Look Pass the Label
A few weeks ago, I visited the Museum of Modern Art. As I was going through the
second exhibition a particular painting caught my attention. Still life with three
puppies by Paul Gauguin was titled. My first encounter with this painting was
through the title, which made me create negative hypothesis on what the painting
was depicting. When looking at this painting all I could think about was my lack of
fascination towards animals, especially puppies, while the person standing next to
me was sighing and smiling about according to her how cute the puppies are .
Unlike that person, I am not an admirer of puppies and as result I move quickly
from the painting. However, as I made a second round on the exhibition, this time
when I saw the painting I was beginning to notice things like shapes, symbols and
colors and immediately forgot about my initial reaction. I begin to realize that there
might be more to the painting than what I originally saw, but I have been blind from
my initial judgments.
In my second observation I was able to look pass this initial judgments drawn by the
title. The title Still Life with Three Puppies confirm my assumptions about the
painting and prevented me from continuing seeing what the painting is trying to
depict. This name limited my thinking and didn t allow me to see the painting from
what it is.

The graph I have created is a line graph. I included the four types of antibiotics we
tested.
Control, which is a blank template and has no medicine on it, but acted example of
no effectiveness, penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline. The zone of inhabitation
is a circular shape around the circle pad of antibiotic that represents the effectiveness
of an antibiotic at a given dosage. It is measured in millimeters and included the

jelly base) with the bacteria it was designated for. After that, we split both dishes
into four sections. In the middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc.
After all four of the antibiotics were placed in each dish with tweezers, they were
incubated overnight. The next day, we measured the zone of inhabitance around
each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S. epi is gram
positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it
because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative,
then streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts
with gram positive bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because
only one of the antibiotics was susceptible on s. epi, while the others were
resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both streptomycin and tetracycline
were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this experiment to the outside
world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and infections.
This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living
their lives. If I or a friend every needed to know the effectiveness of a antibiotic

summer before. She told me it was a fun job and an easy way to make some

My coworker broke up the ice and scoop it into a bowl. Then, they would hand the
bowl to me and I would dump it into the top of the machine. This job was very
tedious and one of my least favorite things to do. After that, I would pour the liquid
into the slushy machine so it could freeze. Next, I would fill the three washing
sinks. The left sink was for warm soapy water and the middle sink was empty for

I went to Dry Tortugas National Park this summer. It s the farthest Florida Key and is
at least a 70 mile boat or plane trip. This year is the park s 100th anniversary and I
was so excited, and scared, to go. It was established because once Ponce de LeГіn
caught around 160 turtles there. Also, what makes this park unique is that 99% of it
is under water and since the water is so shallow there are many shipwrecks. I love fish

I could see Fort Jefferson, the moat around it, the islands, and how shallow the

Because of the success of Target stores, the company was renamed Target Corporation
in August 2000. Target Corporation has three main divisions: Target Stores, Mervyn
s, and Marshall Field s. Target Stores, the second largest discount retailer, offers
products geared to attract a more affluent discount shopper. The Target customer is
much younger than other discount BIG BOX stores with an average age of just 40,
mostly female, have children and are college graduates. The distinction in customer
base is important due to the emphasis on quality at lower prices. Target separates
itself from its competitors by offering more up to date and stylish products, better

You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can
never repay you. John Bunyan. Last summer, I had the pleasure of doing just that.
Baton Rogue in Louisiana was city devastated by flooding but united by service.
Our church wished to help, and as luck would have it the St. Bernard Project
organization would sponsor a volunteer group down to Baton Rogue to help
rebuild houses. I wished to be a part of the group, and I was permitted after our
youth director agreed to include the 9th graders as well. I was very excited and

Little did I know that this trip would change my view of what it means to be an
American and my ideas on volunteering forever. Our bus was loaded in the parking
lot of the church, and after saying goodbye to our parents, I hopped on and settled
down for a long ride. Twenty five hours is a very long time to be on a bus granted
we stopped for meals along the way. When we finally pulled into the hotel in Baton
Rogue, I wanted nothing more than to just get to our room and head to sleep. The
real fun would begin the next day when we would finally get to work. I was not
really sure what to expect the next morning. I knew I was going to work, but I didn

The experience I had as a member of a group in which someone became a
scapegoat involves a situation in which I was a scapegoat. This situation occurred
last year, September of 2015, not long after starting to take classes at Teachers

I was the child who never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. I could
see myself doing everything because I knew that I could do anything. Fascinated by
their complexity and similarities, I slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is
