Harlem Renaissance Essays
Crafting an essay on the Harlem Renaissance can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor.
The difficulty lies not only in the need for a comprehensive understanding of the historical and
cultural context but also in capturing the essence of a period marked by a vibrant artistic and
intellectual reawakening.
The Harlem Renaissance, a pivotal moment in American history, demands meticulous research to
delve into the nuances of its socio-political landscape, the prominent figures who shaped it, and
the profound impact it had on various art forms. The challenge intensifies as one strives to
articulate the significance of this movement in fostering African American identity and fostering
a cultural revolution.
Moreover, weaving a coherent narrative requires a delicate balance between historical analysis
and literary exploration. Addressing the diverse artistic expressions, from literature and music to
visual arts, adds complexity to the task. An effective essay on the Harlem Renaissance should
not only showcase the achievements and contributions but also delve into the challenges and
controversies that accompanied this period of cultural rebirth.
Navigating through the myriad of perspectives and scholarly debates surrounding the Harlem
Renaissance requires a keen analytical mind and the ability to synthesize information effectively.
The writer must thread the needle between presenting a well-researched, academic argument and
infusing the essay with the creative spirit that defined the era.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on the Harlem Renaissance demands dedication, intellectual
rigor, and a passion for capturing the essence of a transformative cultural movement. The process
involves an intricate dance between historical analysis and artistic appreciation. Despite its
challenges, the exploration of this rich and dynamic topic can be an intellectually fulfilling
journey for those willing to embark on it.

Movie Theater And Choosing A Seat
1.When walking into a movie theater and choosing a seat, the appropriate interval
all depends on how full the theater is. When a person pays for a movie ticket, they
understand the possibility of not receiving the ideal seating. Most movie theaters
operate on a first come first served basis. In my estimation, the appropriate spacing
between people at a movie theateris one seat. I don t have a problem sitting next to a
stranger in a movie theater with one seat separating us. I understand sometimes
sitting next to a stranger in inevitable, I have had to do it many times. Movie theaters
become very dark once the movie starts, which causes people to feel uncomfortable
because they are vulnerable without sight.

Most people are not going to be able to experience wizard magic, space, or getting
stuck on a sinking ship. A lesson can be learned from any situation, whether it s
what to do, or not to do. Another positive is that movies teach diversity. These
popular commercial films are full of different ideas, people, and elements. When
people watch diverse movies, it allows them to become more open and accepting in
our everyday lives.
A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and
teens have seen these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to
emulate these actions. Young minds are malleable, which could lead to different
problems in the future of these young people. Another negative aspect of these
movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good thing because
people need breaks sometimes, but we can t be distracted all of the time. If we had
a choice between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most
people would probably choose to be somewhere else mentally.
3. I chose the very beginning of the Bourne Identity (2002) to look for camera
techniques because this portion of the film will be the first seen by the viewers. In the
opening scene the viewer is underwater looking up at Jason Bourne floating on the
surface of the ocean. I feel this camera angle was employed by the filmmaker to
show the audience that Jason Bourne is not a bad guy. We do not know who Jason is at
The Effects Of A Living Wage And Why Profitable...
In a perfect world, everyone would be equal. Children would not go to school
hungry and people would not find shelter under a raggedy cardboard box.
Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect. We need to accept that life is not fair.
People are constantly in the news because they cannot afford to live a healthy and
safe life. The government is constantly discussing whether a living wage would
help individuals living conditions. In this persuasive essay, I discuss the effects of
a living wage and why profitable organisations should not be required to pay them.
A living wage is generally calculated on a family of four, based on the notion that
people working at full time jobs, and their families, should not have to live in
poverty, (Devinatz, 2013). For the purpose of this essay, I assume a profitable
organisation is an organisation that makes continuous yearly profit. A living wage
would not change the state of this economy, instead it would create a negative
impact and create new problems to solve. Discussed in this essay, is the impact a
living wage would have on living costs, unemployment rate, the education index,
youth employment and crime rates. It is also discusses the change in value of
money with a living wage and the basic idea of living. Profitable organisations will
want to increase income to offset the increase in wages, if a living wage is put in
place. The main way organisations can increase income is by increasing the mark up
on goods and services, so

Analysis of Opening Sequence of Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan , directed by internationally acclaimed director Steven
Spielberg, was the winner of five academy awards in 1998 which included best
director, cinematography and film editing. The opening sequence begins with World
War 1 s historic D Day invasion of Omahabeach in June 6th 1944. In this essay I
will analyse how Spielberg uses various techniques to evoke sympathy and shock the
viewer, captures the reality of combat without ever glorifying war itself.
Spielberg used variety of camera shots including close up, medium shot, long shot,
wide angle shot and high angle shot. He used the hand held camera which gives a ...

This long shot allows the viewer see a lot more sceneries and see a lot of action.
Spielberg also uses an underwater camera which gives a great effect and it makes
the scene more realistic, we hear the sound of bullets fizzing through the water and
hitting soldiers and witness their blood getting mixed with the sea. The horror of war
is inescapable, even under the sea
He also uses variety angle shots like Wide Angle shots, High Angle shots and Low
Angle shots. Wide Angle shot is what is known as panoramic view and that gives a
lot of action to us. Wide angle shot gives us simple a wide view, so that we can see
lot more scenes and soldiers than in a normal medium frame.
Saving Private Ryan has many poignant scenes in the first twenty minutes of the
film. The first poignant scene is when soldiers jumped into the water from landing
craft and already 10 15 soldiers are killed in 3 4 seconds. This is how easily can
soldiers can get killed in war and they probably know that 5 or 10 soldiers are going
to get killed at this stage but they still fight.
More than 2,000 U.S service men died in the D Day landing. Spielberg also shows us
how men can be cruel in war. For example a German soldier is depicted in fire and
an American G.I says Don t shoot him! Let him burn! This seems very
Memory- A ToK Essay
Memory
Memory like liberty is a fragile thing Elizabeth Loftus. What does this statement
suggest about memory as a way of knowing in the pursuit of ethical knowledge?
Loftus suggests that memory, like liberty (i.e. freedom), is something that can easily
be manipulated due to its delicate nature. The title assumes that we can recall on past
events in order to draw reasonable conclusions surrounding ethical issues. In order to
understand the question raised in the title more easily it could be rephrased as
follows; Is memory a reliable way of knowing when drawing conclusions based on
ethical matters? . There are weaknesses when looking at only one way of knowing
because it prevents us from having a comprehensive understanding of ... Show more

An example of this would be the Lost In The Mall study; subjects were given
narratives of events from their childhood, provided by family members. But, one
of these narratives was a fictional story of how they got lost in a mall as a child.
Because they were told repeatedly in a very convincing manner that these events
really did happen, 25% of participants were able to remember the false event, i.e.
they believed a delusion. This proves just how easily memories can be influenced
and changed, and so makes me believe that using memory alone as a way of knowing
is an inadequate method in which to judge ethical issues.
This title led me to develop me own knowledge question:
Is memory an accurate way of knowing when looking at events of the past?
The Survival School Interrogation study explains clearly why I believe that memory
is an inadequate way of knowing when looking at past events. US soldiers were
subjected to abusive interrogation techniques and afterwards were asked to identify
their interrogator. However, they were asked misleading questions about their
interrogator s appearance (e.g. He was the man with the beard, wasn t he? ) and so
over 50% of the soldiers falsely identified the interrogator (false identification). This
is because the soldiers felt subjected to normative conformity. They wanted to fit in
with what was being suggested to them by their peers and so, perhaps knowingly,

SUBJECT:Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111)
This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil
and gas field properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas
Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil
and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a shortage of available oil. In
addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly waning.
Currently, the industry grosses among the most profitable in the US despite these and
similar obstacles. The benefits of investing here ... Show more content on

New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry
(Hersch, 2012). Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration
and discovery for oil and gas resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in
this role due to the limited nature of resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal
decline. Most major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field,
Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy
Information Administration indicates much production, particularly in the Alaskan
North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists and
politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year
in which US peak oil occurred.
International Comparison
In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction
Industry faces heavy foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil
production, behind Saudi Arabia and Russia (Energy, 2012). Saudi Arabia s OPEC
governor expects Saudi output to rise steadily beyond 2030 with a 1.5 million barrel
per day spare production capacity then (Energy, 2012). Russia holds the world s

Fundamental Analysis Ever hear someone say that a company has strong
fundamentals ? The phrase is so overused that it s become somewhat of a clichГ©.
Any analyst can refer to a company s fundamentals without actually saying
anything meaningful. So here we define exactly what fundamentals are, how and
why they are analyzed, and why fundamental analysis is often a great starting point
to picking good companies. The Theory Doing basic fundamental valuation is
quite straightforward; all it takes is a little time and energy. The goal of analyzing
a company s fundamentals is to find a stock s intrinsic value, a fancy term for what
you believe a stock is really worth as opposed to the value at which it is being traded
in the marketplace. If the intrinsic value is more than the current share price, your
analysis is showing that the stock is worth more than its price and that it makes sense
How The Collapse Of Our Agriculture Effects The Entire
World
Eating Fossil Fuels made me realize how lazy our country is in general. Many things
we consume today are eating away our insides without even knowing. This book
provided efficient evidence to our failing food market, oil industry, population
overcrowding, etc. Additionally, I realized how the collapse of our agricultureeffects
the entire world, and how no one seems to care about it. I will explain how certain
circumstances relate to my life and add opinions to certain sections of the book that
caught my eye.
As our global population reaches 50% urban, there is an urgent need to return food,
fiber and materials production to the cities. The U.S urban population is currently
highly food insecure due to a lack of local food production and networks Personally,
this is a huge issue that needs to be addressed. As the population is rising, the
country needs to have facilities efficiently producing enough food to feed the areas.
This quote given in the introduction opened my eyes to harsh reality. It states We are
dependent on the energy of oil and natural gas to seed our crops, maintain them,
harvest them, process them, and transport them to market. What happens when Oil
is gone? What are our alternative options? Food process and distribution relies
strictly from oil. We ve known for years that oil is running low and we still have yet
to figure out an efficient substitute. Adding into this topic Hunger is not caused from
lack of food, but from a lack of access to food. That

