Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. The first day in the morning we went with our partners to the
school and we presented the powerpoints we had made in
Spain, but it rained and the electricity didn’t work well. So, we
couldn’t finish our oral presentations.
We saw the clasrooms, the laboratories, the canteen, and the
gym of the school.
4. In the afternoon
we went to see a
yogurth factory
, and after
that, we went with
our partners to a
shopping centre
called “Terra City”
where we drank
the typical Turkish
coffee, and our
Turkish partners
read us our
future, using the
coffee left in the
cup.
5. Next morning, we went
to a natural park and we
saw waterfalls, there
were camels, and a lot
of souvenir shops.
Then we visited a very
luxurius resort area
with the most expensive
theme hotels.
6. After that, we went on a cruise with all the Comenius
people , we saw the coast of Antalya , and we had a
party with music on the boat. It was superb!!!
7. The third
and the
fourth day
we went to
see the
East and
West part
of Antalya
and we saw
a lot of
Roman and
Greek ruins
8. The last day, we could finish the
presentations and after that, we had a
party prepared by the Turkish students
9.
10. Our conclusions
• It has been our first experience in this kind of projects
and we can say that it has been unforgettable, because
we could meet our partners( we kept in touch by
Facebook, but we looked forward to meeting
them), live with their families, visit their school, meet
the other partners of the project, know a different
culture, customs, religion, traditions, taste the tasteful
food, kebabs, desserts, eat a lot of healthy
food, vegetables, salads. Now we are a bit sad when
we remember the wonderful days we spent there, but
our hope is to see them again in September.
