
cost a lot. For instance, suppose our model has 10 predictors, if we run the best
subset selection to get the optimal model, we need to compare 1024 combinations of
the predictors. It is unrealistic to perform such method in our real life because it time
consuming. As a result, more efficient methods to solve the problem of variable
selection are urgently desired. In

An Unidentified Shipwrecked Vessel Was Found Off The
Coast...
In 2004, an unidentified shipwrecked vessel was found off the coast of Alabama.
The wreck was discovered by the company Fathom Exploration, L.L.C., who then
claimed possession of the ship. The company further intended to salvage what it
could from the remains, and hoped to prevent others from salvaging in the same area.
The identity of the shipwas initially unknown, though it was believed to either be
the Amstel, a British vessel, or the Robert H. Dixey, a clipper ship. Because of
this, several parties filed claims over the area in question: those who claimed to
have a connection to the Dixey, and Fathom Exploration, LLC over the Amstel,
leading to the case titled Fathom Exploration, L.L.C.,Plaintiff, v. the Unidentified
Shipwrecked Vessel or Vessels that was decided in 2012. The ship was determined
not to be the Dixey; therefore, those who had placed claims of ownership under its
name did not have a valid platform to argue upon. However, Fathom still could not
assure its ownership of the wrecked vessel; based on the Abandoned ShipwreckAct of
1987, if evidence existed that the ship had been abandoned when it sank into
submerged waters of the United States, then the United States would hold title to the
shipwreck. Ultimately, the decision of the Court stated the plaintiff [was] ordered to
continue diligently performing the archival research and diving activities (CITE).
This particular case provides insight into how to handle situations where the identity

A Brief Note On The Aviation Safety Agency
With ICAO s leading, aviation safety has been developed internationally. As
mentioned before, FAA and ICAO worked together to provide safer operations in
the airports globally. ICAO published their Safety Management Manual(SMM) for
providing acceptable safety performance throughout the world. Civil aviation
authorities get benefit out of these manuals and shared data. SMS requirements
provided by ICAO paved a path for every aviation organization to develop safety
policies and safety procedures. In February 2009 European Aviation Safety
Agency(EASA) met with FAA, ICAO and Transport Canada Civil
Aviation(TCCA). The meeting was set to spread SMS throughout Europe and
America. Participants agreed on sharing SMS knowledge and established Safety
Management International Collaboration Group(SM ICG). SM ICG was set to
meet semiannually and also with teleconferences to develop SMS with projects and
research groups. Each organization works voluntarily for collaboration and
affiliation to spread SMS knowledge all over the world. During establishment of
SM ICG, it is agreed that there would be interference with stakeholders in the
aviation industry. It is also agreed that CAST and ECAST which is European
Commercial Aviation Safety Team would work collaboratively for more reliable data
sharing. The current core membership of the SM ICG includes the Aviation Safety
and Security Agency (AESA) of Spain, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC)

Customized Learning Theory Learning has been studied by numerous psychologist
and theories over the years by men and women around the world such as Jean Piaget,
Lev Vygotsky, and Lawrence Kohlberg. These theorists and psychologists studied
ways to improve teaching and motivating children in learning. The study on how
children are learning is important for both the teacher and the student. You shall teach
them diligently to your children, and shall talk to them when you sit in your house,
and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise
(Deuteronomy 6:7, English Standard Version, 2017). Teaching the children is the
responsibility as a Christian. As the time passes, it appears that these theories and
approaches to learning are revolutionized as well. The Bible is the most consistent
guidance in learning theory that never appears to change.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss necrotizing fasciitis and discuss its treatments
as well as practices that are currently being tested. This paper will also mention how
to prevent necrotizing fasciitis. Necrotizing fasciitis is a flesh eating disease that
attacks the subcutaneous layer of flesh. It is most common in patients with lowered
immune systems as well as preexisting chronic diseases. Treatments include prompt
surgery and debridement as well as the experiment hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
Necrotizing Fasciitis Treatment Current Event Paper
Necrotizing fasciitis is still a very real and very big problem even in 2016. It is a
rapidly progressive inflammatory infection of the fascia, with secondary necrosis of
the subcutaneous tissues (Edlich 2016). It commonly occurs as a complication from
surgery or an existing medical condition. The three most important bacteria to cause
necrotizing fasciitis are polymicrobial, group A streptococcal, and clostridial
myonecrosis. Cases of necrotizing fasciitis have been increasing in recent years due
to so much of the population being immunocompromised due to diseases or special
issues. These include but are not limited to diabetes mellitus, cancer, alcoholism,
vascular insufficiencies, organ transplants, HIV infection, or neutropenia (Edlich
2016). The most common age of patients is between 38 44 years with it rarely
A Greek Hero s Exile Essay

tribulations on exiled characters change their mental or physical attributes thus being
able to give aid to his or her community. The reasoning behind why the hero goes
through the strenuous process of exile varies. Several tales the hero s ability to deny
exile is possible, but they reject the option. They venture towards the option to better
further their renown, thus give to the community which they receive the most respect