Advantages Of Viral Marketing
INTRODUCTION
Technology and information have growing rapidly in recent decades led to the
increasing number of new media that support the means to communicate. It is
considered as a new era of communication and information. The massive scale of
development gradually continued to be used by many parties, especially in the
process of dissemination of information via internet. Everyone use the internet to
distribute information and news to other people. The phenomenon of Internet usage
is evidenced by the increasing number of internet users in the world, especially in
developing countries. Based on data obtained from the International
Telecommunications Union (ITU), the internet user in the developing countries is

Then, according to Dahan (2012) quoted by Snyder (2004), viral marketing is a type
of word of mouth marketing technique used on the internet . Viral marketing can
encourage customers to communicate with each other in order to offer product or
brand under consideration. Viral marketing concept, which was first used by Steve
Jurvetson and Tim Draper, is defined as a word of mouth marketing technique used
in relation to a brand, product or service similar to the spread of viruses on social
networks on electronic media (Comet, 2006; Dahan, 2012; cited in Akyol, 2013). In
conclusion, viral marketing can be defined as a word of mouth marketing technique
that use internet as a social networks media to spread information related to our
products or brands.
Viral marketing is different with other marketing strategies. The difference is that it
has an authentic content that provokes individuals. Individuals share this creative
content due to its authenticity on electronic social networks and thus, this content
reaches millions of people by being communicated from one individual to another
on social networks (Wilson, 2005; cited in Dahan, 2012). This content, which
spreads like a virus very fast from one individual to another, increases awareness
even if it does not affect the sales of the related brand, product or service instantly

castration Essay
Should Chemical Castration be performed on Sex Offenders?
Okay suppose your five year old daughter was brutally attacked and raped by a
known sex offender, would you rather the offender to be sentenced to a few years in
prison, only to get out and destroy another innocent victim s life or have them
chemically castrated? Chemical castration is the process of injecting male sex
offenders female hormones to eliminate their sex drive. Honestly until someone is in
the position; how can they say that it should or should not be performed on these
offenders.

According to Justice Minister John Hatzistergos, Chemical castrations is nonsense
and does not work properly because it only treats the physical urge . However, for
94.7% of treated heterosexuals to have no repeat offenses in 17 years is
substantial. An article in the Crime Times a study in Germany compared 99
surgically castrated individuals and 35 non castrated individuals for 10 years after
release. The recidivism rate for the castrated men was 3% compared to 46% non
castrated men. These are VERY substantial numbers and even though surgical
castration is more severe the end results for chemical vs. surgical are very similar,
and a very good argument can be made for the humanity of chemical castration. The
researchers report that all of their subjects showed marked reductions in outward
directed anger during the experiment, while half exhibited reductions in anxiety and
sexual desire. This suggests, they say, quot;Measures of outward directed anger are
most sensitive to small reductions in circulating testosterone concentrations. quot; In
some states, prisoners have begged the states to chemically castrate them with the
states actually refusing. In Texas, Larry Don McQuay begged the state to give him
the drug stating that he had molested some 200 children and would do it again if he
were released. Johns Hopkins University found a recidivism rate of 65%

Sports and Play: The
African Americans And The Civil Rights Activists Like Dr....
The truth is that which needs to be told, and true creation is that which needs to be
created and what we need to create is Black images which speak to and inspire
Black people stated in Documents from the Black Arts Movement (Karenga). This
statement speaks truth to how African Americans felt in the 1960s and still today.
Many great Civil Rights activists like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X
wanted to set examples including being the voice of African Americans because
many were silent about the injustice they endured from white Americans. Blacks felt
that having artists of their own kind to relate to would be a sign of freedom a starting
point to be equal to white Americans. This included black artists in music, acting, and
poetry.
After the 1980s blacks had finally made their own identities which were
recognized through their talents. While creating black studies and preferring to be
called African Americans instead of derogatory names such as a Nigger or
Negroes. However, music symbolizes the younger generations in the 1960s,
especially Hip Hop and Rap music. Hip Hop gives blacks authentic music they can
relate to with the lyrics and their everyday life struggles. It also conveys attitudes in
a specific art form. Rap music defines the artist s character and allow them to speak
from their hearts with passion. This music gives a voice to the poor, oppressed and
younger youth against harassment while portraying the image of black people in
poverty. Many

Me, Myself, and My Body
The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical
aspects of the brain. For years, philosophers have been perplexed by the mind body
problem. The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the
physical aspects of the brain. The mind body problem discusses the mind and body,
along with the relationship between them. Dualists and monists are the two types of
people that take a stand on the issue. While Dualism may spilt mind and body,
monism is the belief that the mind and body are together one. Each of these beliefs
can be broken down into types, justifying monism or dualism. Though each have been
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other side of dualism is interaction. Interaction is the way the mind and body
interact among each other, so the three variations of this are interactionism,
epiphenomenalism, and parallelism. Interactionism is where one believes that the
mind and body influence one another. Next, epiphenomenalism dictates that mental
occurrences are caused by physical ones, but have no influence on the physical. Now
parallelism is different because it shares the view that both mental and physical states
are not casually interacting, yet running in harmony with it. These are all the
different types of dualism that have been theorized to this day.
Many philosophers justify why dualism is the right theory behind the mind body
problem. However, there are others that believe monism is the ideal theory towards
the question. Monism is the view that the mind and body are essentially one. Within
monism there are several different types; idealistic monism, materialistic monism,
neutral monism, reflexive monism, substantial monism, attributive monism, and
absolute monism. To begin, the idealistic monism view is one that shows the mind
being all that exists and that everything else is simply a part of one s mental
depiction. Materialistic monism on the other hand is the complete opposite in that it
holds that only the physical is real and the mind is reduced to the physical. More

The Best Death Ever
The Best Death Ever Niall Griffiths
By Christian Steenfeldt, 3.U
Children cannot differentiate between what is fun and what is serious. In the short
story The Best Death Ever by Niall Griffiths four boys are playing a game where
they have to fake a death. The boy whoever fakes the best death wins the game. The
four boys do not understand what they are doing and see the game, The Best Death
Ever, as a fun game. Until one moment, when one of the boys misjudges the distance
to ground and almost hang himself meanwhile his friends where shooting at him with
their toy guns.
The story is narrated by a first person narrator who looks back at a specific incidence.

The story is a flashback of roughly 45 60 minutes of his life. The narrator looks back
at that special episode of his life and he turns all nostalgic.
The boys are strongly inspired by war movies and war stories told by the elderlies.
The narrator has received a toy gun from his granddad. He knows a lot about it
because of his big interest in war. As almost every other boy, they playgames with
guns and death involved. The problem is not that the boys play war, but that they
cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin almost killed
himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she
immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she
punishes him for something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry,
because they have to award Gavin the price of the best death.
I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never
played the game again.
Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not
understand consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he
wants to put even more violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the
game again, because nobody knows what would have happened then.
This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is
highly necessary. If you do not teach your kid what is dangerous and what is not, it
will have serious consequences. As in
Organized Being in Kant’s Groundwork for the
Metaphysics...
Kant s argument that good will is the supreme purpose of man s existence based on
observations of the influence that reason exerts on the will is inconsistent with what
may be observed in nature. It presupposes an intentional cosmos wherein an
organized being s purpose, and thus its standard of value, can be extracted from an
examination of its constitution and faculties. While this presupposition is logically
consistent with the rest of Kant s moral theory it does not coincide with what we can
actually observe in nature. The following essay will examine, one, the idea of an
organized being, secondly, why Kant proposes it, then we will contrast this idea with
what we observe, and finally, analyse the extent of the harm done to the... Show more

Kant proposes that the distinction of purposes between reason and instinct is apparent
because if man s sole purpose was his own well being then the only factor that nature
would allow to leverage his will would be instinct, the desires and inclinations thereof
being entirely sufficient for that end. However, that man must have some other
purpose beyond his own happiness is evident from the influence that reason exerts on
the will. If man s object were his happiness alone then should reason have been
communicated to this favoured creature ...it must only have served it to contemplate
the happy constitution of its nature...but not that it should subject its desires to that
weak and delusive guidance and meddle bunglingly with the purpose of nature. (6)
Reason, in Kant s view, could not have been intended by nature as an auxiliary for
enhancing man s pursuit of happiness. He points out his observation that those who
attempt to employ reason in pursuit of this end often achieve results contrary to it.
So long as we do not doubt the capacity of reason to compel man to set aside his
inclinations we must also accept that nature has intended him for a secondary purpose
as well. Otherwise, Nature would not only have taken on herself the choice of the
ends, but

dignity in poverty and bureaucratic indifference. Antonio Ricci is a bill poster whose

