Kinnell creates the speaker in a way to really portray what he believes true love to
be once long married . The author gives great sensory details, engulfing you into the
night that he produced from these fickle meters. The speaker in the poem puts
family high on this list of priorities as the author shows a significant amount of
importance to them from using a few clever poetic devices. Although Kinnell could

Originality of the poem is derived from the fact that this poem is from a man s
perspective, finding love to be so blessing. It is usually the woman who becomes
sentimental towards these types of things, for women are typically more
emotional of the two sexes. As I try not to stereotype men, in today s society being

A lightbulb clicked and I decided to use Lifetime gym as my culture and a
dumbbell as my artifact. The next step of this project was to compare my culture
and artifact with another culture. The biggest obstacle I faced was having to be
creative and think about how other people and cultures may view the dumbbell. It

Benito Cereno Analysis
In the novella, Benito Cereno, Herman Melville demonstrates the conflicting issue
of racism and how it has been a part of our society for centuries. In the novella, we
go on an adventure with two captains of Spanish descent and an overpowering
amount of African Americans slaves. Melville has captured the importance of the
slave trade and the risks that have been taken over time by African Americans
trying to earn some justice within their lives. As a reader, we are shown the heart
wrenching experiences a slave trader and an African American must endure over
the bloody trading seas. Melville creates a clear picture that Americans over
history were not always the heroes. This novella, shows the morality of our
American history and how race has created such a strong role within our culture.
There once was a time of darkness that still lingers in American culture today. This
darkness has been told by the ones who have lived these experiences. Melville
shows us that there is always another side to be told and that is the side of the ones
who have been captured. The side of the ones who don t have a voice unless it is
out of extreme measures and this is what Benito Cereno demonstrates. This
novella, shows how far one of another race had to overcome before finally being
heard and for them to be followed as a leader and not the other way around. When
reading Benito Cereno, it starts out with Captain Delano discovering a ship
floating in unbearable conditions close to docking on shore. Delano thinking the
ship is in need of some serious help. Delano boards this mystery ship and learns to
find out that it is a slave ship. However, he begins to notice something odd about
the ship. This isn t a normal slave trading ship. There is no order or direct order
from the Captain of the ship, Benito Cereno. When commanding a slave ship during
this time frame, slaves were in shackles and locked up. It was the common protocol,
to treat the slaves nothing less than an animal would be treated. However, Delano
begins to notice with his first glances upon board that slaves are on top deck, not
chained and armed with weapons. Hatchet polishers, wondering why such an
interruption should be allowed, especially on that part of the

At the end of the 16th century people burned cats for sport, hunted witches, and the
leach was the pinnacle of medical technology. However, they did get one thing right.
16th century englishmen had views on interracial marriage that were arguably more
sophisticated than those of the American South until as recently as 2009.
Shakespeare s Othelloillustrates this with how the Venetians treat the protagonist,
Othello. He is treated as not only equal but in many cases superior and senior. Racism
in Othello is remarkable, because of its absence, yet we find it challenging to hear
shakespeare s words without projecting our experience of racism onto them.
Shakespeare s Othello is remarkably tolerant of racial differences that would soon
come to shame the western world. Othello, the moor is held in high esteem. His
marriage to Desdemona is almost immediately accepted by Venetian society. Othello
is a play about a virtuous marriage that meets a tragic end brought about by jealousy
and deceit.
There is great opposition to the announcement of Othello s marriage to
Desdemona. At the heart of racist thinking is opposition to such interracial
marriages. An interracial marriage in 17 of the United States could result in a
prison sentence until Loving vs Virginia in 1967 which set love free of racism by
statute. The first suggestion that Desdemona has been compromised and stolen
from Brabantio by a clandestine marriage to Othello is met with similar thoughts of
crime and punishment. However, Shakespeare confuses the crime by explicitly
characterizing it as witchcraft. Brabantio says, That with some mixtures powerful o
er the blood, / Or with some dram conjured to this effect, / He wrought upon her
(1.3.123 24). Witchcraft to us is not a credible accusation, but at the end of the 16th
century, it most assuredly was life threatening. The audience must interpret if
Brabantio s fury stems from the loss of his daughter to an unacceptable marriage
with a black man or from the betrayal of his position by the fact that his loving
daughter kept the knowledge of the courtship from him. Shakespeare is clear that

geography views health from an all inclusive perspective combining society and

why space and place are central for health variation in the population. As a result,

remain open minded and appreciate different philosophical and epistemological

Throughout much of the historical writings of the Bible, ranging from the book of
Joshua to the book of Esther, the central narrations depict the formation of kingship

Solyndra is a company that was founded by Christian Gronet in 2005 which
specialized in the creation of solar panels to help minimize the overall energy cost of
the United States. It was founded on the perception that lightweight, high efficiency
thin film solar panels in a unique tubular design could compete with other