The consumption of fast foods plays lots of roles on health. In the same vein,
nutritional habits acquired during adolescence have a significant impact in the short
and long term; these include irregular meals, snacking, eating away from home and
following other nutrition alternative dietary patterns which characterize the food
habits of young adults, arising from adolescence (Story et al,
2002). The concept of fast food eating has expanded into food sales in schools
(Arulogun and
Owolabi, 2011). For many students the day is not complete without observing the
daily ritual of visiting a fast food joint and most of the fast food restaurants in the
cities have began to open centers within and very close to schools especially
university campuses (Aladelokun, 2006;
Arulogun and Owolabi, 2011).Results of several studies suggests that fast foods may
be implicated in the cause of many chronic diseases which have a rising prevalence in
Nigeria and a long term implication on the health of the younger adolescents who
would grow up to become the productive economic force of the country, it is to this
end that this study assessed the pattern of consumption and the contribution of fast
foods to nutrient intake of undergraduates of the Federal University of

Compatibility Of Confucianism With The Rule Of Law
Question 8: Compatibility of Confucianism with the rule of law Introduction Since
the early days of man, different societies have had different mechanisms of dealing
with individual that go against accepted norms. These norms formed part of the basic
education mechanism that a society practised to in the past. Foreign practises were
however introduced during the colonial error when the colonial master imposed their
own conflict resolution system on the different society. After the assimilation of the
foreign system, researchers have now turned their attention to testing whether those
systems are compatible with the traditionally practised mechanism within a society.
A significant example of such a dilemma is on assessing whether Confucianism is
compatible with the rule of law. The two system represent societies that are different
and practised by individual that do not share any historical relationship. The growth
of an international community has led to the adaptation of the rule of law by most
if not all nations in the world. The paper seeks to find out whether Confucianism is
compatible with the rule of law and how the two systems can be adopted by a
society. In order to assess the possibility of compatibility, it is important to first
understand how the two system works individually. The analysis will involve the
assessment of the whole functionality of the two policies. Confucianism
Confucianism refers to the social, ethical and political teaching that were developed

Censorship in tryingtobecleverhere
In Silence of the Lambs , Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling are different
characters baring frightfully similar traits. Sexual discrimination and an ignorance of
others on their individual human complexities band these two characters together.
Lecter s serial killer image and Starling s innocent appearance due to her femininity
perpetrates these two characters as being outcasts in society. These factors along with
others, allows us to see such similarities, with Lecter portraying a father figure in
Starling s life. Due to societal perceptions and ostracization, similar childhood
experiences, and a strong look into the relationship they ... Show more content on

First and foremost, Hannibal Lecter shares similar qualities to characters such as
Norman Bates, Frankenstein, and King Kong. All of these characters behave
according their own natures, and in doing so, nothing that these characters do are
morally evil in any sense, but rather resulting circumstances of being entirely
misunderstood by society. In a strong sense, these characters can be connected to
the perception of mental illness, particularly within society during the turn of the
21st century. These characters are all held to certain expectations, however when
they are put in a situation where they are given a choice with their own free will,
nothing evil comes out of it. In fact, when King Kong was given the choice, he
chooses to rescue Fay Wray. Frankenstein is only a result of what one man in
society made him out to be while Norman Bates always made an effort to be alone,
but was left as an outcast who only wanted to adhere to his mother s wishes. He
battled within his own mind and consequentially, was neglected from the outside.
Lecter was seen by society as a mass serial killer, however when Starling treats him
as a human being instead of just a serial killer and does not put a damper on his vast
intelligence like others, Lecter makes his own willing attempt to help her. Similarly
to this, Clarice Starling wants to succeed in
Stereotypes In The Devil And Tom Walker
Worldly wealth is the devil s bait; and those whose minds feed upon riches recede,
in general, from real happiness, in proportion as their stores increase, as the moon,
when she is fullest, is farthest from the sun. This quote, written Robert Burton,
relates to the folktale that Washington Irving wrote. Irving s story, The Devil and
Tom Walker , is about a poor man who sold his soul to the devil to gain wealth over
night. Thus, the story The Devil and Tom Walker illustrates a folktale with the
inclusion of the folktale characteristics stereotypes, unlikely events, and lessons to be
learned. To begin, one of the reasons the The Devil and Tom Walker embodies a
folktale is due to the numerous stereotypes utilized in the story. Stereotyped... Show