Renowned British writer, William Shakespeare, in one of his most popular works,
Hamlet, chronicles the growing suspicion and the eventual fatal confrontation
between uncle and nephew. Within the first few pages, such contention is made
apparent through the interactions between the two and Hamlet s disclosure of his
attitude regarding his uncle. He declares, Tis an unweeded garden that grows to seed.
Things rank and gross in nature possess it merely, in an effort to characterize
Claudius as the weed that will infiltrate and destruct the garden, or rather Denmark
(Shakespeare 1.2.135 137). Through an emphasis on Hamlets distrust of and
contempt for his uncle, as well as offerings of comparisons between Old Hamlet
and Claudius, Shakespeare alludes to the aforementioned statement as being a
metaphor for Denmark s well being in the hands of Claudius. Shakespeare s
depiction of the relationship between Hamlet and Claudius aids him in implying
that his statement refers to Claudius impact on Denmark, rather than a more literal
account of a garden. The first instance the two share a scene, it is clear that Hamlet
does not appreciate what Claudius undoubtedly believes to be words of wisdom.
Hamlet s father died less than two months prior to the beginning of the story, yet
Claudius insists, But to persever in obstinate condolement is a course of impious
stubbornness; tis unmanly grief. It shows a will most incorrect to heaven...
(Shakespeare 1.2.92 95). Here, Claudius displays a lack of sympathy for Hamlet s
grief, which both fuels Hamlet s dislike of him and initiates his lack of trust, for
Hamlet undeniably views Claudius absence of grief as an alarming oddity. Hamlet
later laments about how quickly his uncle wed his mother: Within a month, ere yet
the salt of most unrighteous tears had left the flushing in her gallГЁd eyes, she
married (Shakespeare 1.2.153 156). This untimely union again highlights Claudius
lack of sorrow, for less than a month after his brother s death, he chose to marry
Gertrude. Hamlet s anger is a result of his mother s ill timed remarriage, but it is a
product of Claudius insensitive involvement in it as well. Furthermore, although
Hamlet does not directly come to this conclusion,
Icarus Metamorphosis
Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view
to the lesson learned from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the
myth, Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in defying the Gods and ignoring his
father s instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his wings
melting and falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their
elders and live within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the
lesson to be learned from Icarusadventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that
Icarus success was his fearless flight and that if he didn t take the risk of flying too
close to the burning light of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of
them all. He believes that the adventures and risks we take in life are what make
life worth living, and that a life lived that does not experience the thrills of risk,
adventure, and possibly success, even for just a moment, is a life not well lived. In
a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is needed to do amazing things. The arrogance
to ignore the risks may result in great successes, and if you try hard and don t
succeed, then even the brave attempt is success. The only failure or tragedy is not to
try at all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Buck v. Bell: State Eugenics
On May 2, 1927, the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 8 to 1, decided the case of
Buck v. Bell. This decision gave affirmation to the constitutionality of Virginia s law
which allowed state enforced sterilization and determined that compulsory
sterilization laws did not violate due process given by the 14th Amendment to the
U.S. Constitution. This decision established the legal authority for sterilizing a toll
of U.S. citizens that would grow to more than 60,000 in over thirty states until as
late as the 1970 s. Carrie Elizabeth Buck, who would end up being the appellant in
this case, was born on July 2, 1906, in Charlottesville, ... Show more content on

Bell s sterilization of Buck relied on a false diagnosis which could have come about
through the embarrassment and the shame that was brought upon her adopted family
as a result of the rape. There was also testimony from doctors and other officials at
the time of the trial that Vivian was feebleminded and, after the trial had been
delayed several weeks in an effort to gather additional evidence, another testimony
came forth. Caroline Wilhelm, a social worker who had previously asserted several
times that she could find no defects in Vivian, asserted that Vivian was not quite a
normal baby. In actuality, both girls received adequate marks in school and Vivian

Federal Government And The United States
Federal Government
The United States of America government is called the federal government and is the
republic of the fifty states which constitute the United States. It also constitutes the
capital districts and several other territories. Now the government is made up of three
different branches and they are the Executive, Legislature, and the Judicial. Those
powers are all vested by the US constitution which is in the congress, the president,
and also the federal court that also includes the Supreme Court. The acts of congress
define the duties and powers which concludes the executive departments and courts
that are inferior to the Supreme Court. When you talk about history and the Federal
government that means you can have a long line of topics and information that you
could discuss. There s an outline that is laid out by the government of the united states
and that is called the constitution. The government was formed in the year of 1789
and that makes it the world s first modern constitutional republic. The United States
government is based on two words or you could call them principles and that s
federalism and republicanism, which means the power is shared between the federal
government along with the state governments. Ever since the American Civil War
there s been a really big change in government and has really expanded at a large
rate. Even though there s been certain times that the legislative branch has had
dominance and those were events that were
Beowulf and the 13th Warrior Comparison
The Comparison of Beowulf and 13th Warrior Beowulf is an epic poem written a
long time ago. The 13th Warrior is pretty much a movie based on Beowulf but not
exactly. The two pieces of literature both shared a lot of differences and similarities
as well. The 13th Warrior offered a more realistic, believable, and more
understanding of the epic tale of Beowulf. It s a short story covering the bases of a
triumphant hero battling three supernatural monsters. But there had a lot of theatrical
remake of the original story; it provides us with the barbaric cannibalistic tribe of the
Wendols, which were creatures of the mist. Both the epic Beowulf and the movie the
13th Warrior shared similarities and differences in the struggle of good... Show more

Even though there are a lot of differences they also had a few similarities. One of
them was the point that in the poem and movie Beowulf or Buliwulf died and they
died as a king. They were similar to some of the characters, battles, events, and the
terminations. The battle events of Beowulf and 13th Warrior are comparable. In
both Beowulf and his followers seek for an entrance into the monster s home to
kill the mother and Wendol or Grendol seek for Buliwylf location as well. They
both ended with Wendol and his mother dyeing. In conclusion Buliwylf or Beowulf
died as a king. In my opinion, I had the thought of Beowulf being a very boring
literature story that I was forced to read because I m a senior. But overall I enjoyed
the poem. Yes it was kind of hard to read and comprehend due to the Anglo Saxon
literature. As far as the movie 13th Warrior I really enjoyed because I m such a
visual learner. Even though the movie was somewhat different in names and kind of
out of order I was still able to understand and point out the different events from the
poem. So due to this watching this movie really enhanced my knowledge about
Transformations To Adulthood In Salinger s Catcher In The

That s the whole trouble. You can t ever find a place that s nice and peaceful,

I died, and then right under that it ll say Fuckyou. I m positive, in fact. (204) Holden,
in Salinger s Catcher in the Rye is faced with a series of internal conflicts throughout
the story. In the beginning, Holden is introduced as a very negative adolescent boy
who is unwilling to face adulthood, but throughout the story Holden s character
develops and the roots of his depression are revealed. It becomes clear that Holden is
reluctant to growing up and the only thingthat gives him any sense of hope is
children. Through this, Salinger creates the question of whether or not Holden
matures into adulthood by the end of the book. In the beginning, Holden is seen as
a troubled 16 year old who has just failed out of Pencey Prep boarding school.
Holden has the tendency to negatively criticize things, which he most famously does
by labeling them as phony . He associates the term phony with things that seem
artificial or shallow to him, mostly within adult society. One of the biggest reasons I

Andrew Laeddis is a disturbed patient on Shutter Island who the doctors are trying

horrible conditions that he was in and the traumas that he saw during the war left
him with post traumatic stress when he returned home. When Andrew came back

Role Of Corruption In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is a term coined after America became a free nation ready for
growth and prosperity. It was and continues to be used frequently in reference to the
opportunity to move up in social status, create a family, and live a comfortable life. In
the roaring twenties this household term put on a new meaning, one filled with greed,
overindulgence, and materialism. In his most exemplary work the, The Great Gatsby,
F Scott Fitzgerald portrays the corrupt nature of the American Dream through the fall
of his characters. The author portrays the frailty of the American Dream with
protagonist of the story, Jay Gatsby, the love of his life Daisy, and her husband Tom.
Gatsby s undying desire to succeed quickly to impress Daisy turns into greed just as
the American dream suddenly becomes unattainable due to corruption.
Gatsby s slow demise serves as the ideal portrayal of the faulty American dream.
Fitzgerald s characterization of Jay Gatsby as the hopeful and ambitious man
parallels the original values of the American dream. Like the American Dream,
reputation precedes Gatsby. The author conceals Gatsby s personal narrative until
chapter three which leads to the reputation of wealth and success. It is not until later
in the novel where the reader is able to see Gatsby s true flaws. By using this
technique Fitzgerald is able to convey the role of reputations in modern society and
how greatly they can differ from reality. Although the reader was first led to believe
that

