Memories about the 4th meeting in Italy – April 2018 – by Polish students
of Gimnazjum no 1 in Piekoszów: Kinga, Oliwia, Gabriela and Sylwia.
Saturday, 21st
April 2018
It was the first day of our trip. We had to got up so early - at 6 a.m. We met next to the school, say
goodbye to our families and set out to Katowice.
We were so lucky, because our bus was so comfortable. We had time to sleep a few hours more. At
the airport we were at 10 a.m. We went through the briefing and boarded the plane. At Naples we
were at 2 p.m. There our Italian friends waited for us and bring us to their houses.
I lived in Sara’s house this week. Firstly she showed me my room and toilet, then she introduced me
her family. I was so surprised, because everyone can speak English
My first meal in Italy was true Italian spaghetti. It was the best spaghetti I have ever eaten.
After dinner we met with Kinga, Pasquale, Sylwia, Lorenza, Gabriela and Stefano. We drunk Italian
coffee and they showed us their town – Acerra.
We were so happy we could see their town and got to know them
a little better.
Sunday, 22st
April 2018
Yesterday it was hard to fall asleep. We were in other country, in strangers houses. We were still a bit
stressed, but night was beautiful and warm.
I woke up at 10 a.m. For breakfast I got only cookies and coffee. I got to know that every breakfast in
Italy looks like that. I was so sad. I was talking with Sara and I told her I want to see how they live in
Italy. She said she could do it. She showed me what she do in her free time, she introduced me her
best friends and told about family and school life.
Later me and Sara went to beautiful park in Pomigliano. There we met my friends from Poland and
other students from Hungary and Italy. We had great time. We talked for a long time, we played
football and volleyball.
Then everyone came to Sara’s house where Italian guys made for us traditional pasta carbonara. We
were talking and singing and played with people from other countries. We also learnt some Italian
words. It was really nice day.
On this trip I met so many nice people, I got to know Italian culture, and I improved my English. Some
activities helped me in planning my future. I’m so glad I could participate in this project.
MONDAY,23.04.2018:
We started our day at school. We were welcomed by the headmaster of the facility. In addition to him,
we were welcomed by people who helped our Italian partners on the project. After the meeting, we
had time to visit the school, which is huge. We liked gym the most, where together with Italy, Hungary
and Greeks we played a match. Then we had a short workshop where we were looking for the right
products for our "5euro challenge". In addition, we created our own posters, which were proof of our
improving computer skills. Then we went to the pasta factory, where at the beginning we got dinner,
and then we got to know the secret of creating the perfect pasta. Although there were plans to visit the
historical part of Accery (the place where we lived), together with our hosts, we decided to let it go.
Instead, we organized a Polish-Italian meeting where we learned our languages.
TUESDAY, 24.04.2018:
Today we had to get up really early (5 AM). Despite this, we were full of energy. A trip to Rome was
planned today. Each of us dreamed about seeing it, so as soon as we arrived, we could not stop
admiring. Wherever we looked, there was art everywhere. We saw the famous Colosseum, triumphal
arches, the Di Trevi fountain or the Roman Forum. Everything brought us enormous admiration. We
also had a delicious lunch, and we tried famous Italian ice cream. Rome will remain in our hearts
forever. After returning to "our homes", we ate supper and went to a meeting organized on the
occasion of Oliwia's birthday. At midnight, we sang her "Happy Birthday” and we wished her the best.
Then we returned home, because the next day we were to visit Naples.
It was great experience for all of us. We are very thankful for a chance to visit Italy and meet again our
Italian friends. We fell in love in Italy and amazing culture. We are lucky, that we could know their real
life. We will remember this trip forever.
Wednesday 25.04.2018r.
That day we had to get up early. We left for Naples at
half past eight. After half an hour we were there. We
visited various churches - more modest and more ornate.
They were all breathtaking.
We also ate dinner at the Trattoria Medina restaurant.
We were served delicious Italian dishes. After a moment
of free time, we returned to Acerra.
Thursday 26.04.2018.
As usual, we woke up early. That day we went to Pompei, where we arrived after an hour. We visited
this amazing place for three hours. It was hot and we had to walk a lot, but it was definitely worth it.
We were in the arena, where people fought, we also saw the main square.
Then we went back to Acerra and had lunch at school. Then we visited Coelmo Generators. The man
working there told us his story about finding a job, he gave us a lot of advice and helped us
understand how the employment logic works. It was an interesting and very helpful experience.
Friday
After eating a delicious breakfast in our families, we all
met at school to listen to a lecture entitled "Skills of the
21st century, jobs of the future." We also met with the
headmaster of the school C. De Rosa and the mayor of
the city R. Lettieri.
Dr. F. Di Nardo, G. Biazzo and S. Brancaccio told us about
educating and finding work in the future. They talked
about the rapidly growing market and the need to keep
up with it. It is important that young people are open to
new things and improve their skills and explore the
world. You have to be ready for change and most
importantly do not wait until the work will come to us.
We must try for it.
I really enjoyed this lecture. I learned a lot from him and
I think that a lot will help me in the future.
After a short break, we watched great presentations
prepared by the students about the work.
Then we went to the Royal Palace in Caserta. It is an unusual and impressive
palace. We were all delighted with him. It is the largest of four royal
residences. The construction of the palace began in 1752 at the request of
the extravagant King Charles III of Bourbon, according to the design of his
court architect Luigi Vanvitelli. When Karol saw the large model of the
palace made by the architect, he was very moved. The main model for
Vanvitelli was the Palace of Versailles itself, which is why the architect
unconsciously repeated the same mistakes as the Versailles builder. A huge
building with over 1,200 rooms was created, with huge staircases and
lavishly furnished apartments - all in a small, poor town. Rich baroque
facades up to this day contrast strongly with the typical Italian neighborhood
burnt by the sun. At the back of the palace there is a vast park with an area
of 120 hectares with fountains, cascades and sculptures. It is divided into
two parts; English-style garden and Italian-style garden.
After sightseeing, we had a free time to prepare for
a farewell supper. After the speeches and great
performances of students from Italy, we played with
music, singing and dancing.
Saturday
Unfortunately, Saturday was a time of farewell to our families and
Italy. We were all very sad about it. We knew that we would miss
very much. We have learned a lot from this project. We have
improved our English language, we have become more open, we
have met new and wonderful people. Thanks to trips, not only to
Italy, but also to other countries, we could get to know a new place,
new cultures. In my opinion, it will help us in the future, and the
experiences and memories from that time will stay with us for a
long time.