Unlikely events are events that are not probable or likely to happen in everyday
life. Tom s first meeting with the devil is an unlikely event. The way that the devil
first appears is after Tom takes a walk through the forest and stops at an old fort to
explore its surroundings. When he comes across an old cloven skull, in which an
Indian Tomahawk was buried deep within. Tom kicks the skull and Irving writes
Humph! said Tom Walker, as he gave it a kick to shake the dirt from it. Let that
skull alone! said a gruff voice. Tom lifted up his eyes. and beheld a great black man
seated directly opposite him, on the stump of a tree. He was exceedingly surprised...
(2). To extend on this, the thought that a supernatural creature like the devil can
appear out of nowhere is an unlikely event. Continuing on, another unlikely event that
takes place in this short story is when the devil burns his thumbprint on Tom s
forehead as a signature. This can be a sign that the devil is leaving his mark with
Tom and the devil will always be apart of him. But the fact that a supernatural
creature can touch a human being a leave a mark is unlikely to ever happen. Those
are just a few of unlikely events that occur in The Devil and Tom

Extracurricular Activities Essay.pdf

  • 1. Extracurricular Activities Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of extracurricular activities can prove to be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not in the lack of information or personal experiences, but rather in the task of encapsulating the essence of one's involvement in these activities and conveying their significance effectively. The challenge arises in striking the right balance between showcasing personal growth, skills acquired, and the impact these activities have had on one's character. It requires thoughtful introspection to delve into the valuable lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the challenges overcome during these pursuits. Moreover, the essay demands a nuanced approach to avoid sounding generic or overly boastful. It necessitates the ability to articulate the specific ways in which participation in extracurricular activities has contributed to personal development and academic pursuits. This involves skillful storytelling, connecting diverse experiences into a coherent narrative that captures the reader's attention and leaves a lasting impression. On a deeper level, the challenge lies in navigating the fine line between humility and self- promotion. The essay must convey achievements and growth without coming across as arrogant or insincere. Balancing self-reflection with a genuine acknowledgment of the collaborative nature of extracurricular engagements is crucial. In conclusion, while the difficulty of writing an essay on extracurricular activities is present, it is also an opportunity for self-discovery and expression. Successfully navigating this challenge can result in a powerful and compelling narrative that not only fulfills the academic requirement but also provides a unique insight into the individual behind the words. If you find yourself in need of assistance with essays or other academic writing tasks, consider exploring HelpWriting.net. • 2. What Is The Stoichiometric Mixture In A Carburetor Any combustion engine needs air with fuel and heat. The carburetor allows the internal combustion engine to breath in the right mixture of air and fuel. This mixture consists of air and a fine spray of fuel flowing in rapid velocity. To understand how a carburetor works one must need to know how it prepares the stoichiometric mixture. Air first enters its intake. It sounds so simple until one realizes the pressure difference between the inside of the engine and the atmospheric pressure. The pressure inside a carburetor is low which allows it to suck air needed by the engine cylinders. This draft of air enters the venturi tube and creates a pressure drop in this area and main fuel jet. The decrease of air pressure in the jet creates a suction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand how it works one must recall how a person draws juice from its container. The pressure drops in the straw as air flows in a particular speed toward the person. It causes the juice to flow towards the mouth of the person. The same thing happens inside the fuel jet. The fuel will enter the venturi, as it does it expand to make a fine spray. It expands due to the change in the cross sectional area it transverse. What happens here is akin to what happens with a spray gun or a flexible hose. The liquid passes through a narrow pathway with a low fluid pressure and high fluid velocity. As it comes out the opening the fluid the pathway broadens; thus, its pressure rises and its velocity drops. The force it exerts on the side of the pathway causes it to expand once it s out the nozzle creating a fine spray. The fuel jet creates the same spray at the side of the venturi. This fine spray mixes with the air flowing into the venturi. As the mixture flows past the venturi the pressure rises and the fuel and air get better mixed in a wider cross section of the tube. The stoichiometric mixture would flow past the throttle valve and then enter the intake manifold of the