The Influence Of Bats In Antarctica
Bats are the only mammals that are capable of continuous flight and live all across
the world except in Antarctica. The reason that there are no bats in Antarctica is
because they live in areas in moderate climates, so they avoid extreme deserts or
Polar Regions. They also make up about one fourth of mammals, with around 1,000
species. They primarily eat night flying insects, which makes them a great contributor
of pest control. However, the minority of bats consumes nectar, fruit, blood, and other
small animals.
Unfortunately, during the 21st century, some bats from parts of North America was

Therefore, worldwide bats assist as a contributor to their fellow neighbors of their

Given the circumstances, research has gone underway to protect the bats of North

unfortunately the more people know the more curious, thirsty and greedy for

According to A Handbookof Critical Approaches of Literature, the id represents the
pleasure principle of human psyche with instinctual gratification, heedless of
consequence, as its one and only concern. Accordingly, the superego and the ego
compete with the overpowering id, which results in Faustus fall. On the other hand,
the superego stands for the inhibiting agent or the morality principle and the
representative of all moral restrictions and the advocate of the impulse toward
perfection (130). Therefore, the ego remains the only factor of the psyche to create a
healthy social balance of the two extremes, which definition justifies the descriptions
of the reality principle or the mediator . However, Faustus id does not leave room for
any counteraction from the superego, or at least not enough, allowing his pride and
insolence to completely take over his personality.
The chorus informs the reader, and at the same time gives him/her a foresight of
Faustus flourishing appearance on the beginning of the play:
Till swoll n with cunning, of a self conceit,
His waxen wings did mount above his reach
And melting, heavens conspired his overthrow! [I.i; 19 21]
With the same idea the chorus also conveys the tragic and parody like end of Faustus
life:
Faustus is gone: regard his hellish fall,
Whose fiendful fortune may exhort the wise
Only to wonder at unlawful things,

Marriage And Marriage
Growing up we have always dreamt of the day we would be walked down the aisle
by our fathers, or watch the love of our life walk towards up in front of rows of
people. Even before were even engaged we wonder what colors or theme the
wedding will be, how many people will be there, or where it will be! Unifying your
love with somebody during your adult years has been something expected of us
since childhood. Marriage is a big milestone in life, opening and closing many doors
in life. In addition to changing your family it also affects other aspects of your life.
Studies have shown that the satisfaction in marriage and the quality of happiness and
health of marriage are different for heterosexuals and homosexuals. The partner s
understanding for one another, their fighting styles , and outlook on life are big
aspects of marriage. These aspects differ among the separate groups, which is why
same sex couples have higher rates of satisfaction in life and have happier, healthier
marriages compared to opposite sex couples. Heterosexuals and homosexuals are
different when it comes to the partner s understanding for one another. In fact, men
and women have different biological makeup which contributes to their physical,
emotional, and mental differences. In marriage, one aspect that heavily dictates
marriage is communication. Homosexual couples have a better understanding of each
other compared to heterosexual couples, because of their identical gender. Two

Pros And Cons Of The One Child Policy
Since Thomas Malthus s Essay on the Principle of Population, published in 1798, the
exponential growth of population and the arithmetic growth of necessities like food
production have haunted the subconscious of social scientists and demographers.
However, places like China and the Soviet Union rejected Malthus s ideas, often for
historical and political reasons. In the middle of the twentieth century China faced a
huge increase in population. Their solution was to create the now infamous One
Child Policy. The government s main concern in both instituting the policy and later
changing it to the Two Child Policy was protecting the economy from the burden of a
fluctuating population. Although China has claimed the policy prevented around 400

The many human rights abuses, the aging population, and the millions of orphaned

serious demographic problems China faces. If the government were not overly
concerned with its own pride, power, and economy, it would see that revoking the
policy would end the horror stories of forced abortion, Heihaizi, and other violations
based on prejudice and disregard towards women. It is clear that the One Child Policy

Mary s Submissive Attitude Towards Her Husband
Tension can be an everyday occurrence in the lives of those who are married. This
tension can occur through multiple means and can be detrimental to a relationship.
For example, tension in marriage can come from money problems, infidelity, and
unexpected circumstances. However, in some relationships the tension is caused
because of a partners personality being overbearing or selfish. This paper will look
at Mary from Steinbeck s The Winter of Our Discontent , and how her lofty and
submissive attitude causes tension in her marriagewith Ethan. Mary s loftiness
concerning money causes marital tension because of her unwillingness to admit

In the scene where Ethan asks Mary for money to give to Danny, she tells Ethan that
she is still not interested in business, and then she willingly give Ethan a thousand
dollars from her own money to him to use (122). Mary in this scene is very
submissive to the judgement of Ethan. However, we must understand that this
submissive attitude by Mary is because she doesn t care for her husband or his moral
health. We can understand this because Ethan first asks her if she doesn t care about
the business. This is important to not because Ethan is trying to suggest to Mary that
the business he has planned could be considered suspicious. However, Mary clearly
explains that she doesn t want to know, and that she is apathetic towards her husband
s dealings. This is important because this apathetic attitude towards business reveals
marital tension in that she is indifferent towards her husband s actions. Indifference
in a marriage can lead to many problems in life. For example, if a wife didn t care
where her husband was going at night, and later found he was committing adultery,
this could lead to a big fight or a divorce. Furthermore, Mary s attitude of
submissiveness towards her money shows further her indifference towards her
husband and his dealings. She willingly grants a thousand dollars with no questions
asked to him. A thousand dollars back then was a lot of money, and she clearly
doesn t care what her husband will do with the money. Furthermore, we understand
that this money was for Danny, so that he could use it to kill himself. This is a
serious breach in moral conduct, but Mary doesn t care at all. She is revealing that,
whether or not, Ethan commits a immoral act, she is more than willing to let him
commit that act, and understanding from the previous paragraph she even
encourages his immoral
Coming Of Age Stories
Coming of age stories are defined as stories where a vital character goes through a
significant maturation process. Both Jane Eyre and a portrait of the artist as a
young man match this description. The respective main characters, Jane Eyre and
Stephen Dedalus both undergo a series of maturation changes as they venture into
adulthood and all that it entails. Although Jane and Stephen are very different in
terms of their lifestyle preferences, beliefs, customs and manners, many similarities
can be drawn from the two concerning the hardships and adversities they are faced
with as they grow up. Jane s uncle s dying wish was that his wife raise Jane. As a
young child she was harassed by her cousin John Reed who would always be aided
by his mom. While locked in the haunted red room, Jane believes that she sees the
ghost of her uncle who sought to protect her. Jane is forced to grow up without love

Analysis of the Film American Beauty
American Beauty is a 1999 drama film that focuses on contemporary lives of
individuals having diverse personalities and identities. The movie and the main
character Lester Burnham are aiming to make us realise that life can be short
therefore we should lead more meaningful lives. Through this, he takes us one year
back which summarises his life and those around him. Outward appearances can be
very deceiving as anyone can acquire superficial impressions. In this discussion, I
will be examining closely on a number of identities that is found in American Beauty .
In the film, the characters are in the search for what they believed was their
happiness. Too focused on finding what they deemed was happiness, they failed to
consistently maintain coherent identities. Lester Burnham, a husband and a father,
who is the protagonist of the film, feels ambushed at home and at work. He has little
to no control of his life as his wife Carolyn strives to be the perfect American family.
Lester unleashes from being controlled when he meets his daughter s best friend,
Angela and sees her as a femme fatale and their neighbour s son, Ricky. Ricky
introduces himself to Lester on one of Carolyn s business social function and gets
along immediately while sharing a joint. Lester witnesses Ricky quit his job
casually and was amazed: I think you just became my personal hero. Meeting Ricky
inspired Lester to re live his teenage years and he was happy of the outcome in the

Conflict Resolution at General Hospital

Conflict Resolution at General Hospital
The current conflict Conflict as defined in the text is a process in which one party
perceives that its interests are being opposed or negatively affected by another
party (Hellriegel/Slocum, 2011). In the case of General Hospital, the two parties at
odds are the CEO Mike Hammer and the physicians represented by the Director of
Medicine Dr. Mark Williams. Mr. Hammer also faced opposition from the hospitals
board of trustees. The conflict stemmed from the fact that the hospital was no longer
competitive and was losing money. Mr. Hammer was unable to convince the
physicians or the board to adhere to any cost containing measures or ... Show more

They will now have to develop their niche because of the new medical center but
again that should not be a problem because of the skill level of their current staff.
Three years ago, the organization I work for underwent a reorganization process.
We followed the team approach and were able to see results in cost savings, and
became more competitive in our field within the second year.
Use of negotiation to achieve buy in Negotiation is defined as a process in which
two or more interdependent individuals or groups perceive that they have both
common and conflicting goals state and discuss proposals and preferences for
specific terms of a possible agreement (Hellriegel/Slocum, 2011, pg.395). Mr.
Hammer mentioned Good cop, bad cop in his conversation with Ms. Harding. There
plan is to use the Distributive Negotiation Strategy. Hellriegel/Slocum explains that
one characteristic of this strategy is to sway the other party to your side by
alternating sympathetic with threatening behavior (pg.397). In this situation,
Hammer has taken the role of sympathizer and Harding is in the threatening role.
Based on the actions taken by Ms. Harding in regards to Dr. Boyer, her style could
also be seen as ultimatums. After the bold move to implement change without
warning by Harding, the medical director and the physicians were ready and willing
to discuss their concerns. What is needed here is mediation. Both sides needed
Macbeth -Schizophrenia in Macbeth Essay example
In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both show signs of what
would today be diagnosed as symptoms of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is defined as
a psychotic disorder characterized by loss of contact with the environment, by
noticeable deterioration in the level of functioning in everyday life, and by
disintegration of personality expressed as disorder of feeling, thought, and conduct.
There are three major symptoms of the disorder; not being able to distinguish the
difference between fantasy and reality, incoherent conversations, and withdrawal
physically and emotionally. The most common and most well known symptom of
schizophreniais when people cannot distinguish between what is real and what is not.

It became all they thought about and their whole being revolved around it. When
Lady Macbeth finds that Macbeth has been prophesized to be king, she does not
believe he is capable of fulfilling the prophecy alone. So, she says to herself, Hie
thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear, and chastise with the valor of my
tongue which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem to have thee crowned withal.
(I.5.23 28) Macbeth becomes so passionate about becoming the king that he killed
anyone who could possibly take the throne away from him, even the king, Duncan. I
have done the deed. he said to his wife after killing him. (II.2.14)
Macbeth shows several symptoms of schizophrenia. These symptoms are
techniques that Shakespeare uses to create the idea that Macbeth has a mental
illness. Macbeth s main symptom is detachment from reality. While contemplating
killing Banquo to secure his fate, Macbeth begins to see an imaginary dagger in
front of him. He asks, Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible to feeling as to sight, or
art thou but a dagger of the mind, a false creation, proceeding from the heat
oppressed brain? (II.2.35 39) Then after Banquo is dead, Macbeth believes he sees
his ghost during a dinner with the country s nobility. Macbeth says, The table s full.
(III.4.46) Lennox points to the seat where Macbeth sees Banqo s ghost sitting and
tells him that it is empty. Puzzled, Macbeth asks, Where? (III.4.48) He
Comparing The Man He Killed And The White City
Claude McKay and Thomas Hardy both clarify in their stories a feeling of
choosing what they are doing with their life and the circumstance that they are in.
In The Man He Killed the storyteller is befuddled and in dismay of what he has
done and why he must be in a circumstance of executing another man in any case as
he said he could have most likely of been great companions with the other person if
things were distinctive, perhaps. In The White City the storyteller has a filled
contempt for the white world and being placed in a position where he supposes the
main reason he is not a skeleton is because of his dull filled energy of his and that he
will continue pushing forward. In The Man He Killed and The White City the

The storyteller is in a situation where African Americans are thought to a lower
standard than the whites of America as there is the white world s damnation when
the African Americans at last got approach rights like the Whites. In spite of the
fact that African Americans now have parallel rights, they are still given
indications of dangers by the whites who don t need break even with rights, yet the
storyteller expresses that he would not twist an inch of be toyed with as he will

intention not at all like in The Man He Killed is extremely sure all through the
entire ballad, as his primary rationale is his scorn of being looked downward on
and that regardless of what number of deterrents he gets from the whites and he
will continue pushing ahead regardless. On the off chance that it were not for his

as his paradise lives in their hellfire. Surrounding he looks, as much as he adores the
city that he is in, he really want to notice that there is a white fog implying that white

fact that he is attempting to push ahead he is still in a position where he is looked
The Incarceration Of The United States
Issues Felons Face when Reintegrated with Society
Incarceration has been the primary means of punishment for criminals who have been
convicted of felony offenses. While prisoners are serving the term of incarceration
they face many difficult situations. Some of these situations can include committing
new crimes within the system which could lead to prolonging the current sentencing.
Those who are able to make parole after meeting the requirements set in place by the
court are faced with new difficulties when trying to reintegrate in society. While
inmates complete sentences ordered by the court, they have the opportunity to take
advantage of Federal Aid including continued education, job skill training,
employment opportunities and support programs. These programs are designed to
lessen the struggle offenders face as they reintegrate into society by offering a
positive direction upon their release. The overall goal is to achieve a reduction in the
rate of recidivism.
While in prison, criminals are given the opportunity to continue education as many
inmates do not have basic, grade school, education. Lack of education prevents most
released offenders from gaining regular employment and earning high enough wage
to prevent them from relapsing back into crime. Inmates in Florida prisons tested at
a median grade level of 6.9, with 64 percent scoring less than ninth grade literacy
skills, according to the Florida Department of Corrections 2006 07 Population Report
The Family Struggle In Gail Tsukiyama s A Thousand
Blossoms
One word to describe family is team. Relating to a sports team, there will be players
who struggle with getting along, but it doesn t take long to realize that the team will
not work if everyone doesn t figure out a way to compromise with all the diverse
personalities they ve got. With family comes struggle and disappointment but that
will only to an increased relationship of love and loyalty. No matter what it is, when
familystruggles and starts to see the family bond weaken it only opens their eyes to
how much they need each other. Struggle leads to sadness which leads to loneliness
and from that people need someone to rely on. Whether or not their struggles be
with family sometimes they are too private and too personal for friends, so they lean
back on family. In the book The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama
she portrays a message similar to this throughout the entire book. In most families
overcoming obstacles is expected, but the most important thing is being there for
each other during and after the fact. At the beginning of the story the two main
characters, Kenji and Hiroshi had to go through something as horrible as their parents
death. Tsukiyama writes, His obaachan often stopped... Show more content on

everything right. Kenji and Hiroshi accomplished this especially during the war.

everything a family has to go through, which varies from family to family everyone
at some point realizes that they have to accept each other in order for them to be a
Sugar Cravings Essay
Despite popular beliefs about how blood sugar levels relate to craving, there is
very little if any evidence indicating this to be true. Food cravings are largely a
psychological phenomenon that relates to old habits and learning. The most likely
reason that we see cravings in folks like you who have developed type 2 diabetes
may simply be that the history of eating patterns that contributed to the development
of the diabetes is persisting. Here s the good news: As is the case with all learned
behavior, cravings can be unlearned.
Remember, you can take control of cravings.
While it is true that intense sugar cravings could be one of the signs or symptoms of
diabetes, there could be several other sugar cravings causes. Some of the most
common factors that could lead to sugar cravings in a person are: ... Show more

However, if you feel depressed for any reason, your hormone levels tend to
plummet, which also has an effect on your metabolism. This is probably most
people turn towards comfort foods like ice cream, chocolate, cake and so on, when
they go through bouts of depression. The reason for this is that most people go
through intense sugar cravings when they feel depressed. Sugar can release
serotonin in the body, but it is only for a short period of time. Be prepared to
experience some sugar cravings, for as long as you remain depressed.
Eating habits: One of the facts about sweets is that the more you give your body
sugar, the more your body will crave it. In several cases, people are used to eating
sweets on a regular basis, which is why their body develops sugar cravings, if it
does not get the amount of sugar it is used to. Hence going on a restrictive diet,
which limits the intake of sugar considerably could trigger of intense sugar cravings in
Going To College And The Struggles Of Real Life
Struggles of Real Life
Financial Planning
Going to college is a big deal for some people, college usually means getting out of
the town you grew up in and going on to bigger and better things in life. Some get
scholarships to go to their dream college, others aren t so lucky, they have to take out
student loans and get other financial aid help. There are many challenges about going
to college, but money is the biggest challenge of them all. Having money is the
only way to get into college or getting scholarships, but not everyone gets
scholarships. If your parents do not have the money to send you to college, they
have to take out student loans that you have to pay for, for the rest of your life
almost. It is challenging to get into the college that you really want to go to school at
if you do not have the money to put yourself through college.
Going through college is a tough decision, there are so many things that you have to
pay for when you decide to go. I would like to go to Black Hills State in Spearfish,
South Dakota or Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. I am going to have to

is a difficult task to do, some would rather work odd jobs for the rest of their lives,
then paying for more school and not knowing if they will even have job after their
college career is over. Going to college is a huge commitment to make when the
payment for college is
A Healthy Form Of Recreation
Bicycling is a healthy form of recreation that people all over the world participate in
to various degrees. As an exercise activity, cycling is recognized as a low impact
sport that minimizes the potential for damaged muscles or inflammation and soreness
in the joints. That said, it s important to be aware that cycling involves a repetitive
motion, roughly 4000 pedal revolutions per hour for the average recreational cyclist,
in the hip, kneeand ankle joints during the pedal stroke. Like all repetitive activities,
there is a potential for overuse injuries to develop if the proper mechanics of the
action are not identified and practiced. This report analyzes the proper mechanics of
the pedal stroke, identifies the main biomechanical causes attributed to overuse
injuries in the hip, knee and ankle joints and provides suggestions on how to correct
those biomechanical differences through muscle development and flexibility
exercises.
Phases of the Pedal Stroke
The bicycle pedal stroke involving the lower limb consists of four phases within a
360 degree rotation. As a point of reference, the top of the pedal stroke begins at 12
o clock, or 0 degrees, moving clockwise. The focus here is to analyzing the three
joints, hip, knee and ankle along the sagittal and frontal planes. When viewing the
three joints from the frontal plane, there should be vertical alignment between the
medial joints of the hip, knee and ankle. Angles of the three joints during pedal
rotation are
Andrew Jackson Essay
Andrew Jackson
No one can argue that as a president, Jackson made no mistakes; however, they in
no way disqualify him from having a place on the U.S. twenty dollar bill. Jackson
made every decision according to the will of the American people, even the more
unsavory ones. He was a war hero that exemplified the strength and tenacity by which
America has defined itself over the generations. He acted in all ways with concern for
the growth of the American nation, both at home and overseas. Even his now
unquestionably negative actions, such as the Indian Removal Act, were done at the
time not only in the interest of the citizens of the united states , but in regard
(however misguided) to the survival of the Indian nations. It is this ... Show more