How defying it is that my most sacred creation has come to such a magnitude of miraculous thickness. As such in theory, I am receptive to every distasteful aspiration in minds that somehow function to ruminate. I envisioned you with a tenderness and passion like no other. • 4. Schindler s List Comparison The feature film Schindler s List was the movie adaptation of the novel, Schindler s Ark by Thomas Keneally. It was said that the story was told to the author by the Pfefferberg family, survivors and members of Schindler s Jews. This black and white docudrama was a fictional film that has a high degree of factuality. Steven Spieldberg s purpose of creating the movie in this fashion was to document the atrocities of the Holocaustof World War II, while giving the film a connection to the audience. THESIS Oskar Schindlerwas the hero of the tale, but he didn t start out that way. He was a businessman that looked for the easiest way to make a buck. He enlisted many others in his failed schemes along the way until he found a sure fire way to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These moments defined him as a businessman. They truly didn t touch him. His moment came during the cleansing of the ghetto. He was atop the hill looking down on all that lay beneath. The gun shots, the shouts and cries echoed for all to hear. And out of the darkness he saw a young girl in a red coat. This was the only color in the entire film. It was his pivotal moment. That young girl represented the innocence and the humanity that the Jewish people had been denied. The realization had dawned on Schindler as the full weight of the reality hit him. From that moment on during the film, Schindler was a changed man. His efforts to secure his people went from a purely economic standpoint, to a more altruistic motive. Schindler created the list in the film, although through the research of many it has been found that the full story isn t as cut and dried. The original list was created by Raimund Tisch, parts were edited, lost and recreated with substitutions. The quote by Itzak Stern The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its cramped margins lies the gulf, was the reality of this list. No matter the true creation origins, the list saved over a thousand
  • 5. Essay on Narrative Report on Vertigo Assignment 1: Narrative report on Vertigo Establishing the difference between the story and the plot allows one to determine the effect each element has on the understanding and interpretation of the piece. It also provides a way of tracking the continuation of events and the relationship between seemingly isolated moments in time. Film Art clearly defines both story and plot but acknowledges that there is a significant overlap between the two functions and allows a flow within the film. The plot is the presentation of the events, in chronological order and includes the events that are seen, inferred and assumed by the viewer as opposed to the story. The story refers to the way in which the plot is presented, the personality imposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opening scene introduces us to the person we later learn is John Scottie Ferguson, something that does not play out until much later in the film relates to the demonstration of the debilitating extent of Johns inability to act in the face of heights, once with the police officer and then with his love whom he cant stop because of his fear. The opening scene builds on the credits by creating the expectation of suspense and thrill and mystery shrouding the true identity and relation of characters and setting up the disposableness of characters in the film, this adds to the complexity of Madeline s disease as the audience cant tell whether, or more when, she will die. The rooftop chase creates an expectation of dark drama, which moves into the scene with Midge in a light filled room where Scottie appears to be in control of his fear and the relationship between the two characters is established, whilst not technically part of the opening scene it instantly makes the viewer question whether their interpretation of the initial segment of the film was correct, already one is questioning their ability to pick the direction of the film. In a sense, the closing scene is the exact opposite of the opening scene, scotty and Judy/Madeline are scaling the very stairs that rendered him
  • 6. Gender Roles Of Elementary Education Males in Elementary Education Chase Green English 1060 Dr. Monika Brown May 1, 2017 The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Males in Elementary Education Introduction The statistics for males in elementary education has not changed much in the last 20 years (Malaby, M., Ramsey, S. (2011)). Most of the cons about males in elementary education just come from stereotypes and society norms. Gender roles play a big part in male s decisions to become a teacher because of their image of being less masculine than others. There are plenty of reasons why males should consider elementary education such as benefits to the work place and children s growth as being a role model. Although it is not the norm for males to teach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Negative stereotypes such as that is what hurts males the most when trying to decide if they should pursue a job in the field. A con that prevents males from considering this profession would be pay. Jones (2013), wrote that males usually like to be the breadwinners in the family. The lack of pay would never allow the male to be the breadwinner in this profession. Malaby, M., Ramsey, S. (2011), says that males are underrepresented as elementary school teachers. One may ask, why pursue a degree in something that you aren t going to be given the credit you deserve? Even though the myth is that males should not get a degree in elementary education because they are not nurturing or patient, some research shows that male elementary teachers often body these traits and practices (Crisp, T., King, J. (2016)). Just like any other job, skills and traits come with experience. Gender Roles The norm of elementary education is that females work in this profession. The job is looked at as feminine which makes males not want to pursue a degree in this field because of what people think. Males that have a passion for teaching will not care what their friends, family, or anyone else has to say negative towards them for pursuing this degree. Most of the time males can not take the heat from people saying things about their masculinity. Montecinos, C., Neilson, L. (2004), talks about how people actually gets criticized by
  • 7. Lost Generation Jack Kerouac and Ernest Hemingway represent their inner state and feelings at the time they lived through their novels. Ernest Hemingway corresponds to the Lost Generation of 1920 s and Jack Kerouac corresponds to the Beat Generation of 1950 s. Both of these generations were after wars. It is not coincidence, wars make people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and pain through literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote songs, which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the most talented writers of our days. For us it seems that there was no big deal to write such openly, but if we try to go back to the time of these authors, we will understand how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I d just tromper you with everybody. You couldn t stand it (p.62). Jake is lost; he could not fully realize himself as a normal man. This problem means that he could not have sex, he could not marry, and finally he could not have a normal family with children. All of these problems made him get drunk often, as alcohol helped him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn asked him: Don t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? and he answers, Yes, every once in a while. (p.30). So, alcohol was an escape from his problems and he said: Under the wine I lost disgusted feeling and was happy (p.150). When he is drunk, life seems better and easier. But when he wakes up next morning, he regrets it, but he never tries to change his life, he just accepts it as it is. Hemingway presented Jake and Brett to portray people with lost believes and nothingness. Both of them accepted their lives as it was and did not try to change anything. Hemingway is not optimistic about the future, for him and his characters the meaning of life is lost. Similarly to Hemingway, Kerouac shows readers how people wanted to escape reality, as to forget about war young people traveled across the country in order to find the lost meaning of the life and have fun. Kerouac chooses a different path and describes the characters of the
  • 8. Capital Structure Of A Company II. INTRODUCTION Capital structure is the proportion of debt and equity in which a corporate finances its business. The capital structure of a company/firm plays a very important role in determining the value of a firm. There are various theories which propagate the ideal capital mix / capital structure for a firm. A corporate can finance its business mainly by 2 means i.e. debts and equity. However, the proportion of each of these could vary from business to business. A company can choose to have a structure which has 50% each of debt and equity or more of one and less of another. Capital structure is also referred to as financial leverage, which strictly means the proportion of debt or borrowed funds in the financing mix of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before this point, the marginal cost of debt is less than cost of equity and after this point vice versa. Traditional approach to capital structure advocates that there is a right combination of equity and debt in the capital structure, at which the market value of a firm is maximum. As per this approach, debt should exist in the capital structure only up to a specific point, beyond which, any increase in leverage would result in reduction in value of the firm. It means that there exists an optimum value of debt to equity ratio at which the WACC is the lowest and the market value of the firm is the highest. Once the firm crosses that optimum value of debt to equity ratio, the cost of equity rises to give a detrimental effect to the WACC. Above the threshold, the WACC increases and market value of the firm starts a downward movement. b. Modigliani Miller s Approach Modigliani and Miller, two professors in the 1950s, studied capital structure theory intensely. From their analysis, they developed the capital structure irrelevance proposition. Essentially, they hypothesized that in perfect markets, it does not matter what capital structure a company uses to finance its operations. They theorized that the market value of a firm is determined by its earning power and by the risk of its underlying assets, and that its value is independent of the way it chooses to finance its

Choosing inferior bulbs for the sake of saving a couple of dollars is a mistake you will quickly come to regret. If your car is designed for H1 bulbs, you should fit it with the best H1 bulbs you can find. What Is A H1 Bulb? The H1 headlight bulb can trace it s roots back to Europe, where it was first introduced in 1962. The first halogen lamp designed for use in cars and other automotive vehicles, the original H1 bulb proved to be a controversial invention. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that if you are replacing your headlights, you must purchase a total of four bulbs, a high and low model for either side. Headlight bulbs only equipped to release one beam are called single filament bulbs . Twin filament bulbs are designed to emit both low and high beams from a single source, so if your car requires twin filament bulbs, you ll only have to spend money on one bulb for each side. While this may seem more economical, the general consensus is that twin filament bulbs are nowhere near as powerful as their single filament counterparts. Single filament bulbs are far more common than twin filament models, with the latter being very rarely seen outside of H4 bulbs. H1 bulbs, if you haven t guessed it already, are single filament bulbs. That might come as a bit of a disappointment if you were hoping to keep costs to a minimum when replacing your headlights, but it can actually work out more economical in the long run. Because single filament bulbs offer a brighter and further reaching light, the risk of an accident is significantly lower than if you were lighting your way using twin filament bulbs. This means the chances of you having to repair certain parts of your car are significantly