Although Jackson made many decisions with regard to the Native American
population that are, with today s more broad interpretation of all men , considered
immoral, he acted according the sentiment of the voting populace: that being the

Jackson had a war record that makes him, even today, and example of the strength
and tenacity of the United States . Jackson served in many campaigns, both on
behalf of the militia of his home state, Tennessee , and the U.S. military. It is with
the U.S. military in the War of 1812 that Jackson received his most famous victory;
the Battle of New Orleans. There, on January 8, 1815 Jackson defended a British
charge that resulted in only 6 American deaths, but over 2,000 British deaths and
injuries (Tregle). Jackson , and this battle in particular, became a symbol of the
distinctive American strength (Tregle) that we still prize today.
Jackson made every decision, not for personal gain, but in what he felt was the
best interest of the United States . The ideals of westward expansion (Manifest
Destiny) did not begin with Jackson , nor did they die with him; as a result,
Jackson cannot be held solely responsible for actions taken in the furthering of this
goal. Jackson did much to expand the power of the United States , at home and
overseas. He settled disputes with Spain that lead to the acquisition of what is now
Florida . He opened the British

On the receiving end, the demodulator works by detecting one or both of the
frequencies, often with a band pass filter, regenerating the input signal. You can also
use a signal processor to convert the carrier from time domain to frequency domain
with a fourier transform, and then pick off the signal that way.) The FSK method of
modulating/demodulation is typically limited to low frequency signal rates, such as
300 bits per second
1.2.2: FSK DEMODULATION:
FSK demodulation is the process of recovering the original signal by detecting the
frequencies involved in the original modulation. Typically, this is done with a
bandpass amplifier tuned to one of the two frequencies, followed by a amplitude
demodulator. The output is the original signal. It is possible, though often
unecessary, to use two bandpass ampliers, one for each frequency, but this is
redundant. It is also possible to use a digital signal processing technique to perform a
fourier transform on the input signal, but that can be complex and costly.
This is the method used in very early modems, up to around 1200 baud.
It is also possible, using FSK, to send multiple signals across one line. Simply pick
suitable frequencies for each modulation state, and mix the outputs into one
consolidated analog signal. On the other end, you have multiple bandpass filters
running at the same time and, as long as the chosen frequencies are

Soybean is the third largest oilseed crop in India next to Groundnut Mustard and
accounts for 25% of the total oilseeds produced in the country in a year. Soya oil
contributes about 10% of total vegetable oils produced in the country. Groundnut is
the most widely consumed and traded edible oil determining edible oil economics.
India is the world s second largest
producer of groundnut, next only to China. But groundnut being primarily a Kharif
(monsoon) crop is vulnerable to vagaries of monsoon and also speculative activities.
In 1996, the Government set up a Technology Mission on oil seeds, to increase
production of other oil seeds and oil, and to reduce dependence on imports. The
strategy followed was: пѓ To increase productivity with better farm inputs and
practices. пѓ To increase area under oilseed crop. пѓ To encourage winter (Rabi)
oilseed crops. This led to a sharp increase in oilseed production driven mainly by
rapeseed, sunflower, castor seed and Soya Oil seed production jumped from 6.1mn

producer of rapeseed and cottonseed and the largest producer of castor seed. Timely

Comparing the Openings of the Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet by Franco
Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann Both openings of Romeo and Juliet by Franco
Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann show similarities and contrasts. Although both versions
are faithful to the text as the words spoken by the voiceover in the Prologue are the
same, the methods of presentation are clearly different. Zeffirelli places the film in
the 17th century and takes a more traditional approach. By using a white middle
aged male for the voiceover, Zeffirelli is just giving the audience exactly what they
expect, the first opportunity to see Romeo and Juliet on the screen is when as the
film was made in 1968. This... Luhrmann s opening is... Show more content on

I think it is also important that the statue is smaller than the skyscrapers as this
suggests that the families in this time were so powerful that they were in fact more
influential than God. I think that the purpose of the frantic introduction and the
short takes represent snapshots taken by a camera and give the impression that
there is a lot of action in the film. Zeffirelli, however uses only 2 shots in his
opening with slow panning from left to right, this connotes a slow, more tranquil
film. Luhrmann ignores the stereotypes of Shakespeare, so therefore he has more
freedom to portray the film in a modern way. There is a quiet string quartet playing
in Zeffirelli s opening which creates a calm atmosphere. The non diegetic music in
Luhrmann s is Cammina Burra , which is a dramatic opera and as the music
crescendos, all of the snapshots become faster and have more dramatic images like
gun battles and fighting. This makes the audience realise that the music will be
connected to what is happening in the film, and the directors could use a diminuendo
to build tension during tense moments. This opera connotes the emotions anger,
despair and confusion, and because the music climaxes early on, before the audience
has time to settle into the film, suggests that the film is going to be action packed
and will grab their attention straight away. The uses of the various sizes of

Harlem Renaissance Essays

  • 1. Harlem Renaissance Essays Crafting an essay on the Harlem Renaissance can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the need for a comprehensive understanding of the historical and cultural context but also in capturing the essence of a period marked by a vibrant artistic and intellectual reawakening. The Harlem Renaissance, a pivotal moment in American history, demands meticulous research to delve into the nuances of its socio-political landscape, the prominent figures who shaped it, and the profound impact it had on various art forms. The challenge intensifies as one strives to articulate the significance of this movement in fostering African American identity and fostering a cultural revolution. Moreover, weaving a coherent narrative requires a delicate balance between historical analysis and literary exploration. Addressing the diverse artistic expressions, from literature and music to visual arts, adds complexity to the task. An effective essay on the Harlem Renaissance should not only showcase the achievements and contributions but also delve into the challenges and controversies that accompanied this period of cultural rebirth. Navigating through the myriad of perspectives and scholarly debates surrounding the Harlem Renaissance requires a keen analytical mind and the ability to synthesize information effectively. The writer must thread the needle between presenting a well-researched, academic argument and infusing the essay with the creative spirit that defined the era. In conclusion, tackling an essay on the Harlem Renaissance demands dedication, intellectual rigor, and a passion for capturing the essence of a transformative cultural movement. The process involves an intricate dance between historical analysis and artistic appreciation. Despite its challenges, the exploration of this rich and dynamic topic can be an intellectually fulfilling journey for those willing to embark on it. • 2. Movie Theater And Choosing A Seat 1.When walking into a movie theater and choosing a seat, the appropriate interval all depends on how full the theater is. When a person pays for a movie ticket, they understand the possibility of not receiving the ideal seating. Most movie theaters operate on a first come first served basis. In my estimation, the appropriate spacing between people at a movie theateris one seat. I don t have a problem sitting next to a stranger in a movie theater with one seat separating us. I understand sometimes sitting next to a stranger in inevitable, I have had to do it many times. Movie theaters become very dark once the movie starts, which causes people to feel uncomfortable because they are vulnerable without sight. I feel that the appropriate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people are not going to be able to experience wizard magic, space, or getting stuck on a sinking ship. A lesson can be learned from any situation, whether it s what to do, or not to do. Another positive is that movies teach diversity. These popular commercial films are full of different ideas, people, and elements. When people watch diverse movies, it allows them to become more open and accepting in our everyday lives. A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and teens have seen these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to emulate these actions. Young minds are malleable, which could lead to different problems in the future of these young people. Another negative aspect of these movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good thing because people need breaks sometimes, but we can t be distracted all of the time. If we had a choice between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most people would probably choose to be somewhere else mentally. 3. I chose the very beginning of the Bourne Identity (2002) to look for camera techniques because this portion of the film will be the first seen by the viewers. In the opening scene the viewer is underwater looking up at Jason Bourne floating on the surface of the ocean. I feel this camera angle was employed by the filmmaker to show the audience that Jason Bourne is not a bad guy. We do not know who Jason is at
  • 3. The Effects Of A Living Wage And Why Profitable... In a perfect world, everyone would be equal. Children would not go to school hungry and people would not find shelter under a raggedy cardboard box. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect. We need to accept that life is not fair. People are constantly in the news because they cannot afford to live a healthy and safe life. The government is constantly discussing whether a living wage would help individuals living conditions. In this persuasive essay, I discuss the effects of a living wage and why profitable organisations should not be required to pay them. A living wage is generally calculated on a family of four, based on the notion that people working at full time jobs, and their families, should not have to live in poverty, (Devinatz, 2013). For the purpose of this essay, I assume a profitable organisation is an organisation that makes continuous yearly profit. A living wage would not change the state of this economy, instead it would create a negative impact and create new problems to solve. Discussed in this essay, is the impact a living wage would have on living costs, unemployment rate, the education index, youth employment and crime rates. It is also discusses the change in value of money with a living wage and the basic idea of living. Profitable organisations will want to increase income to offset the increase in wages, if a living wage is put in place. The main way organisations can increase income is by increasing the mark up on goods and services, so