Misconceptions About Sharks 1 Lots of people seem to have misconceptions about sharks; they re man eating killing machines, they re aggressive towards humans; they re unimportant to the ocean s ecosystem. I highly disagree with these notions. In fact, I believe sharks are one of the greatest animals on the planet. Despite the stigma surrounding sharksand their history in Hollywood movies (see: Jaws, Sharknado, Deep Blue Sea, etc), sharks actually aren t very aggressive towards humans at all. Statistics show that youhave approximately a 1 in 3,748,067 chance of being attacked by a sharkin your LIFETIME. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts say sharks rarely ever attack humans unprovoked. Sharks also investigate things by bumping it with their snout, or by putting it in their mouth. This is what causes hit and runs the shark takes a bite and disappears. This is because the shark realized you weren t prey, or that you even tasted good. Shark attacks are also uncommonly fatal. According to statistics, only about 7% of shark attacks end in death. The three species of shark that are the most common perpetrators behind shark attacks are: the bull shark, tiger shark and great white, in that order. This isn t to say that those particular species are more aggressive or dangerous than other species. Unlike, say, lemon sharks, bulls, tigers and great whites are more likely to encounter a human. Statistics show that beaches with more visitors each year have more shark attacks. For example, Florida sees around 90 million tourists each year, whereas North Carolina only gets about 50 million. • 15. The Development Of The Lowboy During the 1920s, the device known as the low boy was invented. The name was appropriate because it stood approximately one to two feet off the ground (2). Like the bass drum pedal, the low boy was a contraption that would be triggered by the foot. When it was triggered, it would bring two cymbals together to create a chink sound. Before this invention, drummers would accent certain points in the music by holding two cymbals together in one hand and creating the noise that way. Now, with this invention, a hand was freed, and the percussionist could use his hand to do other activities (2). The development of the lowboy also encouraged four way independence. Four way independence is the practice of having each limb on one s body play something different. This encouraged more syncopated rhythms which encouraged better music (2). As time went on, the lowboy slowly became taller and taller, and it soon developed into the hi hat cymbal. Steve Fidyk summed the evolution of this mechanism perfectly. The lowboy was elevated twice during its development. It grew into the sock cymbal, (approximately twenty inches tall), and eventually, the hi hat, as swing drummers like Chick Webb, Gene Krupa, Ray McKinley, and Jo Jones wanted the option of playing time on the cymbals with their hands. The invention of the low boy allowed for new styles of music to be invented. This means that more drum equipment needed to be invented! In New Orleans, drummers were experimenting with sticks.
  • 16. Nietzsche Overman Analysis Nietzsche s overman has the right to make promises because he, according to Nietzsche, is the only being who is able to keep those promises. For Nietzsche, an overman has the strength of character: the reliability and regularity to be able to make promises ( Second essay: Guilt , bad conscience and related matters 36). Nietzsche connects the would promise with the word responsibility, and the importance of that in a man who has the ability to make promises. Nietzsche refers to the ability to make promises as the mastering of free will, and he states how could a man who as mastered free will, how could he remain ignorant of his superiority over everybody who does not have the prerogative to promise or answer to himself ( Second essay: Guilt , bad conscience and related matters 37). This gives insight into the overman because if the overman is the only being who has the right to make promises, then they must also be an awareness, a conscience, of self. This ability to make and keep promises is not the only component of the overman s character though. The overman has a character of that is in charge of their own free will, and is free of the burden of bad conscience, and is not slave to ressentiment. The overman is a being of strength and not of weakness; the overman character must be strong as it has to overcome attacks from those who see strength as a negative. This base character is what allows the overman to not fall into the gripe of ressentiment and

America Vote Act ( Hava ) I was surprised to discover that voter identification began in 1950 when South Carolina became the first state to request some form of identification from voters at the polling precincts. Then Hawaii followed in 1970, Texas in 1971, Florida in 1977, and Alaska in 1980. Some of them asked for an ID with a photo, while others asked for any type of document with or without a photo; all provided other means for people to vote if they couldn t present identification. By 2000, fourteen states were asking for voter identification documents ( Voter ID ). That year, we had a highly disputed presidential election. Following its outcome, the United States Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) in 2002, which ushered in comprehensive election reform. Under the law, states are required to follow mandatory minimum standards that included implementing new programs and procedures such as provisional voting; voting information and voter education; upgraded, tested and certified voting technology; statewide voter registration list; voter identification procedures; and an improved election administration system ( Help America Vote Act ). The Commission on Federal Election Reform advocated similar propositions in their 2005 report (69 70). Consequently, voter ID laws were enacted around the country. However, due to the large volume of web resources and the dynamic nature of deep web, achieving wide coverage and high efficiency is a challenging issue. We propose a two stage framework, namely Smart Crawler, for efficient harvesting deep web interfaces. In the first stage, Smart Crawler performs site based searching for center pages with the help of search engines, avoiding visiting a large number of pages. To achieve more accurate results for a focused crawl, Smart Crawler ranks websites to prioritize highly relevant ones for a given topic. In the second stage, Smart Crawler achieves fast in site searching by excavating most relevant links with an adaptive link ranking. To eliminate bias on visiting some highly relevant links in hidden web directories, we design a link tree data structure to achieve wider coverage for a website. Introduction The deep (or hidden) web refers to the contents lie behind searchable web interfaces that cannot be indexed by searching engines. Based on extrapolations from a study done at University of California, Berkeley, it is estimated that the deep web contains approximately 91,850 terabytes and the surface web is only about 167 terabytes in 2003. More recent studies estimated that 1.9 zettabytes were reached and 0.3 zettabytes were consumed worldwide in 2007. An IDC report estimates that the total of all

In Chapter Seventeen of the novel, Steinbeck discusses what life is like generally for migrant families as they journey out west. It becomes the norm for families to set up camp each night with other families and share their food and experiences. The concept in EBB s sonnet of ideal love transforming individuals is similarly interpreted through the characterisation of Gatz into Gatsby. The obsessive love to own Daisy highlights the idea that this power of love can only exist in the Jazz Age. Gatsby s idealised love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly evident in the dialogue her voice is full of money . Despite the relatively low rates of utilization by state and non state actors today, the risk posed by CBRN weapons is too high for security organs to simply ignore. A principal incentive for CBRN terrorism across the world is its ability to disrupt entire state sectors and cause widespread contamination. As a result, it is important to study a nation s vulnerability to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terrorism. Research Question 1.What is the relationship between the rate of proliferation of CBRN weapons and the country s vulnerability to CBRN terrorism? Research Hypotheses 1.The rate of proliferation of CBRN weapons has a direct impact on the country s vulnerability to CBRN terrorism. 2.There is a correlation between the nature of terrorist groups and a country s level of vulnerability to CBRN

This terrible epidemic is known all over the world for it s deadly and unique characteristics. The diffusion, history, and cure are just a couple universal aspects that contribute to the well known, yet unforgiving disease known as the Bubonic Plague. The Bubonic Plague diffused to many people during its time of dominance. To start, the Bubonic Plague is transmitted to other living organisms in a distinct way. The plague bacteria circulates among different populations of certain rodents without causing an excessive amount of rodent die off ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ). When the bacteria finishes off the last of the rodent population the fleas are forced to turn on to humans (Benedictow). After three days of fasting the hungry rat fleas will do anything for the smell and taste of fresh human blood (Benedictow). Once the plague bacteria makes its way into the human society everything goes downhill from there. The plague bacteria is most often transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected flea ( Centers for Disease control and Prevention ). Also people can become infected when handling the tissue or body fluids of a plague infected animal ( Centers for Disease control and Prevention ). Not only were the rat fleas involved in transmitting the disease, but also our own kind were a key contributor to the transmission of this deadly disease. Without even knowing, the black death

The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner Analysis War Does Evil A Discussion of Three Messages From Randall Jarrell s Gunner There was not a point in this world s history when war was more prevalent, than that of World War Two. During this time, millions of innocent lives were slain, and millions of soldiers died fighting, but were replaced almost instantly. War completely manipulates the human mind, allowing it to commit actions no mind would ever think to conceive otherwise. War takes over the will of humanity, and brings out the ferocity that all humans have boiled down inside them. For example, journalist Roy Bing Chan recites, On one hand, war s violence gives witness to a world consuming itself as it lurches ever more closely to oblivion... As Chan states, war allows the world to cave in and consume itself, and each day of fighting leads closer to oblivion. The short story The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell is a perfect representation of the monstrosity called war. Jarrell was an influential and gifted writer who lived during WWII. One of his most famous pieces of writing, Gunner, lurched the hearts of countless people around the country as they were able to get a brief feeling of what it meant to be an aircraft gunner during this time. Within this minute work of literature, are deep meanings waiting to be discovered. Within Randall Jarrell s Gunner, there are three messages that can be derived. Within Gunner, it is obvious that war was very unpleasant for the people fighting it. In the

  • 39. Understanding The Brain s Physical Operation Understanding the brain s physical operation is essential to frame the relationship between brain and mind. The brain functions as a result of many complex processes; however, Jeeves and Brown narrow the brain s activity into eight critical principles. These principles provide a background necessary to deduce insightful information from neuroscience s current research of the correlation between our mental lives and brainsystems. The first principle describes the PNS and CNS as action loops. An action loop is equivalent to what physiologists describe as a regulatory feedback loop. A feedback loop is composed of two nerve branches, an afferent (incoming) arm and an efferent (outgoing) arm. Monitoring the two arms of the feedback loop is an integrating center, which in most cases is the brain. Sensory information travels via the afferent arm to the integrating center (brain), where the stimulus is evaluated. After evaluation, the integrating center (brain) sends appropriate motor stimuli to specific tissues within the body. Thus, an organism is always sensing and responding to its local environment. From this principle, Jeeves and Brown suggest, Subjective thought and cognition are derived from this action processing, including all the complex levels involved in modulating ongoing action (Jeeves and Brown, 2009, p. 42). Hence, the first principle describes how humans constantly interact with the environment around them. The second principle describes a nested hierarchy of

In this paper, we first review some classical methods like AIC, BIC, Mallow s Cp, then discuss some regularization methods including Lasso, adaptive Lasso, elastic net, adaptive elastic net and group Lasso. We also consider the application of regularization methods in generalized linear model, Cox s model and time series analysis. At the end, we give suggestions for future work. 1 Classical Method The problem of variable selection is always the center of statistical research. Some classical methods like best subset selection, forward selection and backward elimination are proposed to handing massive data set. These methods are basically based on the idea of grid search. For example, the best subset selection searches the optimal model by all possible combination of the predictors. The forward selection find the best model by adding one predictor at each time, while the backward elimination finds the best model by removing one predictor at each time. Although these methods are powerful and accurate, they also cost a lot. For instance, suppose our model has 10 predictors, if we run the best subset selection to get the optimal model, we need to compare 1024 combinations of the predictors. It is unrealistic to perform such method in our real life because it time consuming. As a result, more efficient methods to solve the problem of variable selection are urgently desired. In