  • 5. Analysis of Opening Sequence of Spielberg s Saving Private... Analysis of Opening Sequence of Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan Saving Private Ryan , directed by internationally acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, was the winner of five academy awards in 1998 which included best director, cinematography and film editing. The opening sequence begins with World War 1 s historic D Day invasion of Omahabeach in June 6th 1944. In this essay I will analyse how Spielberg uses various techniques to evoke sympathy and shock the viewer, captures the reality of combat without ever glorifying war itself. Spielberg used variety of camera shots including close up, medium shot, long shot, wide angle shot and high angle shot. He used the hand held camera which gives a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This long shot allows the viewer see a lot more sceneries and see a lot of action. Spielberg also uses an underwater camera which gives a great effect and it makes the scene more realistic, we hear the sound of bullets fizzing through the water and hitting soldiers and witness their blood getting mixed with the sea. The horror of war is inescapable, even under the sea He also uses variety angle shots like Wide Angle shots, High Angle shots and Low Angle shots. Wide Angle shot is what is known as panoramic view and that gives a lot of action to us. Wide angle shot gives us simple a wide view, so that we can see lot more scenes and soldiers than in a normal medium frame. Saving Private Ryan has many poignant scenes in the first twenty minutes of the film. The first poignant scene is when soldiers jumped into the water from landing craft and already 10 15 soldiers are killed in 3 4 seconds. This is how easily can soldiers can get killed in war and they probably know that 5 or 10 soldiers are going to get killed at this stage but they still fight. More than 2,000 U.S service men died in the D Day landing. Spielberg also shows us how men can be cruel in war. For example a German soldier is depicted in fire and an American G.I says Don t shoot him! Let him burn! This seems very
  • 6. Memory- A ToK Essay Memory Memory like liberty is a fragile thing Elizabeth Loftus. What does this statement suggest about memory as a way of knowing in the pursuit of ethical knowledge? Loftus suggests that memory, like liberty (i.e. freedom), is something that can easily be manipulated due to its delicate nature. The title assumes that we can recall on past events in order to draw reasonable conclusions surrounding ethical issues. In order to understand the question raised in the title more easily it could be rephrased as follows; Is memory a reliable way of knowing when drawing conclusions based on ethical matters? . There are weaknesses when looking at only one way of knowing because it prevents us from having a comprehensive understanding of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this would be the Lost In The Mall study; subjects were given narratives of events from their childhood, provided by family members. But, one of these narratives was a fictional story of how they got lost in a mall as a child. Because they were told repeatedly in a very convincing manner that these events really did happen, 25% of participants were able to remember the false event, i.e. they believed a delusion. This proves just how easily memories can be influenced and changed, and so makes me believe that using memory alone as a way of knowing is an inadequate method in which to judge ethical issues. This title led me to develop me own knowledge question: Is memory an accurate way of knowing when looking at events of the past? The Survival School Interrogation study explains clearly why I believe that memory is an inadequate way of knowing when looking at past events. US soldiers were subjected to abusive interrogation techniques and afterwards were asked to identify their interrogator. However, they were asked misleading questions about their interrogator s appearance (e.g. He was the man with the beard, wasn t he? ) and so over 50% of the soldiers falsely identified the interrogator (false identification). This is because the soldiers felt subjected to normative conformity. They wanted to fit in with what was being suggested to them by their peers and so, perhaps knowingly,

Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis DATE:September 16, 2012 TO:Patricia Bennett, Supervising Principal FROM:Connor Sims, Associate SUBJECT:Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111) This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil and gas field properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a shortage of available oil. In addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly waning. New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012). Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of resources. Long term Resource Depletion Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much production, particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year in which US peak oil occurred. International Comparison In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry faces heavy foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil production, behind Saudi Arabia and Russia (Energy, 2012). Saudi Arabia s OPEC governor expects Saudi output to rise steadily beyond 2030 with a 1.5 million barrel per day spare production capacity then (Energy, 2012). Russia holds the world s largest

Investopedia.com Your Source For Investing Education. Fundamental Analysis Ever hear someone say that a company has strong fundamentals ? The phrase is so overused that it s become somewhat of a clichГ©. Any analyst can refer to a company s fundamentals without actually saying anything meaningful. So here we define exactly what fundamentals are, how and why they are analyzed, and why fundamental analysis is often a great starting point to picking good companies. The Theory Doing basic fundamental valuation is quite straightforward; all it takes is a little time and energy. The goal of analyzing a company s fundamentals is to find a stock s intrinsic value, a fancy term for what you believe a stock is really worth as opposed to the value at which it is being traded in the marketplace. If the intrinsic value is more than the current share price, your analysis is showing that the stock is worth more than its price and that it makes sense
  • 9. How The Collapse Of Our Agriculture Effects The Entire World Eating Fossil Fuels made me realize how lazy our country is in general. Many things we consume today are eating away our insides without even knowing. This book provided efficient evidence to our failing food market, oil industry, population overcrowding, etc. Additionally, I realized how the collapse of our agricultureeffects the entire world, and how no one seems to care about it. I will explain how certain circumstances relate to my life and add opinions to certain sections of the book that caught my eye. As our global population reaches 50% urban, there is an urgent need to return food, fiber and materials production to the cities. The U.S urban population is currently highly food insecure due to a lack of local food production and networks Personally, this is a huge issue that needs to be addressed. As the population is rising, the country needs to have facilities efficiently producing enough food to feed the areas. This quote given in the introduction opened my eyes to harsh reality. It states We are dependent on the energy of oil and natural gas to seed our crops, maintain them, harvest them, process them, and transport them to market. What happens when Oil is gone? What are our alternative options? Food process and distribution relies strictly from oil. We ve known for years that oil is running low and we still have yet to figure out an efficient substitute. Adding into this topic Hunger is not caused from lack of food, but from a lack of access to food. That

  • 11. Advantages Of Viral Marketing INTRODUCTION Technology and information have growing rapidly in recent decades led to the increasing number of new media that support the means to communicate. It is considered as a new era of communication and information. The massive scale of development gradually continued to be used by many parties, especially in the process of dissemination of information via internet. Everyone use the internet to distribute information and news to other people. The phenomenon of Internet usage is evidenced by the increasing number of internet users in the world, especially in developing countries. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, according to Dahan (2012) quoted by Snyder (2004), viral marketing is a type of word of mouth marketing technique used on the internet . Viral marketing can encourage customers to communicate with each other in order to offer product or brand under consideration. Viral marketing concept, which was first used by Steve Jurvetson and Tim Draper, is defined as a word of mouth marketing technique used in relation to a brand, product or service similar to the spread of viruses on social networks on electronic media (Comet, 2006; Dahan, 2012; cited in Akyol, 2013). In conclusion, viral marketing can be defined as a word of mouth marketing technique that use internet as a social networks media to spread information related to our products or brands. Viral marketing is different with other marketing strategies. The difference is that it has an authentic content that provokes individuals. Individuals share this creative content due to its authenticity on electronic social networks and thus, this content reaches millions of people by being communicated from one individual to another on social networks (Wilson, 2005; cited in Dahan, 2012). This content, which spreads like a virus very fast from one individual to another, increases awareness even if it does not affect the sales of the related brand, product or service instantly (Dahan 2012, cited in Akyol,

Okay suppose your five year old daughter was brutally attacked and raped by a known sex offender, would you rather the offender to be sentenced to a few years in prison, only to get out and destroy another innocent victim s life or have them chemically castrated? Chemical castration is the process of injecting male sex offenders female hormones to eliminate their sex drive. According to Justice Minister John Hatzistergos, Chemical castrations is nonsense and does not work properly because it only treats the physical urge . However, for 94.7% of treated heterosexuals to have no repeat offenses in 17 years is substantial. An article in the Crime Times a study in Germany compared 99 surgically castrated individuals and 35 non castrated individuals for 10 years after release. The recidivism rate for the castrated men was 3% compared to 46% non castrated men. These are VERY substantial numbers and even though surgical castration is more severe the end results for chemical vs. surgical are very similar, and a very good argument can be made for the humanity of chemical castration. The researchers report that all of their subjects showed marked reductions in outward directed anger during the experiment, while half exhibited reductions in anxiety and sexual desire. This suggests, they say, quot;Measures of outward directed anger are most sensitive to small reductions in circulating testosterone concentrations. quot; In some states, prisoners have begged the states to chemically castrate them with the states actually refusing. In Texas, Larry Don McQuay begged the state to give him the drug stating that he had molested some 200 children and would do it again if he were released. Johns Hopkins University found a recidivism rate of 65%