The wreck was discovered by the company Fathom Exploration, L.L.C., who then claimed possession of the ship. The company further intended to salvage what it could from the remains, and hoped to prevent others from salvaging in the same area. The identity of the shipwas initially unknown, though it was believed to either be the Amstel, a British vessel, or the Robert H. Dixey, a clipper ship. Because of this, several parties filed claims over the area in question: those who claimed to have a connection to the Dixey, and Fathom Exploration, LLC over the Amstel, leading to the case titled Fathom Exploration, L.L.C.,Plaintiff, v. the Unidentified Shipwrecked Vessel or Vessels that was decided in 2012. The ship was determined not to be the Dixey; therefore, those who had placed claims of ownership under its name did not have a valid platform to argue upon. However, Fathom still could not assure its ownership of the wrecked vessel; based on the Abandoned ShipwreckAct of 1987, if evidence existed that the ship had been abandoned when it sank into submerged waters of the United States, then the United States would hold title to the shipwreck. Ultimately, the decision of the Court stated the plaintiff [was] ordered to continue diligently performing the archival research and diving activities (CITE). After the assimilation of the foreign system, researchers have now turned their attention to testing whether those systems are compatible with the traditionally practised mechanism within a society. A significant example of such a dilemma is on assessing whether Confucianism is compatible with the rule of law. The two system represent societies that are different and practised by individual that do not share any historical relationship. The growth of an international community has led to the adaptation of the rule of law by most if not all nations in the world. The paper seeks to find out whether Confucianism is compatible with the rule of law and how the two systems can be adopted by a society. In order to assess the possibility of compatibility, it is important to first understand how the two system works individually. The analysis will involve the assessment of the whole functionality of the two policies. Confucianism Confucianism refers to the social, ethical and political teaching that were developed

Sexual discrimination and an ignorance of others on their individual human complexities band these two characters together. Lecter s serial killer image and Starling s innocent appearance due to her femininity perpetrates these two characters as being outcasts in society. First and foremost, Hannibal Lecter shares similar qualities to characters such as Norman Bates, Frankenstein, and King Kong. All of these characters behave according their own natures, and in doing so, nothing that these characters do are morally evil in any sense, but rather resulting circumstances of being entirely misunderstood by society. In a strong sense, these characters can be connected to the perception of mental illness, particularly within society during the turn of the 21st century. These characters are all held to certain expectations, however when they are put in a situation where they are given a choice with their own free will, nothing evil comes out of it. In fact, when King Kong was given the choice, he chooses to rescue Fay Wray. Frankenstein is only a result of what one man in society made him out to be while Norman Bates always made an effort to be alone, but was left as an outcast who only wanted to adhere to his mother s wishes. He battled within his own mind and consequentially, was neglected from the outside. Lecter was seen by society as a mass serial killer, however when Starling treats him as a human being instead of just a serial killer and does not put a damper on his vast intelligence like others, Lecter makes his own willing attempt to help her. Similarly to this, Clarice Starling wants to succeed in

Stereotypes In The Devil And Tom Walker Worldly wealth is the devil s bait; and those whose minds feed upon riches recede, in general, from real happiness, in proportion as their stores increase, as the moon, when she is fullest, is farthest from the sun. This quote, written Robert Burton, relates to the folktale that Washington Irving wrote. Irving s story, The Devil and Tom Walker , is about a poor man who sold his soul to the devil to gain wealth over night. Thus, the story The Devil and Tom Walker illustrates a folktale with the inclusion of the folktale characteristics stereotypes, unlikely events, and lessons to be learned. To begin, one of the reasons the The Devil and Tom Walker embodies a folktale is due to the numerous stereotypes utilized in the story. Stereotyped... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlikely events are events that are not probable or likely to happen in everyday life. Tom s first meeting with the devil is an unlikely event. The way that the devil first appears is after Tom takes a walk through the forest and stops at an old fort to explore its surroundings. When he comes across an old cloven skull, in which an Indian Tomahawk was buried deep within. Tom kicks the skull and Irving writes Humph! said Tom Walker, as he gave it a kick to shake the dirt from it. Let that skull alone! said a gruff voice. Tom lifted up his eyes. and beheld a great black man seated directly opposite him, on the stump of a tree. He was exceedingly surprised... (2). To extend on this, the thought that a supernatural creature like the devil can appear out of nowhere is an unlikely event. Continuing on, another unlikely event that takes place in this short story is when the devil burns his thumbprint on Tom s forehead as a signature. This can be a sign that the devil is leaving his mark with Tom and the devil will always be apart of him. But the fact that a supernatural creature can touch a human being a leave a mark is unlikely to ever happen. Those are just a few of unlikely events that occur in The Devil and Tom