The truth is that which needs to be told, and true creation is that which needs to be created and what we need to create is Black images which speak to and inspire Black people stated in Documents from the Black Arts Movement (Karenga). This statement speaks truth to how African Americans felt in the 1960s and still today. Many great Civil Rights activists like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X wanted to set examples including being the voice of African Americans because many were silent about the injustice they endured from white Americans. Blacks felt that having artists of their own kind to relate to would be a sign of freedom a starting point to be equal to white Americans. This included black artists in music, acting, and poetry. After the 1980s blacks had finally made their own identities which were recognized through their talents. Martha Washington was a very smart young woman who made a lot of noise in her pursuit of America. She worked along side of her husband even though he wasn t at her side most of the time. Mind And Body Patrick Katz PHI 1103 Michael Bruno Word Count 1218 5 May 2016 Me, Myself, and My Body The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical aspects of the brain. For years, philosophers have been perplexed by the mind body problem. The mind is about mental processes and thought, while the body is the physical aspects of the brain. The mind body problem discusses the mind and body, along with the relationship between them. Dualists and monists are the two types of people that take a stand on the issue. While Dualism may spilt mind and body, monism is the belief that the mind and body are together one. Each of these beliefs can be broken down into types, justifying monism or dualism. Though each have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other side of dualism is interaction. Interaction is the way the mind and body interact among each other, so the three variations of this are interactionism, epiphenomenalism, and parallelism. Interactionism is where one believes that the mind and body influence one another. Next, epiphenomenalism dictates that mental occurrences are caused by physical ones, but have no influence on the physical. Now parallelism is different because it shares the view that both mental and physical states are not casually interacting, yet running in harmony with it. These are all the different types of dualism that have been theorized to this day. Many philosophers justify why dualism is the right theory behind the mind body problem. However, there are others that believe monism is the ideal theory towards the question. Monism is the view that the mind and body are essentially one. Within monism there are several different types; idealistic monism, materialistic monism, neutral monism, reflexive monism, substantial monism, attributive monism, and absolute monism. To begin, the idealistic monism view is one that shows the mind being all that exists and that everything else is simply a part of one s mental depiction. Materialistic monism on the other hand is the complete opposite in that it holds that only the physical is real and the mind is reduced to the physical. More specific

As almost every other boy, they playgames with guns and death involved. The problem is not that the boys play war, but that they cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin almost killed himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she punishes him for something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry, because they have to award Gavin the price of the best death. I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never played the game again. Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not understand consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he wants to put even more violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the game again, because nobody knows what would have happened then. This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is highly necessary. • 18. Organized Being in Kant’s Groundwork for the Metaphysics... Kant s argument that good will is the supreme purpose of man s existence based on observations of the influence that reason exerts on the will is inconsistent with what may be observed in nature. It presupposes an intentional cosmos wherein an organized being s purpose, and thus its standard of value, can be extracted from an examination of its constitution and faculties. While this presupposition is logically consistent with the rest of Kant s moral theory it does not coincide with what we can actually observe in nature. The following essay will examine, one, the idea of an organized being, secondly, why Kant proposes it, then we will contrast this idea with what we observe, and finally, analyse the extent of the harm done to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant proposes that the distinction of purposes between reason and instinct is apparent because if man s sole purpose was his own well being then the only factor that nature would allow to leverage his will would be instinct, the desires and inclinations thereof being entirely sufficient for that end. However, that man must have some other purpose beyond his own happiness is evident from the influence that reason exerts on the will. If man s object were his happiness alone then should reason have been communicated to this favoured creature ...it must only have served it to contemplate the happy constitution of its nature...but not that it should subject its desires to that weak and delusive guidance and meddle bunglingly with the purpose of nature. (6) Reason, in Kant s view, could not have been intended by nature as an auxiliary for enhancing man s pursuit of happiness. He points out his observation that those who attempt to employ reason in pursuit of this end often achieve results contrary to it. So long as we do not doubt the capacity of reason to compel man to set aside his inclinations we must also accept that nature has intended him for a secondary purpose as well. Otherwise, Nature would not only have taken on herself the choice of the ends, but

  • 20. Hamlet s Relationship Between Hamlet And Claudius Renowned British writer, William Shakespeare, in one of his most popular works, Hamlet, chronicles the growing suspicion and the eventual fatal confrontation between uncle and nephew. Within the first few pages, such contention is made apparent through the interactions between the two and Hamlet s disclosure of his attitude regarding his uncle. He declares, Tis an unweeded garden that grows to seed. Things rank and gross in nature possess it merely, in an effort to characterize Claudius as the weed that will infiltrate and destruct the garden, or rather Denmark (Shakespeare 1.2.135 137). Through an emphasis on Hamlets distrust of and contempt for his uncle, as well as offerings of comparisons between Old Hamlet and Claudius, Shakespeare alludes to the aforementioned statement as being a metaphor for Denmark s well being in the hands of Claudius. Shakespeare s depiction of the relationship between Hamlet and Claudius aids him in implying that his statement refers to Claudius impact on Denmark, rather than a more literal account of a garden. The first instance the two share a scene, it is clear that Hamlet does not appreciate what Claudius undoubtedly believes to be words of wisdom. Hamlet s father died less than two months prior to the beginning of the story, yet Claudius insists, But to persever in obstinate condolement is a course of impious stubbornness; tis unmanly grief. It shows a will most incorrect to heaven... (Shakespeare 1.2.92 95). Here, Claudius displays a lack of sympathy for Hamlet s grief, which both fuels Hamlet s dislike of him and initiates his lack of trust, for Hamlet undeniably views Claudius absence of grief as an alarming oddity. Hamlet later laments about how quickly his uncle wed his mother: Within a month, ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears had left the flushing in her gallГЁd eyes, she married (Shakespeare 1.2.153 156). This untimely union again highlights Claudius lack of sorrow, for less than a month after his brother s death, he chose to marry Gertrude. Hamlet s anger is a result of his mother s ill timed remarriage, but it is a product of Claudius insensitive involvement in it as well. Furthermore, although Hamlet does not directly come to this conclusion,
  • 21. Icarus Metamorphosis Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view to the lesson learned from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the myth, Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in defying the Gods and ignoring his father s instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his wings melting and falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their elders and live within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the lesson to be learned from Icarusadventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that Icarus success was his fearless flight and that if he didn t take the risk of flying too close to the burning light of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of them all. He believes that the adventures and risks we take in life are what make life worth living, and that a life lived that does not experience the thrills of risk, adventure, and possibly success, even for just a moment, is a life not well lived. In a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is needed to do amazing things. It was and continues to be used frequently in reference to the opportunity to move up in social status, create a family, and live a comfortable life. In the roaring twenties this household term put on a new meaning, one filled with greed, overindulgence, and materialism. In his most exemplary work the, The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald portrays the corrupt nature of the American Dream through the fall of his characters. The author portrays the frailty of the American Dream with protagonist of the story, Jay Gatsby, the love of his life Daisy, and her husband Tom. Gatsby s undying desire to succeed quickly to impress Daisy turns into greed just as the American dream suddenly becomes unattainable due to corruption. Gatsby s slow demise serves as the ideal portrayal of the faulty American dream. Fitzgerald s characterization of Jay Gatsby as the hopeful and ambitious man parallels the original values of the American dream. Like the American Dream, reputation precedes Gatsby. The author conceals Gatsby s personal narrative until chapter three which leads to the reputation of wealth and success. It is not until later in the novel where the reader is able to see Gatsby s true flaws. By using this technique Fitzgerald is able to convey the role of reputations in modern society and how greatly they can differ from reality. Although the reader was first led to believe that

This tension can occur through multiple means and can be detrimental to a relationship. For example, tension in marriage can come from money problems, infidelity, and unexpected circumstances. However, in some relationships the tension is caused because of a partners personality being overbearing or selfish. This paper will look at Mary from Steinbeck s The Winter of Our Discontent , and how her lofty and submissive attitude causes tension in her marriagewith Ethan. In the scene where Ethan asks Mary for money to give to Danny, she tells Ethan that she is still not interested in business, and then she willingly give Ethan a thousand dollars from her own money to him to use (122). Mary in this scene is very submissive to the judgement of Ethan. However, we must understand that this submissive attitude by Mary is because she doesn t care for her husband or his moral health. We can understand this because Ethan first asks her if she doesn t care about the business. This is important to not because Ethan is trying to suggest to Mary that the business he has planned could be considered suspicious. However, Mary clearly explains that she doesn t want to know, and that she is apathetic towards her husband s dealings. This is important because this apathetic attitude towards business reveals marital tension in that she is indifferent towards her husband s actions. Indifference in a marriage can lead to many problems in life. For example, if a wife didn t care where her husband was going at night, and later found he was committing adultery, this could lead to a big fight or a divorce. Furthermore, Mary s attitude of submissiveness towards her money shows further her indifference towards her husband and his dealings. She willingly grants a thousand dollars with no questions asked to him. A thousand dollars back then was a lot of money, and she clearly doesn t care what her husband will do with the money. Furthermore, we understand that this money was for Danny, so that he could use it to kill himself. This is a serious breach in moral conduct, but Mary doesn t care at all. She is revealing that, whether or not, Ethan commits a immoral act, she is more than willing to let him commit that act, and understanding from the previous paragraph she even encourages his immoral

Those who are able to make parole after meeting the requirements set in place by the court are faced with new difficulties when trying to reintegrate in society. While inmates complete sentences ordered by the court, they have the opportunity to take advantage of Federal Aid including continued education, job skill training, employment opportunities and support programs. These programs are designed to lessen the struggle offenders face as they reintegrate into society by offering a positive direction upon their release. The overall goal is to achieve a reduction in the rate of recidivism. While in prison, criminals are given the opportunity to continue education as many inmates do not have basic, grade school, education. Lack of education prevents most released offenders from gaining regular employment and earning high enough wage to prevent them from relapsing back into crime.
